Sorry I didn't get to this sooner.

This is... sort of... the end of the chapter. You can feel free to back post dealings witht he guy int he warehouse, or just go on about your business. Obviously he is rather dismissive about your "lesser" group (as he would see it). Go ahead and punch him in the head if you wish. I admit i would be sorely tempted.

Uthgar will be taken care of, it just hasn't happened in the plot as of yet.

"I wouldn't worry about that Skit. He usually likes to send people out on missions like this to test their loyalty to the Hand. Lesser men... err... halflings I suppose, would have given up the mission and just freed the slaves, calling it honor or 'doing what is right' when really they were betraying the Blue Hand, and the trust put in them. If I know the boss, I would expect you'll be much more content with your next mission."

The group returns to the guild hall, with their new half-orc slave turned ally in tow. The atmosphere in the guild hall is filled with the comraderie most of you have grown used to. The soft light low burning lamps, and the smell of sweet meats engulf you as you enter.

"Congratulations friends." A voice all but the half-orc recognizes calls out from the dining room. "It seems you have passed Lord Azure's little test. C'mon and sit a spell. Jorin has cooked up quite a meal tonight." Those of you that are already a part of the guild recognize the man as one of the senior members. One of the Azure Blades, the more elite group of the Blue Hand. His name is Gorn if memory serves.

(Assuming the group goes in.)

"Wow Argent, don't you look like a whipped dog. Someone steal your beard?" A grin spreads across his face. "Have a drink and relax. Echo... I think you might want to get cleaned up first. The smell is a bit... off."

He continues with a few jibbing, but good natured comments before calling to the kitchen to feed the rest of you.

"So, how did it go?"

He looks at Downhouser incredulously.

"Wow... Did you come up with that on your own? The ice is several feet thick and I don't think anyone here has an ice pick hidden on them..." He looks around to the rest of the group. "If they do, I really don't want to know where its being kept."

"I think we're doing alright. Katie, you took a pretty hard hit, you still good to go?" A flash of true concern flashes across his eyes before being concealed once again by his usual expression of cocky confidence. "Virago has already reduced their team by 1 with some creative high sticking. That should make this next period a bit easier. I'll keep the captain and the incredibly she-hulk out of it as much as I can. All we have to do is hold them off, and score a single goal."

Danyael definitely sounds more sure of himself than he really is, but that's was always one of his more charming qualities.

"We've seen that they play dirty, and the ref didn't call anything on Virago. So guys, what do you say we step up the beating a bit eh?"

With a sly grin on his face he waits a moment for other input.

(He'll continue acting the part of a distraction, and dodging the captain as necessary.)

It is possible. You would have to make a concentration check to cast, and you risk falling.

For obscuring mist, it would amke the climb more difficult due to not being able to really see very well. However, after 1 round the mist would sink to lower on the mountain.

The fact that you are looking straight up at them at an unknown distance makes their size uncertain. You can guess that they are at least medium size.

Also a note: the climb has been slow and tough. Exhausting is probably a good word. But I didn't want to put too much emphasis on it since you guys seemed anxious for the next action sequence.

I doubt a normal crossbow bolt fired from a normal crossbow bolt would penetrate the stone of the cliff face enough to support a bag, let alone a person (not to mention the bolt would likely snap).

It may work, but the rolls will be with significant penalties. Just a warning.

The following morning the party prepares for the climb. The face before them went almost straight up... a challenge to be sure.

With hesitation and caution they began. Stone by stone the group climbs. Foot by foot, with each step seeming to threaten a deadly fall.

Hours passed, and it seemed like very little progress had been made. Even the muscles of the strong half-orc were tired and aching. About fifty feet above there was a small plateau. Hopefully it was big enough for the party to get some much needed rest, perhaps even rest for the night, despite the earliness of the hour.

Hope, and visions of food and rest flashed across their minds as they climbed further. But their minds were not the only thing working at that moment.

A screech from higher up the mountain echoes off of the stones, then another. Sever pairs of wings soar out into the open sky, blotting out a portion of the starlight. After watching them for a moment you see them begin to circle, approaching you as you cling to the rocks... with talons bared.

They are hunting.

At first the crowd seemed hesitant, even resitant to moving. But when arrows and other sharp thrown objects began to rain down on them from the sky, they were suddenly and collectively struck by extreme motivation.

The urgings of the group were needed not to get them moving, but to keep them from trampling each other in their fright. Arrows continued to rain down, felling several of the slaves in the rear of the group. Apparently their previous master was of the opinion that if he couldn't have them, no one could.

Fifty feet to go.

A number of men step out of the warehouse clad in strange garb. Six of them kneel and ready their bows. The glint of the steel arrow tips glint in the moonlight as you move ever forward, hoping that they are allies, not enemies. For if enemies they be, none of you will have any chance to escape the crash between the hammer and the anvil.

Thirty feet.

The men before you release a volley of arrows. The wooden shafts streak through the air, screaming like banshees as they fly. The screams of the dying fill the air as two men, then a third fall from the rooftops to the ground below.

At a full sprint the slaves (assumably accompanied by the party) dash into the warehouse, the doors closing behind you. Six slaves have fallen (including the one carried by Thiferl) in your flight.

A man clad in well-tended studded leather appears on a balcony over looking the open area in which you now stand. He speaks in a rough, yet commanding voice.

"It's about time you delivered them. I was beginning to wonder about your competence." He takes a quick count of the remaining slaves. You see a dark look cloud his face as hte finishes. "You are six short! Their cost will be deducted from your wage, I promise you!"

He turns to the other guards in the room. "Send these mercenaries on their way and tend to the master's property."

Over a dozen guards, registering in your senses for the first time due to the chaos of your escape and the darkness of the room, step forward. Three of them usher you quickly out of the front warehouse door.

The guards employed by the merchant you just stole from are no longer visible. Apparently word had already reached them that the slaves had made it past them.

(OOC: The pay generally goes to the guild, which distributed it to you, thus you will be paid upon your return.)

Turn it into a story type post (look at Trilogy wars to see what I'm talking about). You don't necessarily have to limit the post to just what your character is doing. You can mention his thoughts, or the small actions he does that may not have any mechanical application, but are there for the purposes of a good story.

Like a half-orc going to the back of the crowd and roaring or somethng to try to get them to move faster. Whether it is an actual Intimidate attempt or not, logic would say that many of them might move faster if they were frightened of a creature they can actually see.

So, like I said, don't necessarily limit yourself to an "I do this" post.

Seeing the large, if less than inelligent, man swinging towards the trap door he thought about what they had seen so far.

"No! Don't! It'll likely be...." As Grimm swung down at the trap door the Raslan dashed behind whatever cover he could find.

(If the door explodes or whatever he will simply shake his head.)

Meanwhile, he looks out over the campsite, looking for the best place to pitch his little vial, and hoping that it did what he thought it did.

(OOC: Feel free to continue this conversation, but I figure the I've already made you guys wait long enough for an update. So here it is.)

The first day of travel went smoothly, which seemed to be a pleasent change for much of the group. The Demonspine Mountains seem to get closer with each passing step. By the time the group made camp, their best estimates placed them in the foot hills by nightfall of the following day, if the weather holds out.

Unfortunately, the weather didn't hold. Early the next morning a storm begins to role in. Clouds cover the light of the moons, leaving the land illuminated only by the soft glow of several volcanoes in the distance to the north.

(For those without darkvision, some light source will be necessary for you to move safely. Reminder: Low-light vision has double the normal range in this world.)

Undetered the group trudged through the rain and darkness towards the remote mountain temple. At the end of the third day, the rain still pouring down, they reach the base of the mountains. Tomorrow, they would have to climb.

The cliff face before you is honeycombed by caves and alcoves. An overhang of stone provides a bit of shelter from the weather, though with everything soaked, you may have a bit of difficulty starting a fire.

(OOC: So, you have made the trip to the mountains without apparent incident. The next posts should deal with the current night, how you intend to approach the the climb, as well as any changes in prepared spells (for those who do that sort of thing)).

Subject: Update

The half orc's seething antics had done little to help the group, and had in fact caused injury to at least one other party member. Realizing this he took a step back from the fray in order to regain at least a portion of his lost self-control.

Taking advantage of the opening the White Blade did something most of the party did not expect. He disengaged from the group entirely and vanished into thin air.

(A successful Perception skill check by Argent places him on the roof tops, opposite where he just was.)

His voice echoes allong the alley way.

"Well done. It seems I have indeed found a bit of a challenge. But for now, I have stalled you long enough. It seems reinforcements have arrived."

His voice takes on a slightly mocking tone as he continues.

"I would hurry those creatures along if you intend to get them to the warehouse before the Others finish what I started."

(Argent sees him still crouched on the roof top, but despite his cocky words, he is at least taking a bit of cover from missile weapons. No one else yet notices his position, but are searching the roof tops and every dark corner in an effort to prevent him from getting the drop on the group again.)

Thiferl and Echo aren't paying any attention to the White Blade's words. The focus is instead on moving the slaves, and the new threat that is quickly gaining on them. While they are having some success, the appearance and sudden disappearance of the White Blade has the whole lot of them unnerved, so moving them is more difficult than normal. It seems obvious that they are so concerned with looking for the disappeared White Blade that they haven't noticed the Others approaching fromt he roof tops.

(At the end of this round, the slaves are about 100' from the warehouse. There is no obvious road block between them and the warehouse.)

Some things have come up in RL so the game update will be delayed.

For now, assume the first day's travel through the forest goes by without incident. You set camp for the night after 8 hours of travel.

Feel free to discuss things among yourselves and talk a bit more about what you may face (or whatever) until I have a chance to get an official update up.

Subject: A note

My character has never played hockey before, but he has taken dates there (though the games weren't watched all that much...) and he has skated before. After all, women love a romantic skate to get them in the mood. And skating in the cold tends to raise the need to... warm up a bit.

So he's not completely helpless on the ice, but definitely not a hockey player.

Subject: Another suggestion

I would also like to suggest the possibility of mentioning the reading comprehension skills that the game can teach, both by reading the rulebooks, and on the part of GMs, reading and interpreting rules and adventures.

It can also help simple math skills, problem solving and other things, but it seems you want to stay focused on the English angles so it may not pay to mention those despite their "scholarly" applications.

General plans:

1) If I get a chance to swing by and make the captain's wife swoon.. I do so. (And other provoking tactics towards the captain) If I have a chance to take one for the team and flirt with the abominable ice chic, I'll try to subtly convince her that if the captian smears me, I won't be ablt to entertain her later.

2) I plan to stay alive. For me, scoring the goals is secondary, but if I have the opportunity I take the shot (I don't intend to act the part of a coward).

3) Overall, I plan to be more of a distraction than a player. I don't want to mess up the looks after all.

Awesome points... keep me alive, mobile and lacking permanent scarring.

Physical Description:
Height: 5’3
Weight: 110 lbs
Hair: Long dark hair always tied back in a braid.
Eyes: Dark blue eyes dominate her pale, oval face.
Other: A smattering of freckles plays across her slightly overlarge nose and high cheeks. Her usual attire is a black leather outfit that is well suited for nighttime and is not encumber some. Pockets are worked into the legs that allow her to have the tools of her trade close at hand.

Personality: Raina finds it at the height of amusement that she can break into houses and steal items with ease. As part of the ‘balance’, as she calls it, she has a habit of donating money to local soup kitchens and other charities. Although her chosen profession has required extreme caution, her general demeanor is quite a bit more arrogant while not at work. She often utters the phrase, “Stand back and let the professional do it.”

Background: Born into a society that she didn’t quite fit into, the Trovatelli family is a family of merchants. At a young age, Riana became accustom to sneaking out of her house to escape the constant yelling and fighting. It was then that she discovered her talents at creeping into and out of other people’s homes without being noticed. Her father, Bryan Trovatelli, often made business dealings of a corrupt nature. Raina took to stealing from other dishonest people her father dealt with and delivering items or money back to their rightful owners. After a fashion, Raina began being paid for her skills, which allowed her to move into her own place. From time to time she still does what she considers “charity work”.

You currently have 5 characters (including yourself) with the group.

All but cdnflirt's character are posted up on the Character thread (I think...) I will get her's up as soon as I am able.

Brianna has been temporarily removed from the game until I manage to get in touch with her and determine her interest. If she leaves permanently, we will just say she opted out of the deal and left the manor separately.

The anger of the half-orc is plain as he rushes in once again. The lightning quick attacks and parrys exchanged by the Blade and the dwarf are a blur before them. Just a moment before the orc-kin pushes past his monk fighting companion the Blade looks up and smiles.

Uthgar slashes down with his longsword, landing a grazing strike on the man's already stuck arm. But the shove he gave the dwarf has thrown off his rhythm, and opened his defenses. The White Blade's sword dives in biting deeply into the dwarf's side (6 hp damage).

Calm and serene despite his wounds Argent shifts, planting his feet firmly and strikes hard and fast, landing two solid blows, one on the man's leg and another square in his chest. The Blade loses the wind from his lungs, but recovers quickly. Yet that distraction enabled a small figure to move into position.

The sounds of battle are pierced by the sizzling of magic as two bolts of pure energy slam into the Blade, once again staggering him for an instant. But an instant was all Skit needed. He plunged one of his daggers deep into the man's ribs. The Blade screamed in pain and twisted himself, nawrrowly avoiding the second dagger aimed at his spine.

With his fine clothing quickly turning from white to red as the blood of himself and others began to saturate it, the White Blade once again disengaged from the fight.

Meanwhile, one the rooftops, Thiferl sees the movement of more... at least four (though he can't be sure), approaching from opposite the warehouse.

(OOC: The White Blade isn't looking very good. His general speed has slowed somewhat and he is bleeding from a number of wounds. Despite this he is currently still standing strong, moved so that his back is against a building.

Vorlace looks to Raina. "My Lady you won't need to get in touch with me. I have already told you that I will be watching over youa s best I am able. When the task is complete I will find you. Do not try to return to this house without my permission. If you do so its defenses may take you for enemies before I can intervene. And I apologize, but I have already leant out the books that I am able to spare from my library. I have much more research to do and many clues to puzzle through while you are away. I will need what resources I have kept ready and at my disposal."

The well-dressed man walks you out of his house and to the edge of his lands.

"Once you leave through that gate it will disappear. You will find it much as you did before I made it open to you. Head north to the mountains."

He proceeds to give you explicit directions, as well as a few landmarks to travel by. From the way he describes it, you should be traveling for only a few days, climbing for perhaps another one or two before reaching this temple.

He waves his goodbye and then returns to his home.

As the party heads out the front gate of Master Vorlace's estate it does indeed swing shut. But the whole area shimmers for a moment, like ripples in a pond before vanishing entirely, leaving nothing but forest in its wake.

Oddly, this is not the same part of the forest in which you first found Master Vorlace's mansion. To the north, through a bare spot in the trees you can see the soft glow of the volcanic Demonspine Mountains. It seems he has taken you part of the way already, the rest is up to you.

(OOC: I'll give you guys a few days to digest that and converse if you wish. I'll try to do another update later this week with further events.)

This is going a bit... differently than I had planned...

The Canadian had apparently underestimated the team.

”Yoo've got some balls on you, eh?”, the man said, wiping a tear of laughter from his eye, ”Yoo hosers show up to do Fantasti's dirty work and act like his name still means something in these parts of town. What's he all aboot anyway? Yoo meet the cowardly bastard?"

"Well, I suppose he has to find Real men and beautiful women to do the work for him. Besides, the pay is good enough, and you of all people should know what people will do when given the right motivation."

__________________________________________________________________

Down on the ice Danyael finally realized he didn't have any control over the situation.

"Hmm... this is a bit different. Usually I'm dropping out of a window and being shot at when I lose control of the situation." Fond memories of the captian's wife creep into his mind, bringing a smile to his eyes.

He looks out over the ice as the blood of the last game soaks in, it is then that he finally recongnizes the team captain. A plan began to form in his head, as he gave the captain's wife a wink that was full of promise.

"Alright everyone. It's obvious that their team captain is out for my blood. Though I can't for the life of me figure out why." A sly grin appears on his face. "I volunteer for the forward position opposite of him (right wing I suppose it is). As long as I can stay away from him and alive, I might be able to keep his attention off of the game. I've never played hockey before, but I imagine them having one less effective player will make it easier for us to score right?"

(once all arrangements are made per the Q&A he moves out into his appropriate position, hockey stick in hand and a cocky smile on his face as he winks at the captain himself.)
