Topic: chili sauce - a cooking inquiry
Subject: chili

I'm with Ody on this one, I hear chili and think chili-dogs, or the "soup" he mentioned. Then again I am in Texas, and chili here is as varied as it is anywhere else if not more so.

I do know that some of the Mexican restaurants use a thin "chili sauce" for enchiladas and the like, that may be more what you are seeking, but I have no recipe for it. I know chili powder is usually key though.

Subject: Echario

Echario had made a half-hearted attempt to ask some of his past companions from other jobs about the brand on their latest orders. As he had expected from the start he learned nothing, just as he had expected; if the brand had been well-known the client probably would not have included it, nor would he have needed the aid of a guild rather than local law enforcement. Echario made a quick stop into the mess hall to grab a bite to eat before heading back into the meeting room the dwarves had wanted to meet in after the allotted time had passed.

I suppose since I failed to mention what Echario was going to do then I missed out. I guess he'll have been off doing his own thing, or perhaps just found nothing at all.

Subject: Echario

In his usual dramatic manner Echario looked at the halfling that had addressed him and simply nodded then did a flourishing bow as if to say, "Why yes, I am, nice to know you're heard of me." Nothing was ever said, nothing needed to be said as far as he was concerned.

He listened quietly to the plan the two dwarves had proposed and shrugged mentally (not physically, nothing about his posture really changes). He had thought the same thing himself, this job seemed a bit like a job for one of the more established Thieves' Guilds, yet it had been given to them. He made a mental note that this could very well be a trap set up by one of the larger guilds, but then again he thought everything was a trap, it helped him stay alive and prepared.

To start out, its not what you think, there are no naked nerds anywhere to be seen. I just thought I would share a link to this webcomic my dad turned me on to during a family reunion this past weekend. I've only gotten to the strips from January '06, but is has been good so far. Plenty of gamer/geek humor I'm sure we can all relate to I'm sure.

Subject: This doesn't look very promising

As the last person entered Echo made his own mental notes on each of them, focusing mostly on supposed flaws he noticed in his usually over-critical manner.

This first one, looks like the type that can't be trusted, I'll have to keep an eye on him...

As if one dwarf wasn't enough to slow us down there are two of them, one never shuts up and the other doesn't seem to talk for himself at all, I may need to look into some earplugs...

Another little person, and a halfling at that. I'll have to keep an eye on him too, they tend to have sticky fingers...

Great, this one is so awkward, seems to have no experience at all. Just what we need, a wet behind the ears kid...

As usual he made no gestures to greet them, nor acknowledged the greetings offered by the others.

Welcome to the Inn, jump right in and see what you can learn. Since you are new to Forum play you may want to check out the Red Wyrm School RP. The game focuses on teaching people both the basics of DnD 3.5 and forum play. Its a little slow at times, but summers are pretty much our down time around here I've noticed.

Don't mind the loonies, they're actually running the show around here. Keep a towel handy, you'll likely find out why soon enough, and keep any food you're carrying out of the reach of the Grugg, we are not to feed him.

Topic: Monster's Paradise
Subject: Finally a longer post for Kal

Kal had always hated having to pass the Arena, the smell of blood and the piercing screams that could be heard even over the feral cheers of the crowd always made her sick deep in the pit of her stomach. She would have loved to just be able to rush in and stop the madness, destroy the Arena, and free the slaves, but she was no idiot, she knew to try such a feat was suicide and she had a job to do here and it would be done despite having to pass the Arena.

She headed to the one place she knew would trade the goods she had and not ask too many questions about where they came from, the Sewer Rat's Blackmarket. She hated the sewers, she hated the Wererat that called himself the Sewer Rat, and she hated the shady figures that did business with him. However she would continue to deal with him out of pure necessity and pretend to like it.

She made her way quickly to the alleyway that housed the sewer entrance the Sewer Rat called home and climbed down the ladder, trying not to gag on the horrible stench. Once she was off the ladder she pulled back her hood exposing her lavender scaled head, knowing the Rat would recognize her as a regular customer he approached his counter and greeted him as usual, "Always nice to smell you again my friend, I have some more items that may interest you, I hope you will give me a fair price as you have in the past." The hideous fence smiled, showing his rotting yelling teeth and hissed a greeting, "Always good to see you in my humble hole Vorel, what can I take off your hands this fine day?"

Fiddling through her various pockets Kal pulled out a handful of Old World coins, an Ivory Statuette she had lifted during her last visit into town, and a silk spell component pouch embroidered with silver threads. "I trust an upstanding and fine businessman such as yourself can appreciate the value of these items and give me a fair amount of credits to spend up top on things I need."

((I never mentioned it before, but when dealing with most of the citizens of Gleech she uses the alias Vorel Kethend, draconic for Beautiful Gem.))

First things first, Welcome to the Red Dragon Inn, I assume since you found us you have at least a slight interest in Roleplaying, and there is plenty of that to be found here of just about every genre. You can usually find a game in the Recruitment forum. That said this is supposed to be a family friendly environment, so we try to keep things pg-13.

As for blogging, as far as I am aware the blog is for staff use. I don't really know though to be perfectly honest.

This may not be my place as I am not a mod or anything, but I know for a fact your avatar is a bit on the large side and will likely be removed when a staff member is on, so you may consider changing it.

For Echo's clothing, since all I really said was oddly dressed, think Hennet, the iconic sorcerer for 3.5 but less straps and buckles and more loosely flowing desert friendly fabrics and scarves of various colors tied here and there for various reasons.

As a side note for the rest of you, Echario has a reputation among the guild as a cold loner, making no friends and alienating most everyone around him. For a lot of people the first time they even hear him speak is when he is casting a spell. But deep down beneath the cold facade he really is a big softy, loyal through and through to the few people that prove themselves worthy of his friendship. Don't expect him to open right up, but don't let his silence discourage you from trying to interact.

Subject: Yes, there is an Echo in this room..

Leaned against the walls of the small meeting room stood a strangely dressed Half-Elf, his hair pulled back into a loose ponytail. He had arrived early, well before the appointed time of meeting in order to watch as his newest team mates arrived. He was just starting to get used to the last group he had been travelling with, and as usual he was moved again, to a group he did not know and did not trust. He was beginning to think that the other groups had been requesting he be replaced, that perhaps even they did not want him around. This was not the time for such thoughts though, there was business to attend to, money to be made, and secrets to be learned.

And so he stood there, silent and motionless, watching as the others began to arrive, making no move to greet them or introduce himself. He was the one most of the guild whispered of in passing, the one few knew and even fewer trusted, the loner they all knew as Echo, and he already had a reputation as a stone-cold, untrusting, introvert, just the way he liked it. Only those willing to look past his harsh exterior would ever be trustworthy, potential friends.

I think I will attempt to find a way to make time for this, I looked over the SRD and LOVE what they have done with the Sorceror, so I think I'm going to play a Fey-blooded Half Elf Sorceror. I do have to work tonight and tomorrow though, so I may not be able to get a sheet to you for a couple days, if you get other people willing to play before I get one in feel free to let them in.

PM me any other info I may need on the race and class as pertinent to your campaign setting.

Kal always did enjoy the treatment at the gates, and at times let it go to her head, this would be one of those time especially after witnessing the treatment the Devils had received.

Looking the ugly guard up and down she gave an annoyed humph and addressed him crossly, "It doesn't matter how I come to the gates, does it? I am here from my native plane ((plane of earth, since she is Amethyst-blooded)), come to hunt relics of the old world and expand my hoard. I will forgive your disrespect this once, and only this once!"

With that she made her way to the front of the line, basking in the utter dismay displayed by the other travellers waiting or getting turned away. Arriving at the gate she waited for the usual business that took place upon all her visits to the city.

Kalrissa
Eastern Forest around Gleech

Kal watched Terral walk away for a moment, and once she was sure he was not watching she slipped into the dense cover of the forest to do what she did best, stay out of sight. Certain he would not attempt to follow her again if he could not find her she continued through the forest toward the hellish city she and her mother had escaped all those years ago. The trek was rather uneventful once she had gotten rid of the boy, only the occasional forest creature running scared crossed her hidden path, or at least thats all she ever noticed. Once she neared the outskirts of the forest she left the denser cover and returned to the clearer path so as not to draw too much suspicion by sneaking around. What she saw when she arrived at the gate was not at all what she had expected.

Zeph Blighthunter
Red Dragon Inn

As the small child brought even more attention to herself and them by association, the first thing he noticed was not the child herself, but Sintan's reaction. From her spot on the floor he could hear his companion whimper slightly and give the little girl a very curious look. Confused at the wolf's reaction Zeph finally looked over toward Kiirnon and the child, and almost immediately felt a very unfamiliar sensation, like most Goblins Zeph had an iron stomach from eating just about anything they could catch, but for some reason he stomach turned as he looked at this child, and all at once the room seemed to turn ever so slightly. Something was not right, something about this child was not as it seemed. Zeph decided it would probably be best to wait and see how this played out rather than cause a larger scene.

But it is safe to say that this seemingly human child makes a wild animal uneasy, a wild animal who just finished mauling several kobolds earlier that very day. I don't suppose next she'll be telling us her name is Claudia will she?

What is Sintan's reaction to this child, because most myths and fantasy tales make it a big point how sensitive animals are to paranormal-esque situations, and if my initial assumptions are even remotely close then the Wolf's reaction would only serve to further worry me if it was a negative one.

I'm going off the assumption that by the time Zeph notices the child Kiirnon will have already reacted, thus drawing attention to the child and himself. And I would assume that a simple Int check would let anyone afflicted by the vertigo know that something is not quite right.

Zeph Blighthunter
Red Dragon Inn Dining Area
Day 3 - Week 1

Zeph had held his tongue that afternoon, both when the new instructor and the dancer had commented on the test they had just finished. Not that he would've gotten a word in as it were with the fevered banterings of the Elf-kin. Instead he chose to make mental notes of what was said, and walked back toward the school with Sintan, taking it slowly to be certain she was going to be okay. As he lagged behind the main group he thought he overheard an invite to dinner, and decided that sounded like a great idea, Sintan would surely appreciate some fresher meat than the dried rations she had had to endure since their stay at the School.

He took the remainder of the day to clean the blood from Sintan's fur and got himself prepared for the night ahead of them. He would swallow his foolish pride and even eat with his fellow students for once rather than off to the side alone. He arrived at the Inn that evening, hood drawn up to cover his face more out of habit than necessity now, and found a spot at the same table as Ion, motioning for Sintan to lie on the floor out of the way so she wouldn't get her tail stepped on.

For a moment he just looked across the table at Ion, running over all the comments made after the test, both by the instructor and by Ion himself. He then swallowed back the lump in his throat, pulled back his hood and addressed Ion finally, "I have thought long and hard about the comments that were made regarding my performance today, and I have a couple points I would like to make. First and foremost, while Sin may be a loyal companion to me she is very much a wild animal and as such does as any wild animal would do. She assessed a threat in that clearing and acted, not on my command, and not as I would've ideally planned it. On that note I have been working with her, trying to teach her that we are better when we move as one."

(Assuming the others have begun to arrive as I am speaking)
Looking to the other students he adds, with the slightest hint of respect in his voice, "I would like to commend my fellow students for jumping to my defense when it was pointed out that I was unharmed while Sin was so badly hurt. You have my thanks."

On a side not, Steel, Sintan is a she. I know its probably more force of habit than anything to use masculine pronouns, so I'm not really worried about it.
