Xaris waited by in the hole for his companions to come to his aid. Surely the warhorse that was there when he left could lift him up again. But then a sound that was now familiar raised the hairs on the back of his neck. He could here the quiet whistle of arrows flying above him, and knew fighting had commenced again. Without hesitation Xaris started climbing the wall that was opposite of the way he came down, so he would end up near his fallen companion. These potions could save her life, and no stinking greenskin was going to steal her away now.

Xaris bent down and picked up the wand, its ivory shaft the whitest and purest thing he's ever seen. Its quartz head was equally beautiful. He took his three new gifts, and turned toward his pack, putting the wand and the coin in their for now, he held the conch in one hand, and the pouch in the other. As he was standing in the mouth of the entrance, he turned towards the creature and smiled.

" I hope I have brought you joy, friend. I shall come back again, on my return trip through here, and bring you more gifts from across the country. Me and you share one thing, that we have lost our home, and are ultimately alone. I will be back. Good bye."

He waved and started his walk up the path, staring at the conch, the thing that made him stop in his tracks on his way down. He got to the door, and put the conch away safely and tieying the pouch to his belt, and pried the door open. He turned it back shut, and made sure it was closed tight, so nothing would come down here possibly harm his new friend. He looked up at the hallway above, and heard voices, glad his friends are still here.

" Kas, I have gotten some potions! I think they are healing but am not sure. I will explain later how I had gotten them, but not I think they might save Artanis!"

With that, the mighty gnome stood, hoping that they would soon get him out of the pit, and up to his friend in need.

Xaris chuckled at the creature and its simple amusement, as he took out his coin purse and held it high into the air, above the water. He smiled as he overturned the pouch, letting all of its contents fall into the crystaline water. As the rain of coins ended, he haded the leather pouch to the creature.

" Here, you can even have the bag itself. I have no need right now for this much coin. It's yours. I hope you find serenity with this, as I feel sympathy for you losing your home also, not being able to get it back. And yes, the shiny stick would be nice to have, it may save me and my friends one day."

Xaris smiled at the excitement of the creature. He then reached into his pouch, and pulled out five platinum and thirty gold. He set them on the floor below him, and stood back up. He wondered about the words that the creature spoke, and remarked on them. He opened the pouch to see two and a half potions inside, blue and muddy grey. he sighed in relief at the thougth and hopes that those two could be healing potions.

" How did you come to live here then, if this is'nt your home. And do you know why the moss is glowing?"

Xaris looked at the creature, and then back at the items by his feet. He wondered what each of them did, and decided what two to take.

" I am glad you like my gifts. The two treasures of yours that I will take will be the leather pouch, and the conch shell."

Xaris bent down and took the conch shell and the leather bag, just like how the creature had taken his things. He hoped maybe healing potions were inside the bag, to help the ones who need it.

" I thank you for your gifts. Would you know what any of them do, or why this cave is here in the first place? If you need more shinies, I can give them to you. Maybe even give you even shinier things for you last treasure?"

Xaris looked around the room, and stared at the bottom of the pool. He jumped a bit when the creature swam to the bottom to get a few things, and brought them up. One was a large gold looking coin, another a leather pouch, and another a conch of the most beautiful blue hues he's ever seen.

His skin began to crawl though when it spoke out, its small and slender form not matching the grotesque voice that came from it.

“My treasures. You want treasure You trade your treasure for my treasure?”

Uh yes, yeah whatever can help. Xaris walked over to his pack and took the belt out of his backpack. He never knew what it did, but it did have some magical properties. It was large in size so hopefully he could trade it to the creature for all three. He lifted the belt and brought it the edge, also adding in nine of his gold pieces.

" Uhh, will this do? This belt, I got it off of a large Ogre me and my friends killed up above. It is magical, but what it does I do not know."

Beinsel smiled as the gathering around him gave out thank you's and praises of good will. He shook many hands, and even kissed a baby for good luck. He was almost taken by surpise though when Percifeer came up and hugged him greatly, whispering into his ear a word of thank you.

" Anything I can do to help."

She stepped back, and Beinsel looked around the gathering group, remembering all of the faces that were infront of him. Miran, Llammoth, Pio, and Percifeer. He smiled and was happy to be back, to help his brothers and sisters in a time of need.

" It's good to see you all again, I'm glad you are all safe and doing well. But what is your business around these parts? This does not look like the usual place to be. And let me say it one more time, it is great to see you all again. Every thought of home tugged at me to go back when I was out on the road, and now I finally had a reason to, it feels great."

Beinsel put away his lute, and straightened out his finely made blue tunic, getting a crease out of it. He looked up and chuckled slightly.

" I guess I can't help myself when it comes to looking nice infront of ones who I have'nt seen in ages."

" Keep the vines distracted Gothard, dont let them get anyone!"

Loda yelled to her companion, who had already done well enough to buy Geim some time. Again the wolf tore into the vines, hoping to loosen them some more. She commanded the fiery ball to attack again, as she wove a spell with her hands to aleviate some of Gheims wounds.

I hope this is enough....I'm not lettin this cutie slip through my fingers this easily!

Loda smiled to herself as she cast her healing spells over the unconcious Gheim.

Xaris wandered down this path, wondering if it was ever going to stop. He gripped his javelin ever tighter as he descended, and froze in place as the sound of music reached his ears. He touched the unworked walls, seeing if it would show anything of what lay up ahead. He edged himself on and kept walking, until he reached a large cavern, which was aglow with a strange moss. Even stranger was the creature sitting on the rock infront of him. The music was coming from it, and when it spotted Xaris, it dove behind the rock, into the safety of the water, and then peered up at him, seeming to take in the grayish green skinned gnome curiously.

Xaris put the javelin away in his pack, and put his hands out forward, showing he was no threat.

" It is ok, I am not here to hurt you, or anything in here." He repeated himself in common, evlen, sylvan and gnome, wondering if it would some how understand. He slowly walked ever closer, and took his backpack off, letting it rest on the floor. The only thing left on him was the quiver of javelins and the gnomish greatsword resting on his back. Now less encumbered, he walked to the edge of the pool, taking in the greatness of the cavern below him. Even here, below the surface of earth, nature spreads its beauty.

In common, gnome, elven, and sylvan again, he spoke out. "I need healing for my friend. She is hurt, maybe dieying. I came down here to see what I could find, to save her life. I mean no harm, and am only here to preserve the gift that all the gods have given us, not take it."

He stood at the edge of the pool, looking around, with a smile on his face. In the midst of all the chaos above, this sanctuary was laying in wait down here, this beautiful music playing all the time.

Xaris looked around the webbed room, and spotted a few webbed corpses, a giant spider dead by the blades of his fellows, and a door, half concealed by spider silk. He thought for a moment, and decided to check out the door. He chouted up to Kas, who helped him down.

" There is a door down here. Thank you for helping me down, but I fear I cannot do much in the ways of helping move the wounded, being to small. But I might find some healing potions or something just as good in this room, so I shall delve into the unknown and try an recover something good. Thank you again for helping me down, I hope the moving of the ladder helps."

With that Xaris moves to make sure the rope around the ladder was secure, and moves towards the door, scraping away the webs around the door handle with one of his javelins that he grabbed from his back. He tried to ignore the corpse infront of him, but could not help but think of the horrible demise this man came to. If anything threatening was behind the door, a javelin will meet it head on.

" A hero, is someone who willingly helps others, no matter what kind of menial task or death defying act it may be. Someone who thinks and cares for others. And by that, you are all heros just for considering to help us. But I am glad you decided to go. Dont think of us as lazy or beggars, we would get them ourselves. And like I said, most of us wanted to wait. But it just to happens you are all here, and in that fact alone, a lot of the townsfolk are overjoyed, and anxious to see what you say. They might of over done it with a lavious dinner, but can you blame them? Children and loved ones lost, and the only ones who could save them need to decide. They are just trying to show they are good people, and I hope they did a good job of it."

She coughed slightly, and took a breather; realizing she ran on.

" But dont mind me, you all already agreed. Now, I'll finish my drink, and leave you all to your meal. And as to local lore, the story is that an ancient and powerful wizard dabbled to long in the arcane arts, and catastrophe struck. His tower is now only a pile of rubble, long forgotten for many years."

With that the old adventurer turned around, and took another swig of her drink, and started a conversation with the bartender. Obviously she was trying to leave the talking at that, and hope she had done good.

A few minutes later, the companions spoke a few words, and finished their meals; some left early in minor disgust, and others accepted happily. But it was unanimous that they would go after the children, and help this forlorne village.

Rao, Mourn, and Aramil exited afterwards, their stomachs full of a hearty meal. They spotted Brendalla riding Max outside, and with a quick scan could find Karlana sitting on a rock that sat next to the tavern, looking at the sky as the sun sank ever further into mountains of the spine of the world. Venethia approached from the manor house that was to their left, down the stoney road.

" If you accept or not, please, stay a night. Free lodging. Your presence here lifts our spirits alone, and if theres anything we can do to help, we can."

Venethia leads them on back the main road they came down and entered another building. This one was painted a dull green, with a wood burning of a dragon laying its back with its eyes closed, was arched in almost a half moon shape, with a lazy smile was on its face on the door. In common underneath it read "The sleepy Wyrm".

They entered the building, and inside was one long skinny room, with a small desk and a man sitting behind it. Four rooms flanked the fronts of him, and a staircase headed off to the mans right. Venethia spoke up and mentioned the five rooms she reserved. She was handed five keys, and handed them out to all five of the party.

" If you do not want to sleep in here tonight, just give Andiel your key. I bid you goodbye for now, and hope you have a good nights rest."

She quickly walked out of the inn into a now darkened Drungelle, wandering off to attend to some former business. Quickly the party decided on where they were going to sleep, either they would accept their free rooms and go to sleep, or find a place outside. But whatever the choice, the night was uneventful, and the next morning the five found themselves awake, and together outside of The Sleepy Wyrm. Soon Venethia approached them once again. On her back though was a long thin object, covered in a cloth.

" I hope you had a wonderful nights rest. I had Jenna tell me that you all said yes. Well all I can do now is tell you that we think they are held up in the ruins north north-west of here. But Jenna said that already. I hope you all the best of luck, and if you keep walking past the well over there..." She points to the well at the end of the main street." You will meet the High forest in about half an hours time. Then you walk north northwest and you should come up on the ruins. There might be some paths up there, but I'm not sure."

She went to turn around but whipped back to her front and took the object off of her back.

" Oh and Jenna wanted me to give you this." She unraveled it, and a shortspear fell out into her hand. When handed over, the wielder could sense some sort of magical properties, but of what kind is not known. " Please, take this and the best of luck to you."

Venethia dissappeared into the inn, the door swinging shut behind her. The fivesome stood their infront of the building, birds chirping and the sun coming out of the east, the day ready to be seized.

Lheriel and Jeskell made their ways up the stairs, and waited as they all spoke. Items of many origins were in here, all most likely magical in their own way. They spoke, and realized that this item was more valuable than anything they could of imagined. They heard of churches being ransacked and looted, and Lheriel was going to hopen his mouth to comment, when the doors burst open. In came a priest.

”YOUR HOLINESS! DARKNESS HAS FALLEN IN THE CHAPEL, AND A –“

His words were cut short as a dagger stuck out of his back. A black shadowy figure came up, and Lheriel instantly drew his weapons the moment he saw him. He recognized him as the figure on the ship!.

" This being is no mere mortal. I seen him on the flaming ship as it sunk. How he got here is beyong me, just be ready for anything!"

He twirled his swords as Jeskell knocked an arrow, ready to fire.

" To hell if this guy trys an fight all of us in here, no way he can win!"

Xaris felt the hand of Elesia on him, and knew what she said was right. But there was still one thing he could do in his life, and that was redeem himself for not being able to save his family, or pay back the family of the dead soldiers. That he could do.

He looked up and smiled, and cleared his face of all tears.

" Thank you, you have changed my life for the better and wisened me up beyond any kind of measure. I am tired, I'm going to go lay down now. I thank you again."

Xaris pauses for a moment, and then quickly hugs the leg of Elesia, and walks off to the fire, where others were dozing off. He laid down also, with the same intention in mind.

It did'nt even feel like he had gone to sleep when a loud thunder clap had woken him. His gnomish ears alert to every sound of nature. He sat up quickly and looked to the skies, but no clouds. He stood, and seen Kas run from the cave.

"You know, a couple of us are trying to get some sleep here! So, just because they couldn't be bothered to wait for the morrow... Besides, what do you expect me to do. Suddenly grow wings so I can fly across that hole, be strong enough to carry Artanis' body, and fly all the way back here? I think not. I don't even want to see if I can get across that hole. If they got themselves into whatever it is they got themselves into, then they can probably get themselves out of it. In any case, I doubt I'd be of any help, why don't you go, Xaris?"

He looked up to Linnix, her face half aglow from the burning fire.

" If you cannot make the jump, my gnomish legs most likely will not either. But I will go and see if they need help, there might be more orcs."

Xaris runs back into the cave with his greatsword drawn, until he gets to the gap. He looks at it, and decides to see if he can climb the walls. He sheathes his greatsword, and starts on his way down.

(( could I take 10 on climbing down the wall? If I can, I will. ))

"The Green Dragon Brigade was one of Tethyr's more skilled, and zealous groups of regimental soldiers in the time of war. Consisting almost entirely of men, most skilled at the rangerly or stealthy arts, the Green Dragon's purpose was to infiltrate suspected areas of rebellion or mutiny within the kingdom's borders, and quell them, that they might not cause trouble for the monarchy who was already desperately fighting against not only the insurgents, but tertiary, outside forces, such as the drow, or amnish forces seeking to expand their territory beyond the peaks in Tethyr's time of struggle."

Xaris just stood there, thinking of everything that was just told to them. It would make sense at how easily the humans picked through the forest, and how they were able to get to the dead center of the Wealdath woods. He always pondered at how they humans were able to get to them then and not any earlier time.

" So, they must of thought us as an outside force? They tricked the goblins into killing us, so they didn't have to bother with three dozen gnomes. "

He looked up to Elesia, a small tear coming down his cheek, and a smile on his face.

" For twelve years, I wandered all of Tethyr to find this information. Something drew me here to you, all of you. Thank you again..."

He looked up, and chuckled slightly.

" Oh, you might be wondering what happened." He sighed. " Well twelve years ago, goblins burned our village, killed, desecrated, and even ate some of my family. For centuries they did not know how to fight, and when these humans came, they gave them the knowledge, arms, and insentive to kill us all. Then the humans killed the piss soaked goblins, leaving nothing. Well except me. My father was to thank for that. Now one of the reasons I travel is to find this group. To exact revenge. But that is not the main reason why I walk the roads I do..." He looks up, tears strolling down his face, but they are tears of joy.
" That reason is of a different mind set, not one born from this human treachery."
