When's it due? How much time do you have? books.google.com is a good choice. I am 99% sure twilight of the idols is on there, and 90% sure Plato's Republic is on there.

2e is still the superior system for online gaming, IMHO. I grew up playing 2e in middle school and picked up 3e in High School.

But 4e has a different overall feel to it that you can't quite fully appreciate without a group of friends sitting around a table with a battle map. It plays more like a wargame than past editions, but still has out of battle mechanics (and areas for straight RP-improv) to give that classic D&D feel.

Don't listen to these guys dis 4e. It's just not very forum-friendly due to the more wargaming feel to it.

But there are plenty of 2e, 3.5e, and Star Wars games going on, plus plenty of others.

You might want to also consider jumping into a free-form game to get used to forum-style gaming.

Welcome to the Inn!

Are we allowed to Google it? Cause if so that makes for a boring game. If not that makes for a tough game.

I think they mean using *your* opinions doesn't count. Because anything you gather is going to be opinion.

I would just go the library and check out every philosophical book you can on humanity. I recommend Plato's Republic, Nietzche's Twilight of the Idols, and Descartes's Discourse on the Method of Rightly Conducting the Reason, and Searching for Truth in the Sciences

Those three should give you everything you need to comprehend humanity.

And of course if you happen to speak Greek, French or German - read them in the original languages.

Maybe if we had the exact wording of the prompt it would help.

Then you need to walk into your philosophy class, rip up his or her teaching certificate, and walk out because he or she is a complete and utter moron.

You're going to be looking a long time if you want absolute certainty. Every philosopher since Socrates has tried to figure that out.

Once Nietzsche came into the picture - EVERYTHING was thrown out. We can't even be certain we *are* human.

So there you go. If your teacher wants only absolute certainties - turn in a blank paper.

Edit: on second thought - you can't even trust that the paper is blank. According to Descartes you can't trust your senses because you can't know for certain they are correct.

Sounds fine to me. I missed this last round because March is a record breaking month at work every year. Things should settle down now.

You two are rough. I personally wish more college kids had exposure to hardcore philosophy before they got there.

Too many dumb kids in college today. We need smarter high school curriculum.

As to you Almerin - cynical much?

I want to expand on what you said. The fact that we *can* choose to life inferior or animal like lives instead of having it forced upon us like animals is a testament to what I said earlier.

I gave a philosophical speech once about how humans ought to follow the Jedi Code because it gives us a greater purpose and a sense of community that puts us above animals.

To me God set us aside for a purpose. Being a human means fulfilling that purpose - even if that purpose is just to live life as more than an animal.

I believe man has a body, mind and a soul, whereas animals simply have a body and mind, or some just a body. Somewhere along the line a few million years ago, some of the smarter apes "woke up" so to say and became "human." Those first humans were your Adam and Eve. See kids? Who said Genesis and Darwin weren't compatible?

To find out what defines a soul and what happens to it before or after mind and body die, just choose your philosophic or religious text of choice.

Good job there, twilek. Big talk for such a poor performance.

But Awvoor bit his tongue, so to speak, for the sake of getting out of here alive and intact. He pulled Wrrlwarr aside and told him that they were the most important ones here - it would be nice to save the others, but if only the two of them made it out alive then it would still be a victory. The wookie had slung what salvage they could easily grab from the dead Mandalorians and droids over his shoulder, which would probably be sold later for some nice profit - or maybe donated to these newfound companions. Nonetheless they now had a dilemma. Everyone wanted to take command of the situation, and there were now three sets of "leaders" emerging from a melee with only a dozen allies.

"The door should open if we could get to the panel on the other side. There is another way in, if you take that corridor and turn right, but I can't risk moving this many people. You think you can help us out?" The actual commander belted out. Sounded like a good idea to Awvoor.

He grabbed the medkit salvaged from the Mandalorian and placed it on the ground. "Wrrlwarr and myself will go down the other side. We can get the ship - including the medbay - warmed up while someone slices the blast door from the other side. Whoever is staying can use this until we get on the ship."

Armed with a nice sized blaster and of course a rather large, bowcaster-armed wookie bodyguard, the Ithorian slowly made his way down the hall. Whoever else was coming along would catch up. Ithorians aren't known for their speed... He turned around and faced those staying, whoever they might be:

"My species possesses a built in defense mechanism that involves the usage of my vocal chords and the reverberating echo chambers in my neck. The resulting sound is quite profound and... loud. Should you hear it, treat it as a distress call that we are being overwhelmed."

Legacy of the Dark Jedi still ranks in one of the top games the Inn has ever produced, IMHO. I wish we still had it. Maankara has been the inspiration of many another character I've played.

I for one hope you'll get another going. With the right group of players games can still flourish here.

Just grabbing loose guns, grenades or anything easy. Nothing that will take more than a few seconds to grab

"Then it's settled, grab what you can and let's go."

Awvoor grabbed what loot was handy, with Wrrlwarr doing the same before darting off towards their hanger. Hopefully they didn't lose anyone along the way. They didn't have time to wait.

Let's say it doesn't. A) It's a medical ship and thus has to be clean and sterile throughout most of it. B) It's not that big. And C) He's a well-respected figure in the underground, more of a cultured criminal rather than some two-bit toydarian or hutt.

Any parts on the ship, if any at all, would be strictly emergency repair parts for his specific vehicles. Besides, why would he let some twi'lek girl he just met have any of it if there is anything?

Although never under these exact circumstances... The good doctor and his wookie friend had been in far more bitter and far more deadly firefights. This one only happened to be with a high ranking Republic official and a Jedi. And a rogue droid. And a common thug.

They were obviously winning, and it wasn't the time to change tactics now.

He began backing up in between shots, putting less distance between the wall and his back. "We have to make a break for my ship soon, we're running out of time. You all can come, but if you think you're going to fly, twi'lek... you might as well stay here."

I finally got around to seeing it. Loved it. I agree that the little change in the end was for the better. When people started talking about changing the ending - I got worried. So many big things that could have been changed. Good to know it's relatively minor.

The ending seemed more modernized to me, which you'll understand after experiencing them. What was a bigger deal in the 80's isn't really as relevant today.

MY review:

I loved Adrian. His quirky accent was spot-on. Dan was enough of a loser without being too much of one. Silk Spectre was great - both of them. I never really liked Rorschach, but the actor did him justice. The good doctor on the other hand was just far too awkward for my tastes. Maybe that was the point, but every single scene that involved him either made me want to wince, sigh or chuckle, and not just because of the nudity (or obviously purposeful lack thereof - if you're going to do it, do it; if you're not, don't) but also because of his strange mannerisms and waaaay overdone actions. Again though, this is probably intentional.

Over a strong A to A- and a definite DVD purchase. Aside from almost every scene involving Jon and the one *very* uncomfortable moment for a packed theater it was a well spent night.

I believe that vibroswords are more like bastard swords in that they can be used one or two handed, but usually never in an off-hand. Vibroblades are more along the lines of a standard sword that can see off-hand more easily.

Welcome to the inn! I too started with play by email, and I find I like forum gaming a lot better. It's cleaner and you don't have to search for messages. Plus with the dice rollers and chat rooms we have it makes for an overall better experience IMHO.

Hope to be seeing more of you.
