My character is almost done, Wizard/Cleric. Not 100% sure if i should just go full blown as many spells as I can or if I should focus as a wizard in one school, possibly abjuration for SUPER BUFFS.

Thanks Kaelyn for clearing it up, and Grugg don't tempt me

Kaelyn, for character creation do you really mean 58 point buy, like a normal point buy? Or do you mean just adjust your stats so all 6 do not total more than 58. Because if it's the first way then that just seemed like waaaaay to many points, i can easily have three 18's with no down sides, but if it's the second way then it is impossible, since all 6 stats at 10 would equal 60.

to me, bards and illusionist sound like they'd be awesome to hang around together. one tells an epic tale while another makes cool illusions that go with the story. like magical shadow puppets.

Willem breathed a sigh of relief as he walked a few feet down the street, free from his forced dialogue with Vincent. He could only take so much of people asking questions before he needs to just escape. The faceless crowds of the streets aren't his first choice for solitude, but they'll make do for now. Well so he thought.

"Willem! *huff* *huff* Wai-wait up! I hope, *huff* I hope you don't mind me tagging, *huff* tagging along. I figured, maybe I could walk around with you? If that's ok? I can always go back to the Inn if I'll just be a bother.

Willem froze in the street. This Vincent sure was persistent and more of a talker than he originally thought, just shows how bad of a judge of character Willem was. He slowly turned around and looked at the young man who was out of breathe, and unsure what Willem was going to say next.

With a moment of hesitation, he spoke up.

"Sure, I guess. If you want to tag along you can, I'm going to seek out the ship and see what we're going to be sailing on."

He turned back around and continued walking a bit slower, letting Vincent catch up as he went.

Willem nodded along with what he said. An island chain then, and a new town. Anything to get him further away from here the better, and he smiled.

"Well, that sounds like it'll be something, that's for sure. An island and all that comes with it, right. I'm going to be off now, I have to finish getting a few things and then see the ship we're going to be going out on. Good meeting you, Vincent."

Willem stood, shoveling the last bit of rice he had into his mouth and started to walk for the door. He only glanced to the side to see the rest of the group pouring over maps and talking quietly, and then pushed himself through the doors and out the front.

A few thoughts ran through Willem's head when Vincent had his little outburst and embarassment. One, that this man wasn't the perfect no questions asked companion as originally thought. Two, any imposing sense or intimidation his large armed frame gave off was shattered at his studdering and blush, coupled with slouching in his chair. All Willem could do was lean back in his own chair and give a thin, wry smile.

"It's ok, I guess I do owe you at least that. Willem is my name. I'm glad we could have this chat."

He tipped back his mug of ale and let the rest of it flow into his mouth, the last foamy remnants signaling the end of his drink.

"I only have one more question really, do you know anything about where we'll be going? I've never heard of Tagea."

Yeah that's the line, I wasn't too sure. I guess a bunch of different areas would make more sense. Either way i'm leaving all that up to you fellows, Willem will have none of it

As Vincent went on with his story, Willem sighed. It wasn't that he thought this Vincent fellow was dumb, it was more about not getting an answer that he wanted, by asking a question that been less than straightforward on delivery.

Interacting with other people has never been his forte, and the less he spoke with people the better. Stealing a glance Willem noticed that Vincent was still talking about how he grew up training as a knight, learned to worship Mars, and used his blade to defend his friends and others. One thing he did notice also was that Vincent had yet to ask him of his name, and did not press any further when Willem didn't answer fully his original question. A companion that doesn't ask much and likes to hear himself talk, ideally he'd have no one ask anything but it could be worse.

"Interesting story, and I guess I've seen people use their blades for worse."

As Vincent formed his second question, Willem's form tensed up. his relaxed, almost non caring demeanor melted away and he sat up straighter, rubbing his rough stubble on his face and running his hand through his unevenly short cut hair.

"Me, well no big reason here. The gold helps and I plan on moving on through I guess."

He gave a weak smile to Vincent's chuckling, the large younger man's size imposing.

"So, do you know anyone else here?"

lol good point, but for some reason I keep thinking we all got a map of our own, so isn't it better to just have everyone have their own?

Willem slowly shoved rice into his mouth with a wooden spoon, looking out the window at the horse drawn carriages and wagons passing by. He almost didn't see the large man sit at his table.

"I noticed you're one of the people who've answered the call of treasure. My name is Vincent Wysman, I've also noticed you're also a man of the sword. How long have you been at it?"

Willem looked up directly into the eyes of the young man sitting across from him, and kept his gaze while he finished chewing his rice. His brown eyes kept Vincent locked for an almost uncomfortable length of time, until he spoke up.

" Aye, I'm one of the ones who answered the posters. But I'm no man of the sword, I'm just a man who knows where to stick a blade when needed."

Willem let a pause linger for a moment, and let his left elbow rest on the table and support his head while his right hand pushed rice around with a spoon. Before either could speak up again, he spoke once more.

"What about you, Vincent. How long have you been a man of the sword, and what's that blade ever done for you to make you want to be with it so long?"

He let the question linger while he shoved another helping of rice into his mouth, and waited for a reply.

Subject: Enter Willem

For weeks Willem had walked away from the so called life he once had. Horror and devastation were all that was left, and all he wanted to do was get away from it all. Even now his past life still pursued him in more ways than one, and the only way for him to escape was to keep heading south, away from the Detmold forest and to the coast that was his salvation.

He traveled light, only having a few pouches on his belt to hold the little food he had scavenged. He was dirty and mud splattered from head to toe, the foothills of the Voralberg Mountains catching what seemed like every rain cloud that passed by. Nights where it was warm enough he slept outside using his hooded cloak as a blanket. When it got to be too cold he tried to find a cave or shelter, even one or two times breaking into an isolated cabin, which thankfully were unoccupied.

Nestled in the side of a forested hill, Willem sat in a small but dry cave as outside it down-poured. He laid out the pieces of his studded leather armor, two long shin guards and matching thigh plates, leather vambraces and chest piece that covered his torso front and back, ending with the sides of the armor coming to a low point, protecting the flanks of his legs. The entire suit was black including the studs in the armor, the soft leather padding underneath a dark grey.

Using his dirk Willem cut the long hair that had grown, bringing his black hair back down to a short and messy length. He then moved onto trimming down the long beard he had been growing, cutting it all off and leaving a rough stubble.

He sat back against the cave wall, his armor across from him drying on rocks, and what little pack he had sat next to him. Reaching into one of his pouches he grabbed a handful of jerky and a potato he was able to dig up earlier and ate the last of his rations. The entire time he looked out through the rain and down the side of the hill, where cradled next to the river Innes sat Heristat, a city of lights like a bright beacon of civilization in a sea of forests. This was his next destination, a stepping stone on his journey away from this dreaded land. He wanted nothing more to do with this region of Aachen, but knew it wouldn't be easy. He laid down to sleep, thoughts of what was to come in the days ahead.

Two days of travel from the cave Willem stayed in brought him to the gates of Heristat. The early spring weather made for slow travel and cold nights, but he had survived. With weary eyes Willem walked into the town and made his way around the streets with one goal on his mind. He needed food for he was hungry, a bed to sleep because he was tired, and a way to leave this city as soon as possible. One thing got him all of this, and it was gold, something he had none of.
Finding work in the city wasn't too hard, the first few days he lent himself out hauling barrels and crates on the docks for some silvers, barely enough to get by each night. He knew something had to happen or he'd be stuck in the city forever, and that was when he saw it. On his way back to his dingy room that had barely more than a pile of hay, a poster caught his eye. 50 gold it said, 50 gold for someone willing to put their neck on the line, and no experience needed. That much gold could get him a boat out of here, but he would just run into the same problem again later with no money. No, he needed substantially more gold than this, but it was a start. He tore the poster down and drew his hood up close, and went to bed with thoughts of grand adventure in far away lands.

The next morning he made his way over to the "Toothless Dragon", a tavern that was much out of his league when he first got to the city. Upon entering it was easy to see where he needed to go, a group of armed and armored people sitting and standing around a man, who was just about to speak. Willem approached and sat moments before he started.

"Ye answered me notice fer stout uv heart explorators!
"No experience needed I writes!
"I see by da looks uv ye I got what I asked fer!
"Serves me right fer not bein a mite more particulatin in me choices!
"These be yer sacks uv 50 gold coins fer signaturin up!
"Gud fer payin off debts or openin accounts fer an eye ta yer futures!
"Makes no never mind ta me how ye spends yer fee!
"Now take dese here maps so ye kin all decide among yerselfs as to where ye be figurrin ta set sail in three days!
"Captan Crayfish kin be trusted well nuff fer shur!
"Same wit his scurvy crew!
"All ye need do when ye return be ta shew me where ye been!
"Plus wit Treasures nuff ta make me a gud profit fer me troubles!
"Ye git a gud slice fer yer troubles too!"

Willem nodded when approached by the man who handed him a sack of 50 gold, the metallic coins a welcoming weight. Some in the group spoke amongst themselves as they recieved their payment, and they all looked more formidable than himself. Compared to the swords, chains, and shields that some donned, his mud caked black armor and single dirk sheathed on his belt seemed a bit lack luster. Being one of the last to arrive, Willem had taken a seat in the back, and now was one of the first to leave, easily going unnoticed from his position in the back of the group. He knew he needed a blade, and he even knew how to wield one, but that didn't stop his hand from shaking when he thought of the last time his hand had gripped the pommel of a sword. Swallowing his nervousness, he shook out the shakes and carried on, heading for some markets further in the city.

He spent the next few hours shopping for some gear, buying a bedroll, another belt pouch, a good sized canteen for water, and finally a broad bladed sword. He chose a plain looking broadsword, the dull metallic blade unmarked, and the same dull colored pommel wrapped tightly with a brown leather grip. The only distinguishing thing about the blade was the blacksmiths mark that was hammered into the end of the pommel, a small bird of some sort with a hammer over it. The blade hung off of a plain leather sheathe on his left hip, two leather straps keeping it snug in place. He then bought a good meal, and then decided to keep the rest back at the Toothless Dragon, so quickly he headed back.

Upon entering he saw a few party members talking about where to go, and confirming some place he never heard of named Tagea. A quick smile crossed his face at the idea of going somewhere he has never heard of, his dreams slowly becoming a reality. He asked the man who spoke earlier if he could keep the rest of his money here, safe away for when they return. Purchasing a hot meal and a mug of cold ale, Willem sat by himself away from the group and ate peacefully, happy that his life is going somewhere far away from the dark forests of the north.
