((I hate to have to rewrite this; but if I must I will, I looked to see what Guidance did, and only after I finished the post did I realize that Guidance is a touch spell. Unless of course you have the familiar delivering, that would involve you getting in harms way to cast it.))

As Tyrvia finished casting her spell Canicus felt the familiar guiding hand of the Divine. Smiling to himself he stepped up again, letting the magic guide him as he swung again at the monstrosity, ready to return the damage it had inflicted upon him. However now with the assassin getting the rope in place Canicus realized he would need to be more careful in order to avoid hitting the rope and burning the delicate silk. His tactical mind also realized that the rope would not hold for long if the foul abomination was able to swing his flaming sword into it. "TRY TO DISARM THE FIEND!!", he shouted, and he swung once again at the beast, this time specifically targeting the sword arm, hoping beyond hope that the blow, along with the divine Guidance, would be enough to crush the bones of the arm, disarming his foe in more than one way.

((usual 2 handed swing, scorching, guidance to attack roll, attempting to either break the arm or force the fiend to drop his blade.))

The rush of adrenaline as Canicus slammed his morningstar into the foul creature's armor was almost enough to get the Ifrit high. He truly relished the feeling of battle, and the chance to show his skill at what he did best always brought out a hotter desire for battle. When the creature activated the enchantment on the blade it wielded the Inquisitor could not help but smile as he dodged the flaming slash directed at his throat.

As he stepped back up to take another mighty swing with his weapon, focusing on the heat of the battle and urging that heat into his weapon, he thought to himself, This just got interesting!

((Again, 2 handed bash, Scorching Weapons feat to add the additional point of fire damage as usual.))

Exactly what size is this skeletal monstrosity? I was under the impression, based on the "I used to be a man" backstory that it was a simple medium skeleton, yet some of the posts make it out to be a giant... so which is it?

Canicus felt he had already made it fairly clear what the plan was and felt that having to repeat himself would be a waste of his time and energy. Without a word to the others he headed to the foot of the stairs that Malagaar had already scouted up and waited for the others to follow. Perhaps Tyrvia had been right, this little diverse group did need a leader with a strong hand to guide them, but he sure didn't want to take on that responsibility himself. His expertise was in War, battle, and to a lesser extent death, he was no leader and did not want the burden placed on his shoulders.

It would appear, from a simple reading of the posts thus far, that Istanius does in fact currently hold the staff, it was simply Canicus' recommendation that you instead use your shield and that Tyrvia allow Malagaar to use the staff instead.

Canicus had expected an argument from Malagaar, the elf may not consider his attitude to be prideful but the Ifrit sure did. "I acknowledge that you are not a monk, the fact that you actually wear armor is more than a fair give away as to that since no monk I've ever met has ever worn armor, something about interfering with their movements or something. I only suggested that you take the staff as you are trained in the effective use of two weapons and both ends of the staff can be used as if it were two separate weapons. If you would prefer to use the blades you favor, then by all means do so, I was just offering another option."

How's that for a plan of action? The Immolator may favor action over words, but can deliver a hell of a speech no?

Canicus picked himself up from the casual pose he had maintained against the stone wall of the ledge and walked, as if he had a purpose, toward the witch and cavalier.

"Might I make a suggestion? Judging simply from the fact that you wear a shield Istanius, I presume you are more familiar with a single handed weapon such as a longsword. Now I have seen many battles against many different foes in my years, considering that only the elves have lived more years than I, and I have seen many a warrior crush the bones of a skeletal abomination with nothing but the shield they normally use for defense. You see friend, anything at your disposal is a weapon if you know the right way to use it."

Turning his attention now to the witch he added, "I suggest that you lend that staff to your kinsman, his expertise with dual weapon combat would make him much more effective in combat with the stick than our noble friend here. I've witnessed many a monk unleash a flurry of blows with a staff much like that one, and I'm sure our scout there could mimic that fairly well, if he's willing to try." With that last comment he shot a look to Malagaar, half-wondering if the proud elf would accept his knowledge or if he would reject it and continue in his usual headstrong stubborn ways.

Turning his attention now to the dagger wielding rogue Canicus walked over to where he stood and in a low voice added, "How do you feel about underhanded and outright foul combat tricks? If we can bring the monster down, trip him up somehow, he'll be much less a threat to us. I have a coil of rope in my pack, do you think you could weave in and out of the combat while Istanius, Malagaar, and myself keep it occupied and get the rope wrapped around the monster's legs and try to pull it down?"

Turning again, this time to address the entire group, he added, "While your blades may not be the most effective weapons against a skeletal foe, they are by no means useless, however you will have much better luck dealing with this type of foe if we work as a unit and follow the tactical suggestions I have made. Without flesh and vital organs the normal stealth tactics will not work, we'll have to be direct with this one. Tyrvia try not to use too many of your spells, we may need them further down the road, but if you have anything in your magical arsenal that will be especially useful against this foe then by all means use it. Istanius, as I already said, don't forget that the shield you bear can be used to deliver crushing blows, not just to stop them. Malagaar, I know your elvish pride may sometimes cloud your better judgement, I've known many elves just like you, and there is nothing wrong with that at all. However, I truly believe that while you may favor that fancy arm-blade, whatever it may be called, I really think our best option at this point is for you to use your fellow elf's staff as you'd be better able to deliver strikes with it than the heavily armored cavalier." He had intentionally left the sidebar conversation with Arimm out of this address, he was sure that some of the more "noble" members would not approve of such foul play, even against a foe such as this.

Turning his attention just shortly toward the horse he thought silently to himself, tired of words and craving action now, This beast's hooves would be a boon in this fight no doubt, but she's likely be in the way again with the compact area we're being forced to contend with...

((If Arimm thinks he can manage that, Canicus will pull out the coil of rope for him, if not then he'll suggest that the rogue stay by the witch's side as originally planned in case the skeleton is nothing but a distraction for something else to come at them from another angle))

This knowledge is only based on the fact that we were told the "Guardian" appeared to be an armored skeleton. He could still very well be an animated statue that looks like a skeletal warrior...

Also, I noted that our valiant cavalier has a shield, shield bashing is blunt damage no?

With the scout returning to report that there seemed to be what he referred to as a Skeletal Warrior Champion ahead the Ifrit sighed to himself. More undead abominations, I should have known as much.. At least my training keeps me well informed on how to deal with such things.

(Assuming successful knowledge check to know about the DR most skeletons have. Especially with Monster Lore class feature and being a divine caster)

He turned and addressed the rest of the group, keeping his voice low as the Ranger had, "If this skeleton is in fact another undead obstacle we must pass, I hope you all have blunt weapons available. Without flesh and muscle to slice through the daggers, swords, and other blades you seem to favor will be of little use against this foe. I was looking forward to being able to swing my own blade, use the weapon of my faith, but I too will have to settle for continued use of this morningstar."

Canicus only half listened to either of the elves as they both had their little outbursts. The squabbling of his comrades was no concern of his. The bits that he did catch though told him that they both had good points to be made, moving as a group would give them the benefit of numbers, but as the Ranger had stated a group would be spotted much easier than one single stealthy scout, especially with the clanking of his and the Cavalier's armor.

As the Ranger left the Ifrit let his final opinion be known, "Malagaar is right, a single scout will be less likely to be spotted as he goes ahead. A group, especially a group containing some of us in loud clanky armor, will be much more easily noticed. Let him go on, if he gets himself hurt again then rest assured that you are not the only one that can heal him if need be. I may be a Herald of the God of War, a bringer of death wherever I tread, but I am capable of healing wounds when the need arises.

Canicus merely shrugged at the assassin's wager and took a moment to shake as much of the rotten matter from his weapon as he could. The battle had been too short, been over too easy, it hardly felt like it was worth his time and effort as a herald of the God of War. Battle was battle however and he did relish every chance he had to practice his art. As the dark skinned elf announced that he would be going ahead to scout Canicus leaned himself casually against the cliff wall and awaited a report or the sounds of battle, whichever reached his ears first.

The Ifrit could not help but smile at the sound of rotting skull crumbling beneath the red hot strike from his weapon. While this wasn't his main weapon of choice it would have to do in these tight fighting conditions, and it appeared to be doing just what it was meant to do as it was. Barely even acknowledging the request for a distraction from the assassin the inquisitor rushed forward toward the remaining reanimated scout and again swung the red hot weapon with the full force of both his arms to try to bring down this fiend as well.

With the horse calmed and pulled to the side, as out of the way as could be managed on this narrow ledge, Canicus decided it was time to move directly into the fray where he belonged. He charged into the battle, drawing his morningstar as he pressed forward to engage the now burnt corpse he had previously targeted with the fiery bolts granted to him by his faith. As he focused his burning rage and the fire that flowed in his veins the morningstar seemed to almost glow red-hot, and in fact it was as he prepared to bring it down into the decaying head of his foe with the force of a two-handed swing.

(Scorching Weapon feat, additional 1 point of fire damage on top of the damage from the morningstar, swinging it with both hands as well, force of habit from the greatsword training. If it is at all feasible to do so he will attempt to flank his target, if he can do so without putting himself at more risk than charging at a hungry zombie already puts him in)

Subject: Last to the party, go figure

Seeing as he was carrying the most gear, or as he liked to see it was the best prepared, Canicus brought up the rear of the charge into the temple that was the source of the ritual. When he noticed that the horse had been spooked and was now pretty much just blocking his advance he realized it was time to change tactics as trying to squeeze past the spooked horse with his greatsword could end disastrously for him. He sheathed the massive blade as he continued forward and focused instead on his on burning rage and the fiery passion of his faith.

Watching as his companions all attempted to do what they could around the horse while trying to traverse the dangerous path they were on, he waited to see which of the shambling abominations was going to be easiest to strike at with the holy flames of his faith. This could be tricky with all the obstructions in his way though.

(Attempting to use Domain Power on which ever zombie he has the clearest line of sight to as there are several other party members and a horse in his direct path 1d6+2 fire damage if he hits. If he can't get a clear line of sight, or it seems incredibly likely that he may hit a friendly target he will instead advance forward, instead drawing the morningstar he carries as it is lighter and less cumbersome while trying to move carefully on this path around a horse, and attempt to instead smash some zombie skull rather than burn them. Of course if he has to resort to the morningtar he'll use Scorching Weapons and burn while he bashes.)

making sure I understand the scene as it is correctly. We're on a narrow ridge over a deep ravine that likely means certain death if we fall, the horse is in the front, therefore blocking much chance of anyone moving around it to join the fight as the ledge we're on is just barely the width of a man, much less a horse.. Does that about sum it up?
