Have either of you noticed if any of the other players log in at least semi-regularly? I know its hard to keep interest up in a game when the DM drops off the face of the Web, but I hope we can make something happen with this.

I don't quite have the next update planned or ready at this moment. I really want to see how many of you are still interested in continuing this game, are active, or even still get on the site at all. I have been inactive myself for a while now, so I am not too sure how often anyone else logs in at this point. If enough people post back that they are interested in continuing the game then I will update on the 1st and hopefully we can get things moving smoother than they have been thus far.

Subject: Nick

It would appear that once again Nick's ever thoughtful mind had gotten the better of him. As he pondered the boy's words, and tried to recall where he had heard the word Muussa, it seemed that some sort of commotion had started off behind him at the outskirts of the camp. By the time he had broken away from his train of thought the entire ordeal had been resolved and new plans had started to arise from the aftermath.

He overheard the halfling storyteller announce with great confidence that he would be back, and with another great tale to tell at that. He asked the nearest person to him what was going on, and was told that a group was to be setting out to find young Asten's missing companions, and more notably his sister.

Nick made his way through the camp, taking a place in the clearing next to the halfling and the larger newcomer. He announced to all gathered, while looking to Juaris, "If a group is to set out, I would like to accompany them. I know I have only just arrived myself, but if this Rain girl truly knows a way to cure the Flash Fever then I would rather be part of the mission to rescue her than just wait around here. My talents are probably better suited to this task than anything within the camp anyway."

Subject: Gronz

After a solid night's rest the half-orc gathers his things and grudgingly accepts the proposed disguising tactics of the bald stranger. Something didn't feel right about this whole situation, but leaving town was as good a way as any to wait for things to blow over. He made his way quickly through the city to the appointed gate, with the skill and precision of someone who knew the back alleys and streets of the city that was his long time home.

Arriving at the gate he paused, motioning to the person with him (since it was never really stated who was paired with who) to pause when he noticed the "bloodhounds" stationed at the gate, a nickname some of the rogues within his guild had given the lupine creatures the guards employed to find people when normal techniques failed. Not many disguises could fool the nose of one of those beasts. He shook his head and cursed under his breath, that was until he noticed the brightly clad figure approach. When all chaos broke out it clicked in his mind that this was the distraction they had been promised in their orders, this was how they'd get past the gatekeepers.

He motioned his companion to follow closely, making his way through the crowds toward the gate, knowing that this distraction would only last for so long.

I noticed in the update that apparently Echo was in the warehouse, when I coulda swore he was on the rooftop attempting to maintain the illusion/distraction to cover their escape.

Subject: Distraction

To (hopefully) maintain the credibility of the light distraction Echo will continue its presence as long as he can, making it move in and out of line of sight, but never moving toward their current location. Once the spell's effects fade, as long as they are still undetected he'll recast and attempt to maintain the distraction as long as possible.

I saw no point in making another in game post for that since there are no new actions taking place, merely the minimal thought required to move the light. If Charm Person was more useful it might be a viable option, but its a single target spell with a range of Close, and Echo isn't getting close enough to armed guards to attempt a spell on them. That's more of a cast from behind the rest of the group to get a single guard to help kinda option, not going to stop 12 guards with that spell, especially since I can't cast it 12 times. Good thinking though, I intend to go with a lot of enchantment in his arsenal to reflect the fey influences in his blood.

While I have managed to get a post up and hopefully get this moving again I wanted to let you all know that I am still not going to be 100% in my posting for a while longer. I am somehow still over my bandwidth despite having unplugged my modem for 3 days. I'll still be able to do these scattered posts like the ones I have done tonight, but don't expect answers to all the questions I'm sure you'll ask the carpenter the same day you ask them.

Arriving at his home the boy throws the door open and yells, "Papa, Mr. Green sent these men over, he said they would help!" The boy's father comes to the door, scans over your ragtag group and fails to hide a grimace. He speaks in a solemn but steady tone as he addresses you, "If the sheriff sent ya I s'pose you can't be too bad.. please come in and we can talk."

The warlock, who has been trying to spot magical auras since he came into the village, picks up on a very faint aura, nearly impossible to identify and barely present at this point, but there was clearly something magical in this room at one point.

As you follow the man into his home and then to his workshop it becomes apparent that the man is a carpenter as you spot the scattered signs of his craft, wood shavings, saw dust, and unfinished projects. The only tool you see however is a mallet, the other tools one would expect to find in a carpenter's shop are missing. He turns to you again, "I had my chisel and such sitting there on the work bench, turned my back to grab this piece of wood, and when I asked Jonas to hand me a knife he informed me the tools were gone. I've looked all over the shop, and not found any sign of them." You can see obvious signs that things have been moved in an attempt to locate the tools, but to no avail. "This isn't the first time my tools went missing either, about two and a half weeks ago they vanished on me, but that happened overnight, not while the boy and me were in the room. What if this time they don't turn up, what if the game is over and things start staying missing?"

Subject: Echario's gambit

Hearing the halfling's report on the situation outside, and his suggestion for a distraction, Echo steps out onto the roof with the halfling, staying as close to the wall as possible hoping to avoid detection by the archers below. He crouched down, and began the arcane motions and whispered chants for a spell, hoping in the back of his mind that the ruse would work. When the final word of the spell was muttered a sound like a group of people running toward the main door to the warehouse began to emanate from nowhere. (Ghost Sound)

Almost immediately after that started he started making different gestures and whispering another incantation. With the last word of this spell a faintly humanoid shaped light appeared at the far edge of the roof where they were, placed so as to draw attention away from their location rather than draw eyes, and the arrows that were sure to follow, toward them. (Dancing Lights)

With his fingers crossed and a silent plea to the God(dess) of Luck he watched and waited to see what would come from his plan.

Gronz sighed and shook his head, he knew that he was in deep now. It wouldn't be long before the guards at the prison had wanted posters with his face plastered all over the city, too many of them had seen him and he wasn't eager to wait and see what they would do if they found him. They hadn't received anymore answers than what they had started with, but at least they had a general direction to get them started on this journey, get them tangled even further in whatever web they had found themselves caught in.

Clearing his throat he spoke in his typical gruff tone, "I want my daggers back from whoever ended up with them." That was all he said, and all he intended to say, it wasn't as if he had the answers they wanted anyway, in fact he had questions of his own.

Having found himself an animated storyteller to listen to Nick subconsciously followed the little halfling over to the troubled youth, listening and eager to hear himself if what the boy had said was true. If this Rain truly knew of a way to treat the Fever then this was the discovery of a life time, information he would surely want to document for the good of generations to come.

Despite his normally optimistic outlook, he found himself sharing in the Raslan's skepticism, "Our halfling friend here is right, many wise and knowledgeable scholars have searched for cures and treatments for the Fever, including many clerics of my order. It is curious that your sister would discover a treatment where none before could." Nicholas was not ready to dismiss the boy's claims as entirely false, just highly unlikely.

For those of you who do not know, I am currently over my bandwidth for my internet. This basically translates to, my internet runs so slow that it is nearly impossible to load a page during the day. I had hoped a week of no internet activity would help alleviate some of this, but it seems a little bit more time is needed for me to drop back down to an acceptable usage level. Updates are currently on hold, though feel free to talk and plan in the QA as you wait. Thank you for your patience and understanding, I hope to be back sooner rather than later.

Gronz shook his head, "I do not know who hired me or why, all I know is my contact wore a lot of black and kept his face hidden. I can tell you that I am Gronz Blackblood, a hired hand asked to free you from your imprisonment, and I had hoped the task would have gone better than it did."

((Seriously, that is all I remember of what I was told about him, and for the life of me I cannot seem to find the message from Steel that had the details of my hiring.))

Almost certain that his strength would be of little use in moving these large crates he diverts his efforts to a more charismatic use, leading the mass of slaves toward the ladder the Dwarven brother was guiding them up. "We must move quickly if you value your lives and freedom, quickly up the ladder, a way out will be revealed..." His last words kinda trailed off, not too confident in what he was saying, not even sure they could get the doors blocked before the men on the streets were upon them.

The arguments that a cell phone would not work without a cell tower is easily brushed aside if you consider that a future society with time travel capabilities is also likely to have portable communication that does not require a tower but has a strong enough transmitter inside to do away with the need of cell towers, relays, and repeaters. Just a thought...

Subject: Nicholas Zahrdahl, Cleric labeled Heretic turned Refugee

Two long years had passed since the cleric known as Nicholas Zahrdahl had left his cloistered existence deep in the mountains, two long years of living and learning what the world had to offer. Through this time he had witnessed so much pain and suffering, especially during the time that some were already referring to as the Season of the Witch. Despite all the horrible things he had seen and experienced he would not let these glimpses into the darker side of the world ruin his experiences, he had also, during this time, witnessed much good, experienced great hospitality, and learned many things he had never even thought he'd learn in his wildest dreams. Recently he had stood up and spoke out against the destruction of a collection of books confiscated from a wizard's personal library, an act that had nearly cost him his life and labeled him a heretic by the Temple Knights. Following a narrow escape Nick had found himself accompanying a group of similar refugees who wanted to stand against the tyranny that had arisen during this age. The naive cleric was not too thrilled with the prospects of having to go underground, figuratively speaking, but remained optimistic that even during this time he could learn and experience the thrills of living among the rest of the world.

For days now the group the Nick had been traveling with had been doing much of their moving during the night, when the cover of the shadows would make it easier to avoid detection by those who would want to bring them harm. During the day they usually hid out in the basements, cellars, or attics of sympathizers who were not yet targets. Nick's eyes were hungry for the light and warmth of the sun, but he knew that the companions he had come to rely on knew best and stayed out of sight and hidden away when they said to. During this last night they had made their way into a forest that the sympathizers had said was the home of a refugee camp where they could all be safe and of use to others like themselves. They wandered lost in the forest for hours, seeking out the signs that would supposedly lead them to safety. While wandering the forest they came across a couple other small groups seeking safety, and eventually the group finally made it into the camp.

After a hearty welcome into the camp the cleric wandered the clearing taking in the sights and sounds, listening to stories in passing, pausing when something interesting caught his chronically curious ears. He had always had a soft spot for stories, legends, and the various other traditions of passing on information orally through the generations. If a story really caught his interest, kept his attention, and pulled at his heartstrings he would write it into his journal along with the other experiences he was sure to live through as he traveled.

I found this little article when I logged into Instant Messenger today, it appears that there is footage in a Charlie Chapman film of what appears to be a woman talking on a cell phone. The question arises then, is this some sort of time traveler who just happened to walk in front of the camera, some crazy person, or something totally logical that is easily explained by more "normal" thinking?

The Article.

Without a word to the newly freed prisoners Gronz made his way to the bedroom where he had previously left his belongings and shut the door, eager to get out of the uniform he had been wearing to infiltrate the prison. After changing into his "civilian" clothes the half-orc rejoined the others and addressed them, "I know you want answers, I don't have all the answers, but I will answer what I can." He then took a seat at the table and kicked his feet up on the table, reclining in the simple wooden chair rather casually for someone who had just barely made it out with his life.

Gronz continued his mad dash down the hall toward the window, knowing they had a better chance of going undetected in the streets and alleyways below. He hollered back to the prisoners behind him, oblivious to the fact that the last member of their little prison break convey had stumbled and fell behind, "I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not going to hang around and find out what the angry men with swords intend to do if they catch us!"

Upon reaching the window Gronz vaulted himself over the edge toward the street below, trying his best to land on his feet for a quick get away, hoping the others were smart enough to follow in a timely manner. This had been one of the messiest jobs he had pulled off, and not one he wanted to repeat any time soon.
