Topic: Dawn of Defiance: The Traitor's Gambit
Subject: Still haven't found what your searching for...

Ara'ala searched ceiling briefly for a venting shaft that she and her companions might enter in and skirt around these guards. While she had no trouble finding venting shafts, the Arkanian noted that none of them appeared to cross into the storage bay. It appeared that the storage bay had it's own venting system.

Topic: A Local Legend - Q/A
Subject: So... just checking...

Couple questions:

1) Driscoll is now hiding out behind the 4th basket along the right side of the cave, steps away from entering into the cave with the rug?

2) The cave/room with the rug is brightly lit, yes?

3) Where the heck did my ranks in Hide and Move Silently go?!?!?! Just kidding! When I posted my action I did think I had a few ranks in both of those skills, but having looked over his sheet again, I remember not putting any down. I figured a +5 dex bonus was more than plenty.

4) About how far away are the manlizards from Driscoll? and from the other three?

Thanks!

Hey gang,

Here's a few comments:

1) There is no venting shaft to get into... at least none that you can see along the corridor.

2) Bluffing past is an option... not sure if you'll have as much luck with the pigs as you did with the troopers.

3) I'd encourage you to re-read through Maya's commentary on the Storage Bay as perhaps being helpful on the current situation.

4) The scene with the Stormtroopers and Ara made me laugh a bit. When Ara lied about where they were heading, I rolled a persuasion check with a DC of 14. Ara rolled a natural 20. Figured she had somehow managed to "charm" the trooper. Anyway... nice post, Ginafae.

Enjoy!

Cole agreed with Tami, "Aye... I didn't notice any other tunnels either, lass."

Regarding the suggestion to lay out tribute for the manlizards, Cole responded with another suggestion, "Hmmm. What if y' 'old off on th' tradin' 'til I 'ave 'ad a chance t' take a look-see in t' them baskets. I'm thinkin' I might b' able t' sneak 'round without raisin' any alarms, right?"

[OOC: Cole's suggesting that he move silently and hide amongst the baskets, checking out their contents and also to see if he can get a better look into the next area. (or notice anything else in the room) What do you think, Brianna / DM?? ]

Brianna, I thought you signed up to play the fighter. And DM signed up for the Bard. (or the other way around)

I think you can look at page 1 of the recruitment thread to see what everyone is signed up as (as far as classes go).

We do have:
a gnome cleric (Hammer)
an elven druid (Nimu)
a wizard (Shadowdragon)
a half-elven ranger (Nomad)
and a rogue (Me)

Hope that helps!

Topic: Star Wars: Dark Masques
Subject: Reply to Arruna, looking to move forward

Benjamin turned back to the Twi’lek woman as she began to shout at him. He had hoped Arruna would have understood his need for discretion, but it seemed she did not. Listening politely until she was finished, his eyes continued to scan the area for trouble or anyone taking an interest in the heated Twi’lek.

When Arruna was finished, Benjamin replied disarmingly, “My apologies, Arruna,” he bowed. “I did not realize how much this upset you. Nor was I trying to insult you with my words. Let me try again.” He paused before continuing.

“Arruna, I appreciate the help you provide us in securing the safety of the Embassador off the Capital Ship. You placed your life at risk for us as you battled the Mandalorians and their battle droids alongside of us. Thank you,” the Jedi said with a nod.

“With regards to the Mandalorians attacking your planet and the Embassador’s ship, I cannot speak with certainty that it was because of the Embassador’s present mission. It may have, and, if so, I apologize for the danger in which you were placed. I have deep sorrow about all the lives lost on board the ship and for those caught up in the destruction of your planet.” Benjamin shook his head, “Sadly, words cannot return the dead to life, nor can I offer a sum to heal this wound.”

“As to who was behind the Mandalorian attack, I cannot answer that question with complete certainty either. I can say that the Togorian we met in the hanger was definitely Sith-trained, and well trained at that. The cat’s arrogance was his undoing.”

“And now about my mission,” Benjamin paused to allow Arruna to look deep into his eyes,to see that there was no deception in his words. “My mission is to escort and protect the Embassador with my life, unless instructed to do otherwise by either the Embassador or my master. The actual purpose of the Embassador’s mission is his own, and is not mine to share.”

“So, Arruna,” he continued gently. “We find ourselves at an impasse – you desire certain knowledge which I am unwilling to share with you. I wish that it were not the case. I wish that you could understand my motives for keeping the Embassador’s business his business. I wish the times were not so dark for the Republic that one did not have to have secret meetings and confidential information. But, sadly, these are the times we live in.”

“However, perhaps there could be an arrangement made between us that could be mutually beneficial,” Benjamin paused to look over at the Embassador for approval. Receiving a nod from the Khil, the Jedi continued, “Perhaps you might be interested in continuing to journey with us until we reach our destination. I believe you may have a unique set of skills which might be of use to the Embassador. Compensation for your time would need to be worked out with the Embassador, but if for no other reason, it would give you a chance to start over. What do you say?”

[OOC: Assuming Kate is listening in as well]

Benjamin turned to the droid as well, “How about it, Kate? Interested in continuing this relationship?”

[OOC:

Loki – Not trying to be an ass here, just the character. Benjamin will not share with Arruna the information contained on the disc no matter how convincing her arguments. Should the Embassador choose to share the information with Arruna, that will be his choice.

Skari – I hope the offer of “employment” to Kate and Arruna is okay. Just trying to keep the group together. I don’t know what kind of compensation the Embassador can offer, hopefully something…

Addy – Where are you, man? ]

Subject: What about the rest of y'all?

Hey, just curious what races y'all are choosing?

I've got about 4 different ideas running through my head for this rogue character, each based on a different race.

So far, I've narrowed it down to these four:

1) Dwarf Rogue -- A Professional Troubleshooter
2) Elf Rogue -- A Government Spy / Infiltrator
3) Half-Elf Rogue [Human Lineage] -- A Shadow Warrior
4) Half-Orc Rogue -- A Pit Fighter

So, what races are the rest of you thinking of playing?

While Skari didn't post, I'm assuming Mars is along for the ride. While Mars is the one that has noted the guards, the containers, and the doorway up the corridor, I'm also assuming that he has relayed the informtion to the other two.

Is my description at the end of the post clear enough for you all as a set up for this scenario or do you need another PAINT map?

Next update will be Sunday, June 28. And one more on July 1. After that I will be gone on a work-related trip, updating the game on July 12.

Enjoy!

Topic: Dawn of Defiance: The Traitor's Gambit
Subject: Deck N14

“Deck N15,” Ara’ala said smoothly with a sweet smile.

The trooper bit his lip a bit and gave the mechanic a lecherous grin. Pushing the buttons for Deck N15, he continued chatting up the Arkanian, “You been on the Sel long?”

[OOC: Insert reply…]

“Hmmm,” came the man’s reply, his focus on Ara’s slender frame rather than words coming out of her mouth. “Really… Nice.”

The lift came to a sudden stop at the Promenade again, and the stormtroopers got ready to exit. The one “conversing” with Ara’ala gave the woman an invite as he left, “I’m getting off now… I’d like to get off later too, you know what I’m saying. Shift ends in about two hours. Why do you meet us down at Moise’s when you finish up?”

The trooper’s partner gave the man a cuff upside the back of the head, “Let’s go, let’s go.”

The trooper’s focus didn’t change a bit. “Sound good?” he asked Ara’ala.

[OOC: Again… insert reply…]

The stormtroopers finally got off the lift, the doors finally closed, and the companions were finally alone. As the lift moved passed the Promenade, the deck number shifted from the P decks to the N decks.

[OOC: I’m assuming one of you inserts the code for Deck N14…]

The rest of the lift ride last another two minutes, and is uneventful with no other stops along the way.

The lift doors open at Deck N14, revealing a very neglected part of the station. Many of the lights have burned out, and blaster marks and carbon scoring mar the walls, ceiling, and floor. The area reeks of ozone and electrical fires, and the companions regularly have to avoid pools of Cyanoxis D-587 and other coolants which litter the hallways.

After winding their way through a near-labyrinth of decrepit, almost post-apocalyptic corridors, the three “maintenance workers” arrive at what seems to be the entrance to the storage bay. Peering around the corner, Mars notes a pair of Gammorreans guarding the doors. They are wielding what looks like vibro-axes, but it is difficult to make out in the dim lighting.

From their position, the companions are about seventy-five feet away from the thugs and the entrance to the storage bay. The corridor is about twenty feet wide and ten feet high. Nearly twenty feet away from the companions, up the corridor and to the left, is a stack of abandoned containment crates (10’x10’x6’). Nearly fifty feet up the corridor and to the right, there seems to be an entrance door to a room of some sort (it’s door is off and laying flat on the floor).

The Gamorrean guards do not seem to have noticed the heroes yet.

[OOC: Alright… now what?]

One of the troopers gave Ara'ala a look that indicated he was in a hurry and a bit impatient. The word that came out of his mouth was "Yeah..." but his eyes added an "obviously! Now would you hurry up!"

"What floor?" asked the other trooper with a smile towards Ara'ala. The Arkanian could tell that he was not in such a hurry.

I do have a couple of ideas for this rogue character!

Hey! I've got a few more questions:

1) When do you want our completed character sheets turned in to you?

2) With a half-elf character, does the +2 to CHA checks under the Racial Ability "Empathy" apply to all CHA checks (including CHA-based saves) or just to diplomacy/interaction checks?

Thanks!

Man! Here I thought we might be able to use the ranger to give us GODMODE. So much for that idea!

Hey! Why don't we send him in first as a distraction? That could be fun...

No?

Hmmm...

Alright. Well... DM? Brianna? Got any ideas on how we should approach this encounter? We've got a cleric, a bard/fighter, and a scout/ swashbuckler. I have a funny feeling your character aren't going to make their hide and move silently checks.

What spells do you got handy, Brianna? I was thinking a nice spiritual hammer in the middle of them might be cool. Or some kind of obscuring mist? Or Darkness? Or a cool explosive fire spell?

What do you two think?

Almerin,

Saw your update! Thanks!

Couple questions:

1) Is there any covering between where our characters are and the two man-lizards? Is there any covering that we might use to sneak around the outer edge of the room and avoid the man-lizards? How far away are these two man-lizards?

2) Which PCs are actually along for this "ride" now? Just Isi,Tami, and Cole? Or are you NPCing some of the others?

Thanks!

Update is up. I imagine this to a quick round of IC posts.

You can discuss here on the Q/A, what you'd like to do as a team. Or just post IC.

GENERAL INFORMATION YOUR CHARACTERS WOULD KNOW:

1) The elevator can EASILY accommodate the three companions and the stormtroopers(and then some). Your characters would guess that up to 15 human-esque types could fit comfortably on the lift.

2) The elevator ride will likely last 2 - 5 minutes depending on how many stops itmakes along the way.

As far as initiative goes, whoever posts first, goes first. So, if more than one of you decides to speak to the stormtroopers, I'll be going by order of post.

Consider your moves carefully...

Topic: Dawn of Defiance: The Traitor's Gambit
Subject: An inconvenience...

Having heard Maya, and having agreed to help, the companions made their plans quickly. Deciding to disguise themselves as maintenance workers, they went to work, collecting the needed items to complete their outfits. Ara’ala oversaw her friends’ labours, adding a pair of welding goggles to Ithiria and a half-faced gas-filtration mask to Mars.

Taking a few minutes, the mechanic from Arkania disassembled the blaster carbine she had picked up earlier, carefully memorizing how the weapon fit together so that she could reassemble it at a later time. She also grabbed another medpac to replace the one she had used on the Promanade.

When the companions seemed ready to go, Maya saw them to the door. “Remember: Don’t use the comm frequency until you have secured the package. Good luck!” She looked at Mars specifically as she finished, “I hope to see you all soon.”

The companions made their way swiftly to the main elevator shaft. They passed by a number of the station’s citizens, including a few stormtroopers. Ara’ala’s disguises seemed to be holding up, though, as no one seemed to pay the three maintenance workers any attention.

Mars pushed the elevator call button, and the three of them waited briefly for a lift to arrive. A light indicated that the lift had arrived and they anxiously waited for the doors to open, eager to get off this deck.

As the doors open, the companions are greeted by their worst fear – four stormtroopers stand on the lift talking to each other. Once the doors fully open, two of the troopers exit off on the deck, but the other two make no motion to leave.

[OOC: Alright... so! Now what? See the Q/A board for more details...]

So... no update from me yet. Sorry about that. I had planned to update over the weekend, but that wasn't working so well.

Anyway... I'll have an update up by Sunday PM and we'll get this story moving along.

Regarding Jedi... just so we're clear, the Jedi are a very recent memory in the galaxy. As far as a time frame goes, we're closer to Anakin becoming Darth Vader than we are to Luke being a whiny teenager. Luke is probably still in diapers at this time.

I think you folks handled it well IC. Though, it did assume that Ithiria has kept it a secret that she herself is a Jedi... which is fine. It will make it interesting when that secret comes to light.

Anyway... as usual, nice IC interaction! Very fun section of dialogue there!

Subject: Equipping our characters and starting XP

Hey Hammer,

Having read the C&C Players Book, I'll sign up, if you'll have me. Not 100% sure on what kind of character yet. Rogue, Barbarian, Monk, and Knight all stand out right now.

Couple questions:

1)Equipping Characters: do we start out with the max 1st level standard gold as per class? Is there another method to determining our starting gold? Are we allowed to buy expertly-made weapons/ armor?

2) Starting Experience: Do our characters start with the minimum XP needed to acheive 3rd level or 5501 xp? (the min needed to be a 3rd lvl paladin... the most required for a class to acheive 3rd level). At 5501 xp, everyone will be at 3rd level, though adding the 2500 xp in addition to it, will cause an few of the classes to bump up to level 4.

Thanks!
(please let me know if I'm in and I'll begin working on the character)

[OOC: Just a quick reply to Arruna. I'm kinda waiting on Addy to reply to the Khil...]

Benjamin turned toward the accusing Twi'lek. Perceptive little girl, he thought internally. Not very discreet, but definitely perceptive...

The Jedi replied as one who was used to weilding authority -- his words were even and measured, "You are mistaken, Arruna," he began. "I do not owe you an explanation of my business. If anything, you owe a debt of thanks to the Embassador for given you refuge on his ship while your planet was being bombarded by the Mandalorians. And we all owe a debt of thanks to the good Doctor for the safe transportation to this planet and his handling of the port authorities. You should be thankful that you are alive at all"

Pausing for a moment, he continued, "As for being tracked down and tortured by the Mandalorians due to myself or the Embassador and our current mission... it is possible, though unlikely. Besides, even if our mission was valuable enough that someone would come track you down to know our location, they would still torture and kill you regardless of what you knew."

"As it stands now, Arruna, I see no reason to provide you with the information you seek."

The Jedi gave the Twi'lek woman a nod and looked to turn back to the conversation with the Doctor.

Tomorrow is my last day to be around for questions. I'll likely only be able to respond once in the morning (maybe), and definitely tomorrow night.

I'll be posting an update on Sunday. Unless I see something different, I'll be going with the "dress up as mechanics" idea from Ginafae. I know, Geriant, that you believe a Twi'lek in a mech-suit looks suspicious, but unless you comeup with an alternative plan that still keeps the three of you together, that's the one I'm going with.

Good luck, folks! I'm looking forward to Sunday as it will move us (hopefully) in Scene 2 of our story! Yay story progression!

Alright. Maya’s given you a lay of the land and offer you the space to resupply and heal a bit before heading out.

A quick survey of the room reveals the following items of note:

4 Medpacs
6 Mechanics / Maintenance uniforms of various sizes.
1 Hydrospanner
1 Handheld welding torch
1 Basic datapad
1 Box of glowrods (10)
5 Power packs
1 Box of power cells (20)

FOR THE NEXT UPDATE:
While you may post your reactions and questions for Maya in character, you can equally do that here on the Q/A board.

In fact, what I am hoping from you all before the next upate is that you, as players, will converse with each other OOC and develop a plan for how your want to approach N-14 and the storage bay. Please include which items from the above list you are adding to your inventory. You also have time to heal up your character should you desire. Please indicate that in your OOC post too. I’ll incorporate you OOC posts/ plan in my next update. (so, no IC post is necessary, though it is welcome)

My next update will be Sunday, June 14 after 9 PM EST and before Monday, June 15, Noon EST. Please post your questions by Thursday, June 11, as I will definitely be away Friday and Saturday, and will be busy all Sunday.

Thanks again for your quick post up!
