Subject: Couple notes about my latest post...

So, a couple things to note:

1) I've named the four men sitting around my table: Jonah, Benny, Kearn and Jerome. Only Jonah's soldiering profession has been hinted at, though I have in mind that Benny is a younger soldier with Jonah, and the other two are local shop keepers.

2) Kit is going by the name Saffron at the moment. Sorry, I know this could get a little confusing. If it starts making a mess in our posts, I'll cease to do it... but I envision Kit having a bunch of aliases.

3) The game the men and Kit are playing is a dice game known as Bluff... in real life, it is called Liar's Dice (the dice game seen on Pirates of the Carribean is an example of the game).

Think that's it for now. Almerin, where's your character going?

The pale woman had noticed Kit, of this the blade-dancer was sure... even from across the room, Kit could feel a slight chill as their eyes met briefly. Death... the word whispered unbidden in her mind.

“What’ll it be, ma’am?”

The barkeep’s question caused her to shift her focus back to the task at hand. Having noted the pale woman’s drink, Kit requested the same. “A glass of your red wine, good sir,” she said, her playful charm lighting up her face.

As the barkeep fetched her order, Kit returned to watching the room. A table nearby had a dice game of Bluff! going: five men – shopkeepers and soldiers by the looks of them – huddled over overturned mugs, peering at the dice hidden under their own while guessing at what the others had hidden. When her drink arrived, Kit sauntered over to the table. “Looks like fun, fellas. Mind if a girl joins in?” she asked coyly.

“Nah, lass,” chirped in one man - a seasoned soldier with the sword at his side and the scars on his face to prove it. He looked around the table for an objection. “I think we’d welcome company, eh, boys? Though, we’re shy a chair.”

Another one stood up, “Bah, you can have mine.”

“Aw, come on, Trent,” said the first man. “Where you goin’?”

“Home, Jonah,” came Trent’s reply. “The wife will be none t’ pleased if I come home with any less. And...” Looking towards the back table, he said in a hushed voice, “I don’t like the look of the strangers tonight.” Turning to Kit apologetically, “Save for you, ma’am.”

Kit returned the man’s nod and allowed him to collect his things, before taking his seat. “I hope you all don’t mind,” Kit said with a note of remorse. “I wasn’t looking to chase anyone away.”

“Nah!” replied Jonah as he watched Trent exit. “Trent’s just a twitchy sort.” Looking straight into Kit’s eyes, he said slyly, “I like the looks of you better anyway.”

Kit gave him the desired blush.

“Now,” Jonah continued, shifting his focus back into the game. “I trust you know how t’ play?” Kit nodded. “Well, then, you’ve got Kearn and Jerome there on your left, and me and Benny on your right. And you would be...?”

Kit smiled brightly, “Saffron.”

Subject: How much liberty?

Aryn,

How much liberty to we have in writing conversation/action between our characters and "minor" NPCs? i.e. If I wished, could I write about a dialogue / action scene between Kit and one of the lads in the tavern? (like, some lad tries to pick her up and she goes with it for a while until he becomes a bit pushy which leads to a dual which the lad loses?)

(sorry... like I said... such a newbie when it comes to freeform.)

Not really sure yet how to get Kit to the table, but I'm sure an opportunity will present itself.

A couple notes about Kit:

1) She's got a scimitar with her.
2) She's not wearing any armour that you can see.
3) She's dressed in a white blouse top, soft reddish-brown seude leather pants, a wide black leather belt with a ornate silver buckle, soft brown leather gloves, a chestnut-brown "swashbuckler" hat over a chestnut-brown bandana, and black leather boots.
4) She's not from around here and this is her first time in the town.
5) She's human.
6) She's in her mid-twenties.

What's the html coding if I want to post a link to a picture?

Anyway... looking forward to this!

Subject: A bad Kitty...

[OOC Note: I use italicized words to indicate my character’s internal thoughts which other’s can’t hear unless they can read thoughts.

The door to the Half-Blind Warrior opened once more and, while Kit entered with less bravado and gusto than some of the previous clientele, it was still hard for many of the patrons not to stop their conversations one more time and stare at the red-haired beauty. To all who met her gaze, Kit rewarded them with a soft, half smile with only a hint of seduction.

Oh, gods! she complained to herself. Of course it would have to be the most backwater tavern in the most backwater town... The soft smile and warm face remained in place the whole while as Kit casually read the room, taking mental notes of faces and furniture. As she made her way to the bar, she caught sight of the back table and the woman who seemed slightly out of place compared to the others present. Still, she kept her gaze casually, not lingering long on the anomaly.

Taking off her hat and placing it on the bar, Kit slightly adjusted the scimitar at her side before taking a seat on one of the vacant stools. She waited for the tavern keeper... and any lads who fancied themselves a romantic tonight.

Neat idea with the magic item. And thanks for clarifying what you were after with your magic questions... I was afraid we'd all be going Harry Potter.

I have a fey sorcerer-type in mind... though, I can be persuaded to bring a roguish or wicked priest if someone else is thinking of bringing a magic-user in. (Not sure, Almerin, if you were serious about the evil wizard; or where you were going, Takley, with your question about magic.) Chime in with what you guys are thinking.

No DnD edition, this is free-form... my post was meant only as a reference point for "power level". I hope I didn't confused anyone.

Subject: Four questions... forgive me, I'm new at freeform...

Aryn,

Hey! Thanks for the cool intro. Four questions:

1) One, if you had to give a "rating" to the type of characters you think would be best suited to this game, would you say characters should be -
a. "Newbies", out for their first adventure? [DnD = Level 1-3]
b. "Been around the block once or twice", maybe had two - four adventures, maybe known in their village [DnD = Level 4-6]
c. "Well-seasoned", maybe made a name for themselves in their surrounding countryside, good at what they do, maybe a magic item or two, got some cool moves [DnD = Level 7-10]
d. "Almost-Perfected", known throughout the country, almost a master at their craft, gone on more adventures then they can recount [DnD = Level 11-14]
e. Don't matter none, it will be fine.

2) This is a game for evil doers?

3) Can you give a small bit more on the basic plot of this adventure? Like "this will be a dungeon-crawl tyoe adventure looking for something lost" or "this will be a political intigue kind of adventuire, with the character looking to set a plan in motion to overthrow the government" or something like that...

4) What are the characters to the white-skinned woman? Are we meeting her at the tavern? Are we "friends", "rivals", "(potential) employees", or random strangers?

Thanks,
Ayrn

Subject: Oops... Touch AC...

Touch AC is when the enemies' attack somehow by-passes your armor, so you only get to apply your Dodge/DEX bonuses to your AC.

Certain spells (both touch and ranged) required an attack roll against your "Touch AC"... i.e. Shocking Grasp - because the spell causes your hand to become electrically charged, it doesn't matter where you touch your enemy... his armor is useless in protecting him from the electricity.

Topic: A first for everything!
Subject: Healing and Flat-footed

Flat-footed is a term used to describe your character when he is either caught off guard by his foes or when he is flanked by them. When your PC is "flat-footed", you lose your DEX and Dodge bonus to your Armor Class.

Healing would be fine to add to your character, though I will need to take away some other skill(s). Healing is a "cross-class skill" which means you need to spend 2 skill points for every 1 rank you want in the skill (as opposed to a 1:1 ratio with class skills). Suggestions on what skills you would like to cut? Also, please note that healing is keyed off of WIS, so at most you can get Healing +3.

SirSadaar,
Great! 3 more questions:

1) Do you want him to be more about brute strength, with powerful attacks... or more of a cunning fighting (disarming his foes and such).

2) Do you want him to be a horseman/knight of sorts (some skill in mounted combat)?

3) Do you want him to have very high strength and below average charisma, or average charisma and fairly high strength?

SirSadaar,
When you say you want a sword and shield fighter, are you hoping he'll be more of a two-weapon fighting (using the shield to bash some skulls) or will he mostly be a sword fighter and the shield is just for defense? It will help me choose the right feats.

Subject: Keeper: Here's an idea for you...

Race: Cidal [Pick]

Class: Wizard (if you want the PC to be the bumbling bookish professor), Sorcerer (if you want his power to be more innate), Bard (if you are looking for more of the happy-wanderer/dappler of magic type)

The Wizard class knows the most spells, but has to select and memorize them. Intelligence in the key attribute, which also gives your character more skill points too.

The Sorcerer knows few spells, but can cast them lots of time/day and select which spell to cast on the fly. Charisma is the key attribute, which makes him more of a "face"-type character.

Both the Wizard and the Sorcerer get a animal familiar. Both have low hit point, few skill points (though the Wizard offsets this with a high Intelligence), one good save, no armor, and fewer weapon choices... their big deal is spells, right.

The Bard knows and cast few spells from a more limited spell list (Enchantment, Illusion and Divination mostly... with a few healing spells). He too can cast on the fly. Charisma is the key attribute. He gains more hit points, more skill point, has two good saves (instead of just one) and has some other abilities that help build up the group.

Not sure when you were hoping to start this game, Jozan. I'm away until the 15th. My internet connection will likely be sketchy during this time.

I'll try to post up a character sheet before I go.

I'll give this a shot, Jozan. I'll even pick up the Officer if you like.

Which books from Weird Wars are you using? I have the following:
Blood Over the Rhine
Hell Freezes Over
Weird Wars II
Weird Wars II - Player's Guide

To be honest, I haven't even opened them yet... so, though I have the books, I don't know the system yet.
Would the Officer be a new conscript as well, or would he have a bit more experience. I've got a "Captain Rex" (Star Wars) idea in mind... but can come up with something different.

Thanks!

Hey Aryn,

It's Ayrn. Nice to meet you!

Olan, the webmaster, is the primary owner of Audalis, though it is pretty open source, with many hands having a part in its creation. I imagine it would be fine to use it in your tales... we use it freely for our games.

Glad to have you aboard! Beyond writing stories, are you into role playing? If yes, what type tickle your fancy?

Welcome to the Inn!
