Subject: Late thanks.

Of course I would be one of the last to say thank you for the sentiment, but a hearty thank you it is! I originally joined up here looking for an outlet through which I could play DnD, knowing that this small town would offer little to no possibilities for me to do so with a regular table-top group. I did not expect to, but am proud to say I have, meet so many great people that I would go on to consider good friends. So here's to another great year here at RDI, and another heartfelt thank you!

I personally have been playing on Shadow Council, Troll Druid mostly. I've never been big on PVP myself so would be more of a detriment than help anyway, even if I were on your server. I focus on PVE, and since I play on RP servers for the most part, RP obviously.

Knowing his own wound could wait compared to the near-crippling gash the knight had taken, the scholarly cleric focused his mind and offering a silent prayer channeled one of his divine gifts into a different spell. (Basically converting Divine Favor to 1st level Cure spell (Don't have my PHB handy to look up name) Cure Light isn't it?)

Placing his hands on the wound Nick chants the words necessary to heal the wound of his companion. Once the spell had done all it could he set about administering to the other wounds they had all sustained. (Heal checks to dress wounds, remove bolt, pack deep wounds with the Tikkla if it seems they may need more than simple bandaging. I can't believe I did this, but I seem to have forgotten to buy a Healer's Kit, so unless someone else has bandages I guess I'll have to bandage with the local plants.)

Echo cleared his throat and mustered all the confidence and charisma he could as he replied to the slave that had addressed him, "While your gratitude is appreciated it is not necessary at all. As for the questions, I honestly do not feel that it is wise to stand around having a conversation when there may be more guards upon us at any time. We must continue on toward the Glassworks, you'll receive all the answers you need when we get to the safe house."

Echo hated to lie, but he could not tell the man that they had been sent to 'retrieve some stolen property' bearing a mark identical to the brands burned into so many of these poor people. Sometimes though lies had to be told for the greater good, goals had to be reached, lives had to be saved.

Subject: Question

Regarding injuries and magical healing, What effect if any does healing magic bear on the wounds? Like would a Cure spell help with the movement penalty imposed by the near ham-stringing, or the ac penalty I imagine (and largely assume) is imposed by the slice to Nick's shield arm? Or do these effects only help with the HP damage and not the more serious wounds that are inflicted?

As the bandit's blade sliced his arm the cleric winced in pain, and it was all he could to not drop the shield to the ground. Again he raised his morningstar, swinging it hard at the bandit, hoping for a more lethal strike against his foe this time.

After a quick look around to get his bearings, the half-elf sorcerer quickly began ushering the slaves away from the combat. It seemed his companions had things well in hand, and the best thing he could do was to keep things moving along as best as he could. After all, they were on a schedule, and failure really wasn't an option.

The normally cautious scholar defied his better judgment and rushed toward the nearest bandit, holding his shield in front of him as he charged. In the back of his mind he could hear himself yelling about how foolish this course of action was, but it was too late, the pressure of being on the run and being attacked again had pushed the cleric to a dark place. It was time to stand and act, no more backing down, no more hiding behind others, he had to seize the moment and take his life into his own hands.

(Assuming the foliage isn't too dense to allow a charge, then Nick will attempt to smash his blessed weapon into the foe. If the terrain prevents him from also getting his attack then he'll assume a defensive stance. At the very least it prevents any more sniping from cover, even if it does provoke at attack of opportunity)

Not to steal any thunder from Meri and her bouncing baby boy, but I would like to announce that at 7:35am CST on Thursday December 23rd, my glorious baby girl entered this big wide world. She is healthy and doing well, her and mommy are still in the hospital for a few more days, but its for the best.

They were originally planning to do the c-section on the 30th, but the baby had other plans. Despite her due date of January 10th she was a hefty 8 lbs 9 ounces, and was a good 20 inches long. She's eating like they want her to, and both baby and mommy are recovering nicely.

Without another word the half-orc piled up a plate with some of the steaming hot duck, some bread, cheese, and potatoes and proceeded to stuff his face like he hadn't eaten in days. His blatant disregard of even the most basic table manners was sure to disgust some of his companions, but he wasn't here to make friends, he was here on a job.

With his mouth full he grunted through bites of various food, "Dis stub id gud, ged sub." (This stuff is good, get some.)

Subject: Night Watch and Beyond

After administering to the wounds of his companions Nick found himself a place by the pile of extra firewood and took up his watch. Just in case something happened in the night he readied himself with the aid of various spells. (As detailed in the QA)

Thankfully his night passed uneventfully, interrupted only by the calls of nocturnal birds, the crackling of the flames, and the snores of his traveling companions. When the Gano awoke to relieve him for the next watch he sleepily made his way to the area he had previously set up his bedroll and removed his armor for the sake of comfort and a better night's rest.

As the night passed and his companions finally went about rousing them all from their sleep Nick immediately pulled out his travel journal and made personal notes of the day before, his night watch, and the dream he had had, as trivial as it had been. This had been his normal morning ritual since leaving his home, his way of paying homage to the watchful eyes of the Great Librarian, thanking him for the chance to gain further knowledge and the ability to travel another day in order to gain yet more knowledge. As he wrote he silently prayed, readying the divine gifts bestowed on him by his devout faith. (For the sake of simplicity, I'll just keep the spells on my character sheet prepped)

With his morning entry complete and his spells ready the cleric set about donning his armor and getting his pack and bedroll together before finishing off the rations he had started the previous night. (Will help anyone else don armor/accept help donning his to speed up the prep time)

As they finally got everything set to head out it was quickly determined that the Raslan would scout ahead a ways, followed by the Knight, himself, then the Gano. The trek was not easy as none of them were entirely familiar with the marshlands, a lot of time had to be spent finding ways over or around obstacles and avoiding the local wildlife. When they finally made it to a clearing he breathed a sigh of relief, glad to be clear of the thick undergrowth and spongy swamplands. That feeling of peace was brief though, as bells began to chime loudly through the area, they had tripped an alarm!

Quickly readying his Morningstar and casting Magic Weapon upon it he strapped his shield to his left forearm and prepared for what was certain to come. "Looks like we can expect some company soon, I suggest we get ready!"

Unable to control his natural reflexes, the Half-elf flinched as the arrow from the archer's volley just barely missed his hand. However he steeled his resolve and managed to get the ladder passed over to several of the slaves they were freeing and they managed to get it set up, making the evacuation that much smoother.

Now it seemed however that these archers needed to be dealt with before they turned this "property retrieval" mission into a massacre. But what could he do, what use was he against a small battalion of archers when his skills were best suited for avoiding direct conflicts, not putting a stop to them.

Realizing he was ill-suited for combat Echo decided it best to help the slaves, freeing the others to focus more of their own attention on the conflict at hand. He quickly helped the remaining slaves to the ladder, hoping to avoid any more casualties in the process. Once the slaves are clear of the roof, whether with help or on their own, he will make his own way down into the alley and attempt to lead the mob of scared people toward the designated drop point mentioned in their orders.

Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth the half-orc spoke up, "I don't know about the rest of ya, but I could go for a hot meal, maybe a steaming plate of mutton and potatoes, and a stout ale. You can only eat travel rations for so long."

The thief in him was already appraising the furniture in his mind, estimating the value of just this one room he couldn't help but come to the conclusion that this "Master" was loaded, and suddenly the payment he had received for the prison break seemed kinda small.

Echo, hearing the pleas of his Dwarven comrade, abandons his plan of breaking the window and rushes to grab the ladder as requested. Once he manages to get a good handle on it he passes it to the Dwarves and hopes that things work out with this course of action.

Silently pouting that the spell had not had the intended effect Echo gave into the obvious course of action. He again pulled his crossbow forward, and with the stock of the weapon tried to break the window he had been casting through, getting ready to roll to the side in case the shattering glass brought a volley of arrows toward his head.

((Trying to break the window, hoping not to get turned into a half-elf pin cushion. If I survive this course of action I intend to fire from cover at the archers, hoping to either keep this distracted or scatter them at the very least.))

Hiking for hours on end had never been Nick's idea of a good time, yet it was something he was growing used to having been out of the monastery and being on the run. The hours were long and grueling, the terrain unforgiving, but they had to push on if they intended to find the refugees they sought.

As the hours dragged on Nick occupied his mind by recalling stories he had heard during his travels. Tall tales that were stories of brave warrior venturing into swamps to slay dragons, fiends, trolls and other foes of varied origin. It filled his normally humble mind with pride to think that in ages to came people may recount this journey around campfires, pubs, and story rings across the nations if the girl they sought turned out to truly hold the secrets her brother claimed.

As the weary group approached the edge of the swamp Nick was the first to speak up, "If I may offer a suggestion, I believe it best that we set up camp for the time being. Not only would it be wiser to venture into the swamps fully rested, I know I'll be of much more use myself if I get a full 8 hours of sleep. That said, I will volunteer to take the first watch, assuming I'll be able to get the rest I need during the 2nd and possibly 3rd shift's watch. Also, I'm willing and able to administer aid to anyone who may require it."

((If it is needed, convert Sound Burst to Cure Moderate Wounds for healing on our large friend. During the course of the watch he'll also cast Magic Weapon on his Morning Star, Bull's Strength on himself, and Guidance; just to be prepared in case something happens during his watch.))

Subject: My 2 cents.

If it is getting to be dark, then camp would probably be a good idea. I know as a cleric I'll be of little use spell-wise without suitable rest and time to prepare before an encounter with any threat. I know I wouldn't be as useless or hopeless as say a wizard, but the buffs and other spell bonuses I can provide will still come in handy if I have access to them. That said, Nick is also a thinker, not a doer, he is likely to be exhausted already, physically drained. His order was an order of scholars and scribes more so than war priest and as such he is not in peak physical condition like the rest of the group.

If we do set up camp for the night, then Nick will provide healing to whoever may need it, since I noticed a mention that the gano may be in need of a heal before spells have to be re-prepared in the morning.

The hike had been long and tiring, but the half-orc was not one to complain about having to work, run, or do anything else. He had always prided himself on his strength and endurance, and this trek was no different. He couldn't help but curse under his breath as they fought through the thick undergrowth, more at the inconvenience than anything else though.

Instinctively he reached for his weapon when a voice from nowhere entered his mind, he valued his free will too much to abide strangers in his head. However when it became aware the voice was benign he loosened his grip on his flail and continued on down the path that had revealed itself in the moonlight. He had not said much of anything the entire time, and still said nothing as he trudged on, eager to reach their destination and find out just what he had been roped into.

Realizing that the current distraction was no longer a viable option Echario once again began chanting, moving his hands in the fluid way only one trained in the Arcane knew how. Once the spell was finished a blood curdling scream rang from the direction of the alley on the opposite side of the building that they were bringing the slaves down on. His hope was to draw at least some of the guards over to investigate the new scream, giving those below time to get somewhere before the entire troop was upon them.

((Ghost Sound again, we'll stick with your assumption of casting from inside, hiding within the window to avoid detection while we try to pull this off))

After volunteering his services for the rescue mission that had unfolded amidst the chaos Nick set out to retrieve his personal belongings from the spot he had left them upon settling in to listen to the stories told by the child-like Raslan. On his way he was stopped by an attendant of the matron of this camp, who handed him a bag and chuckled at his reaction to the foul odor. "I had heard of Tikkla, yes, but the stories did nothing to prepare me for this smell. I offer you many thanks for the medicine, and hope that we will not need to use it all."

Reaching his property he set about donning his armor and getting his weapons in place. As much as he loathed violence he knew that in this point in their history it was nearly unavoidable and it was better to be prepared than caught unaware. He found a suitable scrap with which to tie the Tikkla bag shut so it wouldn't spill and placed it carefully into his pack.

He then rummaged through the pack and pulled forth his journal, pen, and ink and set about to writing about the events that had just unfolded, all the while saying a silent prayer to The Great Librarian, asking his watchful eyes to be with this group and thanking him for this chance to gain more knowledge, especially knowledge as valuable as a way to stop the Flash Fever.
