The concept of a bard has been imported into the Warlord class - if you give a warlord an instrument you have much of the same, with a little more strengthy background. Multiclass him with a rogue and bingo - you have a bard.

As for Gnomes - the monster manual has statistics to make any race playable, including gnomes. They aren't gone.

All the other complaints seem to be empty - Alignments no longer have game bearing, so call yourself a tyrant if you want. I happen to like the option of being unaligned, and the unaligned gods.

Not everyone can do magic, regardless of what some people are saying. I'm not sure where this came from.

If setting is the reason you are discrediting 4e then I'm sorry but that's a cop-out. Audalis created an entirely new pantheon and setting. Setting is the job of the DM, not the system. I've tweaked the basic 4e setting in my game, and my players love it.

The new MM groupings (new skeletons, etc.) are a major selling point for me. I can't wait for new monster manuals. I keeps me from having to homebrew monsters to keep my players guessing.

I never really understood why the rules were so darn important for roleplaying anyway. If we wanted a roleplay heavy session we would just dream up characters and roleplay with no rules, playing war or something with cards when it came to battle. Our group's roleplay has not become any less intense or elaborate, but we have found that our combats, skill challenges, and otherwise heartpounding moments have become much more exciting.

If you play 4e and find that your roleplaying suffers, well that's not really the fault of the system. It's the fault of the gaming group.

Brianna I'm not sure how you can get mentally challenged - the rules are significantly more complex than 2e or 3e.

Probably one of the most creative moments in my live groups history is working out and narrating a skill challenge, where the group was chasing a thief through urban streets.

I have heard complaints from my wizard player about feeling underpowered next to the others, but wizards have been changed from powerhouse nukers to support characters. And very good ones at that. The game is about powers, not spells.

Gone are the days when a caster can destroy his entire party in the blink of an eye.

I think everyone is fond of what they grew up playing. I grew up on 2e, and still enjoy it.

But as far as I'm concerned, Rys is right in that 4e is what 3e should have been. 3.5's only saving grace was the HUGE amount of customization.

First off, welcome to the Inn!

I moved your thread to a forum where people are more apt to notice your message.

As far as games, anything goes as long as a DM is willing to run it. IF you feel more comfortable jumping right in and playing, try sending a personal message to a GM of a free-form game - or otherwise check out the recruitment forum and see who is looking for players.

Playing online is usually more story focused - and tends to have longer games, with GMs updating every week or so. There has been the occasional chat game formed that are more fast paced.

Feel free to ask anything else.

I can agree with you, though I think it's great the way it is. It is literally like playing an MMO on paper - which being a veteran of MMOs (NOT WoW) I can honestly say I prefer 4e. The socialization is a lot better, and we get through more than having to endlessly grind.

If this were a video game, I think a lot would be lost the way of DDO.

I guess I was lucky - when I got my braces put on they removed four molars so that my wisdom teeth had room to come in properly.

Of course it sucked just as bad getting those four out, but at least it's a more distant memory.

Check out the recruitments and feel free to jump right into a game. I suggest fantasy free-form games, shoot the person running it a private message and see what the situation is with that game.

I, like all the others here, am open for questions.

Subject: What about her!?

The battle was intense, but it was finally winding to a close. The mantis warrios with which Adrian fought was cunning, and well able to crush them with reinforncements if he was allowed to leave. But whether it was the weakness of all the casting, the trauma of Wind's situation, or perhaps even the death of Jal... Valentine simply could not close the deal. A deep cut forced the warrior-mage to back away, almost too weak to continue the chase. But he had to, his companions and his job depended on it. In this desparate time Adrian could see how Jal could find comfort calling out to his love - if Adrian had a guardian spectre, this would be when he would call for her. But he didn't, and thus he had nothing but his own power upon which to draw.

Then, just as the sky began to black, a well placed missile spears the flying mount - and with an assist from gravity ends the life of the mantis rider. "Thank you..." Valentine muttered in a surely inaudible manner before plummeting to the ground and using the last of his energy to half-break his fall. The sight of Kilgrim rushing towards him was the last thing he remembered before slipping away.

A few minutes later after regaining his bearings and consciousness - there was only one thing on everyone's mind: all their wounded allies.

With a quick thank you to his dwarven companion, Adrian turned to the tower and the only thing on his mind.

Wind...

Killer, are you ok? Valentine called out to his trusty familiar, who hopefully had found relative safety deep underground, as he dashed to where he had left Wind's battered body. Hopefully she was still alive, and could fight her way out of this mess. "Kilgrim, is there anything you might be able to do to help her?" he called as he ran to where he left her lay...

(OOC: Well doc? Is she gonna be ok?)

only one post has happened Grugg. The report is going to be important. You can each just post what you do in the deck, and then go straight on to what you plan to report to Carrigan - we'll sort out any conflicts of information or what have it through PM or this thread.

I can see the action movie link, having DMed for the third time yesterday, but there was no lack of roleplaying at the table.

True the system itself focuses more on things like the city chase, puzzle solving and flat out combat, but it also allows for unique terrain usage, out of combat situations, and a bit more freedom from alignment.

We are thoroughly enjoying it. It adds more depth to the system, but it only takes away from roleplaying if the players want it to. I think it corrects what 3e tried to do.

If you want to write a group novel, play 2e. If you want more adrenaline, play 4e. I see no more use for 3e or 3.5 in my future.

Wow Finder, you've had some pretty stupid ideas in your time, but this is close to the stupidest.

There wasn't any enough time to consider the large chance of failure, it was going to sink. The bad part was that halflings weren't amazing swimmers. Oh well, do or die - it beats swimming or floating around waiting to die.

"Ja'are! The Pot! Grab the pot!" Finder screeched as he swam/ran/fought his way as fast as he possibly could towards the kitchen. Though it once housed his amazingly delicious dinner, it would now become his defacto boat. Hopefully it was large enough.
