Subject: Siliwen?

Who is Siliwen? Also, Virif won't be joining you in the tunnel. Since he is now an NPC that would give too much DM interference I think.

Nomad, are you going to relinquish your wand from the grabbing ranger?

Also as far as tracks:

There floor is unfinished stone so it is difficult to find tracks. Some dirt is scattered across the floor giving you the slightest hint. From what you can tell the tunnel you came in through is the most heavily traveled, followed by the one straight across from you. The passage to your right still has signs of passage, but fewer and older than those in the one before you.

As far as this information, it is based off of what you can determine at the intersection. I will wait until Nomad decides what to do with his wand before providing more.

Kyara - If he resists are you going to make a grab for the wand or simply try to ask him to move the light to allow you a better view of each tunnel and it floor?

To my knowledge we were limited to the races in the Player's Handbook (with Zeph being a notable exception). Wood elves do not exist in that book... or any 3.5 Wizard's of the coast book I have (which is pretty much all of them except some of the Forgotten Realms books. I know there was a wood elves in the Complete Book of Elves in 2nd ed, but I don't know of one in 3rd ed. Where did you get it?

Subject: The game continues

Since currently it is just the two of you, I will provide updates as often as I am able. Other players are working behind the scenes right now, but you will not be alone when you reach the end of this part of the game.

And if you have any questions about checks or tracking (Kyara?) let me know and I'll respons ASAP.

Thanks,
Steelight

Subject: Finally an update

Heironymus leads the way down into the darkness, guided by the soft blue light of his wand's glowing tip. After a few moments of stunned silence at the sudden decision, Kyara heads into the tunnels after him, moving silent as a whisper.

The tunnel curves several times, sloping ever so slightly downward as your journey continues.

"Welcome..." a voice whispers in the dark, just beyond the light of the wand. "Welcome..." comes another whisper from the direction have have come. The whispers continue and more are added until the din becomes nothing more than the sound of heavy breathing in the darkness.

Then, as suddenly as it began, there is silence... absolute silence.

Up ahead you can see that the passage splits off. To the right it turns sharply decending steeper than your current path. This tunnel also continues before you, curving around a corner 10 feet further on.

The silence is shattered by another piercing shriek. The sound echoes through the tunnels at a volume that almost brings your hands reflexively to your ears before echoing back into silence. Whatever that sound was, it did not seem friendly. In fact, there can be no certainty that it even came from mortal vocal chords... but there is enough doubt to make it possible.

You may not know us, met us or have any idea who we are, but we understand. We will stand behind you and offer as much support as we are able from around the country and across the world. I'm sure I speak for all 1798 of us when I wish you luck at your interview, and offer my condolences to your family, and your wife in particular. I can't even imagine what she might be going through (and the family with her) but I will send as much positive energy as I can your way, in hopes that it might brighten the currently sullen days before you.

I'm particularly glad that we were able to bring this to a conclusion without anyone taking direct offense to it. That alone is a huge thing.

I admit I still don't understand that name calling and the (more or less) extreme response of the goblin entirely, but as our graceful DM said, at least we inspired some involvement and posting.

I noticed we all forgot to include the location, name and day on our posts in our excitement though. Oh well. Nobody's perfect.

Virif has been officially NPC'd. So don't be expecting any further posts or help from him. If either one of you give me a final decision on a course of action, I will provide a game update accordingly.

Steelight stands motionless, paralyzed in a fighting stance by the strength of the spell. He hears the professor's words, but his eyes remain locked on the goblin.

Only after several moments pass does his gaze move sharply to Professor O'leary. Where before there was nothing but respect and admiration, now the fires of rage and simmering hatred fill his eyes.

Slowly the rage fades from his eyes, replaced by the usual disciplined and emotionless gaze he normally possesses as he stares into Professor O'Leary's eyes.

Subject: Wow...

The weapons are simple practicality. If I cannot harm something that can potentially attack me, I'm going to adequately equip myself prior to any such dealings. If you'll also notice, I made no move to reach for my weapons. Their weapons are their claws. So I am innately offering them the advantage in combat.

I did what I did. As far as the ex-slave understanding... I also understand that these imps are treated MUCH better than a slave (at least the slaves I would know), and the school has taught me that there is a correct way to go about something, and an incorrect way. The first steps are negotiation. Failing that, more significant action is required. Since they jumped directly to a revolt (a word which brings to mind a willingness to commit violence) then I am willing to do whatever is necessary to protect the school. When provoked by the goblin, the imps no longer matter, nor does anyone else for that matter. As I said, I will kill the goblin and anyone who stands in my way, or I will die in the attempt. Either way the promise that he made to himself when he escaped slavery will be fulfilled. And, likely, either way I am out of the game, either by way of death or expulsion.

I wouldn't care. That was the "regardless of consequences" part. You insulted him and talked down to him. That is all that matters. He will either destroy anything that gets in his way, or die in the process. Either way he lives up to his promise to himself.

EDIT: Also bear in mind that I did, in fact, give them the option to bring their grievances up in an appropriate manner with an appointed representative as would be expected in any sort of true negotiation. I would expect tha the school would refuse to negotiate with an angry mob. I know every business, government or person I know would likewise refuse to negotiate with a mob. Just wanted to make that point.

Anyway, I guess we'll see what happens.

Steelight looks to the goblin at that unexpected remark. Then with predatory grace and deliberate steps he crosses the room. (Intimidating any imps to get out of his way) The last 20 feet he covers in a flash, lashing out at the diminuative (and loud mouthed) goblin with a fast palm strike to the chest. Using the rebound of the strike the trained monk springs backwards, putting a short distance between them waiting for the attacking wolf to come to its "master's" aid.

When he speaks, the words seeth with anger. His voice is low and his stance ready.

"You do not listen spawn of bile, treachery and uselessness. They were given an option. You will not be granted the same choice. No one speaks down to me and lives."

Only darkness and simmering rage appear on his face. In the end, one will remain. For never again will Steelight submit to anyone's commands or ridicule.

(The attack will be a stunning fist strike, and yes we did discuss this possibililty in the Q&A)

If your intention is to get one or the other of us killed, by all means continue. I will warn you however, that given my character's history he won't even suffer the faculty to speak down to him as you just did. It will come to blows and he will attempt (at least) to kill you without remorse, or regret regardless of consequences.

I just wanted to say that because it isn't personal at all. I understand Zeph's actions (sort of... though I did offer the imps the option to discuss their grevances in a civilized manner) as a player. But my character will react violently to your words. I hope you won't think less of me as a player when/if that happens.

Subject: Rising quickly, a threat or a promise

The die was an unexpectd surprise. I did open the right door didn't I? After a quick glance into the room, seeing the weapons and armor therein he was certain. He coiled his entire body up like a spring, his weight on his hands. In a single, fluid motion he kipped up back to his feet and moved into the room beyond the door. After a quick search he found the nunchaku he was looking for, grabbed them and tucked them in his belt. Now effectively armed agains tthe denizens of the outer plans he stepped back out of the room.

"ENOUGH!" his voice carried over the din of surprised imps and confused students alike. "Imps of the Redwyrm School, I would like to remind you that you are on the mortal plane purely because the heads of this school have called you. You are free at any time to return to the hells that spawned you if you do not like your lot in life here. I'm sure there are plenty of others who would be more than willing to take your place. Most of you are relatively intelligent, so I would assume this is something you already know. So are we to take this revolt as an attempt to abuse the privilidges that have been given to you? If so I assure you, your revolt will be met with the same resistance it always has, and many of you will be banished back to the hells, forbidden to even enter this plane again for a century."

As he speaks he slowly, confidently approaches the gathered imps. His voice growing a bit softer after the last statement.

"You have two choices here my friends. You can go back to the tasks you have been summoned for, and send a single representative to discuss your complaints which will be appropriately addressed, or you can keep on with this disruptive behavior. Should you choose the later, I assure you, neither the faculty or the students will tolerate such disruption for long. Make your choice, and be prepared to reap the whirlwind of your decision. For we are more than willing and able to follow either path."

The dark promise in his eyes showing the truth of the thinly veiled threat. And though he makes no move to reach for his silvered weapons, it is clear which path he would prefer they choose.

“Yeah sure. I’ll just pull some fire out of my…” The rest of the sentence is lost in a growl of pain as sharp claws rake across his back. This isn’t good. If they were men… but they are something else entirely. Another snarl erupts from Rajikesh’s throat as a second claw rakes down his arm. I’ve got to get out from the middle.
Rajikesh moves into a defensive stance, weaving and bending his body as the three creatures press their advantage. One claw slices high allowing Rajikesh to duck beneath it and spring into a diving roll between two of the creatures (5 foot step). At least now I have them on one side of me. Much good that will do. Coming out of the roll the monk plants his feet firmly beneath him and spins to face the three opponents. Gazing at each in turn he whispers a word under his breath before glancing around the plaza for a source of flame.

(Action review: 5’ step diagonally between two of the creatures, and activates his healing belt using 1 charge. I am fighting defensively at this point.)

Steelight Shadowborne
Armory
Week 1 - Tuesday

Steelight walks brazenly to the picket line of imps, a stern and angry expression on his face. Hopefully these guys remember my reputation and will think better of getting in my way. Without saying a word or even lookig at the imps themselves he attempts to step through the line, heading in the direction or the right-hand door, eyes focused on his goal (though attempting to be keenly aware of the reactions and movements of the imps).

(should any imp attempt to bar his way he offers them a stern and silent glare that promises a painful trip back across the planes. Intimidate +3. If that doesn't work I will attempt to Tumble (+8 ) through them to get to the door and slam it shut behind me if I make it.)

Only a moment after the three of you gather at the entrance of the cave you hear an echo from within the depths. A second later it repeats itself, this time you can make it out.

A woman's shriek pierces the air for the third time, echoing for several moments before fading back into the oblivion of silence that seems to shroud the cave.

Steelight Shadowborne
Redwyrm Auditorium
Week 1 - Tuesday morning

"Well isn't he a bit upity this morning." Steelight slowly stands, no sign of urgency anywhere in his expression or his movements. "And what was that about being prepared when entering an encounter?" He smiles slightly to himself. "Professor, as our overzealous acquaintance has said, we'll find a way to handle it. it's not like this is the first time they've revolted." In fact they are pretty much revolting all of the time.

As he begins to walk out of the room he turns to the rest. "For those of you who don't have silver weapons, I suggest you stop by the storeroom and pick up some alchemical silver to coat your weapons with. Imps tend to be particularly vulnerable to it. And..." he turns his attention to the spellcasters of the group. "Fire is wasted on them unless you have flames more powerful than most first year students are capable of. Just a tip." Well, at least I actually did learn something in one of my classes.

Without another word he turns and heads out to the armory himself. I hate stooping to the use of weapons. But in some cases I suppose it is necessary. I may have to swindle a few imps to get them though.

To me, if they revolt they turn aganst the school. That means the use of whatever force necessary to quell the rebellion is acceptable. After all, they likely won't be holding back. I'm not going to allow myself to be injured worse just because someone says so. (That would be my character's point of view anyway).

You are all inside the cave, just inside the entrance. Low-light vision only extends about 30' down the tunnel. Darkvision works normally. I'm hoping for some forward motion so I can give a good, solid game update. (Hint... Hint... )

Also, if you guys want (you too Ion) I can go back to updating tuesday and saturday. But if I am going to do that you guys NEED to post often enough to allow it. Alright? Let me know your opinions.

Kyara wanders blindly into the darkness, slowly inching along the moist walls of the tunnel out to 100 paces. She notices only small curves in the tunnel, indicating that it isn't completely straight, but nothing that would indicate an actual turn or crossroads. The dead air in the tunnels also make navigating in the dark difficult. So she returns, not much better off than when she left.

Though Heironymus was expecting her return shortly, his name whispered in the dark as it was, made him jump with a start.

As Kyara and Heironymus start back up the slope the see the dwarf already in the cave, looking thoughtfully down the slope.
