Topic: Realms of Twilight - A Journey Begins
Subject: Half-Orc Ferocity

Gronz winced as the guard's blade sliced through his skin, but the half-orc was not one to be easily deterred by a simple wound. With a violent glint in his eyes Gronz swung again with his flail, hoping to connect this time, eager to return the harm the guard had visited upon him. He silently thanked the powers that be that the majority of this group of prisoners had the guts to stand and fight even with only manacles to fight with, the help would be needed if they hoped to survive this jail break.

Subject: Echo searches

Keeping his crossbow ready, and his eyes and ears open, should the need to fire arise Echario joined the dwarf in looking for the brand they were sent to find, or anything else that may be interesting or noteworthy. He checked crates and floor lines, knocking on crates to see if any were hollow, possibly dummy crates hiding a secret room or passage into another storage area.

Subject: tools

I would like to point out that the orc did in fact pick up his tools after the guard had closed the door after they were nearly discovered, it is in a post, sorry to derail plans already made.

QUOTE:
With the main door once again shut Gronz whispered, "We have to move quickly, no more questions, just cooperate!" He then rushed to get his tools from the cell he had tossed them into, such things were far too valuable to just leave lying around.

Subject: Echo

Knowing the importance of keeping a few tricks up his sleeve Echo readies and loads his crossbow, creeping ever closer to the man raising the alarm, all the while keeping his pointed ears open to the sounds of further trouble.

((Not a great post, I know, but how does one make the loading of a crossbow interesting anyway?))

With an annoyed grumble Gronz releases the chains and rushes toward the guard with his blade drawn, readying his flail as part of the move action, swinging it toward the guard. ((Charge if there was enough room to do so))

Subject: Echo eases in as carefully as possible

Knowing very well that he was no sneak like the halfling Echo crept forward ever slowly, keeping enough distance between himself and the halfling so that perhaps he would not draw attention before attention need be drawn. Should the need arise, Echo was prepared to cast Magic Missle against any guard that needed to be incapacitated in a timely manner. ((Preferably a target not engaged if at all possible, but that is entirely up to who is within range of the spell when the need arises to cast it))

Subject: Many apologies

The half-orc shrugged with a muffled grunt then whispered, "Let us hope then that it does not come to blows. I'm strong, but I don't know what I could do alone against the entire prison staff." With that he grabbed the chain of the "prisoner" closest to him and pulled them toward the door, gently but with enough force that if they had it in their minds to resist that they would think twice. He opened the door and with a grunt and a chuckle he addressed the guard(s) on the other side, "And you thought I couldn't handle handle the lot of them myself! The very thought that they would dare try to stand up to an armed guard, especially one of my size, if laughable!" This of course was a ploy to get the other guards to pay as little attention as possible and hopefully allow the "escort" to pass through as uneventfully as possible. ((If no guards then I suppose ignore that part.))((Bluff/Intimidate, whatever may be applicable))

((My apologies to everyone involved, I have been working insane hours and stressed over some personal issues, as such my creative thought process has been rather strained and I'm sorry to have held things up this long.))

Subject: All aboard the plotline railway!

The various split groups find themselves eventually converging in the center of town, the only member not accounted for being Rath, who remains in the shadows, watching and waiting. (Too much stress to be overly creative, sorry)

As the group converges they are greeted by 2 figures, a well dressed portly man who introduces himself as the mayor, and a tall muscled man who is introduced as Sheriff Green. The two men swap clearly surprised looks, you're not entirely what they expected, but they make no comments regarding it. Rather they just get straight to business, "As you've heard, we've been plagued by thieves lately, they seem to be based out of the forest outside the town, and as of yet we have no witnesses, no leads, and no idea how many there even are at this point. We'll answer what questions we can, but you're more or less on your own for this one."

Okay, so the updates are going to be a bit later than originally hoped for, I've been under a lot of stress here lately with work and some personal issues. I'll try to get something planned up and posted when I can.

I'm about to pull a 50 hour work week, so my time is limited and what time I manage to make is going to be spent resting up. I will attempt to get an update up as soon as possible, but please be patient and thank you in advance for understanding.

Leaving one hand on the hilt of his sword Bran raised a finger to his lip and gave her a simple "shhh". He didn't think he'd have to explain to her that the pool of blood she was laying in was her own since she was also covered in it. Besides, she'd need to rest after an injury that severe, no point in throwing her into a panic.

Pacing along the side of the building as they waited for the halfling Echo couldn't help but get impatient and wonder what was taking so long. "Where is he, he better not have gotten himself captured, hurt, or worse. We really shouldn't have let the little man run off by himself."

((Just a couple things, K-B drug the boy the camp with her, there is no need to go chasing off after him, the book has been put away since before you regained consciousness so Faroak wouldn't know anything about it anyway, I misread your post and did not see you mention passing out, sorry. K-B has apparently already been healed, so chasing off after a kid who is already in camp with us isn't really necessary.))

With his cane laid across his lap sitting there he puts his hands to it and closes his eyes, focusing his will on the desired effect. As he focused the cane began to glow and its form changed to that of a finely crafted longsword, ready to be raised in Kari-Bliss's defense if need be.

Subject: Gronz's plan

Pulling the first set of manacles off his shoulder he starts toward the first 2 prisoners, offering only a brief warning, "You're going to have to trust me, I have a plan believe it or not." He then proceeds to very loosely fasten the cuff of one manacle to the wrist of the rogue who had picked the second door and fastened the other to the wrist of the woman he had been sharing his cell with. "Try not to let these fall off, they're intentionally loose in case things go south from here." Satisfied with the appearance of the prisoners being "chained" together he then proceeds to attach the other female to the first and finally the other male to her, attaching them all in a line, leaving one set of manacles un-used as it were. After a brief thought he adds, "Any of you going to be capable of fighting without a weapon?"

Okay, so he's a hobgoblin, my mistake.
In all fairness, the way I read it you were casting on every living thing you passed, but thanks for clarifying that.
I need to know where everyone is heading and what your course of action seems to be. The group is split, so I need to know who is with who, who is doing what, and where they are planning to do it.

Subject: And now a word from our sponsors

I'll allow little NPC interactions like that, so long as everyone understands there may be consequences for every action. As Isaac Newton once said, for each action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Technically, the Mayor petitioned the guild for help. He however did not request your roving ball of chaos be sent specifically. So your presence still comes as a shock even to someone who may have paid for services. You are all more than aware that there are much more "normal" (PHB races) groups that could have been sent to handle the situation, the mayor simply assumed they'd get one such group. So what if he expected the worst they'd have to deal with was a half-orc, not sneaky evil (stereotypically speaking) Drow, a brutish Hobgoblin, and some guy who is clearly demon-blooded running around casting who knows what kinda spells on the populace.

The way things are going now I'm really busy with work and such, so an update will be a little slow, but I'll get something up when I can. That said, feel free to carry on with the little RP interactions, but please keep it simple and non-violent.

I know some of you more chaotic types might be of the bent to burn down the forest to find the thieves in it, but killing their targets to spite the thieves does not constitute finishing the contract, please keep that in mind.

"If they want to flip out, I might as well do something for them to wig out about." I don't think I have to remind you that Khet is Lawful. Evil yes, but still Lawful.

Bran stared in awe at what happened before his eyes. He had never seen anything like that in his life. He chose however not to question it and instead took up a vigil next to Kari-Bliss's bloodied body and kept his eyes and ears open for the sounds of incoming trouble.

The town is what the DMG classifies as a Small Town, so roughly looking at a population of 1060, 85% human, some scattered half-humans (elf and orc) and the occasional demi-human (elf, dwarf, halfling, etc) that has set up shop or moved in, whether out of exile, a desire to live among the humans, or out of necessity to open a business and prosper.

The Red Oak, a popular tavern, is run by one such Dwarf, who moved here after an adventuring career in order to open a business and settle down. Elkas Bronzefoot runs a tight business, having no tolerance for trouble makers and the like. (I included this business solely because I know several of you will eventually migrate there, looking for either a drink or some information.) If you want details on other businesses then by all means ask.

"What happened, What happened?! Are you ******* BLIND, its rather obvious if you just look, she's had her throat ripped open by that wild child that came out of the woods! Bran was clearly very irritated with what he considered an extremely stupid and pointless question. He rose slowly to his feet, using his cane as leverage and made his way over to Kari-Bliss to see if he could determine how bad the wounds were.

((I know its short, but it gives the group an opportunity to act in case they don't trust me 100% And why would they, they have no information, and as far as they know I'm actually a guard.. albeit a guard who had to pick the cell door and let them pick the other as well))

I'm not extending the tweak to spell like abilities granted by feats or race. Like I explained, the reasoning behind my inclusion of Domain Spells in the tweaking was that they were gifts from some divine patron for your extreme faith (even if that "divine patron" is demonic in nature). Spell like Abilities gained by feats are more the result of focused study and training.

Subject: Update

The ride to Oakcrest passed rather uneventfully, 20 hours after leaving you arrive in town only a couple hours after the sun has risen again. Those of you who managed to get some sleep during the trip are stiff but well rested, however the clerics will need to take some time to pray for spells, so questioning the sheriff and town's folk will have to wait just a bit. As soon as you begin to pile out of the wagon you can feel the tension in the air and the wary stares being cast in your direction, people here are clearly made nervous by your very presence. Once the last of you has exited the wagon the driver cracks the reins and the cart heads off in the direction it came from, back toward the Citadel to report that you have arrived and the job should be underway soon.

((This gives you a chance to change some spells now with the tweaks. We're going to assume that the clerics take care of this task before leaving the wagon, those of you who don't have to prepare spells are more than welcome to pile out before then. Wulf, don't forget to do your exercises and preps as well, which you'll obviously have to exit the wagon to do. I'd like at least a sentence or two from the clerics and swordsage regarding how they go about preparing. Don't be afraid to back post, in fact I encourage character interaction and such.))

Yes Drago, I'm (for now) allowing limitless access to either domain spell of all levels. If I decide that is too much power I may limit them to 3/day each or something like that though. Especially since I just noticed that one of your domain spells is Limited Wish. As long as I don't see too much abuse of the power by any of the casters then I'll leave the tweaks as they stand, but if I feel the power is being abused then there will be much DM Smiting to be done.
