Subject: The room

It isn't exactly a room. Basically think of a tunnel running through a 15' square room. The tunnel is on the right (as you see it) and goes directly across. The room was not lit, thus the momentary blindness of the guards.

The only other things in the room are a small wooden table and two wooden chairs (near the table).

Does that clear things up? I apoligize if I was unclear before. I am a bit new at this play by post thing.

Any other questions?

Subject: And the battle begins

With amazing dexterity and reflexes Kyara spins and goes to her knees sending an arrow streaking towards the first of the guards. A thud and a gratifying grunt signals a hit as the arrow drives deep into his shoulder (Dealing 6 hp damage).

Coming in immediately on the tail of the arrow, a blinding light and a rather heavy blunt object strikes the guard squarely, before he could even manage to pull his blade from the scabbard (critcally striking for 16 points of damage). The guard's face collapses beneath the weight of the blow and he crumbles to the ground in a heap.

The remaining guard blinks several times, clearing the white dots from his vision caused by the sudden light. After a moment a grin spreads on his face. Slowly he pulls his longsword from its sheath and takes a step backward, further down the passageway the door was previously blocking off. With his off hand he waves you forward. "Come to your death human." While his eyes take note of the skilled archer, he seems to be focused mostly on the light-wielding Heironymus standing before him, as he steps to place the cleric firmly between himself and the deadly archer.

(The second guard is 15' from Heironymus, 25' from Kyara. The cleric is currently blocking most of the door, giving the second guard cover from any additonal arrows (which gives him an AC bonus, and a chance of the arrow hitting Heironymus should you miss)).

The door is already open. The guard standing in the doorway is blocking any reasonable attack on the guard behind (an arrow could hit the rear guard but he would be considered to have cover).

Another note, as far as your light spell, you have likely used a number of charges as time has passed in the tunnels. For the sake of the plot and the game I haven't been making you re-cast. When we are done with this part I will determine how many charges you have used if that is acceptable.

Ah, it's not in a book I know. That would be why I don't know of the feat. I stand corrected. And you do make an excellent point about the metgaming thing.

I said I could be wrong, and so you have proven me so. I thank you for the information... now I have another book to go find...

And you're right. I do tend to be a bit... argumentative. I apologize for that and will try to be better about that in the future.

I could be wrong. I know of several versions of the Improved Familiar feat (including undead familiars, construct familiars, etc) but even those are still small animals, just magical beasts or outsiders instead of small animals. Like I said, I could be wrong but I don't think so.

The only thing I can thing of that is close is having a panther as a familiar in Neverwinter Nights 2. However an animal like that has never been available in any of the rule sets I've seen as far as I recall.

Subject: Shielf Wolf

I'm sure you know very well that sorcerers cannot have wolf familiars, and by the attitude Zeph has presented thus far (the isolationist hate of everyone) I believe it would be a fair assumption that he hasn't been at the school very long (and thus is not an advanced ranger). Having a powerful animal (such as a wolf) by your side virtually screams druid, for anyone who might take even a second to consider it. Even in character for these players, the way you describe your relationship with your wolf, it would be difficult to assume anything different.

Also bear in mind that the purpose of the game is for new people to learn, so there may be some who have difficulty seperating what they know from what their characters know, and knowing you are a druid (since the character sheets are posted) it biases them (and therefore their characters) to make that assumption. Whether they know what a druid is capable of or not is another issue entirely.

There! I got to say something! HAH! I feel better now. And thanks for pushing a bit to get the game moving forward. Although we are having a lot of conversation and at least 3 reliable posters, the game has sort of stagnated.

Soo... the group officially has no healer whatsoever. That is definitely possible to survive, I would just advise everyone in the group to keep that in mind when determining actions in the future.

Just a tip. Take it or leave it.

As you turn to head back the way you came the door behind you opens and the loud laughter of the two men spills into the passageway. After a second the one at the door looks out into the hallway momentarily blinded by the light of the wand. The other is slowly standing and reaching for the sword at his belt.

(declare your actions and then I will roll initiative as necessary).

I am excited to see how you guys do, but the RP stuff is important too. And a lot of this tension between the members of the group will have to be at least partially resolved of your new instructor will... let's just say he won't be very happy. But the interaction is great. Though I must admit I'm having trouble not saying anything at times.

*smack!* That was for taking so long.

*hand shake* That was for finding your way to the inn. You are, of course, welcome. Sit down, put up your feet. Though do try to keep the mud from your travles off of the table.

And oh *whispers* beware the facelick.

Beyond that, enjoy your time here. There are a number of games going on. Feel free to stop in the recruiting area. You should also feel free to look into the Red Wyrm School. It is an open recruiting game based in the 3.5E D&D rules. Its purpose is to assist people in learning the rule set and getting used to play by post games. If you are interested send a PM to Merideth or me and we'll help you get set up.

Enjoy!

Topic: Silver Crescent Publishing
Subject: Almost there

I have one more chapter to finish before I send the Realms of Twilight campaign setting to the printer. Hopefully I will have that done by the end of the week.

For those unfamiliar with it, it is a new campaign setting (more details at www.realmsoftwilight.net) compatible with the D&D 3.5E and Pathfinder RPG rule sets. Though I admit it is written with Pathfinder in mind. A map of the world is viewable on the Realms of Twilight fan page on Facebook. The book will be approximately 230 pages (8.5"x11") and be a hardcover. The cover is full color, the interior will be black and white (printing in color is EXPENSIVE) for a total cost of $40 for anyone who wants one. If anyone is interested or wants more information please either post here or contact me via PM or email. As of now I only plan to print 50 copies to start (all of which will be numbered and autogrpaphed) unless I get a huge amount of pre-orders. I don't have the finances to print too many more than that the first run.

If anyone has questions (either about the book or the publishing process) don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,
Steelight

Subject: HEY!

Yea... I'm still here... I think... though sometimes I debate it. Am I truly here, or is this just a figment of my imagination or a dream? hmm....

Also a few things I would like to mention prior to the next scenerio.

1) There will be things happening behind the scenes. I will be sending PMs to individual people if your character notices something or if your new instructor has a tip or piece of advice for your character alone in the middle of the scenerio. These messages will likely have both an in character and an out of character part to them. And don't feel left out if you don't get one. The instructor can only council so many characters at once.

2) Combat and tactics... during the course of these lessons you will be forced to come up against creatures that you can ONLY defeat if you utilize the skills of the party and any tactical advantage you can, and not act as a number of individuals (as we have thus far). This will likely NOT be the case in the first few scenerios, but I'm hoping this will be going on for quite a while, so I'm just offering a heads up.

3) The point of this whole excercise is to help people get used to the rules of D&D 3.5E (particularly combat rules in my case) and the whole play by post thing. However, if people are not having fun, then the game might as well not happen. So, if the actions of one or a group of characters begin negatively impacting the fun that they other players are having, the situation will be remedied. In some cases, I don't care if it is in character or not (as Meri said, some falls on the characters, more falls on the players). Just a fair warning. (Yes this includes me, though I will likely be reprimanded by Meri if this is the case.)

4) As Meri suggested, you should feel free to discuss and coordinate in the Q&A thread prior to posting in the game thread. It may seem like a bother, but it can help immensely at times.

With all of that being said, I look forward to seeing what happens next. We shall soon see if you will as well...

The goblin didn't attack Steelight. He provoked the monk (completely in character, as was the response) and Steelight attacked the goblin. The results of the scenario (as far as we know it thus far) is that Steelight is to be expelled and I know Zeph was at least scolded harshly in Merideth's office.

I talked to Meri today. She's been really busy and hopes to get an update in this weekend.

And I (as a player) am not out of the game. I am using a different character and taking up the role of combat and tactics instructor, while Tann takes a leave of absence (for an unknown and perhaps indefinite period of time).

About the new instructor, he will provide a little bit about him self when he is introduced, but there are many details that you will have to figure out for yourselves. He has a very in depth and intricate history, but it will obviously not be readily apparent. Feel free to ask him questions, but do NOT interrupt his teaching or his class. Save the questions until after class alright?

The door moves only a slight bit (not enough to actually see into the room). You could easily assume that the door has some sort of bar on the other side. Because you pushed so lightly you didn't hit the bar loud enough to alert anyone. The voices from behind the door even actually get louder as they burst into laughter at some joke or another.

You even manage to hear a slight bit of the conversation before they quiet the tones to a more normal level again.

"It'll be interesting... stupid prisoners... when he let's them loose... hell will follow..."

(You can attempt to break in the door, play on some deception, or something else if you wish to go past the door. If not, you have a plethora of passages to choose from... and each will actually lead you somewhere, so you won't be wandering the tunnels forever. )

None at all. Just bear in mind... I'm coming in as a combat instructor... heh heh heh...

Though I hope you don't interpret anything that happens as me trying to get back at your character. That is absolutely not the case. No hard feelings at all. I just want to make that absolutely clear.

I look forward to the game continuing (hint... hint ... Meri? ).

(Listen Check: 9)
The door is too well fitted to the opening on this side. You cannot hear any more details than Heironymus did previously.

You are no rogue, but you don't see any obvious trip wires, pressure plates or other such triggers you've heard about on the door or the surrounding area. Judging by the lack of hinges, it would seem that the door opens into the room beyond.

(Search check: 18 (I assumed Kyara was aiding in this))
You find no secret doors or hidden catches
that might open the door.

(Listen check: 15)
As Heironymus' searches around the door he hears a bit of something on the other side. It is a pair of male voices talking. It is difficult to hear what they are saying through the thick door, but you identify at least two distinct voices.

(The scream echoed through the complex, so no you couldn't pinpoint a direction.)

The tunnel twists several times as it delves deeper beneath the surface of the world. Several side tunnels branch off at random intervals, but the tracks invariable tell that this main passage is leading to something. Several times during your journey you hear the whisper of footsteps across the course rock and dirt, but searching for their source has been all but impossible, leading to no success.

(At this point you have passed 3 tunnels on your left and 2 on your right. The furthest back is about 400' (left), the closest is 30' back (right). If you chose to go back through one of these tunnels you can, just let me know which one you choose.)

At the edge of your light a door comes into view. It is a solid oak door with forged bands of iron crossing it. There seems to be a small opening in the door at about eye level, though something is blocking it at the moment. You see no door handle, lock or other operating mechanism on the door at all. The passage also splits off, leading both right and left (90 degree turns). At this point the tracks have become inconclusive. Each tunnel is heavily traveled, causing a flurry of dirt and marks to be scattered across the entirety of the intersection. As you briefly inspect the area the whispers return. You see motion at the edge of the light, but when you turn to focus, it disappears as if it had never been there.

She will be blind as well. Elves have low-light vision (and in my world that exists in eternal twilight it is double normal... and humans effectively have normal low-light vision as well) you are far enough in now that there is no light save the wand, so low-light vision won't do you much good without it.

More tracking info:

By examining the two paths you confirm that the one straight ahead has indeed seen a great deal more travel. Because of the hard terrain you can only distinguish recent tracks (and even those are difficult). Based on the dirt patterns (Survival roll of 22) it is likely that the most recent tracks head straight forward, but you aren't certain on that.

I completely forgot that they had the subraces in the Monster's Manual. Besides that the DM ruled it good so it really doesn't matter anymore.
