Relos focused in on the weakened bandit. The quicker he can dispatch this foe the faster he can turn his attention to the other and stop them from bleeding him as they have been.

Once more Relos took his stance and kept his defense high and struck out again on the weakened cut throat. He planned to go and meet his companions as soon as possible and help them in their fight, but he knew tying up two more combatants to the south was a benefit in its own way, keeping them from swarming his comrades. If only he could spare a glance north to see if it was as bad as it really seemed, the feint glow of orange an ominous sight in the background.

Relos took the beating with gritted teeth and fought on. He never forgot his training or words of wisdom from his master as he fought to put down these cut throats once and for all. He took his familiar stance and slashed out one more time.

Relos had felt a pang of satisfaction as he bled the first opponent who moved to attack him, and also a bit of frustration as he almost was disarmed in his trip attempt.

Guess I'll have to put them down the hard way...

The thought crossed his mind as he slipped into a defensive stance, widening the space between his hands on the haft of his halberd, ready to parry and block any blows from both sides of him. He stood with either opponent on his sides for his best chance of sight, and waited for an opportunity.

(will use combat expertise to subtract 2 from my attack and add 2 to my ac, just to spite their flank bonus :p then i will attack the wounded opponent on my initiative.)

Relos knew these men wouldn't back down the moment he saw them. His confirmation came back in the form of his sixth sense telling him these men weren't pure of heart or noble of mind.

Readying his halberd for an attack, Relos stared at the men he was about to put down. Did they deserve it? Probably, yeah. Would he still feel bad about it later on? Of course. Every time he killed someone he couldn't help but think of their families; Mothers, brothers, sisters, fathers, children, all these people this soul would be leaving behind. What were his motivations for turning to banditry and thieving? Maybe his own family was starving, or he was press ganged into being violent. Chances were that none of these things were the case, but as slim as it was it could still be a possibility that Relos would never be able to forget. Every stray soul that he had snuffed out would be one more blemish on his own that he would atone for in the after life.

He waited for the men to make their move, letting them have the chance to look upon the sky for one last time.

(Relos will ready a trip attack on the first one who charges him, since they go first before him in initiative. if they don't attack him, when it gets to his round he'll charge and smite. Also if his trip succeeds he'll free attack smite the guy who's on the ground.)

Relos watched the events unfold in front of him. Fortunately the bandits didn't start burning or destroying anything right from the start so he staid still, watching them ditch their disguises and reveal themselves for ordinary bandits. He listened as the leader gave them their various orders; ransack the hut, search the shed, stay with the horses. He also listened to the small talk, the disappointment of Isiah not being here for them to kill for fun, he was glad the suggestion was brought up to have them stay in town.

He waited until the two men nearest him were given their task, when out of the corner of his eye he could see the movement of wheat in the far off fields. His companions must be making their moves, so now it was time for him. He stepped out of the wheat with halberd in hand, battle ready and determined.

"Lay down your weapons now and yield..."

He looked over at the attacks and spells being cast on the enemies, and then brought his gaze back over to his two opponents.

"...Lest you suffer the same fates as your companions."

(Relos will ready an attack upon the first enemy to enter his threatened sqaures, assuming they don't yield. As he speaks he'll at will detect evil on the whole enemy group. If they don't move to attack, but don't yield, I'll charge the closets one. If they yield, I'll try to use non lethal damage to knock them out)

i have to leave for work now so I guess Relos will take 20 on trying to hide in the wheat on the west side of the southern dirt path. the little 6 squares of wheat. If the raiders spot him he'll approach them, if not he'll watch what they do and if they start to break or burn anything he'll approach.

also when everyone is searching the house and shed he'll keep an eye out to make sure no one breaks anything.

Drumming his fingers on the table, Relos thought of Calopee's words. Trying to find out why the raiders were coming could prevent further attacks on any other farms. He looked over the group and spoke up.

"I think Calopee has a point. I wouldn't mind seeing why these attackers are here and if we could find something out then we could possibly prevent future incidences. If everyone else wants to I'm ok with seeing what they do now that Isiah has complied. But let it be known I will not stand by and let any harm come to this farmstead. I gave my word to him and his kids. If they destroy this farm then they essentially kill all three of them in the process."

He kept a stern look on the whole time, his features accentuating the seriousness of his comments. He wanted to convey to them all that he was up for working together and trying out different plans, but by no mean would he say anything he did not mean to back up. Relos took a deep breathe and tried to unwind a little bit, the realization that this was their first serious confrontation together was must of been getting to him. Rats are annoying but fighting another group with people who haven't been tested in battle with you was something else entirely. He hoped that they could work well together on the battle field or his time in this group could be shorter than he hoped.

it seems like the consensus here is relos and maybe another person meets the riders, while everyone else waits in hiding. sound good?

relos would probably want to confront them as they approach, wanting no harm to come to any of their property. or if they just end up riding off after approaching then we'd have an awkward situation since they might come back some time later. Whether that late is next day or next month who knows, but we gotta take care of these bandits here and now

Even though Relos didn't venture forth into with with his companions or survey the field for any battle field advantage, he was preparing for tonight in his own way; reflecting on lessons from the past. Seventeen pages into his small leather bound journal and he had found the words he was looking for. He read on for hours taking his time and reflecting on his masters wisdom, re reading things over and over again making sure he understood exactly what he meant. He made sure to take time in between chapters to absorb and reflect, and even on occasion help Isiah and his sons around the house when needed.

Looking outside at the setting sun, the fields swaying in the wind, Relos thought about his conversations with Isiah and his kids through out the day. He was certain that everything here was what it was at face value. No subterfuge involved, this was a case of banditry going too far. Even when they were done telling him everything they knew (which was nothing) he gave them a copper apiece for a bit of candy in town and when he was in private, gave Isiah three silver for the meal he was laying out for them.

"There, that should be enough to cover whatever my friends and I will have today. Please take it and don't feel like you owe me anything, It's my pleasure to help all of Gians sowers and tillers."

Relos decided that letting the others talk before him while at the table would be better, since he didn't really find anything out of importance besides his own solace within the pages of his journal. To his pleasant surprise he agreed with everything the group had to say so far.

"Yes, I agree that you should hide away for the time being while we take care of this. No need to put you and your boys in harms way, if you need I'll put you three up for the night at the Bearded Dragon."

He looked to the rest of the group for any input they had on the situation. He was sure if any of them had any useful information that they would spread the knowledge among them, and if they kept quiet then the day about town must of not been as fruitful as he'd hoped.

Well, I'm fairly certain Relos has the highest diplomacy if we want to talk. I can serve as the front line and the one who speaks to them about whatever the group agrees on. Btw no work today so i'll post tonight. I'm tempted not to since harassment from grugg is really fun

Relos is thinking of the situation and wondering how to minimize damage to the property, but when the "fighting" breaks out and everyone kind of goes their separate ways, Relos will stay at the table studying his book that he keeps with him.

it's all good, don't think i'm offended or mad or anything I figured since we have some newer people this would be a good opportunity to point out something that only really comes up in play by post games.

on another note, do you want to still say that thing about the knight? remember relos has no idea and thinks you guys are the people who killed the giant

aaaaaaand i was ninja'd by philo lol

btw, I think something with some of the newer people of the inn has to be brought up, and that is rping other's characters. Such as schnozzle's line involving relos smiling at him at the end of his post. i know it's not something big but it's good form to stay away from dictating actions of other peoples characters and even NPC's, unless of course it has been cleared with the DM first.

So if you could schnozzle, please edit your post so it doesn't have anything like that

i hope i'm not sounding too rude, i think this is something that hasn't been mentioned yet and i just wanted to drop a little tip on how to RP via forums since it is quite different than other ways of RP.

other than that though I really enjoy the way your character development is coming along for Mal!

Yeah I have a few knowledge's, but none that will help us right now.

also Relos is obviously going with the morally correct option with the quest, don't feel obligated to follow suit but if you do I'm sure you'll score brownie points with your local paladin

double edit, btw schnozzle, not sure if this might alter your post or not but remember, Relos doesn't know about the knight and thinks you four really did kill the giant, so careful with that ;p

Relos stood outside splashing the cool water on his face, helping to rid the last of the morning hang over from his head. His armor and kit lay by his side and just as he was about to begin cleaning himself up Sehanine approached, using a cantrip to help clean him up in half the time.

He smiled and gave a slight bow towards her.
“Thank you for that, I guess that is much easier than trying to use this tiny pump. Would you mind helping me with my armor? I could do this by myself but it’s a huge hassle and we’d be able to head out quicker.”  He moved towards his chest plate and started to slip it over his head and buckle the sides together, saving the more tedious things for last in case Sehanine does come to help.

Soon enough they were on the road, the warm morning sun that seemed to assail them earlier now making him feel refreshed and full of energy. The walk through the town to Isiah’s farm would only take thirty minutes or so but that was enough time to spot the difference in demeanor. Last time he had come through Schell there was a cloud of depression that hung over everything, a faint hint of hopelessness lingering in the air. But now things have changed, ever since the events at giant’s end people are hopeful and even some times cheery. Whoever they pass by seems to walk with a head held higher as if they now had some dignity given to them just by being from Schell.

“If all this change and happiness came from just one good deed then I definitely joined the right group. Hopefully this Isiah fellow isn’t in too much trouble but whatever’s got him tied up we should be able to handle.

Making some small conversation on the way made short work of the trip. They arrived at the wheat farm where over a muddy path sat a stone hut that housed Isiah and his kids.

“Almost gave up waitin’ there. Well come in, I’ll be expectin’ the kids will want to meet you before we get down to business, then.”

Relos followed close behind Isiah as he entered and leaned his halberd up against the wall. Inside was a small yet cozy home that felt more alive with the excited ravings of small children. He smiled down at the kids and tried to answer what he could but as soon as he got one word out a slew of new questions were already asked. He gave up as Isiah shooed his kids outside for their daily chores.

“I can’t rightly tell you how please I am you’re helping us, with the way life’s been here and the boys and all, I just can’t afford to lose the farm. Figured you’d have trouble rememberin’, state you were in last night. I’ve been having trouble with some folk from the sands. I’m not a man of means, but I’m due a payment on the first half of my crops shortly, I fear for my land and the lives of my boys, if you can help me, I’ll give you every coin I make from the sale, it’s all I can offer. I haf’ta attend my stock, please make yourselves at home while you consider my offer.”

For Relos, the choice was obvious. They needed to help the man and save his farm. No one should deal with the fear of losing their livelihood and if these desert bandits want to make an existence out of fear mongering, then they’ll have to answer.

Once Isiah was outside, Relos looked around to the rest of the group. “Well, to me it’s plain as day. People who want to live their lives feeding off of the fear of others need to answer for making others so miserable. On the subject of payment, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I took any money from him and his family. I have enough gold for myself to live comfortably, so my share will go back to Isiah. By all means if any of you want to keep your share please do so, it will be rightfully earned by possibly risking your life. Hopefully it won’t need to come down to violence but something tells me that these people won’t be so easily swayed.”

Relos sat at the sable with a pondering look on his face, his hands clasped. He thought about the possible fight that will be happening tonight and what could be done to minimalize on any damage here and to them.
