Subject: Nick

As the moist terrain gave way to harder, rocky ground Nick could not help but notice, likely from his time living in the mountains, that this was not natural stone under their feet. Upon this realization he whispered to his companions, letting them know he believed they were coming up on a ruin site. As the wall rose up through the forest it only served to confirm his suspicions.

The thick smell of burning wood filled his nostrils, sending a shiver through his spine as his nostrils flared at the invasive odor. He had never quite gotten over the death of his family in that fire so many years ago, and even now with only the smell of a fire his mind began to go back to that day. Shaking his head violently he cleared the memories from his mind, he would be no use to his companions if he let his fear overcome him at this point.

Instead he set his attention to scanning the area, trying to see if he could spot the wisps of smoke rising from the fire that was clearly nearby. While visually scanning the area he went over the stories he kept filed mentally, trying to recall if he had heard anything about ruins in the region, perhaps who had built them, or why. Then the thought occurred to him, ancient ruins may contain ancient wisdom, there may be knowledge to gain here yet!

In one of his rare moments of insight the half-orc stops eating for a moment and adds his two cents to the ongoing discussion. "Did anyone else happen to notice that he also made it clear we have no idea the intentions of this foe that no one knows?" Changing his voice, mockingly he quoted their host, "There is equal possibility that it will be a force for good and law as for destruction and chaos." Shaking his head he took another bite of the meats set before him and continued again, "So which are we to be? Chaos or Law, Good or Evil? I dunno about the rest of ya, but I prefer to stay out of such affairs of morality... morals tend to slow ya down in my world..."

Taking a drink from his glass he adds further, "But, I am curious as to what potential he sees in this mismatched group and what power he thinks he knows we'll gain through this. I think I'll stick with it, even if only just to make some coin before going back to my normal work."

It was always at moments like these that Echo wished he had more power at his disposal than he did at this point in his personal growth. Were he just a little more powerful, with just a few more spells at his disposal he may have been of more use in this mission. Now instead of dealing with the guards they had to try to sneak around the building and avoid detection, all while more and more of the slaves wandered away. In the back of his mind he couldn't help but remember that the last time they had tried stealthily moving this mob they had been detected and attacked. Whispering to no one in particular, but still only loud enough for the nearest guild mate to hear, he protests, "I'd just like it known that I am not too keen on this plan..." All protesting aside though he took up his post in the dwindling group and did his best to corral the scared slaves to the back door.

I once tried to run a game where the controlling Deities were Fate and Destiny. Each PC had a "destiny" they had to stick to or suffer penalties for going against the will of the cosmos. This was accomplished by me rolling on a table of 100 Random PrCs, the character had to take a level in that PrC by level 10 if possible, this of course forced players into general roles they may not have normally chosen themselves.

I too was seeking a game in which to play a character I had come up with. I posted a thread of my own but never got any hits on it. So if anyone is going to start up another 3.x or even Pathfinder game I have a character concept ready to go.

The half-elf eased over to the closest guild mate he could find and whispered as discretely as possible, "What are we waiting for? Weren't our orders to escort these people to the warehouse here? I know the armed guards may be cause for concern, but if this is what we were assigned to do, then is it not best to do as ordered? The guards here do not bear the same emblem as the ones that attacked us earlier, and the warehouse does bear the brand we were told to seek out."

The half-orc was not at all happy about the continued run around and lack of answers that they had received thus far. When he took his seat he did so quietly and only casually bothered to look up as other entered the room. All puppets, that's all we are here.. This Master thinks he can just pull the strings and watch us dance.

Though he would never admit it, and made it a point not to be seen looking at her, his interest was piqued when an unfamiliar female entered the dining hall. It was not her appearance that caught his interest though, it was her attitude, she seemed just as mad about being here in these circumstances as he was himself.

When the "Master" finally made his appearance the only thing the orc-kin could think was that he didn't look nearly as impressive or mighty as he had been built up to be by his servants and flashy displays of wealth. He did not have to be told twice however to enjoy the meal, and much like the meal the night before, his lack of manners showed quite clearly as he helped himself to large portions of various meats, some warm pastries, and a large drink of the fresh juices that had been offered up.

He only halfheartedly listened as the Master, and his companions, spoke around the table. It mattered not why they were here, just that they got this puppet show over with so he could get back to his normal life. The only introduction he made the slightest attempt to listen in on was the introduction of the angry woman that had been addressed as Raina earlier.

Nick was all too willing to agree with the knight and the scout, after all who was he to argue? "It does seem as if these so-called bandits knew exactly how to handle us, and were more than prepared with that ambush. We would be wise to take it at a slower pace so as to avoid sounding any more alarms or finding any traps the hard way."

When the Raslan pulled out the vial Nick's inquisitive nature took over, and he volunteered to take a look at it, perhaps he would recognize the contents from a story somewhere, or even from within the secluded walls of his order's temple.

At this point Echo is at a complete loss for words, he is all for continuing and completing the mission, but still can't help but feel sorry for the mob of slaves they've escorted...

At this point, for the sake of ease, assume he'll go along with whatever the team decides. I'll try to get posts in when I find more time to do so otherwise.

Has anyone heard from or seen Dreen get on lately? Once I get a little more stable I'll update, NPCing him for the time being if he hasn't shown up, and from there we'll see what happens. As it stands for the time being though I am away from home (against my will no less) and both my children are sick. So needless to say I'm not in any condition to update at this time, but I will try to get something going so we can hopefully continue into the storyline.

Subject: Setting Questions

I know we've previously established location and year, but I had some questions regarding the setting.

Firstly, how does the USA view the nation of Fantastico? By this I mean, do they hold a grudge and deep contempt like Britain originally did when the colonies revolted? Have any attempts been made, especially with Fantastico V in charge, to reclaim the island as US soil?

Technologically, how advanced has the world become? You said we're not robots, but you did not completely dismiss that there may be robots. What about things like bionic enhancements, or nano-implants to augment human performance capabilities? Has time travel been explored or discovered, what about teleporters and the like? Flying cars yet? Or just barely a step above what we have now?

How do the masses view Fantastico V at this point in time, do they blame their problems on him and his incompetence, are there "rebels" who seek to remove him from power thinking they could do a better job, or even who just search for Mr. F IV?

I'd look to make my interest in this game known, though at this point in time my reliability is at best a tentative "maybe I can post weekly". With newborn in the house, working full time, and hormonal spouse, things are a bit hectic to say the least...

But seriously, put me down as a serious maybe!

Steel, how exactly does Rath go about signaling his companion? I assume some sort of auditory signal since he had no idea where Rath was, just how obvious or discrete a signal?

Dreen, where is Nef exactly? Did he enter the workshop, had he exited, was he actively looking for Rath?

The carpenter gave the warlock the strangest look, perplexed by the very question he had asked, "Of course my tools were not enchanted, we have nothing like that in this town, and even if such services were available to us I could not afford to have a Mage enchant my tools. This is the second time my tools have been taken, as you may have gathered from earlier, and I would appreciate if they were returned to me for good this time. You have to put a stop to these thefts!" The carpenter seems to have no useful information to give, or perhaps he is just overly upset over the loss of his tools, but no new leads are to be found here.

Meanwhile, from his perch atop the buildings that make up this small community, the Dark Elf, Rath'sharr, notices something odd at the outskirts of the village. Just at the border of the forest he swears he saw several branches move as if pushed aside, but sees no figure who could have moved the branches. However he is fairly certain that someone, or something, just left the village and headed into the forest.

While some may consider it odd for one such as Gronz to desire a hot bath the fact of the matter remained that the half-orc wanted nothing more than to get into his room, get out of his armor, and soak his sore muscles in a steaming tub of water. He ignored the varied soaps and oils present, not worried about smells or anything like that, just wanted to relieve the tension from the prison break, escaping the city, and the hike here. As he soaked in the water, lost in a thick fog of steam he let his guard down and relaxed, closing his eyes and taking deep meditative breaths. Before long he became so relaxed and comfortable that he found himself asleep in the bath.

A couple hours later he awoke to find that the steam had long since dissipated and the warmth has left his water, leaving him soaked and shivering in cold water. Climbing out he grunted and grumbled to himself about how annoying the situation was as he found the towel and dried off. Pulling the pants from his traveling clothes out of his pack he pulled them on and exited the room, intent on finding something to snack on before bed. (After/If he gets his late night snack he will go back to sleep in the bed as expected of him. If no snack can be found then he will still go to bed, though in a foul mood)

The following morning greeted the brutish orc-kin with a knock at the door and an announcement that he was expected to be prepared for breakfast shortly. Groggily he trudged out of bed, got the clothes they expected him to wear on and wandered out into the foyer to be lead to the dining hall where they were finally to meet this so-called Master over yet another fresh hot meal.

The tension was thick as they hurried through the streets toward their destination. The longer than walked the more impatient and irritated the mob of slaves became. He occupied his mind trying to think of something to say, or do, or even just take his mind off of what would happen if they were set upon again by either the warehouse guards, or even the city guards for that matter. The cry of one of the children snapped the half-elf out of his thoughtful trance, and reality again set in. It seemed he wasn't the only one trying to escape this reality, and plastering on another of his best fake smiles and turning on his "happy voice" the sorcerer, speaking to no one in particular, said, "Not much further now, let's push on and hope for the best!"

(I honestly don't know where to go with this at all, Echo doesn't like the mission anymore than the Dwarves, but at the same time he doesn't see failure as an option. He dreads the reactions the group is sure to get from this mob when they catch on, but dreads the consequences of failure just as much if not more.)

Subject: Nick

Realizing that he had no bandages to use, Nick set out in search of suitable flora with which to bind their many wounds. Scouring the surrounding plant life he came across some Kosa ferns that looked as though they would provide suitable cover without any unwanted irritation to the wounds. Pulling the Tikkla bricks from his pack he tried to recall exactly how to use them, but failed to recall ever having heard how they were best used. Improvising he decided to chew the foul smelling mass into a pulp and create a poultice for each wound he was treating. As if the constant grimacing and choked expressions did not give away the horrible taste he commented as he finished up the last of the bandaging, "Be thankful we did not have to eat this horrible stuff, if the smell wasn't bad enough it tastes even worse!" The aftertaste that lingered in his mouth made him shudder slightly, and so he took a long swig from his waterskin before wrapping the remaining Tikklas back in the wrapping and getting his pack re-situated. Just for good measure he asked, "Does anyone else feel they are in need of further aid, or will this do for the time being?"

Waiting briefly for replies, and providing aid if requested, Nick then takes a look at the recently plundered items gathered from their fallen adversaries. The strange cloth with its 6 pointed star caught his eye, something about it intrigued him more than it probably should have. Picking it up and examining it further he then made a point of asking, "Anyone mind if I hold onto this, it is bound to mean something, and I would like to try to find out what..." Picking up the bandana and a dagger he also made certain to ask if anyone objected to him claiming those as well, thinking that should the need arise again the bandana may make for a possible improvised bandage or two. (Assuming no one objects he will place the items in his pack and get it properly situated)

Pausing for a moment to think he decided that perhaps finding and holding onto a few more Kosa leaves might be a good idea. The first few had made for acceptable bandages, and having a couple more in with the Tikklas may come in handy until he could get some proper bandages, salves, and ointments for treating wounds. He turned to his still present companions, "I'm going to gather a few more of these leaves, just to be prepared should we require more bandages. I shouldn't be too long, but if you'd rather we stick together then you could come along, a couple more sets of eyes may prove useful in finding what we seek. (First place he'll look will be in the general area he found the first ferns, if nothing is found then he will move to another location, but he will stay close to clearing, so as to be easily located should the Raslan return with news from scouting ahead.)

Echo is chaotic neutral so his alignment really doesn't play any major part in his thought processes. However, he also realizes the value of being involved with a group like the Blue Hand. Failure in a task jeopardizes their position in the guild, thus in his mind failure is not an option. He is not without sympathy for their plight, but he is more self absorbed and removed from the situation due to his own goals and aspirations.

Also, don't I recall the orders saying the "property" was stolen from our client. For all we know their "owner" is a benevolent master who takes great care of the slaves and their needs, and the horrible treatment may have only started once they were stolen.

If you want to get into it deep enough, in the D20 tabletop version of WoW put out by White Wolf there are no race/class restrictions. Thus, in a tabletop game you could get harassed by a damned Kal'dorei Paladin.
