Echario thought about the mission and the proposed plan for a moment, then a thought popped into his mind, "As much as I love a good prank, is it truly wise to be using a trick like this on someone who knows us from the delivery, and who knows that the Blue Hand is purchasing these slaves? I may just be paranoid, but that seems to me like it's just asking for some sort of retaliation when he realized he's been cheated..."

Subject: Gronz, ready to rumble

With the cleric no longer dangling over the cliff-side Gronz pushed himself up off the ground and took a quick moment to pull the rope up onto the plateau before letting it go, he'd have to pick it up later. [assuming that these actions haven't taken up the entire round, if they have then these next actions will have to wait for the next round.

Casually dusting off his armor the half-orc pulled his short bow from its place and readied to take a shot at the hesitant wyvern. If it wouldn't come to them then he's have to bring the fight to it.

Despite the obvious fact that they were in need of a severe washing Nick could not help but be in awe at the dusty old finery that hung in the wardrobe before him. Flitting through the various hanging articles of clothing the cleric found a pair of pants and fine shirt that seemed to be in acceptable condition and tucked these items into his pack, one never knew when fine clothes may come in handy. His bright blue eyes went even wider as they halfling pulled free the elegant, and much cleaner, gloves that had apparently been hidden away. Kneeling down to get a much closer look he admired the craftsmanship and the beautiful color, desiring to try them on, but opting to wait until such as time as he could wash his hands first. A thought crossed his mind, and suddenly he wished he had the knowledge to check this hypothesis, but settled for voicing it aloud to the rogue, "If these were hidden, then perhaps they may have some form of enchantment upon them, and if they do, then The Great Librarian could help me determine just what it was they were used for." (Identify is domain spell)

A gruff yell pulled him from his admiration of the gloves, as the other two party members spoke up on their need for him to shine his light elsewhere while they looked around the rest of the room.

Subject: Nick

From his place behind Tobias Nick trudged forward, his glowing silver medallion lighting the way for them all to see. As their steps echoed in the subterranean corridors the cleric could not help but think back on the time he had spent in the temple deep in the mountains back home. The stone floors there had echoed much like these did, and you could always tell when someone was coming or going in places like these, which worked against them at this particular moment. "We need to keep a sharp ear open for echoes coming toward us, from either direction, if our footsteps echo then so will anyone else's, that said we also won't have the element of surprise if we had it before, because any guards are likely to hear us coming."

When they came to a stop at the thick door Nick held his glowing symbol in such a manner as to allow his companions to get a good look at the door, whether it was to be the Gano ripping this one from its hinges as he had the trapdoor, or the rogue with his picks. Much to his surprise it was neither, instead Tobias produced a set of keys and was able to disengage the lock with much ease. The cleric took a step back as his companion pulled hard on the door, its weight apparently stuck in the frame and as difficult to open as it appeared to be. With the door finally open he followed Tobias into the room, his light guiding the others following behind them as well.

A quick scan of the room quickly revealed what it was, a storeroom, just like the ones they had back in the mountain temple. Crates, sacks, and barrels lined the walls, likely holding grains or clean water, though the contents were a mystery he wasn't too worried about at this point. Two things in this room caught his eye, the stack of what appeared to be personal property, likely belonging to the hostages they were seeking to rescue, and the old wardrobe against the wall to his right. His mind burned with curiosity, every ounce of his being wished to know what secrets the old wardrobe held, but he stopped himself from opening it, well aware that these mercenary types may well have it trapped as well. Turning toward his smaller companion he speaks, in a low voice just in case anyone is on the other side of either of the other doors in this room, "Koriss, my friend, do you think perhaps you could check this wardrobe for traps, something tells me there may be something of interest in here, but I don't want to take any reckless actions that will make matters more difficult for us."

((I know we haven't gotten a post from DB yet, but he can backpost in easily enough))

As you enter the condemned building you find yourself in an open foyer like area, approximately twenty feet wide by 35 feet. The sounds of movement can be heard throughout the room, though it is hard to pinpoint through all the splashing due to the puddles collected on the floor and the water still dripping in from the holes in the ceiling. At first glance all you can see is scattered piles of refuse, mostly trash and other useless junk. A few broken chairs and three legged table sit in the corner just to your left in a haphazard pile of mangled wood. About 15 feet in on the right hand side is a stack of about 5 crates, the amount of damage they have sustained is impossible to determine from where you are. Roughly 10 feet in there is a door on the left wall, and there are two other doors on the far wall opposite where you entered.

Well at least one of you will not need any light anyway. Also keep in mind that at least the foyer area itself is lit thanks to the holes in the ceiling.

The storm you braved to attend the meeting at the Morning Summit continues to rage for three long days, seemingly without any signs of stopping. Finally with the coming of the fourth day the clouds finally part and allow the sun to shine through, the air thick with the humidity that is typical of the hot summer days of this port city. Having made your final preparations you each begin to head toward the building Ladnar had marked on the map, feeling the humidity more so than the residents who aren't lugging around gear like you are. As you arrive the first thing you notice is that Ladnar's comment about the building needing work is a bit of an understatement, most of the windows are broken and boarded over, and the door hangs crooked in the warped frame. This warehouse is clearly past its prime, and you find yourself wondering if perhaps the Ranger has spent too much time smoking on his pipe in the woods. As he notices your approach the Half-elf waves madly, ushering you to come over; if you had planned to run it is too late now.

As the last of you arrives Ladnar gestures toward the structure and smiles like a mad man, "I know what you're thinking, but I got a great price on it, they practically paid me to take it off their hands! (This of course was not the case, as he could not get that lucky) The price did come with a couple minor hang ups as you can already see. Not only is the structure in disrepair, I've been forewarned that before it was abandoned the previous owners had a bit of a pest problem, the word infestation may have been mentioned. There is a plus to this though, the previous tenants were so eager to get away that a lot of their stuff was left in the rush and we're welcome to anything we can make use of." He turns away from you briefly, pulling hard on the door, which appears to be stuck. Once he finally gets the door pulled free of its frame you are immediately assaulted by the horrible odors of stale air, mildew, rotting food and excrement of whatever is living in this building. A quick peak inside gives you further insight into the level of work this place is going to need, as the floors are soaked from the storm, apparently the roof has a hole in it and several smaller leaks as well. Not only was the floor soaked but much of what had been left in this main room has already succumbed to wood rot or appears to have been gnawed on by whatever this 'infestation' is. With another smile, one in which you think you catch a glimpse of madness, he addresses you again, "So here's the deal, you fine folks are going to take care of our pest problem while I try to find a carpenter who will work cheaply. Remember, anything of value or use needs to be salvaged so we can either use it or sell it for funds."

((The hole in the roof is large enough that it lets in enough light to see in the main room once you enter, the other rooms you won't know until you enter them.))

While Chessic admittedly wants a lot of his character to remain a secret, I think its safe to let you all know that he is playing a Summoner. That simple fact would be a bit hard to hide anyway once he summons his eidolon, so I don't think he intended that to remain a secret.

I am working on the opening post as I type this, but admit that I am suffering from a bit of writer's block, so its not going quite as well as I would prefer.

As for the final player, I'll leave that little bit stashed away in the secrets folder, since I'm still waiting on more information. (No spilling the beans either Chessic since we both know that you know.)

I'm gonna have to go with Chessic on this one, I've got a game of my own to run soon, and I'm not sure I can devote the time to this anymore. Maybe we can pick up somewhere at a later date, when my own plate isn't so full.

After a brief visual inspection of the living foe the cleric sighed and replied calmly, "I think I'm going to have to agree, with the luck we've been having I cannot in good faith waste a spell healing a foe that I may need to mend another broken bone or serious wound in one of us. Besides, are we even sure there is enough of him left in his battered head to formulate articulate speech even if I did manage to heal him enough to come around? In fact, I'm inclined to say we just leave him to bleed out, but that would make us no better than they are, so I say we do the right thing and end the poor fool's suffering swiftly."

After thoroughly enjoying a much needed meal the half-elf excused himself from the dining hall without a word to anyone else. He quickly made his way to his room, ready to get out of these soiled clothes and into a nice bath so that he could relax this day away and put this disaster of a "test" behind him.

Despite all his bracing and muscles the half-orc could not hold himself steady as a sudden massive increase in weight was placed on the rope. Pulled to the ground he grimaced as he was drug across the stony ground, struggling to get some sort of steady footing to keep from going over the edge.

The bald one called his name, exclaiming that the cleric had been wounded, and that he needed to pull. Gronz felt this was a fairly obvious fact that did not warrant a reply, instead he just grunted and strained to get himself into a position in which he could effectively pull the armor plated cleric up.

He only hoped that the woman and mage could hold the creatures off; he wasn't sure if he could keep himself from going over the edge if they struck again, and this was not how he wanted his life to end.

Ladnar had been busy thinking over various plans in his head, as he often did, and barely heard the question being asked of him. Snapping out of it briefly he took a drag from his smoldering pipe and after exhaling replied, "There should be at least two more showing up any minute now, not sure what the hold up is though."

Recovering from his instinct driven attack the cleric rushed back to his fallen companion and with a quick spell was able to repair the man's broken ankle. He offered a hand to the knight, helping him to his feet, before gathering his dropped morningstar and strapping his shield onto its rightful place on his left arm. Realizing that they had gotten lucky with these three he took a quick stock of the situation and offered up what he believed to be the best course of action, "I think it best we gather up the bodies we can, drag them with us into this recently opened hole compliments of our large friend here, salvage whatever useful items we can from them and set up a body barricade to slow down any reinforcement that are likely on the way. Once inside the lower portions of this structure we can begin the search for the prisoners and hopefully get out in one piece." He paused for a moment, taking in a deep breath, not sure if the others will want to hear this part of his observations, "As it is, we've been very lucky when dealing with these Death Corps guys, or whatever they call themselves, I for one do not want to push our luck and would much prefer that we avoid too much more combat with these bastards."

((Converting Shield of Faith for the heal, having a mobile ally is more useful at this point than the spell itself may yet prove to be. I assume, that at this point Nick us unaware of the beaten but living merc, and therefore is under the assumption that all assailants are dead.))

These things looked to be quite a bit stronger than what Gronz was used to handling in his thug work, and as such he realized that maybe he might need some help up here if they were to survive to climb any higher up this mountain. Glancing around him he tries to locate somewhere, anywhere, to tie his rope in order to drop it down to aid the others in getting up here, the magics the cleric and mage could bring to this fight would be more useful than trying to take a stand on ground against flying foes. Finding nowhere suitable to tie off the rope the half-orc chooses instead to take a risk and drops to a kneel, bracing himself on the hard ground as he lowers the rope to the others, bracing himself against the weight that is sure to come when they begin their climb. Large muscles tightened beneath his grey skin, and he hoped silently that the female that had beat him up here would be able to hold off the beasts while he was otherwise occupied.

((EDIT: adding new information/action based on DM elaboration))

Across the Tavern, in a dimly lit corner sits a familiar Half-Elf most of you recognize pretty quickly as your "sponsor" for lack of a better word, Ladnar Stoneshield, aka The Wolf. He rises as you approach the table, and greets you all with a slight salute, "Good to see you managed to brave the storm to get here for this meeting. You may be wondering why I've called you all here, especially in this horrendous weather, but I assure you its good news. After months of extensive searching and haggling I have managed to procure a base of operations for The Wolf Pack, our own Den if you will." He pauses for a moment to gauge reactions, then continues without waiting for any verbal responses, "Now it needs some work, a bit of a personal touch, and some furnishings to be a proper base, but we'll get it done in no time." With that he passes out hand drawn maps that will lead you to the warehouse he mentioned and advises you each to get there once the storm has passed, which may be a couple days yet still. With his little speech complete he takes his seat again and returns to sipping on his drink, waiting to hear what the others think.

((We'll actually start the game with the meeting at the "Den" once I get the last few characters in, it will be assumed that any character submitted will also have been given a map, either now or at the time of their recruitment in order to find the Den.))

Yes there will still be some people harboring a hatred for Goblin-kin, but there are also still Goblin-kin harboring hatred for other races, so it goes both ways. Most people though will not attack a goblin with witnesses around, preferring instead to lure the Goblin into attacking first, then claiming self defense which most witnesses will back..

First off, Malvarin is what the DMG classifies as a Large City, and is a port with the primary exports and services offered being fish and transport beyond the Mage Scar that seperates their region from the majority of the continent. I haven't quite worked out the major details about power centers, politics, religion, or any of the other fun flavor bits, just set the stage for where the group would be based.

Feel free to chit chat in and out of character, even if just in a tavern scene, or down by the docks even. Don't be afraid to assume anything at this point, as it is already assumed that the group knows each other anyway.

I've got a map made up of the world and the general area in which we'll be staying while in the low levels, I just haven't managed to finish it, or find a host for that matter as I've been busy with work and other things.

DB, I'll be replying to your PMs shortly, sorry for the delayed response.

I'm all for attempting to pull the others up, we stand a greater chance of putting up a decent fight if half the team isn't still hanging onto cliff walls instead of fighting.

However, I'm not sure that the Half-Orc has that kinda planning capability, nor the sense of loyalty to help the others when his own life is on the line... soooo, it would seem that I am at a bit of a mental stalemate... Not sure what to do.
