Hate to say it, but it looks like we may have to call this fizzled. While it is clear that the 2 active players are more than capable of handling the bees, I cannot see moving on at this point after having lost 3 people. I'll give it a week to see if at least one other person posts, and then I'm afraid I'm gonna have to call this one...for the time being at least.

As Aim is a full round action you would not have been able to reposition until your next turn, but yes, you would be able to locate some trees to provide you with cover and limit the bee's movement.

For the sake of keeping the combat moving after the first bee fell I just had the bees zoom in and did not put much thought into the distance at which they initially appeared, I was more concerned with keeping the action moving at this point.

Yes, we in fact do appear to have lost Puff, which the group will likely notice once the chaos of battle has passed. Ayrn has withdrawn from the game for the time being for personal reasons.

Subject: round 1 FIGHT!

With practiced focus and precision Gelion nocked an arrow, held his breath just long enough to steady the shot, and let fly an arrow from his bow, striking the bee solidly in its chest, the arrow embedding itself into the creature.

The contemplative Simon is next to act, adeptly raising his staff up and uttering the arcane incantations required to produce arcane flames from the otherwise simple implement. A burst of bright red flames shoots across the 15 yard gap between the mage and his target and the crackle and foul smell of burning bee fur couples with the soft thud of the bee's mass falling abruptly to the forest floor.

No sooner than the insect had hit the ground, still smoking, two more bees flew into sight, as if alerted to the presence of the Falcons by some telepathic cry for help from their hive-mate before he fell.

The first of the two new bees zooms toward young Gelion, and managed to land a painful sting to the hume's shoulder, causing the archer to flinch as the burn of venom could be felt, suddenly the young man felt as if his bow had gotten heavier.

Already distressed by the presence of one such bee the ronso ninja wasted no time turning her attention to the second new bee and let the bolt meant for the original bee fly and it struck the creature in the abdomen, tearing through the flesh.

The bee, zipped across the space between itself and the ronso, attempting to sting back at the intruder that had stung it. With practiced grace the ronso sidestepped the stinger and avoided being perforated by the insect.

Tuman and Elwyss sprung into action, not to be showed up by the others. Elwyss took aim with her tiny bow at the bee that had engaged Silvira and managed to fire an arrow through the creature's wing, causing it to stagger mid-air and have to regain its balance. Tuman's incantations were directed toward the bee that had engaged Gelion, knowing the archer would have a hard time engaging a foe at melee range, the power drawn from his tome of arcane knowledge striking the vermin squarely.

````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
((So to recap: Gelion landed a devastating first shot on our initial bee for 12 damage, allowing the 9 fire damage from Simon's staff to finish the beast off before it had a chance to react. Being a hive mind the newcomers knew which target had caused their hive-mate the most harm and instinctively went for him first, landing a painful sting for 4 damage, and Gelion failed his fort save against the poison and has taken 1 point of Str damage as well. Silvira's gut ripping bolt inflicted 5 damage on the bee she fired on, and Elwyss managed to deal 2 damage to the same bee. Tuman's attack inflicted 5 points of damage to the other bee.))
Initiative is now:
Gelion
Simon
Bee 2
Silvira
Bee 3
Tuman/Elwyss
ooc = Out Of Character designating that anything ooc is player knowledge as opposed to character knowledge.
And while yes, the post does state the girls are shipped in and pretty much sold into slavery, it does not rule out the fact that the dead ladies may have been in the city long enough that someone could (at the very least) know where they were "working" or who they "belong" to... Just a couple thoughts.
Point-Blank Shot effects every shot made within 30 ft, no declaration needed.
Rapid Shot is a Full-Attack Action, and can be used in any round you choose to forego your move action. Just remember the -2 to attack rolls when using Rapid Shot.
Limit Breaks work a bit differently, in that they can only be used when you are at half health or lower. At 1st level, you get 1 limit break usage per day, and every 4 levels thereafter, you gain an additional limit break usage.
Aim is not a Limit Break, but rather a class feature, similar to how sneak attacks are a class feature of rogues. I knew what you meant though, so no worries there. Your Aim bonus is only +1 right now, so you can only wait one segment, so you would wait the segment, getting the +1 as well as the +1 for PBS, granting a total bonus still of +2. I should also note that Aim cannot be used with Rapid Shot.
Dead bodies, bite marks, maps showing sewer line intersections, slavers and missing cops; if nothing else this would be an interesting first case. "Knowing what we're up against would be the smartest course of action, I agree. However, all of us trying to stake out the docks might be more than a little suspicious. I suggest a couple of us, maybe ones who are familiar with the area and can either stay out of sight, or at least not seem out of place, should do a little recon work." Poking through the files he adds, "If we can find anyone who may have known or had any connection with our ladies, or the missing cops for that matter, it may also be wise to ask them for some additional insight."
((As he was not there for much of the initial team intros he cannot readily make suggestions as to who would best fill these roles. OOC though, and I stress this is ooc, and admit it is a bit meta-thinking, it makes the most sense that Pyrus and Dak do the recon as they are likely the most stealth focused, and our cleric may be able to get some info from some of the people that frequent his shelter/soup kitchen. Then again it may not be too wise to be asking too many questions, it'd make it obvious we know more than we should...))
((Assuming here that no one opted to make any side stops other than at the pantry I'll move on with this as if you have all met Nam at the gate as requested))
Arriving at the gates you notice Nam is leaned casually against a neighboring home waiting patiently for each of you to arrive. As the final recruit arrives he makes a quick motion with his clawed hand for you to follow and proceeds to exit through the gate and head westward toward the logging camp where your mission is to begin. It is still early afternoon, the sky is clear, and it is a comfortable temperature, having averaged in the low 90s much of the summer (living in the shadows of the mountains to the north has its advantages after all).
The hike to the lumber mill takes only about 90 minutes or so, and you are greeted by a stocky, sweaty bearded man with just a hint of panic in his expression and voice as he greets your crew, "My name is Jurek, and I more or less run this place. I see from the crimson standard you lot must be the help we asked for in dealin' with this...problem" Nam gives a silent nod of acknowledgement and turns to you five, "Have at it, I'll be watching if things get out of hand."
Jurek, who had been expecting the Varg to be helping (he did look a mite more capable than the new recruits after all) shrugged and continued while leading you toward the woods, "My crew knows the drill for the most part, it ain't no secret the bees nest in this forest, and any experienced 'jack worth his salt knows how to spot the signs that a hive is nearby and will usually avoid the trees around it. Well this new kid, a galka, eager to get to work and earn some pay went out with his axe and started hacking away at a tree without checkin' for none of the signs and stirred up a right nasty nest of the buzzers."
As Jurek was explaining you realize you can hear the droning of wings and other signs that the "buzzers" as Jurek had called them, were still quite active. "The drones have been attackin' any of my 'jacks that come within 15 feet or so in either direction, I still got men out there workin' that can't make it back to camp without bein' chased by a buzzer. These boys are right handy with an axe, but they ain't warriors, and no one wants to have to have one of those stingers hooked into their hide." Jurek stops, glances over each of you quickly, "You lot look capable enough though, and this is far as I go, I still got 'jacks needin' tendin' to at camp." He points you in the direction the buzzing is clearly coming from and heads back to the base camp as stated.
Pushing forward the buzzing gets louder, so you know danger is at hand ((no surprise round, you all know what's coming after all)) when the first drone comes speeding toward the group trying to drive you from their territory. The vermin is roughly 5 feet long with a comparable wingspan.
((Initiative order is as follows:
Gelion: Init 22
Simon: Init 21
The Bee: Init 19
Silvira: Init 15
Tuman: Init 11
Yohn: Init 6 (sorry, bad roll)
The bee is currently about 15 feet from whichever of you took point. Those of you with familiars, they act on your initiative. You do not have to make your posts in this order, simply post as to what your character will be doing during their turn, and once I have posts for everyone I'll resolve combat.))
Sorry for the delay, still waiting on internet to get turned back on...
Also, I'd like to ask, if you see this before you post your next update in-game, that speed combat along if you all could post applicable modifiers and such along with your posts that would help greatly. For example, if I was a player and Nam was attacking a target, I would include Nam's attack mod (ex: +4 to hit) and applicable damage (ex 1d6+3 or whatever). Any additional effects such as spell effects, status ailments they can inflict, and that sort of info would also be helpful so I won't have to go back and forth between typing an update and looking up your bab and specific damage values.
For the sake of example, and because I feel like it, I'll also post an example of what Nam's post might look like if he were to attack the bee.
As the giant insect buzzed into the view Nam sharpened his gaze, locking a steely glare on the creature as he balled his fists and rushed in to land the first blow in what was sure to be a long battle once the rest of the hive was made aware of their pressence.
((Nam will be performing a charge ending in an unarmed strike, attack mod with the charge is +6 to hit and his damage is 1d6+4. I made these numbers up, I'm not at my desktop to look at Nam's sheet, but you get the idea I think.))
This way, once I get ready to resolve the round all I have to do is make that attack roll, compare against the bee ac, and roll damage if he lands the blow. Where as without the ooc stats I would have to go find Nam's sheet, get his BAB, his str mod, and then pull damage values off the sheet as well, taking away from time I could be typing the response or making attack rolls for other characters/monsters.
My internet is actually still not back on yet, still having to use my cell. I did post a quick note for our Ronso friend, a line about Nam, and a quick entry in the adventure journal for this first mission. I hope to have an actual post up some time this week, waiting on Fey but if I need to I'll post on the assumption the Ronso made her way to the gates.
The duskblade took a long drink from the pint placed before him, and not moments later their table was approached by a masked figure who informed him he had had no reason to rush all the way here. At this realization he blushed slightly, looking down to hide his shame, feeling like a bit of a fool now. When advised they may want to consider disguises it brought Arshavir back to memories of a happier, carefree time.
Harcourt had grown up on tales of masked adventurers who had taken up alternate identities in order to live more peaceful lives without celebrity status upon retirement, an idea that had always intrigued the lad. Now it seemed he would have his chance to become once such adventurer of legend, all while helping the city he had called home all his life.
As a child he would pretend to be such an individual, playing with a "sword" fashioned from a stray piece of wooden latice and a dwarf-sized ash grey cloak his father had given him as a young boy. The sword he carried now though was not made of wood and he had a full, human-sized cloak, but the idea remained the same.
Leaving the meeting he did not proceed immediately to the address on Monroe, but rather made his way to a costume shop frequented by actors to purchase a face painting (disguise) kit, and a small leather mask in a hawk motif. Paying for his purchase he then proceeded back to his modest apartment and grabbed his grey cloak from the wardrobe and packed it into the pack, opting to continue wearing his navy blue cloak while out during the day, as well as packing up anything else he might find useful into his pack before heading out. The face paints and masked wrapped neatly into the cloak for safe transport.
At dusk he left his home and headed into an alleyway he knew to usually be quiet and unoccupied and removed the bundled cloak, paints, and mask from his pack and placed his navy blue cloak into his pack and clasped the grey cloak in place over his shoulder, he then hastily applied rings of black paint around his eyes, giving it a moment to dry a bit before tying the mask into place and pulling the hood up over his head and packing the paints away and slipping the pack back into place under his cloak and making his way to the address on Monroe, keeping to the back allies and avoiding the streetlamps when he could to avoid unwanted attention while making his way to the eastern wall, but staying alert, just in case trouble found him. His sword was strapped in the usual place, the morningstar now hung from his hip, and the daggers he kept hidden in his boots were in place should they be needed.
Satisfied that there were no more questions and everyone seemed to accept his answers le'Rouge nodded to Nam before taking his leave, "Best of luck friends!" he said before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.
The Varg, Nam, was not one for flowery speeches, or speeches at all, he was a man of few words and preferred to let actions speak for him, but the job at hand had to be explained, so he's have to do a little talking this time. Not bothering to sit he started with the briefing, "Those of you who came from the west may have noticed a small forest wedged between the mountains and Stone Bridge. It would seem the loggers working in these woods have disturbed some of the more aggressive denizens of that forest and need our assistance to drive back the beasts so work can continue." Realizing the fresh faces gathered around the table may want a bit more information he continued, "The beasts in questions are a group of giant bees that had a nest within the trees, normally the loggers pay close attention for these sorts of things, preferring not to aggitate the creatures, but it seems a newer lumberjack was not paying attention and brought down the tree the hive was in. Take a moment to prepare yourselves in whatever way you may need to, and then proceed to the West Gate out of town, I will be waiting there."
With that he made his way around the table passing out the previously mentioned armbands before heading out the double doors you all were lead in through without even waiting to see if there were any questions.
Subject: Late to the party
As it turned out, young Arshavir had been away from home for several days in an attempt to further his own studies of swordplay and magic. Upon returning home he found the letter from one "Lord Brown", a name he was not familiar with, and found that the letter proposed a meeting this very day, not more than half an hour from the current time. Normally this tavern would take at least 45 minutes to reach from his home, so he's have to hurry if he meant to be on time, or at the very least only a few minutes late. As luck would have it though, the young man had lived in AltonDale his entire life and knew the shortcuts and back alleys really well and would be able to shave a bit of time off the trek using the lesser travelled routes.
Haphazardlessly stuffing the letter into his pack he made sure he had his various pouches in their usual places across his belt, slipped the smaller weapons into his pack for ease of transport and darted out the door just as quickly as he had returned to make his way to the Luck of Shinara as quickly as he could. As it were the trek took him only 29.5 minutes, running close to full speed for much of the trek, and weaving in and out of alleyways and through crowded streets, if he weren't so out of breath he would have patted himself on the back for making it there so quickly, and without knocking over any little old ladies this time as well.
Huffing and puffing he made his way into the tavern, scanning the room quickly he managed to spot a table that seemed less like sailors on shore leave, and more like a group of locals awaiting a meeting like himself. Thinking to himself as he made his way over he wondered what sort of person this "Lord Brown" may be, why he would be contacting people like this, how he decided who was trustworthy enough to contact.
Leaning against the table and breathing heavily the young Duskblade managed an introduction, "My...name is... Arshavir..Harcourt..." Pausing a moment to wipe some of the sweat from his brow he continued, "I hope...I... have not... missed the... meeting... I ran.. all.. the.. way... here.." With that he pulled up an empty chair from a neighbouring table and went about catching his breath.
Class Features
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Duskblades are proficient with all simple and martial weapons, as well as all armors and shields (except tower shields).
Spells: A duskblade casts arcane spells, which are drawn from the duskblade spell list on page 24. Duskblade spells unique to this book appear on a spell list Page 98.
To learn or cast a spell, you must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level (Int 10 for 0-level spells, Int 11 for 1st-level spells, and so forth). The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against your spell is 10 + the spell level + your Int modifier.
You can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Your base daily spell allotment is given on Table 1—3. In addition, you receive bonus spells per day if you have a high Intelligence score (see Table 1—1: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Spells, page 8 of the Player's Handbook).
A duskblade's caster level is equivalent to his class level.
Spells Known: You begin play knowing two 0-level spells and two 1st-level spells, chosen from the duskblade spell list. You also know one additional 0-level spell for each point of Intelligence bonus.
Each time you gain a new class level, you learn one additional spell of any level you can cast, chosen from the duskblade spell list.
Upon reaching 5th level, and at every subsequent odd-numbered level, you can choose to learn a new spell in place of one you already know. In effect, you lose access to the old spell in exchange for gaining the new one. The new spell's level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged, and it must be at least two levels lower than the highest-level spell you can cast. For instance, upon reaching 9th level, you could trade in a single 1st-level spell (two levels below the highest-level spell you can cast, which is 3rd) for a different 1st-level spell. You can swap only a single spell at any given level and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that you gain new spells known for the level.
You need not prepare spells in advance. You can cast any spell you know at any time, assuming you have not yet used up your spells per day for that spell level.
Arcane Attunement (Sp): You can use the spell-like powers dancing lights, detect magic, flare, ghost sound, and read magic a combined total of times per day equal to 3 + your Int modifier. These spell-like powers do not count against your total of spells known or spells per day.
Armored Mage (Ex): Normally, armor of any type interferes with an arcane spellcaster's gestures, which can cause spells to fail if those spells have a somatic component. A duskblade's limited focus and specialized training, however, allows you to avoid arcane spell failure so long as you stick to light armor and light shields. This training does not extend to medium or heavy armors, nor to heavy shields. This ability does not apply to spells gained from a different spellcasting class.
At 4th level, you learn to use medium armor with no chance of arcane spell failure.
At 7th level, you learn to use a heavy shield with no chance of arcane spell failure.
Combat Casting: At 2nd level, you gain Combat Casting as a bonus feat.
Arcane Channeling (Su): Beginning at 3rd level, you can use a standard action to cast any touch spell you know and deliver the spell through your weapon with a melee attack. Casting a spell in this manner does not provoke attacks of opportunity. The spell must have a casting time of 1 standard action or less. If the melee attack is successful, the attack deals damage normally; then the effect of the spell is resolved.
At 13th level, you can cast any touch spell you know as part of a full attack action, and the spell affects each target you hit in melee combat that round. Doing so discharges the spell at the end of the round, in the case of a touch spell that would otherwise last longer than 1 round.
Without missing a beat the man in the big chair replied with another warm smile, "Perhaps my answer was a little on the theatric side, allow me to elaborate. When I say we have personal freedom I mean we are not going to be at the end of some leash, expected to heel like a good dog of war at "the master's" command. This in turn allows us to take jobs a "war-dog" would not be able to take due to being on a short leash, whether it be clearing out dangerous monsters threatening a farmer's livlihood, delving into ancient ruins to seek out the forgotten relics of the past, or simply taking a month to relax, do some research, enjoy a good meal, or anything else."
His voice took on a somewhat more serious tone as he addressed this other part of young Gelion's question, "We Falcons may be a great many things, but we are not thugs, thieves, or assassins. I will not send you, or any other Falcon for that matter, to threaten, rob, or kill an innocent, and if in the future you are asked by a contact to do any of these abhorrent things I would expect you to refuse the job on merit and let us know at once so ties with the client can be severed. I want to clarify though, that you may be called upon from time to time to deliver a bit of "violent justice" as we have taken on work in the past to handle highwaymen, bandits, and other unsavory types, I am not so altruistic as to believe all problems can be solved without resorting to violence after all."
Echario let a knowing smile slip across his face, "You four do not disappoint, it is nice to get recruits with deep, thought-invoking questions such as these." He let out a quick chuckle before answering the questions posed by the curious recruits, "We will take nearly any contract, what truly sets us apart from other free companies is that we are not at the beck and call of any one single nation, this allows us more freedom to accept jobs another company may not be able to take as well as allows more freedom to pursue personal agendas as well. I admit, you are correct in your thinking, it is not feasible to avoid all political play, but by getting more of our work from the private sector and the common man, we are able to assist our fellow man, as well as earn a living. As to the subject of remunerations, the pay is dependent on the job, but you are free to keep any items you may pick up during the course of a job and put them to use, or sell them as you see fit. You may also trade unwanted gear and supplies in to the company quarter-master for credits you can use to purchase various supplies at a discounted rate. These supplies range from standard fare such as potions of varying potency up to weapons and armor custom crafted by the smiths here. Knowing that everyone requires gear of a different quality we do not impose any sort of standard-issue uniform, you will be provided with an armband to wear across your bicep marking you as a member of the Falcons."
The hume turned his gaze purposely toward Simon, smiling wider than before, "You have the most interesting of questions, one I dare say we do not hear often enough during these sessions. The purpose of this band of like-minded souls is a simple one however, to promote personal freedom in our members and their lives as well as to provide support when needed, and to give our members the means to make some spending money when needed. After your initial mission, which Nam will brief you on later, you will not be required to report for mandatory missions, you will not have to report to any sort of commanding officer, and you will not be forced to anything you do not want to do. The only requirement moving forward from your first mission is that you watch out for each other, that you never leave a fellow Falcon in a tight spot, and that you represent our flock well."
He pauses, glances around the room and adds, "I do hope this has addressed any questions sufficiently, I will of course answer any further questions before turning you over to Nam for your job."
After your short and somewhat awkward introductions the four of you continue to wait and enjoy the refreshments you have chosen from the pantry for this impromptu meet and greet. After an unknown length of time, as there are no windows or time pieces in this room, the double doors you were lead in through swing open once again and the Elvaan maiden who guided you four into this conference room steps in with another new recruit, this one a Ronso, who despite her stature walks with a practiced grace and seems as though she would be more at home in the shadows. Once again the guide prompts the newest addition to the room to take a seat and wait, and suggests she help herself to the pantry just as she did the 4 men now gathered around the table.
((Fey feel free to post a small intro as well when you get a moment, but I'm going to go ahead and move forward with this as everyone has been waiting so patiently.))
Finally, after what may have only been minutes, or may well have been hours, the door at the eastern end of the conference swings open and sauntering through the door comes a hume standing just over six feet tall, his figure muscled without being what some may consider buff. Long jet-black hair is pulled back into a loose ponytail and his face is adorned by a well trimmed short beard. The muffled jingle-jangle of chain can be heard beneath his finely tailored black silk shirt over which he wears an expensive-looking crimson vest and hooded cloak, on his left hip hangs a finely crafted and enchanted rapier, and from his right hip there hangs an ornate rod, which is easily recognizable as a Power Rod to any familiar with the weapons. Sapphire-blue eyes scan the room, taking measure of each of you before he speaks, his voice smooth and full of confidence and pride, "Welcome friends, to our illustrious nest, our home away from home, our safe-haven from the treacherous, wild world of political turmoil. As you five may well have guessed by now, I am the head of this ever-growing flock, the famous, or infamous depending on who you ask, Echario le'Rouge. Years of adventure, of life following the rules of others, of being a pawn in the great political game has taught me that the only way to be free of these games is to remove yourself from the board all together, which is exactly why I founded this organization; it is my hope that our very existence will inspire others, be they pawn or player in these games, to move away from the endless strife and find a better way!" He scans over the small gathering once again, clearly making quick mental notes based on initial impressions before continuing, "We are a diverse lot, we all have our own goals, dreams, and reasons for being here, and rest assured that you will be affronted plenty of time to pursue your own goals as well as helping to further the goals and reputation of the Falcons which you have chosen to join with this day. As you may have gathered, you five will be working together, but you will not be expected to do things alone." He reached back and raps on the solid door behind him 3 times and a lupine figure steps through the threshold and into the room, no visible weapons or armor adorn his muscled figure, his fur showing bits of gray giving away the fact that he is no fresh adventurer like yourselves. "Nam here may not be much for conversation, but he will shadow you on your first few jobs just to make sure everything goes well and to take stock of your teamwork and synergy. His presence does not excuse reckless or careless behavior though, he will only step in if it becomes clear that the job was too much for your team to handle, and only to prevent loss of life. It's bad for business and our reputation if new recruits get themselves killed on their first jobs, you see..." The Varg, Nam he was called, glances around the room himself and gives a silent nod of agreement to the statements that have just been issued by the Company's leader. Adjusting his silver glasses le'Rouge once again speaks, "Now I'm sure you all have questions before moving on to your first job, so we will now open the floor to you for some quick questions to satisfy your curiosity."
I was kinda waiting to see if Chess was gonna reply to you. Get a little more interaction going. I'm aiming (once we get started fully) for at least once a week, if not more.
