Topic: A Local Legend - An Audalis Short Adventure
Subject: Searching for who knows what...

"I like your thinkin', Isi," Driscoll said with a grin. The swashbuckler joined the lass in making a careful search of the exposed floor, as well as remaining walls. As he laboured, Cole sang,

"Be of good cheer! (Aye!)
Lads and lasses, (Aye!)
Be of good cheer!
For the plunder
we're lookin' for
surely is near!
We'll dig and work
'til the morning!
Have ye no fear!
Treasure be ours! (Aye!)
Riches be ours! (Aye!)
Be of good cheer!"

Cole continued to whistle the sailor tune as they searched.

Topic: Star Wars
Subject: More definite ideas

To further tease out my initial game thoughts, if I were to run the game, here's what you'd be looking at:

1) Setting: The game would take place between the times of Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV - A New Hope, a year or two after the Clone Wars.

2) Type of Game: Mostly a "search-and-rescue" type game. Characters will be part of the "pre-Rebel alliance" resistance to the new, yet very threatening Empire. While Jedi characters could work in this time period, they will be few, and they will be hunted mercilessly. Other dharacters with sympathies for the Empire will NOT work in this game.

3) Character Level: Low... likely somewhere between level 1 and 3.

4) Character Advancement: Fairly quick... likely 2 levels by the end of the adventure. I award XP for accomplishing goals, for active posting, for good story writing, and good role-playing.

5) Length of Game: At two posts per week, taking in the fact that there will be a number of weeks I won't be able to post... the game would probably go until Christmas. Maybe more quickly.

6) One-shot or Campaign: The possibility exists that this could grow into a campaign, though at the end of this adventure there will be a good deal of "resolution" and feelings of accomplishment by the characters (at least, I hope so)

7) Number of players: Four would be ideal, I think. We could definitely play with three.

Posting: Regular posting would be required. I would expect two posts per week. Post #1 would happen between Monday, 12 PM EST - Wednesday, 6 PM EST (with an update from me on Wednesday night/ Thursday morning). Post #2 would happen between Thursday, 12 PM EST - Sunday 6 PM EST (with an update from me on Sunday night/ Monday morning). Failure to post means I NPC your character (with penalties if you failed to let me know you wouldn't be posting). After two weeks of no posts, your character becomes a permanent NPC, and I look to find a new player.

9) Style/Length of Posts: I expect decent writing, written in third person POV. Your post would not necessarily need to be long, but it should contribute to the story (it's all about the story!). Game mechanics/information should be included atthe bottom of your post in the form of an OOC. Characters speaking out loud should have their speech within "quotation marks", while internal thoughts should be italicized.

10) Rules and Rule 0: I am ALL about the "story" that will be told by the group of us. While I would want to use the SAGA Edition rules to provide a framework for our story, I will always have the Rules submit to the Story. That means if you all happen to score critical hits on a BBEG that I want to live because he is important to the story, than I will likely ignore the results of the dice.

Anyway, just some more thoughts... I am kinda getting excited about this. (can you tell?)

Subject: Not the name of the ship...

at least, that wasn't my intended purpose in using that word.

Neither was I referring to the "game mechanics" when I used the word.

My post was meant to convey the idea that Benjamin had played his part in escaping off the ship (for the moment) and now he needed to trust the capabilities of the Ithorian (and others) and in destiny (similiar, but different, to trusting "fate" or "a higher power", etc). Benjamin believes that it is NOT his destiny to die on some random Ithorian's ship.

A name for a ship is always welcome. Addy?

Subject: Leaving this to those better qualified...

Benjamin helped the Embassador settle in for the flight -- some where out of the way. "Embassador, is there anything I can do for you?"

[OOC: Should the Khil need some assistance, the Jedi will help. Benjamin will also check to see if the Embassador is injured in anyway and, if necessary, will request the Ithorian's assistance if needed. Continuing on...]

Ensuring their privacy, the Jedi returned the datacard to the Embassador. "The data has been kept safe so far, Embassador. Though the Twi'lek girl aboard this ship saw our exchange earlier and is suspicious. Be wary of her."

[OOC: Insert Embassador's response/ instructions here]

Leaving the Embassador for the moment, Benjamin greeted the new passengers, check them for any obvious injuries, and attempted to find comfort places for them to rest. He trusted the good Doctor and Destiny to lead them safely out of harm's way for the moment.

May the Force be with us.

[OOC: Benjamin is leaving the decision making to the Ithorian.]

Subject: DMing the game

Geraint,

Like Skari said, we're not looking to ignore you. In fact, I'd like to hear your ideas for a game!

I've read your recruitment for SW: Redemption. I thought your recruitment post was good. However, I'm not interested in a free-form game, nor in the basic premise you laid out (no offense) of running a ship. It reminded me of a number of Star Trek games that have run/ are currently running here at the Inn which also haven't captured my attention.

You are right in saying that you are new. Do you need to build a name for yourself before you can run a game here? Nope. You mostly need people interested.

I'll tell you what did attract me to your SW: Redemption Recruitment post. Initially, it was the fact that it was Star Wars. I like the Stars Wars setting (though the time after the Rebellion is not so interesting to me).

But I was also attracted to your writing style. In my brain, I thought, "This guy would probably be able to tell/write a good story. I'd be interested in being a part of a game by this person... just not this one."

Anyway, what I am trying to say is... my above post was meant to tease out more thoughts about what we are looking for in a game. I stated my thoughts... I'd love to hear more from all of you. (especially you, Geraint!)

Subject: Interest...

I could be persuaded into joining another SW game... and possibly GMing one.

It would depend on what type of game we were interested in playing. If I were to GM, I'd likely put together a low to mid-level game (level 3 - 6 ish), set somewhere between the Old Republic and the Rebellion time frame. Characters would be "good" and "heroic" in nature. And the game would likely be a one-shot game, of the "search-and-rescue" variety taking place on one, maybe two different locations (so limited space faring).

Those are just my ideas... what are you all looking for in a game?

Benjamin spotted the Embassador as the hanger doors opened and quickly moved to protect him from further harm. The Jedi acknowledged the squad commander's command with a nod, "For the glory of the Republic!"

Shielding the Embassador's body from the laser fire coming in through the hanger door, Benjamin followed behind the Khil as they made their way to the Ithorian's ship.

Topic: A Local Legend - Q/A
Subject: Haha!

I see an update from Almerin has been posted! Yay!

Sadly, it turns out that it led us nowhere.

At least the villagers are a bit more friendly!

So... where to now folks? If you haven't figured it out yet, this is the joy of Almerin's games --> zero railroading means we gots to do a lot of the thinking ourselves.

Personally, I'm not sure what to do next. But here are some thoughts:

1) Befriend the innkeeper maybe and draw out information from him over time.

2) Try to be helpful and sacrificial to the village in the day to day work of their lives so that they begin to trust us and we might inspire them to also follow us (or at least, inspire them to change their own destiny with a little help from us). Maybe the Syl cleric could set up a "health clinic" in the village for a bit. Driscoll could help out with some general labour. A number of us could provide "entertainment" in the evenings at the inn (Songs, stories, "magic tricks", etc).

3) Seek our the sea elf druid guy again... though I'm not sure what we'll gain from that. I have a funny feeling that he won't be anymore helpful.

4) Explore the area around the village and look for where these lizard-men-creatures are living. Maybe the villagers know? (I think the sea druid knows, but, again, I don't think he'll tell us out right.)

5) Leave. This seems the easiest, and may be in line RP-wise with Driscoll's character... though, as a player, not so rewarding.

The options I am leaning towards are #1,2, and 4... maybe a combination of the three of them.

What are some other ideas that you all have?

QUESTIONS FOR THE DM:
1) What are the main types of work in the village? There's a blacksmith. Farmers? Fishers? Berry-pickers? How do people "make ends meet" in this village?

2) Do they get a lot of travelers come through (by land or sea)? Or is the inn more of a pub for the locals?

3) Who's "in charge" of the village?

It may be that some of these things we need to discover IC (i.e. #2/3), and that's cool... a simple answer of "You don't know, yet" will suffice.

Thanks, Almerin.

ENCOURAGEMENT TO ALL: Don't let the fact that you don't know what to do discourage you from posting. Just post an idea for a course of action even if you're not sure it will lead us anywhere.

For example, I had my doubts that looking for the magic sword would actually result in us finding it. My hope was we'd discover some clues about our really mystery while we searched.

While I don't feel we discovered any real clues yet, what we did find out from Almerin's post is that the villagers seem a lot less hostile to us now that the "Tithe Time" has passed by and they know that we didn't meddle in their affairs. I feel more confident now in talking with them and more hopeful that they will be a little more loose-lipped around us.

Let's keep up the posts. Once per week at least. Twice per week if we can.

Even if you don't know what to post, at least a simple post here to the Q/A board that says something like, "Not sure what to post..." or "Don't know what to do next.." or "Here's an idea, what do you think...". This way Almerin knows that at least we've still around and interested in the game.

Looking forward to hearing some responses to my suggestions up at the top!

Thanks,
Ayrn

Subject: OCD on Looting!

:: Haha! Seriously, Loki, you are like super hard-core about looting bodies! And Skari-dodo, I'd say you were being super generous about how long it would take to load up the bodies.

Anyway... just so that there are no hard feelings later on... Ben will be grabbing the Embassador and heading for the ship. (if the Khil is still alive). Only person I'll be defending is him. Top priorities for Ben:

1) Get the datacard to his Jedi master (aka "get off this ship").
2) Save the Embassador.
3) Help the Republicans get off the ship.

Truth is, Ben will not be able to understand why Arruna is looting the bodies (especially at a time like this). Well... he'll probably chalk it up as "greedy-little Twi'lek", and leave her to her own devices.

Just giving you a heads up. While I as a player understand trying to get "the loot" (although, to be honest, I expected Arruna to be choosing her life over loot right now... I had expected her to park her speeder in the cargo hold first chance and then try to convince the good doctor while he should leave right now!), Ben the character does not care a bit about the loot.

Benjamin heard the squad leader loud and clear. "We're opening the doors now."

The Jedi raced to the doors while encouraging his unlikely companions, "We need to get this blast door open now. Arruna, get yourself aboard the ship. Kate, if you're willing, I could use a hand with the door. You get it open, and I'll look to protect us from whatever's on the otherside."

[OOC: Benjamin is moving to the door. If he can get there in a move action, great. If not, he'll use his move and standard actions.

If Kate's willing to opening the door, awesome. Benjamin will ignite his lightsaber and stand just off to the side of the door, ready as the door opens.

If Kate is unwilling, Benjamin will open the door (this round if he has enough time... can he use a swift action to push a button to open a door?)

After the door is open, Benjamin will be looking to get the Embassador safely aboard the ship. He'll be torn, though... if Kate will accompany the Embassador, Benjamin (if he sees it as a good opportunity) will attempt to help protect the civilians/ pilots while they also try to escape.]

I will be away from this Thursday until next Tuesday, and probably won't be able to post until next Wednesday. (maybe this Wednesday if the update comes early in the day).

If case I don't get to post, here are Ben's short-term goals:

1) Make a connection via commlink to the Embassador or the Republican squad leader on the otherside of the blast doors to assess the situation (Is it safe to open the door? Are you all already dead?)?

2) If contact has been made and it seems safe enough, Ben will open the blast doors and grab the Embassador, and head quickly for the ship, deflecting blaster fire in an effort to protect the Embassador. (hoping the good doctor might fire into an incoming mandalorian crowd too)

3) If contact has not been made, Ben will use his farseeing power to see what is going on on the otherside of the blast doors.

4) If rescuing the Embassador seems absolutely futile, Ben will make his way to the ship, engaging the droid or the Mandalorian as needed.

5) Get the truck outta dodge!!

"Lookin' at these scrolls have made me more than a bit tired," replied Driscoll. "If th' Abbott be willin', I'd gladly take him up on an offer o' hospitality. A good story and a sheltered bed are hard to pass up, right. Th' village can wait until th' morrow."

Subject: Post in... it's decision time...

There was no more information to be gained from the abbot, nor the monastery… at least not at the moment. Still, while the information they had gleaned seemed like a puzzle of interconnected event, Driscoll was satisfied. The various stories they had read and the mystery of the reptile-men was enough to keep the swashbuckler interested.

Stretching his stiff limbs, Cole stood up from his stool, stretched the stiffness from his limbs, and spoke, “Friends, I think we have all th’ information we’re going t’ find in this library for now. Seems t’ me it’d be time t’ make a decision on what we do next, right.”

Cole brought the old map of the village back to the top of the scrolls. “While there be many pieces t’ this mystery here in th’ village…” He moved his finger and pointed to the wizard’s tower. “I say we head back and start here, hmmm. Try t’ find th’ ol’ tower, right. See if we can’t make somethin’ of it.” A twinkle appeared in his eyes. “We got story o’ a mighty sword, but I’m bettin’ th’ ol’ wizard had a few more trinkets well worth lookin’ int’, that th’ storyteller probably didn’t know nothin’ ‘bout, right. Wizards always be keepin’ things a secret.” The rogue clapped Cassandra on the back as he continued, “Ain’t that so, Cassandra?”

“And while we’re at it, I figure we’d settle int’ th’ village for a bit. Let th’ townsfolk know we’re o’ th’ friendly sort… and more than just ‘bout stirrin’ up trouble for them, right.”

He paused for a moment before going on, “Sound find t’ you all?”

Benjamin smiled inside as the oversized Cat was knocked off his feet. As the Jedi came to stand over his opponent, he said, “You underestimate the Jedi’s training, Dark One. Your confidence will be your undoing.”

With one arm bringing his lightsaber diagonally behind his back, Benjamin prepared to knock the Cat down again should he try to stand again while looking for an opening to end this dual quickly. Normally, Benjamin may have been inclined to let his opponent up again, or at least asking for their surrender. But the Jedi knew the Togorian would rather die than surrender and, the fact was, Benjamin was worried about the Embassador and needed to get off this ship quickly.

His distracting thoughts where brought forcefully back to the dual at hand when Benjamin suddenly felt the dark, seething anger of the Sith’s power projected at him. Instinctively, the Jedi rebuked the dark power, sending the electrical force back at the Sith Lord, causing the prone cat’s body to spasm. Smoke and the smell of charred flesh rose from the now still and lifeless Togorian.

Benjamin caught his breathe for a brief moment, ensuring that the body of the Cat would not move again. Surveying the scene around him, the Jedi Knight opened up a secure channel to the Embassador on his comlink and made a quick search of the Sith Lord’s possessions.

“Embassador, we have nearly secured the hanger and have secured the shuttle. I am about to open the hatch. Are you ready to leave?”

[OOC: Changed my mind…but I’m not sure how much I can do in this round. I’m looking to make a quick search of the Sith’s possessions. If it will go quicker, Benjamin will just grab any belt, backpack, pouches right now and search through the stuff later. With any remaining actions I’d like Benjamin to make a run for the hatch (but not open it until he has heard back for the Embassador). Total defense action]
