This was what Adrian had been waiting for. A real dogfight. He hadn't felt the thrill of a real battle since the tower. A brawl in the streets and undercity was nice for a cheap night out, and it surely toughened him up, but he couldn't use his magic there as liberally as he wanted to.

These guys murdered an entire town. They turned it to rubble. But what's worse... They challenged him. Sure he felt bad for the people and their town, but he had played the part of the hero, or rather Arien had played it for them. This thunderous weapon commanded a powerful energy. He would surely identify it later and hopefully find a way to harness it's power.

But first the wizard brother needed to be disarmed of his toy. Jal was gone, and Valentine didn't trust Matthias's skills. Everyone was charging. It was up to him to duel the one who pauses in speech. And him alone.

Conjuring up an armor spell, Adrian began to prepare what he would need. Fly to be sure, possibly even dispel magic, but he didn't want to hurt the sword. Web, perhaps?

No, that could wait - he would first test this man's ability to use his weapon for something other than flinging projectiles. That was the way of the Red... the lazy, unfit, and pathetic Red that Valentine once was.

With a few words, he finished the gestures needed to protect himself.

(OOC: Armor, then Fly, then flight, then fight!!)

I was a Jackson fan back in the 80's before he went nuts lol

You were the second person I gave a title to!

Ironically, Rys was the first. Cuz he's pretty and it wasn't much of a stretch to figure out what to give him.

Since I've handed out 90% of the titles here, let me explain something.

I usually pick one or two people every few months. First off I look for people that have been around since the Inn's old days, before this new layout, and before the big crash when we lost everything.

People who, if you ask the innmates, half of them would instantly recognize the person as a good player/GM/person whatever.

I also look for people who have run (or tried to run) a game. I also look for people playing in multiple games. The average number is about 5-6. Usually that means they have been a member for a year or more.

Finally, it just happens that those said people typically have high karma, high post counts, and a good reputation.

If someone doesn't appear to meet those criteria (Vilymar comes to mind) then they typically have been an active member since before the crash. Vil in particular played in my very first game back in 01!

So yes, we have a lot of members with titles. We also have over a thousand without. It's just a little way of saying thanks for helping make the inn a great place. It might appear that a lot of people have custom titles - that's only because the people with them tend to be the most active. And that's not a coincidence.

That's my code of conduct at least - I can't speak to what any of the other staff members use to determine who gets what.

P.S. I'm also an absent-minded sloth, so I usually miss otherwise qualified people. About half of you with titles can thank Grugg for spamming my inbox.

P.P.S. But we all love Grugg because he is handsome and manly. So very manly, and particularily handsome indeed.

I think a big reason is that so many players have spent hundreds of dollars and hours on books and character designs, and 4e not only changes everything, but forces the players into more of a teamwork scenario as opposed to a group of powerful characters scenario.

Characters have defined roles in 4e, whereas in 3.5 there were ways to get around not having a healer, a rogue, a tank, etc.

I have a feeling once more 4e books come out, things will change.

I am a fan of 4e... though I am in the minority here. I don't really have any websites for you though except dnd4.com

I swear wars have been started for less than some of the 4e discussions around here

Subject: buy stuff? But I came prepared!

"Unlike some of you folk of the city... I traveled here quite a ways from the forests and thus have fully prepared for adventure. I am going to seek out some of these famed magical items and charms that Waterdeep is supposedly flooded with.

Maybe they have a cheap one that will come in handy."

The cleric of Shevarash gathers his belongings and starts to head out. He stops at the door and turns around.

"We should sleep tonight here, for who knows when we'll be under shelter again. I have led a great many skirmishes in my time... we should leave at first dawn. We don't know exactly where this place is and it might take a while.

After my shopping, I'll be doing some... paperwork at the inn if anyone needs me."

With a bow as if to say 'peace be with you' Ether turned and quickly escaped before anyone could say anything else. The group craved direction and he didn't want anyone to have a chance to change the plan.

(OOC: I'll PM you a shopping list)

It was once again up to the cleric to play peacemaker.

"My friends... please cease your banter. It appears that the living heir has been found, and we as volunteers are to aid. I am not sure as to the legal customs of this... city, but I do know that we have a task to complete.

Let those who are tied down by need of payment, money or other compensation leave, and let those whose motivation is more deep remain and begin to plot our raid on the manor."

Ether looked to Maranda, his elvish features even more accented in the presence of so many half-elves, and waited for her to say something, having the Lords of Waterdeep deemed her heir.

Shevarash was guiding him to this point for revenge. A test, perhaps, of working with those unaffiliated with his order. Maybe to see how well he can work an impromptu skirmish.

Even if he remained the sole suvivor, he had no need for a mansion. Ether was in this for the thrill, for the mission, and for the spiritual quest.

The goal is to take over the town, not really destroy it. So we can't go in guns blazing. Besides, it's a big enough town that they could easily overpower us if we get too crazy. We have to be smart about it.

Subject: Gestalt Game Tabletop

Ok, so my tabletop group is doing something a bit differently. We are having a longtime friend and occasional player from another city come in to our group to run an experiment for a paper he's writing.

He has asked another group for whom he occasionally DMs to run an evil adventure, where the party is dropped from a dragon and told to take over the town. My group is running the exact same scenario. The other group is told to be deceitful, tactful, very roleplay heavy, and try to take it over through subterfuge and a moderate amount of violence.

My group is asked to do the opposite, with maximum violence and little interaction with the residents.

He'll time us both in game and number of sessions, each playing weekly for about 6 hours and see who is more successful.

We are 7th level evil (not sure about going neutral), 3.5 Gestalt, anything goes from any printed material. He is a very hard DM in terms of campaign difficulty. We're expected to gain a few levels over the course of the game, but we don't know how many. We are allowed two free level adjustments and two free hit die. We are also allowed two flaws, traits, and anything else from UA.

Keep in mind he uses ridiculously tough enemies, so he encouraged us to be ready to take anything.

So far in our party of 4 we have a swordsage/illusionist that is basically a guy who can hide extremely well and cast phantasmal killer with a scary save DC.

We also have a warmage/warblade, who is our primary damage dealer and tank.

I am thinking going something like dread necromancer/warlock and maybe eldritch theurge with some of the sick charisma boosting templates and such. I don't know what our fourth guy will bring, but he has come up with some crazy psionic and arcane builds in the past.

So basically, I need your help. With any available material and 14 levels (and 2 LA and 2 HD) to play with, I can't really think of a place to start. I have played just about everything in the past, and this has become more of a challenge to come up with the craziest and most powerful build. I'm looking at a monk/swordsage or maybe a hulking hurler build, or a suicide charger.

Any help is appreciated!

The troubleshooters sans the one who stayed behind decide to split up and explore the new place. An agreed upon four hours is set as enough time to explore the area.

As you are about to break, a man approaches the party.

"Greetings Troubleshooters 2 Apple 5 Button. I am Troubleshooter Lulz-R-KXYD-1. I've been assigned as your guide for Subsector 21 by our great Friend Computer. Let me help you however I can."

(OOC: Here is a new player, Falas. Anyone can volunteer to take his help, or you can split up and just assign him something to do while everyone does their own thing. It's up to you guys. He is provided as a resource to your team.

Someone can feel free to take the lead and make a decision. PM me what you plan to do. We'll assume within 10 minutes you are each off alone somewhere assumed to be out of sight of the others.)
