Bah! The beast is dead! Let's just move along.

Kadrin, listening for any bit of wisdom from Fin's lore of this dark place, waited for the others to gather around and make their assessments of the entrance.

The knight spoke Kadrin's own thoughts... It would be a damned task, indeed, should they have to stumble around in this accursed darkness.

Once again, the elf mage brought his magicks to bear light on their present circumstances. "Thanks," he nodded, letting the light strengthen his resolve along with his sight. "Let's hope it is strong enough to pierce this dark hole."

OOC: Kadrin's ready to move in.

"Agreed," the grizzled dwarf nodded, affirming Arien's words. "We best be getting on. I doubt they'll wait on us to arrive before they start their little celebration. And, for Galen's sake, I don't want to be late."

He eyed his companions with grim seriousness. "This was the easy part, friends. Only more and worse of this vile devilry and abysmal trickery lay ahead." He gave Maximus as pat on the shoulder. "Stone skins and gold hearts... may we have both."

Crossbow still in hand, he began to make his to the entrance of the tomb with wary steadfastness and assumed the others were following (close) behind.

Subject: Splitting hares

I'm not exactly looking at splitting the party... I'm suggesting some people stay in the center of the field we are in and heal/heal up, while the others do a perimeter sweep of the area, especially checking out the entrance to the tomb.

Of course I'm NOT suggesting that half the party go into the Tomb while the rest wait outside to heal. That would just trigger spooky scary music that we all know is the precursor to someone dying.

Alacrity, how big is this grassy meadow that we find ourselves in? And how far away is the entrance?

So, the "entrance" into the ToH is directly ahead of us, yes?

How much time does Ody or others still have on their True Seeing power? Maybe someone should take a look at the entrance.

Perhaps split the party a bit? Leave a couple warriors and healers to hear the wounded, sent the rest to take a look at the entrance and grassy field and report?

I, the player, was trying to honor my fellow players. Felt like Wembley had gotten the crew in enough trouble.

Maybe Dudley and Wembley will have to come back to this place with a whole crew of their relatives and clean out this place.

Kadrin claims he has an allergy to bears, and refuses to ride them. (extra points if you know the reference)

Seriously, though... Kadrin and Ody should do more team ups! Crazed, one-eyed dwarf riding and massive, wild bear... what's not to love about that?

Also, I'll likely be away for more of the time between tomorrow until Jan 6 with some limited access.

Peace,
Ayrn

Subject: Running

Kadrin watched down the sight of his crossbow as the elf mage's magic erupted against the ceiling in a fiery inferno. "Hrmpm," he grumbled jokingly. "You wizards get all the toys, hmm?"

The stress cracks and fissures beginning to show in the ceiling, changed the old dwarf's mood suddenly. "Run," he said to Jal urgently, before raising the warning cry to the rest of his companions. "RUN!"

Noting the thief's poor shape, the general pulled up close alongside of Max, ready to offer assistance to the large man, or drag him, if need be, to the entrance of the tomb.

OOC: Kadrin is looking to assist Max (drag him if need be) to the "safety" of the tomb entrance. I'm assuming that's the way we are moving.

Wembley was too focused on his find to notice Mal's sarcarm. "It's a fine blade, for sure, Mal," he quipped, he eyes still on the portal above. "But it will have to wait for later. There's portal over her, in the ceiling. Look!" He pointed to indicate the portal above.

"I wonder how many other portals we've missed," he wondered sadly. "Ah, well," he continued with a shrug. "Let's see where this one goes."

Wembley scrambled up the cabinet in order to reach the portal. "If these maps are correct, this portal should take us right to..."

OOC: Hopefully, by this time, Wembley has made it up and through the portal.

Can I move and attack in the same round? That's what I want to know!

Subject: Yes...

Well, I know that Wembley would normally want to get his hands on the stuff behind the glass displays, but he's trying to honor his companions by "not touching" for the moment.

I have a sense that a number of the characters are more interested in getting out of this place instead of exploring the rooms and "treasure hunting" (correct me if I'm wrong). So, I would imagine that, unless some visible threat presents itself, now that we have the maps we'll likely just move from room to room seeing if we can find the exit. (which maybe sounds a bit boring, but is probably what we'll end up doing)

I believe just about everyone has posted now.... just Gamard and Mal are missing I think. 4 out of 6 ain't bad.

From previous plans, the hope is to move up a level. Because you didn't state it in your post describing the room, I have Wembley looking for some indication of a passage to go up. I imagine if he finds something, the rest of the group will follow up.

Subject: More firing

Even as Kadrin was reloading his crossbow, he gave the Maximus a light kick to his side as the thief began to stir. "Get up! Ain't no time to be on the ground!"

Seeing the brute of a man rise up gave the old dwarf an ounce of hope. "Cut the Bear down," Kadrin spoke to Maximus, "and then protect the Finarsil. I'm going to see if I can get Jar alive long enough to burn these leeches to ash."

OOC: Kadrin is firing his crossbow again, with first priority targeting going to protecting Jar (and himself) from any tentacles. And tenacle he's targeting, he'll be looking to hit with at least 2 shots. If he has space to move, he be looking to move closer to Jar. Also, again, if the opportunity exists, Kadrin prefers melee combat with his hammer over the crossbow.

Apparently, they didn't anticipate the usefulness of Alter Self... it's not on anyone's list.

Oh, well. This then is just a friendly public service announcement in tthis holiday season: Blood! It's in you to give!

Well, if any of our mages have leeches on them and have the "Alter Self" spell, they could cast it to change themselves into dwarves... just throwing that out there.

Hey Roger,
How many new tentancles are coming down? 6? How many are left from the first/second round? (my basic question is, how many tentacles are we facing?)

Also, is there a mass cure disease? There should be. I how Lun gets on her studies and figures out a way to pray for just such a spell. That would be handy right now.

"Oh, Alon, come on!" the little cidal quipped. "We're going to have to cross one of these lines for sure, if we hope to get to the second floor. The map says that the acess to the upper level is around here." Wembley points out the northeast cabinet. "And I'm sure Mal would love to handle that black blade a little bit."

Wembley begins looking around the northeast cabinet, looking for some kind of sign of passage to get to the upper levels.

Topic: How the Cthulu board games work like and how you make characters and story?
Subject: Not to many games like that here

Hey Ivan,

I haven't seen too many Cthulu games hosted here at the Inn, but I would imagine that they would run similar to many of the games that do run here.

Basically, this is how it works, whether for Dungeons and Dragons/ Pathfinder, Cthulu, Modern Zombies, Superheroes, Firefly/ Star Wars/ Star Trek, or pretty much anything else:

Step #1: Someone decides that they would like to run a particular type of game and usually they have some kind of story/adventure in mind. This person is typically referred to as the DM or GM.

The DM/GM will put an "ad" up in the recruitment forum, typically laying out a teaser post about the story they are looking to tell, followed by a list of boundaries/rules/requirements for potential players looking to join the game.

The story/adventure they are looking to tell might be a pre-made adventure from a publishing company that they picked up, something they've read or watched, something from their imagination, or a mix of all the above. Opponents that the players' characters will face may include things that the DM/GM have made up themselves, or may come from pre-published materials.

The boundaries/rules/requirements usually include things like how many players they are looking for, which rules-set they are looking to use to run the game, how players should go about creating their characters, how often they are looking for players to post to the game, and what information they need from potential players in order to apply to the game.

Step #2: Interested potential players follow the guidelines given by the DM/GM in the recruitment post to create and submit characters to the DM/GM, either by private message or to the recruitment thread of the game.

Step #3: The DM/GM approves characters submitted for the game, asking players to make any changes that he/she thinks would be best for the game they are looking to lead.

Step #4: Once the DM/GM has received enough characters for the game, he/she will start up a Game Thread for their game in the appropiate game forum, along with a Question and Answer thread for the game in the Question and Answer forum.

I would encourage you to check out a number of the game threads and Q/A threads to get a clear example of how the games are played.

Step #5: GM/DMs post to the game, setting up the scene/world, to which the players respond as if they were the characters. It's kind of like cooperative creative storytelling. Again, check out some of the games to see what I mean.

Hope you find this helpful! Let us know if you have any other questions and we'll try to answer them for you.
Peace!
Ayrn

Kadrin ignored the pain of the biting leeches for the moment, and moved to defend the unconscious rogue. Taking aim once more, the scarred general loosed two more bolts into the attacking tentacles.

[OOC: Sorry for the brief post, just getting back from a work trip. A couple of notes regarding Kadrin's actions:

1) He's looking to move to defend Max. If it looks like the tenacles will be in melee range, Kadrin would always rather fight with his hammer rather than the crossbow.

2) Can we move and make all our specialist attacks with a weapon?

3) If no tentacles seem to be moving towards Max, Kadrin will fire bolts at any tentacle reach for Arien.]

That was a very good post! Wow! I most definitely did not anticipate dead elf warriors vomiting leeches. Good times!

So, are we able to assess what is threatening the party at the moment? By that, I mean, are there still tentacles trying to kill us? Are the crazy leeches still trying to swarm us?

From here on, we shoot everything, including Galen... just in case.

Subject: Raining elves...

Kadrin was wary enough that his crossbow was cocked and loaded, his eye fixed not on his companions, but on the elven guardsmen. Memories of his own kin reanimated to life kept his finger steady on the trigger, ready to bury a bolt in any body that even looked like it might try to strike the priestess.

The sudden catapulting of the elf hunters by the tentacles was not exactly how he imagined this plan to work out. Sure, he had faced foes that would fling the bodies of his warriors back at his troops... but that was with actually seige craft, not rope.

"Son of a..." the scarred general muttered, firing a bolt at one of the tentacles seeking the fair priestess even as he tried to step side and dodge the incoming elf missiles.

[OOC: Kadrin will fire as many bolts as he can into one of tenacles, preferrably one that seems to be attacking the elf priestess while trying to dodge the incoming elves... he will not be looking to catch them.

If the tentacles begin to try and attack those of us on the ground, Kadrin will put away the crossbow in favour of his war hammer and shield, and will attempt to shield one of the spellcasters.]
