Subject: My 2 cents

Run a game because you want to run a game. Don't do it for Wyrmy. If your doing it out of a sense of duty or honor well then if things get busy and you have to drop the game or slow the update, or a player has to quit than it will be rough. It would be horrible to have to let a memorandum game fizzle out due to inactivity. And the harsh truth is that most games on the Inn fizzle out due to inactivity of either players or DM.

He has made his mark on the Inn and it's one that doesn't require a lot of extra stuff. He was a great guy and one of the few Innmates that won't be forgotten.

So, DM a game if you want, and don't if you don't. It sounds to me like running a game online should be about the last thing on your mind right now. Give it a month or so, then decide if you really want to take on starting a forum game (a big step for a first time online DM) or if you were just feeling a bit down and lost because of Wyrmy.

Inheritance was a good game, but I would suggest either share the notes he had written to let his players know what was in store - or simply lock them away and leave the cliffhanger as an eternal cliffhanger.

While no less tragic, knowing that it was indeed our Wyrmy puts a certain context on his passing. I was a huge fan of his work here at the Inn, having played in his Inheritance game and his new upcoming one.

He was truly a great writer, a great DM, and just an overall great guy.

I just can't find the words, but suffice to say the Inn was made a better place for having known him.

Forgive me for asking, but I do remember Wyrmsting mentioning that Utan was his brother. Is Wyrmsting your dear Uncle Jay?

I am sorry for your loss, but perhaps a confirmation on his screen name here can help us better write the Eulogy.

I created a Demilich character that had an ongoing feud with a Mind Flayer Brain Lord. The party got caught up in the middle of it, and ended up using both the psychic nullifying artifact (I forget the name, the giant ring), and spheres of annihilation, not to mention a homebrew artifact. They started at lvl 4, leveled up to about 8, then hit a "woosh" moment where they went back in time to when the Demilich first became a lich, and when they got back they had jumped to level 15. Finally they entered a psychotic realm created by the Mind Flayer where they each acquired a template to bring them to ECL 17.

After they slew the Mind Flayer, they finally met the Demilich in person, who in the centuries since they last met (in the past) has deteriorated to nothing more than a skeletal finger (or toe, they couldn't tell). His power was immense, and he slaughtered the party's cohort (they were all lvl 20 now) instantly and demanded they swear loyalty.

Two characters knelt before him after failing will saves, while the other two refused. He gave the order to slay their two former companions, after which the psion ended the charm with one of the artifacts and they dueled the Demilich.

They found his phylactery... a box full of papers. Sheet music and an old ocarina.

The Demilich? My old drug dealing bard from Wardrums in Sendria, hosted right here at the Inn a few years ago

Topic: Star Wars: Dark Masques
Subject: get going!

It was only a matter of time now... as soon as the ships engines fired up, they were gone. Hopefully everyone made it on the ship by then.

The roar of the ship engines should alert them nicely. It was up to Wrrlwarr to get them going.

Meanwhile, Awvoor managed the gun turrent with surprising effectiveness. It wasn't a good idea to be targetting the cat while lockedin a dual with the Jedi, but he did keep an eye open for a good break in the action and that perfect shot. If it came, great, if not than he was content to pick off the other remaining bogeys, preferably the ones nearest to his ship.

Begin Force Sensitive has its perks to be sure, for instance he could tell when people were lying, or do little tricks to impress new clients. But it also had times when he wished he could just turn it off. The duel between Ben and the Sith was causing huge ripples in the Force and giving Awvoor a migraine. It was enough to be tempted to just shoot them both...

But he was above that type of bantha-herder behavior.

(OOC: Firing at the closest droid to the ship, or to any of the other baddies, or lastly at the cat if I can get a good wide open shot or for some reason he drops Ben.)

Topic: Need some help in designing an encounter....
Subject: welcome

First off welcome to the inn! Hope you hang around and become a regular member!

On to your question - sounds to me like a perfect candidate for the book "Heroes of Horror" from 3.5. It's one of my favorite books, and has all sorts of tips for creepy encounters not covered by the standard rules. You might even be able to find a suitable monster in there.

Also - in case you don't have any luck there, check out the "Fiend of Possession" from the Fiend Folio 3e.

Things are getting serious... time to get going.

Awvoor grabbed the PA system and keyed it up. Wrrlwarr code 5 - H! Between the two of them it meant one thing: We need to get out of here and fast. The wookie responded with a roar and ran to fire up the ships engines.

Hopefully everyone else would get the cue when they did.

Meanwhile the Ithorian tried his best to use the ships targetting systems to take down any unattended bogies for his newfound companions. He didn't want to take on the Dark Jedi - in his experience 'helping' often meant getting in the Jedi's way.

His mind was going crazy with the amount of Force energy here - no need to make it worse by getting involved.

Subject: updates

My new schedule has me working three 12-hour shifts in a row, then one day off, then a fourth 12 hour day, then 2 days off. So depending on when the updates hit - I will probably not be able to post, as I don't do much but sleep and eat between shifts.

If that's going to slow the game down too much feel free to drop me and NPC/auction off my guys. Wookie slave trade ftw.

(sorry posted this to the main game - I moved it)

Edit: that being said - I'll have a post sometime in the next 6 hours or so after I get some chores done. I also work 1700-0500 Eastern, so I'm usually up odd hours (in this time zone at least).

Sorry I missed this the first go-round. Welcome to the Inn!

Let me echo what was said earlier. We have a lot of great DMs here, and you'll soon get to know their styles. There are three or four games now that I believe are trying to get players to start up - you might want to check those out.

Awvoor knew trouble was coming. Likely Jedi Ben was feeling the same odd feeling, and could probably put it into words - but the lay Ithorian simply knew one thing: He had a bad feeling about this.

But never did he imagine a Dark Jedi would cut off their escape.

Though he had only met a Dark Jedi once before, they met on terms of business partners, not as enemies on the field of battle. Awvoor heard stories of their ruthlessness in battle - and even worse stories of what happens to those that are captured. Awvoor knew first-hand the powers of the Force - it can do terrible things to a mind. The Dark Jedi are the only ones in the galaxy willing to use the Force in such horrible ways.

They were leaving. Now.

"You heard him Wrrlwarr. We want nothing to do with them."

(OOC: Full run to the ship for both)

You can find the old thread right where it should be. Happy April 1st!

The last one was getting to be a bit too clumsy and was starting to distort the main page whenever someone posted to it. Grugg and I decided, as the two most active staff members, to delete it and start over at a more reasonable size.

Alacrity was going to delete it soon anyway.

So here it is again!

The old record was 317 pages and 4742 posts.

Edit: Here's the rules:

"This is a very simple concept. If you have the last post in this topic, you win.

So post!"

"Does it really matter what's on it? The Mandals want it and thus we're dead if we stay. Let's get out of here and then figure out what's going on." Awvoor noted as he watched the droid work.

"Is anyone seriously hurt?" He asks the party. Some of them had taken a pretty nasty blaster bolt.
