But even a Drow can be convinced to capture a target alive. After all, Drow are well known for their slave trade and use of sleep poisons to immobilize a target with minimal harm.

Subject: Rule Tweaks

I had mentioned during recruitment that I had some rule tweaks in mind for the way certain things were going to run. So, allow me to explain.

Taking a few tips from the Pathfinder rule set I have decided to make 0 level spells castable an unlimited amount of times per day. This I feel brings standard Sorcerers up to par with the Warlock who can use his Blast a limitless amount of times. This does not mean that those of you who are clerics can just spontaneously cast any orison you want whenever you want though, the spells still must be prepared as normal, but they are not one-shot preparations as they are in 3.5. Your Domain spells however can be spontaneously cast at any time, the way I reason that is that your Domain spells are gifts granted to you by your extreme faith, gifts you should have unlimited access to. I know, this allows for pretty much limitless healing with the use of that dinky 1 point healing spell, but this is meant to be a high power campaign and I will likely throw some challenges at you that you might not normally face as a standard 3rd level character.

I feel no tweaks are really needed for the melee classes or the warlock itself as they have nearly limitless use of their abilities anyways. If I decide that the casters are outclassing the other characters I will consider either reverting to standard 3.5 rules regarding spells, or give the melee types some sort of boost to bring them up to par.

The great thing about running a game like this, centered around more of an organization than a group of characters is that when you know what kinda players you have you can cater the missions to their particular style of play or abilities. If we had ended up with more characters that leaned toward good and lawfulness then I could've tweaked to make the missions something more acceptable to the group, like bringing the criminals in alive to serve justice rather than killing them off.

Game is up, sorry if its not the greatest opener, I was kinda tired when I started it, and still feeling pretty sleep deprived even now. However I set myself a personal goal to get it up and started by today and that is what I intended to do. With the ride being a days time it gives the lot of you a chance to interact and do some roleplaying until I can work up the next update. I'm honestly not sure yet on the pace, I haven't really set myself a goal on that one just yet, but I am thinking once a week unless no one has posted in a while..

Subject: Orion Group: Inner Turmoils

As is standard guild practice your group has enjoyed 3 days off from finishing a job successfully. As is typical, the Hobgoblin and Tiefling spent much of the down time intoxicated though not necessarily at the same tavern, the pair of Drow spent their time further perfecting their teamwork and combat tactics among other things, D'artanian spent at least one night gambling away all extra cash then spent the rest of his time either conducting personal research or sparring with other guild members looking to improve his sword skills, and Khetarin did whatever it was he did with his free time, no one was too sure of what that was though as he was always so secretive. ((If you wish to declare that you spent these three days doing something else, then feel free to post as such, be it crafting, research, shopping, or whatever, and I can PM you individually regarding personal results.))

At the end of the third day you each return to your respective rooms, at whatever time you drag yourself in, to find a note has been slid under the door into your room. The note, quite familiar by now, is of course another set of orders from Leo and it reads simply, "Front Courtyard, Noon, Tomorrow. Do Not Be Late." You know better by now not to be late, you've witnessed more than one initiate disregard the warning just to be cut down on the spot by Leo's massive falchion. The next morning you all go through your usual preparations, getting ready for yet another mission out in the wide world.

You all gather out at the designated area, well before noon, and wait patiently for Leo to arrive, knowing he likes coming in to find a group ready for orders, even if a little hung over. When he arrives he looks over each of you, doing his usual pointless inspections before delivering the orders. And once again he stops on the Tiefling and scowls, "Mr. Zisal, how many times must I tell you to take some of your pay and buy some new clothes. You represent this great guild and all it stands for every time you leave these grounds and you are sending the message that we accept any bum off the streets and just send them out to spread their filth and lice among the masses." You've all heard this speech every mission since the Tiefling joined, and yet nothing seems to change, no matter how many times Leo warns, "You better have some presentable clothes before the start of your next mission!"

Leo shook his head, and continued on, "The rest of you look presentable enough I suppose, so let's get down to business. We've gotten word from the mayor of a small town east of here, known as Oakcrest, that thieves are running rampant, striking at rich and poor alike from the neighboring forests. As of yet the local authorities have yet to be able to apprehend a single one of these thieves and believe that they may be using some sort of magic to assist in their raids. This is where we come in, you are to rendezvous with the local sheriff, one Ragnar Green, gather what information you can, and assist in stopping these attacks by any means necessary." You know by now of course that when Leo says "any means necessary" he means "kill them all". After a brief pause to insure that you all seem to understand he continues, "We've arranged transportation for you, both ways, and you leave immediately. The wagon is waiting outside the main gate now, the ride is roughly a day's time. I trust you will all make me proud yet again." With that he turns and heads back into the main keep, leaving you in the courtyard with your newest mission ahead of you.

"I agree, but need I remind you we are under contract to retrieve this cargo, we forfeit any claim to a successful job if we do "fail to control" the situation." Of course he knew the dwarf's meaning, he also knew what that meant for their standings within the guild too. Where does one draw the line between guild loyalty and what is right and wrong?

Your particular group has been working together as a team for most of your career within the guild. You've seen a couple changes here and there what with dismissals and deaths over the year or so that you've been here, but for the most part you've all worked with each other at least 6 months if not longer.

Echo shrugged, "Not necessarily human trafficking, perhaps simply a delivery for a wizard's menagerie. Now that you mention it though, the cargo may very well be slaves. Tell me Dwarf, how would you feel if the cargo we've been sent after is in fact slaves?"

Echo listened as the halfling suggested they force their way in, he had honestly been thinking much the same thing. If the man they were to assume was the manager had not seemed too worried about the scream earlier it may be safe to assume he would pay little heed to another. But something occurred to him, and he spoke up regarding the matter, "What if this "Unagreeable merchandise" is the cargo we've been sent to retrieve?"

Yes, your character is intimately familiar with the surrounding region, especially shops and whatnot they would frequent. This is one of the rare cases of Character Knowledge being more than Player Knowledge because I honestly have not put too terribly much detail into the city itself.

Guild duties are simply, do your jobs, keep your dorm area clean, and pick up after yourself after using any of the facilities.

Bulletin boards are more or less nonexistent within the guild itself. I suppose if you were looking for odd jobs around town during your off time the local taverns would have job postings. I'd probably handle those like profession rolls rather than have them played out.

Your dues are automatically taken out of the pay the guild receives for completed contracts before you get your cut, think of it as the games version of income tax.

You have no particularly good or bad reputation as such, though you all do typically draw wary glances from the more "normal" residents of the city who have a hard time trusting a pair of Drow, a Hobgoblin, and an obviously "tainted" dirty bum. Any drunken brawls in your past will have earned you a reputation, and any bars you frequent seem to have hired extra security to have on hand should anything get out of hand. None of the barkeeps will turn you away yet though, you spend far too much money there and they can't afford to alienate the entire guild by refusing service to a member.

Your rooms come standard with a simple bed and locking trunk, assume that over the past year or so you have acquired other odds and ends to decorate the room with. Nothing extremely valuable or magical but just decoration of your personal taste. I imagine the drunks would have shelves of empty bottles of all the fancy expensive booze they've drunk but that is up to you as the resident.

When the door opened slowly and the voice called out Gronz's first thought was to reply as quickly as possible so as to hopefully get rid of the interloper that much faster. He was at least slightly thankful that the one who had just been released quickly slipped back into the cell just in case at least. In a gruff, tough sounding voice, he called back, "How much trouble could they be, just four little unarmed prisoners, two of which are women. I'm pretty certain I can handle it just fine." In a rush of quick thought he snatched back his tools and slid them across the floor into the still open cell so they'd be out of sight should the other guard continue into the room.

Echo simply shrugged, he wasn't used to doing so much talking and he wasn't really in the mood to continue talking now. This entire fiasco had turned itself upside down and inside out and he was getting rather annoyed and impatient. This job should have been easy enough, and yet here they were no closer to their goal than they had been from the start.

Subject: bar

There isn't actually a bar in the Citadel itself, I imagine that drunkard characters would have stashes in their rooms though and probably always have flasks on them somewhere for meal times. The city the citadel is in has several inns and taverns that could cater to your taste. This game I am kinda bringing down the mysticism of the Orion Group, making it a more standard guild than what it would have been in the first game. Thus The Citadel is more like a Keep/Fortress in the Guild District of a city than an extra-dimensional city unto itself. That is not to say the Group is without its secrets and hidden rooms, and whatever else.

Echo, not wanting to further agitate the man turned on his heels rather whimsically and turned to leave, slipping between his companions and exitting to the street where they had been previously. This would require a new strategy. They knew a few new facts though, the goods were moving tomorrow, and the man seemed to pay little attention to screams in the warehouse. What they could do with this new information was the question.

((This may be slightly out of order since the screams occurred before my last post, so I'm sorry for the back post.))

Echo, always thinking of new angles, spoke again, "Out of curiosity, should my associates decide to make use of your facilities for storage of ores and extra tools, what would be the latest time we would be allowed or able to deliver goods to the warehouse? Is there always someone on hand for intake, or would we have to make special arrangements to deliver late as to avoid the harbor traffic?" When the screams rang out from the main warehouse Echo raised a brow curiously, then asked, "Did one of your employees just have an accident? Shouldn't you check to see that no one is hurt?" Echo, of course, could care less, but the question might at least prompt the man to open the door into the main area, perhaps even turning his back long enough for Echo to pull a trick or two out of his proverbial sleeve.

(Again, assuming Airion spoke up when asked if anyone was good with locks.)

Gronz handed his leather roll of thieves' tools over to the male in the cell he had just unlocked, and offered only a short statement as reasoning, "My training with locks is limited, you'd probably have better luck." With a glare he added, "Just don't break my picks and get them back to me as soon as you get that door open." Again he made no attempts to introduce himself or even to inquire to the identity of the captives he had been sent to free. He had a job to do and he rarely asked questions when money talked.

((the tools are masterwork, just in case that truly matters to you at all. And for those of you who don't know, he is a half-orc, so if you have anything against half-orc (in character of course) it would probably be wise to hold off on judgment until the prison break is at least further underway.))

Subject: Now that you say that...

I once played in a group where a bard/warlock (non-gestalt) passed his eldritch blast off as a bardic ability by singing at least one note every time he used it. That said, since his deity doesn't grant access to the Spell Domain, nor would he have any reason to be familiar with its granted powers, I think its safe to say that he wouldn't know. However, since his deity is a goddess of dreams and whatnot she may or may not clue him in at some point, but its unlikely. Besides, Drow are typically all about keeping secrets, unless revealing said secret proves to be beneficial to them in some way. Keep in mind though, these are the comrades you have worked with for just under a years time, you all know each other (to the degree that you let yourself be known anyway) and typically would not attempt to sell out one of your own unless you felt it was EXTREMELY worth your while.

Which reminds me, does Zau worship a specific deity, or is he one of those clerics devoted to a cause as opposed to a deity. Either way, which cause and/or deity?

I'm actually eager to see how Khetarin and Zauathin interact. Khet clearly is not open about his warlock-ness, yet as a fellow warlock Zau would easily be able to recognize the abilities and recognize Khet as what he is, that and the shared fiendish heritage should make for some interesting interactions..
