Kal shook her head within the hood she wore, "No means no, I will not put you in danger, not only would your father be heartbroken if anything happened to you. Not only that, but the rest of the camp would demand my head on a pike for "feeding you to the beasts" I'm sure. Now get back to camp before something finds you out here."

Zeph Blighthunter
Redwyrm Woods

Fearing the loss of his dearest and closest companion Zeph lays his gnarled hands on the wolf's bloodied fur and begins the incantationsto cast a healing spell on her. He knew the others would have wanted him to see to the human lying bleeding on the ground, but in is mind none came before Sintan, not even himself. One of the others would have to aid the merchant.

Subject: Must try!

Zeph, quickly realizing that Sintan was in desperate need of help, casts Flare on one of the creatures attacking her and rushes in trying to draw attention away from his companion. It is his hope that the flash of light and the appearance of another enemy will drive the creatures back, as they already appear shaken as it is. As he rushes in he draws his morningstar, ready to strike when the opportunity presents itself.

(Flash is standard action, drawing weapon is free as part of move action.)

I currently do not have my nWOD core book, nor do I own Hunter, but this sounds fun. Perhaps I'll have to try to find a cheap used copy or hunt down the friend who has my core book.. Next game hopefully.

Subject: The time to act is now!

Zeph scanned the scene, and soon realized that a couple of the monsters had been alerted to Sintan's presence. Realizing it wouldn't be long before the rest of them were found out Zeph closed his eyes, making the appropriate gestures as he muttered the incantations, he focused on the power granted to him by the very energies of nature itself, to summon forth a second wolf into the clearing, presenting the group with a distraction and another ally for the fight in which they were clearly outnumbered.

((Spontaneous casting of Summon Nature's Ally I to summon a wolf, sacrificing Entangle. As per spell text in PHB the wolf appears where I designate, and acts immediately on my turn. I believe the spell duration is 1 round, now if that means the wolf just poofs at the end of the round is up to the DM. Sintan is not trained to follow specific orders in a combat situation, and as such will act naturally for a wolf. As such I assume that leaves her under DM control and not my own. Wolf tactics are to attempt a trip with each successful bite as I recall, but I am going from memory on this and am not sure.))

Subject: Tag-Along Runt... Why me?

"Hey, Kal," an annoyingly familiar voice came calling out to her, "I... heard... you.. were goin' to.. Gleech," he panted and followed his words with a pleading smile, "Can I come, I so want to see a real airship." Kal rolled her eyes at this, the boy's fascination with Goblin technology was a dangerous one that was sure to get him, and her by association, into more trouble than the gadgets were worth. Before she could even voice her protests at his tagging along he continued, "Please, Kal, I promise I'll be good, I'll act just like a slave the whole time... I mean isn't it more convincing if you have a slave, aren't dragons all rich anyway?" Again she rolled her eyes at the boy's naive view of the world around him and decided to have some fun, "No Terral, dragons eat little humans, not keep them as slaves. The monsters would all expect me to constantly be taking bites out of you like a walking whimpering snack!" To add a second punch to this she snapped her sharp teeth at him to remind him just how sharp they were, "Besides, you look a little too healthy to be a slave, and you aren't missing a hand or anything, not even a finger." She could see the worry start to rise up in the boys face and she smiled, again flashing her mouth full of razor sharp teeth. "Besides, won't Ol' Pointy Ears be looking for you, I'm sure he's got a long boring solo lecture planned for you." In the background she almost thought she heard a call from the direction of the camp yelling, "I heard that!"

While it seems somewhat obvious from player knowledge that we are dealing with kobolds, do any of our characters recognize the scaly ones?

How badly injured is the man (I'm assuming he's a merchant of sorts)?

Did you say a couple of the scaled beasties were heading for us, or are they all distracted with the looting and murder?

Oh, and how many targets can we see?

Normally Zeph would've argued about an elf telling him what to do, but the words of Professor O'Leary still rung clear in his ears, and so he decided to go along with things and keep his thoughts to himself.

Looking to Sintan he muttered the Goblin word for Seek, a trick they had worked on when Zeph needed to find somewhere to camp where no living thigs might disturb them. Sintan would do her best to find anything in the forest that was clearly alive, now if she found the source of the yelling and yipping would be a different story all together. With Sintan on the trail Zeph followed behind her and Darkon, giving them both plenty of space while still being able to see them and watch their backs as needed, doing his best to avoid detection despite the thick undergrowth.

((+12 Hide, +9 Move Silent, +6 Listen and Spot, and +5 Survival if it helps for Zeph. As for Sin; Hide +2, Listen +3, Move Silently +3, Spot +3, Survival +1. Bonus Trick from Druid was Seek, the companions enters an area looking for anything alive or animate. Which sadly is quite vague and may make it a bit easy for a devious DM to rule that she gets distracted by a rabbit or something. Btw, I forgot that Wolves have a +4 racial bonus on Survival checks when tracking by scent.))

Subject: Another supply run.. another escape

As the morning sun finally managed to penetrate the thick foliage of the forest Kal slowly opened her eyes and looked around, taking in the all too familiar sights of the tent she had been living in for years. To her left her mother laid asleep still, wrapped in the arms of yet another of the camp's men, old habits truly died hard with her, but at least she was no longer a slave forced to pleasure the foul creatures of Gleech. To her right the two other renegades they shared the tent with were just starting to stir, stretching their weary limbs, willing their bodies to wake up and preparing for the day ahead of them, giving only a slightly disapproving shake of their head to Marianna and her "companion" still asleep across the room. As they set about to pulling on their old, worn out leather armor and strapping on various crude weapons Kal did the same, pulling on her clothes, adjusting things as needed, and making sure nothing had fallen out of her many pockets as she moved her clothes around. Once everything was in place, including the old, and very valuable she had been told, daggers Ol' Pointy Ears had given her she pulled on her cloak and drew her hood up to hide her face. It was true that the outlaws here believed her to be their saviour, but she could see the fear in their eyes just the same as they gazed upon her scaled lavender skin, fear that she may at any time lose control of her draconic tendencies and slaughter them all without a second thought. Heading out of the tent she gave her mother another parting glance, sighing under her breath to see her in that condition even now.

Once outside among the rest of the camp she headed toward the central camp fire, as she did every morning, to get her share of the meal the hunters had brought in the night before. This morning it seemed it was to be fire roasted venison, one of her favorite meals. Grabbing on of the clay plates from the stack by the fire and found herself one of the supposedly "undercooked" pieces and set to eating it. Her practice of eating the rare cuts of meat only made the others in the camp that much more nervous, but for some reason those parts always seemed better to her, like more of the flavor was sealed in by the lack of cooking than what the cooking did to it. Out of the corner of her eyes she spotted Koridel heading her way, not even waiting for her to finish her meal it seemed. She muttered something under her breath about how the old pointy eared geezer needed to give her a moment of peace for once, only to have him already be at her side, scolding her even this early with a, "I heard that young lady!" He may have been old, but his hearing was still as sharp as ever it seemed. She finished her meal before even bothering to acknowledge him at all, finally glancing at him she replied, "Can I help you today Master Elf?" The 'master elf' comment was more sarcasm than respect, and he knew it, but chose to let it go today as there were more important matters at hand. "Young lady, we will address this issue with disrespect later, but first I need you to head into Gleech again, we're running low on essential items, and you're the only one here that can go into the city without raising suspicions." He handed her a list of items, ranging from useful things like salt and even trivial things like ink, and said, "We need as much of this as possible, you have money from the last time still, so take care of this, and be careful. We can't let anyone know that you are shopping for us, so only look at the list when no one is looking, and make sure you are not followed!" Kal snatched the list from the old Elf with her clawed hand and snapped back, "Have I been followed yet? You need to stop treating me like I don't know what I'm doing. I am not the helpless child I was when mother and I first came to you!" She didn't even wait for a response from him before heading back to her tent to get her pack, disgusted by the scene she walked in on, it seemed mother and her "friend" had woke up finally but were not quite out of bed just yet. She quickly grabbed her pack and bolted back out the tent, not even waiting to listen to what her mother had to say to her.

Before anything else could rub her the wrong way she headed eastward out of the forest and toward the city, eager to get away from the drudgery of the camp, from bossy elves, and, as much as she hated the thought, her whore mother...

We're all human on the other side of the screen, mistakes will be made. Besides, I know I can be pretty bull headed and stubborn at times too.

I repeat though, I'm not picking on anyone, and I mean no offense by any comments I make, in or out of character, unless I personally attack you, which I'll at least have the decency to do via PM and not out in the open.

Well we'll not argue the point, all I was saying was that in the future players would be wise to avoid assumptions about characters, some DMs would consider that Metagaming and not only frown upon it, but may even remove you from a game for repeated offenses.

I understand the game is for newer players, and I understand mistakes will be made, I'm not trying to give anyone a hard time, and I'm not picking on anyone.

However Steel, I would appreciate if we could agree to not argue so much over rules and semantics. I'd like to remind you that I am not a noob, I do know the rules pretty well, and am just trying to be helpful when I make comments like those about him being vague about what type of magic he uses.

As for the feat I mentioned, its not official WotC material, its actually found in Ultimate Feats by Mongoose Publishing, and the feat is Big Familiar, which allows a caster to bind a medium or smaller animal, beast, or vermin as their familiar as long as its CR is half their character level. And I suspect with you publishing your own materials you would be a little more willing to accept feats from non-WotC materials. And yes I realize the book was not available during character creation and still is not, the point is that pet wolf does not always scream Druid and making assumptions can be bad.

I'm reminded of a game I played in in my old table-top group, one of the guys was playing a warlock/bard, and while we all knew as players that he was a 'lock, since he sang a note everytime he used his Eldritch Blast our characters had no choice but to believe it was a bard skill he had picked up.

But I'm done rambling on and on about nothing, so don't mind me and lets see if we can't keep the momentum going in this game that we had going.

Zeph stopped in his tracks only briefly as he was addressed again, listened, and replied, "I used a bow in the Field of Death because that is what was provided to me, but rest assured I am no archer, I have no training, and to ask me to fire a bow at a target Sintan is currently attacking is almost as bad as asking me to shoot at Sintan herself. I do not have the precise aim and coordination to fire effectively into melee. My specialty is to get in behind a target and dish out as much pain as possible as quickly as possible. Now, as much as I hate to admit it, I agree with you, we need to get some rest, and as such I am heading to my room now, just as soon as I get Sintan from the courtyard."

With that he walked out of the kitchen and to the courtyard, eager to see his companion again and leading them both back to his room for the night.

>>FAST FORWARD<<

After a much needed night's rest Zeph prepared for the test at hand as he did every morning, and headed to the forest, with Sin close behind, as asked of them the previous evening.

((Yes I know, no details and no creativity, but someone has to get this moving, for the sake of the game assume he took the same steps he took in the last post I had him getting prepped for the day, including preparing his usual spells for the day, armor, weapons, and a couple other crucial items in his belt pouch.))

Subject: Well, if we're getting technical here..

The group never had a healer, Zeph is not a caster, he was not built as a caster, and his stats are not arranged to be even remotely useful as a caster. He is first and foremost a rogue at this point, the druid is for the eventual access to Wild Shape and the added damage capability of having a wolf since his BAB progression is still zero.

And let me also point out that he never made any indication as to what kind of magic he could cast, only that he could cast a little bit. For all either of the Elves actually know he's a sorceror with a wolf familiar, or an advanced Ranger.

No, no need for a mop here.

Just hope everyone understands, the comments Zeph makes are completely in character, I mean no offense to any other player by insulting character race, class, or any other aspent there of. Zeph is just an ugly evil little bigot with a lot of hate in his heart. So please don't take anything personally, and lets just have fun.

I find it almost funny though how it was suggested that the evil druid prepare healing spells. Especially since he's only capable of the lower level spells, has few bonus spells, and really isn't all that willing to offer an elf the grace of a mercy killing much less a healing spell. The one healing spell he usually has prepared is generally reserved for Sintan should she need healing.

And yes, I understand that his way of thinking is counter productive when trying to work in a team, but please just try to understand that this is the character, and its going to take him some time to warm up to anyone, especially an Elf-kin. As he grows and matures his personality may change and things may flow in a more team friendly manner.

Subject: The arguments of Elf-kin, tsk tsk

Zeph
RedWyrm Kitchen
Week 1--Tuesday

Zeph sat silent as he listened to the two make their points, realizing quickly that both were fools in their own right. As soon as one of them would give him cause to believe they were not completely hopeless they would say something new to renew his faith, or lack there of, in the idiocy of the Elven people. (No offense to either of you, the ugly little druid just really doesn't like Elves.)

The dark skinned one seems at times as though he would understand, but then turns around and contradicts that by defending the crazy monk (no offense Steel, all in character as usual). He argues to justify an attack that he himself would likely have hated to been on the receiving end of, though he took great pains to hide his heritage for fear of being found out and discriminated against.

Mid-thought Zeph set down yet another bowl he had scrubbed, his pile of dishes was a bit smaller than the others as he had started later, and a lot had been done before his arrival.

The one called Darkon claims to be all for a peaceful resolution of things, yet Kiirnon made an excellent point earlier, he did rush off in an overly excited hurry to "kick some imp ass". Such rash actions are not the actions of any sort of good leader. I can understand what he is getting at with the whole idea of a leader, but the leader has to think before acting, or he is not the only one harmed by his decisions. An Alpha Wolf must work for the good of the whole pack, plan for what is best for the pack, not simply act and hope all goes well for the pack.

Shaking his head at his own thoughts while only half way listening to the others he sets yet another bowl on his pile and hops down from his stool, heading for the door, stopping only to say, "I am no healer, and I am no archer, please, Elf, do not think to tell me how to act and what to do. Sintan and I will fight as a team as we always do. Besides, are your people not renowned for their skill with a bow, why not task yourself with the archery duties?"
