It didn't happen to me, but I was DMing

Taught my players two valuable lessons:

1) Just because the cloak radiates strong transmutation doesn't mean it's a cloak of resistance +5.

2) A lethal cloak of poison radiates strong transmutation...

Although, in Adrian's defense, we were warned far ahead of time that there were other Reds here. Adrian isn't the only mage around

No hard as usual. Although I apologize in advance when Adrian finally snaps, Max might be the first on his list

hmmm... nothing.

Adrian turns a bit around the room, picking up slight signals from everyone, pausing briefly to consider studying them, but decides against it. He had business to attend to... Still he passed his line of sight over everyone, just to make sure.

Strange...

He scoured his mind frantically to think what could be causing these strange signals, although his search was a bit haphazard. Finally his eyes set on the other caster, who looked to be gearing up for his own recon mission.

"Be cautious, Jal." he said with the first hint of co-operation shown towards the Spellbinder. "I can't pick it up exactly, but this place seems to pulse with magic. I don't like it when I don't know what's happening..."

And then Arien decided to have a fit of his own. This was bad.

“What is this?” He says but his voice sounds odd - higher pitched, “Two places? How odd. Twins? Oh, this is delicious!”

"DAMN!" Valentine cursed as he aimed his detection beam at the knight. "It's some sort of enchantment, but the bastard is smart. He's not holding it long enough for me to get ahold of what exactly he's doing. Restrai..."

too late

Char was already wrapping him up in a bear hug.

"No sense dispelling it..."

Valentine readies a plan B.

He's strong, but Arien outweighs him by quite a bit, especially in that armor. Char on the other hand...

Adrian quickly grabbed a pinch of powdered iron from his component pouch and hurled it up in the air. He began weaving his hands aimed at the ranger.

"You probably don't need this, Char, but I can't take that chance. Arien could be enchanted for some time to come. This might tingle a bit..."

(OOC: Enlarging Char )

This place is revolting. The scent of pine, oil and forced cleanlyness added naught but more vileness to this area. Was this simply a spell by the Reds to throw their senses off? Adrian knew he has such power, so obviously the incapable Reds had it.

Valentine was characteristically calm and collected, with an air of arrogance seemingly palpable. Something about the chance to drive his sword through one of his former collegues drove him to continue. He allowed the more skilled ahead of him, Dapple and Char, to scour the area for threats.

He allowed the more bulky ahead of him, Maximus, to forge ahead and soak up any danger.

He allowed the more defensive, protective, Kilgrim to silence their movements. All the while Adrian was preparing himself, for the chance to lash out and deal some revenge a long time in the making to these evil people. He drew upon the very discipline that was unwillingly forced upon him, to keep from launching a full out assult against the inhabitants of this keep. He had to wait.

Adrian reached into his pack, and grabbed Killer, seeing what his reaction would be to the smell.

Finally, his time to shine neared. Well, almost.

"'Fore we go knockin' down da doors, makin' a rucko', need t' ask da tree o' yous if'n ya 'ave any scryin' magic t' see beyon' da door." Char paused, blinked, and then said, "Well, do ya?"

"Reconissence was never my forte. I do have the means to detect any traces of the Reds beyond there. One moment."

Valentine sits Killer upon his shoulder, and begins weaving his hands in a manner he has not done very often. Surely Jal and possibly others would understand what he is doing. He plans to aim the invisible cone of detect magic through the door, wall, roof, and any other area he can in the time of his spell's duration.

Although my Donkey Kong T-shirt is the highlight of my wardrobe.

Either that or my "Got Deutsch?" shirt.

I'm too unattractive to do the whole birthday suit thing. Which reminds me, I need to find a gym lol

This was truly turning into a great mess. Arien's sister, eh? Were it anyone else, it would be easy to write it off as a simple mistake on her part. Maybe she had joined the Empire... it wouldn't be the first time someone with a bit of arcane power ran off to try and find answers in the Imperial archives. She would only see dissapointment and sadness, and that was if the slaver-like style of education they forced upon their own was not too much for her to bear.

But, if she was anything like Arien, she was more likely captured.

Either way, she had to be rescued. The Empire was no place for real wizards. The reds only cared about puppets.

(OOC: later that night)

Situations went from bad to worse, it seems. Talas had a sudden change of heart regarding the small spaces. He flipped through his mental storage capacity, suddenly cursing himself for only learning how to enlarge things. There was one way... however.

"Talas, if it would put your heart at ease, I do have the means to 'grease the gears' a bit. Surely you have seen what happens if you line your sprite with butter first?"

Going over the patters and symbols for a grease spell in his head, he is interrupted by a wave, no a surge of power. It's as if he could no anything! Frantically he tried to remember what that wish scroll he once stole from his superior looked like. He knew he could cast it!

Then it was gone. Just like that.

His eyes seemed to meet with Jal's.

What did that street rat do? Is he trying to empower me so I will respect him? Pity him? Someone should have told him how long it takes to cast a 'real' spell. He barely gave me time to think about what I was doing!

Obviously the utterly incapable Reds didn't conjure this up. That leaves Arien's sister and him. Judging by the look on his face... he is either studying my reaction to his trick or...

"I have never before felt anything like it... mayhaps we should proceed as if we have been made known to someone…or something."

Maybe not. Damn! What is this! Could this be the divination magic I heard of? Maybe... he's right.

"Jal... is... probably... ... ... ... right. I do know of great diviners who are able to sweep massive tracts of land to see and hear things, but I do not know what being the target of such spells feels like. The Reds are obviously to incapable to perform such a stunt, however I would suggest we act as if we have been outed. You never know which mercenary wizards they have on their payroll...

Now... about that grease, Talas?"
