Hey! Great!

Well, there ya go, Loki, my apologies. Everything was right in character by the looks of things. I'll go on to reply now then.

But, maybe it is, cause I'm bringing it up...

Anyway, Loki, I'm sure you have nothing but good intentions for some neat roleplaying and good storytelling with your two most recent posts. I'll admit, you definitely gave me some insight into your Twi'lek. And having the extra disk was a nice gesture.

However, I think you might be "meta-gaming" a bit. Here's what I mean: I'm not sure she would have seen the transaction between the Khil and the Jedi. If you follow the order of posts, you stated that Arruna'dira had "darted off" after the good Doctor and Kate. Skari then posted that Milix tells Benjamin to go on with the others as well, as the Jedi will be of more use to them. He then slips "something" into the Jedi's robes and speaks to Benjamin about what that something is.

So, one: I doubt Arruna'dira would have seen the transaction between the Jedi and the Khil as she would have been moving away from them to chase away the doctor and the droid.

And two: even if she did see "something" being slipped into Benjamin's robes, I doubt she would have heard any of the conversation.

So, I guess I'm saying, I doubt think anyone knows Benjamin is carrying the datacard. Skari's post seems to suggest that the Khil was trying to be a bit subtle about it.

Anyway... this post is WAY longer than I wanted it to be. And, really, it's not that big of a deal. I really do like Arruna'dira, I like the social-class struggle between her and the good Doctor (if you two can keep that tension without it sabotaging game play, it should be a cool piece of the story line!), and I like the energy you bring to our "virtual" table.

So, yeah, I'm not looking for you to edit your posts or anything, Benjamin will probably just shrug off the Twi'lek's questions.

After the lizardmen had left, Driscoll casually, yet keeping his wits about him, walked down to the place where the tribute had been, inspecting the area. It was a bloody mess to be sure, and there was little more left in the dune sand then the bloodied tracks of the creatures.

Hmmm… Cole had hoped for more. Returning to his companions, he spoke up, “Nothin’ down there to help.” He paused for a moment. “Though, I’ll be honest, I’ve heard tales of creatures such as these. Not seen them myself, mind you… well, ‘cept for maybe tonight.

“We were traveling ‘round the Macoran, staying close to th’ shore. Th' ship seen a beatin’ when we were passin’ ‘tween the peninsula and Tabla-Ri, a rough stretch to be sure. So, we were anchored down one night near th’ Swamps of Kedesh, just north of th’ Blood, hmm?

“Right. Captain was ‘fraid th’ mast wouldn’t stand up ‘gainst th’ comin’ storm. So, he ordered us to find some shelter quick like.

“Men didn’t like it much. They’d told tales ‘bout the lizard-beast-men of the swamp, bloodthirsty barbarian types, that could split a man in two with them claws. We kept an extra one on th’ nest that night, just keepin’ watch of th’ shore and th’ woods."

Cole shifted back to the present, “Now, these things, they be a little too north of th’ Swamps for me to be sayin’ their the lizard-beast-men th’ men were whisperin' ‘bout, Right? But they match th’ description, if not th’ location.

“I agree with Isi. Let’s head back to th’ monastery. Maybe they’ll be a bit more helpful in solvin’ this mystery, hmm?

He clapped Perrin on the back, “If your brothers be even half as good as you, I’m sure there’ll be a tale or two written down for us to read.” Reigning in his horse, he winked at the ladies, “And I am always up for a good tale, hmm?

“Right! Let’s ride.”

Got hit with a coupleof big projects at work this week. Will be back to posting Monday AM.

I have "filler/ RP" stuff to post, but nothing that would shift the direction of the party any bit. Cole's good about heading back to the monestary.

Maybe two questions/ sugguestions though:

1) Maybe we should examine the area where the "payment" was made more closely, see if the lizardfolk left anything behind.

2) I'd like to roll a Knowledge [Nature] and maybe a knowledge [Geography] check for Driscoll to see if he recognizes the "creatures". Are they something he has come across before in his travels?

Anyway, feel free to update.

I'd go with Skari-dono's suggestion and only need a new cell pack if you roll a fumble. Why?

1) Way easier on the GM! One less thing to keep track of.

2) SAGA Edition has that "heroic" feel to it, almost like Mutants & Masterminds (not quite "super" heroic, but a "larger than life" feel).

3) SAGA Edition also seems to be more stream-lined than D20. I'm actually surprised your suggestion, SD, is not the standard of the book.

Anyway, I care not, as Benjamin won't be using a blaster often (I hope).

Also, sorry for not posting. I got a couple projects dumped on me this week. But they're all done by Sunday thankfully, so I will be back at it by Monday AM (maybe sooner, but don't hold your breath).

Some comments and questions:

Activity XP: I think this is a fine idea. Play-by-post games are always slow moving and I think one of the frustrating for some players (myself included) is the slow rate of advancement of characters. The idea of earning 100+ xp each week (50+ xp x 2 posts) is not bad. 10xCharacter Level would be even more incentive . Really, that means in a month we’ll only receive 800ish xp. Anyway, my point is: In online games I prefer a DM who is a bit freer with the XP than not, and I think rewarding players for active, meaningful posting is a great idea.

No Attacks of Opportunity: I don’t mind this idea. Though, would you be willing to let us modify our characters to reflect this rule change. Attacks of Opportunity cover more than just movement. You get attacks of opportunity for tripping folks, when they stand up from prone positions, when they attack unarmed, etc. Would this rule negate ALL attacks of opportunity? Or just AoO triggered by movement through threatened squares? Like I said, I don’t mind this rule, but I would like some time to go over my character and (perhaps) make some modification to reflect this change. As an aside, Benjamin WOULD take issue with this rule change, as it will make his work as a bodyguard more difficult (with enemies just rushing past him and attacking the Khil).

Movements, or lack there of (or “How do I get this Khil off my back”): I have a question of game play. So far (and I know it’s early in the game), I have felt that Benjamin is fairly tied to the Khil as the embassador’s bodyguard. This led me to post that Benjamin hung back in the first combat scene to protect the embassador, while I personally wanted to run up and slice through some Mandalorian armor, Benjamin feared that doing so might not allow him to adequately protect the Khil should the enemy had suddenly shown up on the other end of the hallway too.

In the current scene, while I want to go with the rest of the group and fine a way into the hanger, Benjamin feels tied to the Khil once again, and is likely to stay behind and ensure the embassador’s safety – uncertain that the Republican mooks can handle this Mandalorian threat AND protect Milix at the same time.

While, as a player, this feels somewhat boring, anything other feels out-of-character. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m not trying to be boring, but, well, bodyguard work is not very glamorous.

Subject: Driscoll's thoughts

Driscoll shifted his weight from leaning against his horse while he watched the Syl druid walked away. “Nice enough, fellow,” he commented to no one in particular. “Lil’ patronizing, but…”

Cole finished the thought in his head, But that’s fairly standard for a Syl.

Gracefully mounting his horse, Cole looked over his companions as they decided where to go from here. The general consensus seemed to be to “wait and see” what was “plaguing” the villagers, and the minor noble from Visdan merely nodded his assent to the idea. “If we’re going to play ‘wait and see’ though, I’d rather we not look to cleanse the village of whatever besets them tonight. The people don’t need another group of meddlers.”

[OOC: Cole is content to “wait and see”, though he’d rather the party not attack unless attacked first. The people don’t want our help, so let’s not meddle.

Cole doesn’t really care where we set up watch. He’s not one for detailed planning, preferring to improvise. He’ll agree to pretty much any idea that doesn’t include setting up watch within the village. He might not follow through on all of this... But he will agree to it!

Hey, sorry, I was writing my post while you posted the above and didn't see it until after I posted.

I'm still pretty much going with the same game plan (Embassador stays out of the line of fire, Jedi covers Twi'lek and redirects shots back on the enemy... will Ben's improved battlefield medition help in this scene or will it not count for anything? {it gives +1 attack to all allies and -1 to all enemies within 12 squares [60 ft] of Ben at the time he initiates the class feature until the end of the encounter}

Subject: Pressing on...

As the last of the Mandalorians fell, Benjamin helped the Embassador to his feet.

"My ship is in a hangar on the other side of the ship," the Khil said. "I do not believe we have time to get there.” Looking at the Ithorian medic, Cardass continued, "I would very much appreciate your offer, good sir.”

"Then it's settled,” replied the Doctor. “Grab what you can and let's go."

Benjamin continued to stay close to Embassador Cardass as they waited for the others to “grab what they could” from their dead foes. The Jedi saw little need in taking the Mandalorians’ gear, but he did not judge the others.

When they were finally ready to move on, Benjamin kept the Khil between the Wookiee bodyguard and himself, following the Ithorian as he led the way to the hanger. The maze of corridors led them past a few Republican soldiers, men who knew they faced death without hope. Benjamin thought of calling on them to follow and protect the Embassor, but thought the better of it, hoping instead that they might slow the advance of their foe. They did not know the importance of their Embassador’s mission… have no idea how important their life-sacrifice would be… Benjamin did. And while it pained him to think of all those would who perish today, he believed that their deaths would not be in vain.

As they approached the hanger, the Jedi noted that the control panel for the blast doors was ruined. The Twi’lek woman had notice too, and set to work right away, barking out orders at the same time.

"Get out the bleeding way, let me to that panel,” she stated. “Embassador, stay by me, Jedi, defend us both or none of us'll survive this mess."

Benjamin smiled inwardly. She’s a resourceful one, for sure…

Before the Embassador could step out in front of the blast door, Benjamin stopped him. “I would not advise that, Embassador. The area is too open; you’d be too exposed. I would prefer it if you stayed here, behind the protection of this wall.”

[OOC: Benjamin is indicating that the Embassador keep his back against the wall, out of sight from the hallway branching outwards from the door.]

Looking over, Benjamin called over the squad leader. “Commander, I need two of your best men to stay here and protect the Embassador. It is mission critical that he must make it safely off this ship alive.”

Continuing on, the Jedi stated, “I need you to lead the rest of your men in concentrating their fire on clearing this hallway.” He indicated the hallway branching outwards away from the door. “I’ll look to protect the Twi’lek while she works the panel.”

Stepping behind the Twi’lek girl, Benjamin made a fluid turn on his feet to face the hallway and the oncoming blaster fire, igniting his lightsaber and as he did. Facing his foe, the Jedi gathered the Force around himself, allowing it to settle on those around him.

“For the Republic, men!”

[OOC: As it stands right now, Benjamin is standing “back to back” with the Twi’lek, facing the hallway that branches outwards from the blast door. He’s igniting his lightsaber and using his improved battlefield mediation to affect all allies and enemy within 12 “squares”. He himself with be looking to dodge and reflect back any shot that come towards him or the Twi’lek.]

Subject: Calculations

see page 36 of the SAGA RPG book. Everyone of the PCs should have all of their saves above 20, unless they have an ability score that gives minuses.

For my jedi, his base scores for each of his saves, with out ability modifiers, equals 23.

10 (base) + 10 (heroic level) +1 (jedi class bonus) +2 (jedi knight class bonus) +X (relevant ability modifier) = 23 +X

For Benjamin:
Refl = 23 +4 (dex) = 27
Fort = 23 +2 (con) = 25
Will = 23 +4 (wis) = 27

I don't know how easy it would be to fit in a new character, but I'd be interested in a "rogue" type. Cidal or gnome, probably. Either a rogue or beguiler as the "main" class, with fighter or ranger mixed in for good fun.

What do you say?

As it seemed to Benjamin that his unlikely "team" of resistance was likely overcome their foes soon, the Jedi's mind continued to consider the Ithorian's offer.

"Ambassador, I think..." A blast from a combat droid interrupted Benjamin for a moment. Shifting slightly to crouch down, he moved his lightsaber diagnally, bringing the one end down near the Ambassador's head. Absorbing the impact of the laser, Benjamin brought his weight back up to center, pushing the lightsaber forward to redirect the fire back at the droid. The blaster bolt pentrated past the droid shields, hitting it square in the torso.

"Ambassador, I believe that we should soon be ready to move again. What are you thoughts on the doctor's offer?"

[OOC: Benjamin will continue to do more of the same... looking to protect the Ambassador and himself by redirecting fire. Should any of the foes approach their position, Bejamin will engage in melee.]

Benjamin felt the oncoming blaster bolt, as his Jedi training took over every muscle in his body. Shifting his body slightly to the right, his hands reached over behind his head so that the blade of his lightsaber was positioned where his torso once was. He sensed the laser blast connect with the blade, felt the fluid motion of his wrists twisting to redirect it back at the droid. With satisfaction, he watched as the laser fire connected with his target

With grace, the Jedi guardian returned once again to his balanced, defensive stance. He considered engaging the Crusaders in melee combat, but decided that staying close to the Ambassador was his best course of action for the moment.

[OOC: Benjamin will continue to look to protect the Ambassador, redirecting any shots fired their way back. I think I can spend a force point if need be in order to use my block and deflect moves to deflect blaster fire aimed the Ambassador.]

Subject: the Jedi guardian guards

Benjamin listened carefully to the Ithorian’s offer to evacuate the Ambassador and himself off the starship. He’s got a point… the Mandalorians would probably expect the Ambassador to try and escape on his own ship, it would surely make for an easy target for the Crusader fighter. But this medical ship… that just might work…

Benjamin looked to the Ambassador for input, but before he could get a response an explosion at the end of the corridor drew his attention away. In a fluid motion, the Jedi’s right hand withdrew and ignited his lightsaber, while he calmly, yet firmly, guided the Ambassador with left hand to the cover provided by the nearest wall support beam.. “Please, Ambassador Cardass, lay down here, behind this support beam. It will serve to protect you.”

Benjamin placed himself beside the wall support beam, trying to provide the Ambassador with even more cover from the blaster fire. With both end of his lightsaber ignited, the Jedi guardian braced himself to deflect the incoming fire.

[OOC: I’m hoping that by lying prone behind the wall, the ambassador’s chance of getting hit by ranged attack will be next to nil. Benjamin is looking to redirect blaster fire back at the enemy. If one of them should move into a space threatened by Benjamin, he’ll engage in melee combat as well.]

Subject: Questions and intentions...

QUESTIONS

1) How far away are the crusaders and combat droids?

2) Are they advancing on our position or just firing from the door?

3) How far away is the nearest exit? (excluding the one that the enemy just came through) And does Benjamin know where it leads? (or anyone else for that matter)

4) If we wanted to go back the way we came, how far is it?

5) If we wanted to get to the hanger, would we have to get past these crusaders and combat droids?

6) Where does the Khil ambassador fit into the initiative order, or is he just going to stand there?

7) How familiar is Benjamin with the lay of the ship. I'm assuming he traveled here on it. And he has probably been on starships like it. Does he know his way around the starship? (I don't personally, but I could make stuff up)

INTENTIONS

Benjamin's intention is to instruct the Ambassador to find cover by the wall. Depending on how far away the enemy is and whether or not they are advancing on our position, Benjamin will likely spend his round covering the Khil and trying to redirect blaster fire back at the Crusaders / Combat Droids.

I'll post tomorrow or Friday, depending on the response to the above questions.

I noted that on my character sheet my initiative said +4. It should have read +14 (as Benjamin has it as a trained skill). I've corrected it on his sheet.

Don't know if it made a difference in the encounter (don't really care either). I'm sure it will work out fine.
