Khetarin's stands two inches over six feet and will blend into a stone wall while wearing his grey-dyed leather armor or grey and charcoal cloak. The man keeps his sandy-colored hair pulled back in a pony-tail, though it's just barely long enough to do so and strands will often get loose and hang in his face. He has a boyish grin that some find very disarming, but for most it can't pull attention away from his unsettling grey eyes which, in the right light, have a slight crimson tint to them.

Oh, and I hope this goes without saying, but please try to keep player knowledge separate from Character knowledge, just because it is clear that our warlock friend is of fiendish descent, however, your character may not be able to tell this immediately, unless of course he comes right out and announces it.

Topic: Orion Group - Q/A
Subject: Orion Group - Q/A

I figured I could go ahead and post the Q/A thread for those of you who have questions and provide a place to chat a bit about the game. Not only that, but maybe the Q/A thread could get a few looks and get people interested as well, who knows?

FAQ: (Well not really, but questions I have been asked)

Q: Which books are available?
A: I'm open to anything but psionics.

Q: Can I be X Race or Class?
A: Any race that doesn't have a level adjustment is fair game. The only exception here is that I would prefer no flying races, such as Raptorans. Any non-psionic classes except paladins are open, even home brews if I approve them in advance, that includes races.

Q: Can I have some info on The Orion Group that I am supposed to be joining?
A1: The Orion Group is an adventuring/mercenary guild that does a little bit of everything, as long as there is something to be gained. Not all gains are monetary in nature, information, secrets, and other abstract forms of payment have been accepted as well. The Group may do anything from recover stolen goods to perhaps even stealing said goods themselves. The Group is not evil, but by no means are they overtly good either.
A2: That said, very few people in the campaign world know anything truly concrete about The Group, thus the characters start with knowledge only of rumors they have heard through the years. These rumors can range from hearing that The Group is a cult of assassins, to something along the lines of The Group kidnaps children at night and replaces them with fey copies to infiltrate the nobility and take over the world slowly. You are free to decide what rumors your character has heard and what they believe about The Group.

Q: How often are we updating?
A: Well, since I'm new to DMing, and have a couple of new players as well I'm going to take things slow, maybe twice a week, if that.

I have found both the rules I had found years ago, as well as the Zodiac Fletch mentioned. I think Zodiac is a little watered down myself, but the one I found years ago can be found at http://www.returnergames.com/ord/index.php/Main_Page. I know I could link it, but I'm not that worried about it, a mod could always fix that if they so desired, personally I don't mind a little copy and pasting. The entire rulebook is on the wiki page which I have linked, the download can be found at http://www.returnergames.com/

Also, I haven't looked over it yet, but I found this, a FF D20 translation. http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs42/f/2009/129/2/1/FF3_5e_by_Raidzuo.pdf

While I never managed to find a group to play with I did find a table-top Final Fantasy game once long ago. (I could probably find it again if I hunted hard enough..) I really wanted to play it, but I had a hard enough time finding DnD games, much less trying to get people to sit down and learn a whole new game.

Don't suppose anyone would be willing to take the time to try to learn to run a game using the system, assuming I can find it again, on the site?

Subject: Duskblade

I've always wanted to play a Duskblade, never gotten a chance to though. The class reminds me, quite fondly I might add, of a watered down Redmage from Final Fantasy. I can see in my head doing enough cross-classing and Prestiging into something that makes me all nostalgic and happy for the days of classic, class-based, Final Fantasy goodness.

Subject: oh

It is possible I overlooked the Beguiler spells, but that still leaves the hole in the Duskblade list. And if you read the Spells section of the Duskblade he starts with x 0-level spells depending on his bonus, yet where are these 0-levels pulled from?

EDIT: I feel astronomically stupid now, I found the Duskblade list as well. My problem was I was looking at the list in the Magic chapter of the book, not the class description. So this is resolved, I am officially an idiot, and we can all go about our days as if I never opened my mouth.

Subject: Confusion regarding spell lists

I've noticed something recently that strikes me as odd, and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the matter and help me out. Both the Beguiler and the Duskblade [maybe others, but these are the two I have noticed] list 0-level spells in their spells per day tables, and it is very specific in the class descriptions that their spells are pulled from the spell lists bearing the classes name. Neither spell list has any 0-level spells listed however. So would the 0-level spells the character supposedly knows just be pulled from the wizard's list, or are their no 0-level spells because there are none on their spell list?
Is there errata clearing this up somewhere, or something I missed perhaps?

Ah Ren-Faire, such fun. I think I did rather well for only having $50 to spend, made it out with a katana, two knives, a pendant of some sort whose meaning is lost on me, and a [badly made] cat-o-nine tails [whip] and a dragon statuette all for $40.

Subject: thought so

Thanks for the kind words, and I figured it would be hard to pull off without insane level adjustments, so I wasn't expecting anything huge out of this request.

As for the name, I've had this idea in my head for a very, very long time, well before Harry Potter came along I'd wager, because for the longest time I dreamed of being a game designer, for years I did nothing but think up characters, their stories, abilities, and other pertinent information. The character of Raven (my old namesake) was one such character, animagi started in my head as more of a spell caster (kinda like FF's Blue mage, but with shape shifting) than a race, but has evolved into a race over time.

Ironic, off topic fact, my dream to be a game designer is actually what got me started on DnD, my father, who used to play DnD when he was younger, suggested that I first try to translate my ideas into a table top game like DnD. Not putting my ideas into DnD, but making a new game with my ideas, it never went anywhere mind you, as I never seem to have the time to get anything else worked out, and as such I've decided to settle for trying to find a way to bring my favorite creation into my favorite past time...

Topic: Probably can't be done, but...
Subject: Probably can't be done, but...

Would anyone like to possibly help me find a way to turn my race of shape shifters, the animagi, into a player class for a DnD game? I play under v3.5 rules, so that is obviously preferred. If you've read my story "Leaving the Pack" you know a bit about the animagi, if you haven't read it then shame on you. For convenience I will post a short description for those of you who haven't read it.

I'm aware a level adjustment would be required, no doubt about it, I've tried working out a 'monster' class using the doppelganger as a reference, but would much rather have a single HD race easily usable as a player race. A +3-4 LA though makes that a little hard to pull off. I've even tinkered with the idea of making animagi a class for DnD purposes, but it is too close to a druid with pure focus on wild shape with no spell casting, so most would probably choose druid anyway I would think..

As promised though, here is a paragraph describing the race; On the surface these proud forest dwellers appear human in every way, the only tell-tale difference being that every animagi has black hair streaked with silver, and many of the other races assume they were nothing more than uncivilized humans afraid of change. In actuality though, the animagi are much much more than human, they are shape shifters, more specifically, they all possess the extraordinary ability to assume the form and ability of any animal. This means that an animagi who assumes the form of a falcon gains the bird's amazing eye sight as well as the ability to fly, and one taking the form of a cheetah could run just as fast as any other cheetah, and one taking the form of a spider or scorpion would be able to poison those who threatened him with a bite or sting. Not only that, but an animagi can communicate perfectly with any animal while in the form of the same species, birds with birds, felines with felines, and so forth. It was these amazing abilities that had caused the animagi to go into a self imposed exile many, many generations ago, seeing their gift as a blessing from the powers of nature and change, but having the foresight to know that humanity is a jealous race and would be envious of these abilities, perhaps even afraid of them and seeing them as monsters. So for many ages the animagi have lived on the edge of an ever expanding human culture, moving as required to stay hidden for the most part, and the majority of them are more than happy to live this life.

basically, racial wild shape ability usable at will, probably a skill bonus to listen and spot similar to elves, I don't know if class restrictions would help with the LA at all, but no animagi takes levels in druid, EVER. The animagi gains the animal's physical scores (STR, DEX, CON) while keeping his/her own mental scores (INT, WIS, CHA). This translates to changes in HP, attack bonuses, AC, etc..
The animagi gains any special qualities, attacks, or skills of the animal, including but not limited to fly speed, swim speed, burrowing, scent, etc. The wild shape is not limited to what the MM calls animals either, this includes many mundane 'vermin' as well, spiders, scorpions, and other bugs as well but excludes dinosaurs and dire animals, as well as a couple other animals that aren't exactly natural. I'm thinking no ability bonuses, but perhaps a -2 penalty to CHA simply because they are a reclusive race and very naive/uneducated in the ways of most other races. (penalty with no countering bonus may even help lower the LA a bit). Favored class of Ranger, animagi train as hunters at a young age, though it is not uncommon for animagi to take levels as clerics of nature gods, arcane casters, and even the occasional barbarian.

Topic: The Curse of Kobold Hall - 4th edition D&D
Subject: life is a journey

After a full night's rest Verion arose rested and ready to go. He quickly put on his armor, not too quickly of course, one could never get too hasty when protection was concerned. Gathering up the rest of his supplies, taking special care not to forget his trusty spear or his totem, he headed out to the gate to meet the others. It came as no shock to him that the Dwarf had once again made it a point to separate those of them with Elven blood from the rest of them with his "and elves" comment, but it was something he generally chose to ignore, understanding how rough it must be to not only be the only Dwarf among them, but to be so short and grumpy all the time.

A small smile crept onto his face as they crossed into the forest, perhaps it was his Elven blood, perhaps it was his ties to the spirits all around, but he had always felt at home among the mighty trees. Looking to the others it became apparent quickly that he was not the only one feeling at home, even if the Dwarf didn't have the subtle graces of his other companions. It was no wonder they quickly became lost, as it was always easy to get lost in the welcoming embrace of the natural world, especially the forest. When they came to a stop he looked around, taking in the sights, and a small pile of stones to the east caught his eye pretty quickly. Was it some sort of marker, or perhaps just a random piling of stones? There was really only one way to find out, but he would wait to see exactly what his companions wanted to do before wandering off. Upon noting that the druid was getting a look around from higher ground, and the dwarf was covering things lower the shaman decided to take a more spiritual approach to the matter.

Heading toward the pile of stones Verion tuned out the actions of his assorted companions, clearing his mind and opening it to the spirits that were constantly around. Stepping briefly up on the pile of stones he looked around the area, looking for anything out of place or different, tracks perhaps, listening inwardly to the guidance of the spirits. ((perception check I suppose no?))

Subject: Two things...

First, and I may be reading a bit too much into the usefulness of this particular ability, but could my Speak with Spirits power be used in order to gain information. The way I read it is that I am aware of the spirits at the very fringe of our reality, and if that is the case perhaps one of those spirits knows where the Hall is, or perhaps even died there in the case of a more ghostly sense of the word spirit. And if nothing else I can use it to augment the nature or perception check to get the lay of the land/find tracks and determine which way would be best for this particular challenge.

Second, the small pile of rocks you mentioned to the east, about how far is that away, and would it be so far from the rest of the group as to be foolish and/or dangerous to head that way alone in order to get a moments brief silence to focus and open my mind to the spirits?

I'll likely have to post tomorrow if not much later tonight, depends on when I get answers to these questions I suppose... I can at least post personal thoughts on the trip while waiting for answers though.

..but I barely have time to work out details in my own game worlds, much less playtest another.

Believe it or not I too had an idea several years ago of a campaign setting where the sun had long since been extinguished. I never got any where near the detail you have, but I have worked on it little by little over the years, though I haven't managed to get anywhere with it beyond simple ideas and plot hooks.

I would have to agree with you, and might I add that I am very jealous, none of my stories have ever quite ended up as well thought out as your legend.
