The light rhythmic fall of the rain lessened on the roof othe Sword & Sheathe Taphouse as the conversation continued on between the group and the dwarven

woman.

“What is your brother’s name and where do you suppose we will find him?”

“May we also ask your name, ma’am? I am Aphelia Thorne… no relation to any other Thornes.”

"Aye, I'm Rhea (ray-uh) Swiftstone, my brother is Thondred, same surname. He's quartermaster up at the Rest so it shouldn't be too hard to track him down, it's not as if they're still at the keep afterall."

With that her face gives off an obvious sign of worry and concern, and rightly so. The events that transpired at the keep are common knowledge, all three of the party knowing enough of the story. Even with the monthly slips through the veil the Wardens were doing well enough to hold back any attacks, the assailants having the cunning and organization equal to a pack of hungry animals. Understandably so, the attack three months prior caught everyone off guard. An organized attack with a feint lured away Warden forces, and a main body of daemonic entities attacking the main defensive structure called the Keep, ensured that it was overwhelmed and almost everyone inside slain. A few camp followers and non-combatants survived through clever hiding, soon after the Warden's Rest was established across the river. The outriding force of Wardens were all that remained of a fighting force, roughly thirty warriors remaining.

“Lovely. And is there any other message you would like us to give your brother when we see him? Oh, and we should probably learn what he looks like as well. Should we… practice any sort of caution when giving this to him? Wouldn’t want to be thrown out on the first day, would we?”

(low insight roll) Rhea smiled weakly and shook her head slightly. "No, nothing out of the ordinary. Just some family belongings that need to make it to him before Moonfest. In his haste he forgot a few things, that's all. If you could just tell him that we're thinking of him and there's always a seat at my taphouse for when he gets back, I would appreciate it greatly."

As the conversation wound down and the group accepted the parcel, pay excluded, they decided enough time has passed and they needed to make it back to the wagons. Upon exiting the Sword and Sheathe the pleasant smell of horse dung, wet trodden mud, and soaked hay permeated the area. Fortunately, at this point the rain had stopped completely leaving just a grey overcast sky.

The last of the wagon group was loading up, fellow recruits heaving themselves up into the back of the transport wagon while Anuil Xin gave a step up to another, helping him climb up the side of the middle wagon. Two of the three wagons were large canvased covered with wooden framed skeletons, enough just to cover the contents fom the elements, treated with a paste smeared upon the outside to help resist fires and water alike. The middle wagon looked almost the same, except the framework supported a platform in the center, which upon it a ballista was mounted. enough room to house a stool with three of the four sides protected by a 3 foot wooden wall, this rotating armament could be aimed and fired in any direction all around, up and down. These weapon platforms were common among the more well off caravans, and have proven well enough to warrant the expense.

From deep within the city, two deep rings rang out, the Timing Towers of Neverine striking 2nd bell. Anuil looked around, wiping away a few strands of wet hair from the front of his face and into his top knot, and bellowed out.

"Alright those Warden bound, strap up and say your good byes we're headin' off!" With that he began hoisting himself to the front wagon and after a few moments, drove the horses northwards.

In the back of the passenger wagon, eleven recruits sat. The pair of elves looked around taking in the people around them, they themselves pale skinned with violet eyes, the most striking difference with one's hair being black as coal and the other with hair of lilac. Both dressed in the fine dark toned

clothing of Erevan, acolytes of the elven deity. One spoke up, his speech annunciating every syllable and voice very matter of fact.

"Seems one would rather risk the gallows than the Warden's Rest. I'm not sure which they have a better chance of surviving, but best to them regardless."

The wagon jerked and tossled the occupants, as one of the human travelers spoke up to the group. The figure was wearing leathers studded with metal plates, and had a sword resting in his lap, sheathed in plain worn leather. His wrinkled complection and salt and pepper greased back hair made him obviously well into his years.

"We're all headed to the same place here, how about we make ourselves known to each other. I am Duncan Lowrem, of Greyhook. Probably not known to most of you, a small hamlet east of Neverine. Nice to meet you all."

He nodded his head in a welcoming gesture to the ten others, and waited a moment for anyone else to speak. Before anyone could, one of the halfling occupants stood up and with no issue navigated from the back of the wagon to the exit where Neverine was now slowly shrinking in the distance. The small woman spoke, throwing the hood of her cloak up, covering her thick head of blonde short hair.

"Roads' fine to walk from here, Nice to meet ya'll but names at this point are nothin'."

She grabbed an apple from the fresh trail rations, muttering something under her breathe as she swung down to walk along the wagon, "..not even first night in..."  is all that's heard from those closest to the exit as she drops down.

The trio found their way into the nearby Sword & Sheathe Taphouse, a favorite of this district of Neverine and the locals who live outside the gate. Many travelers of all backgrounds find this place the last hot meal before a journey on the road, and make it a point to make sure it's the first hot meal when they come back. A similar scene unfolding once again with the three traveling companions filling their last hour with food and drink before they hit the open road.

The self playing piano continued to play, like a choir of sofltly chirping birds filling the air with enough sound to make quiet conversation comfortable between tables

“You two already look prepared for a battle at any moment. Have you seen many already? What brings you to the Wardens?”

As Aphelia spoke and the group made small conversation, their dwarven waittress dropped off a hot loaf of bread and thick slabs of butter. An appetizing meal for sure, but one that no one had ordered.

The dwarf woman, taller than normal for one of her folk and donning a face tattoo of woven intricate linework from her left eyebrow to her jaw line, spoke up.

"This ones on the house, enjoy some fine butter n' bread from NestleNook. Better n' any loaves you can get from inside the city I bet."

She smiled and courtsied slightly, her black shoulder blade length hair falling slightly in front of her face as she does.

"I apologize for asking, but from the looks of your gear and speakin' of the Wardens, are you heading to the Rest? I may have a small favor to ask if'n you are, just to bring my brother a parcel from our father if  that's n' alright. I'll pay of course! And either way yes or no, enjoy the bread, that's  a parting gift for the road."

She smiled warmly but with a nervousness behind it plain to see, and courtseyed again to the group.

14th of Uktar, 1105 GS, 'Year of the dark hunt'

Neverine City, north wall, outside the Ashen Gate

The flurry of activity outside the yawning entrance of the Ashen Gate was not stifled at all by the icy drizzle that clouded the mid-day sun. Oxen and horses were lashed to wagons and saddled up as the impromtu caravan that was fated to head north was thrown together. Mud began to cake the boots of caravaners as they loaded wagons with tools, dried goods, food, weapons, and most importantly the new lot of recruits headed to joint he ranks of 'Wardens of the Veil'.

Recruits is a term used lightly, as more dire the need has gotten for bodies to fend off the incursions, the requirements of any able-bodied persons has also deminished. In years past the ranks of the Wardens used to be filled with young nobles, veteran military heroes, and peak physical aspirants who met high standards of the exams. Now, with the veil thinning and attacks from beyond becoming almost monthly instead of annually, the warriors have been hard pressed to keep up such standards. Six years of constant battle and war with no respite in sight has led to any person able to hold a shield or level a crossbow being sent north. If the entirety of Neverine's military was focused on hemming in this issue, it surely would be solved in a short span of time. Unfortunately a looming threat that has assailed the nations of the Central Concord for eternity still bites at the heels of the great alliance today. Though quiet for the past few years, splinters of the Bladed Horde still throw themselves at the mouths of the Ebon-Shroud Vale. Goblins, small ruddy green/grey skinned creatures who value overwhelming numbers as their main tactics, harass the vulnerable patrols and farms that the great keeps of the north and south send out, probing for any massing threat. A small portion of them attempt to slip through the mountains, an even smaller number make it through. Even so, these bands of raiders cause mayhem to the inner grasslands and forests creating a constant need of patrols through the Vale entirely. If it weren't for such threat Neverine and her citizens wouldn't need to rely on such a motly assortment of 'recruits', the likes that congregate now at the Ashen Gate.

"Heard it was the other-kin again, gone n' slipped the veil south a' the Timberlands."

"Nah, don't be such ah' dolt, y'know none 'ave been seen'n comin' through anywhere past theh' rest. Probably some ruddy-skin n' held up in the woods 'round there."

Two dwarf guards dressed in the scale and leathers of the Emerald Eye, leaned against one of the pair of dark stone crenulated towers that flank the gate. They converse back and forth discussing rumors they've heard about the journey ahead, with word spread about some travelers along the Stoneway being assailed by an apparently unknown attacker.

"Cut that chatter, we need to keep our heads clear for the trip! None a' that down talkin', or Shaundakul will withdraw his blessing, surely."

A tall and portly man, Anuil Xin was the caravan master organizing the whole expedition. Adorned in hardened leather armors that could turn a blade but still malleable enough to navigate a wagon for hours on the road, he and his team of laborers loaded two of the three wagons full of the needed goods, and seven days worth of feed for the beasts of burden. The trip should only take six, but an extra day's worth was always welcome if needed. Anuil readjusted his top knot, his hair pulled back tightly to the back of his head, and walked through the growing puddles to the third wagon. Congregating in and around the back of the large passenger wagon was twelve would-be sword arms, destined to the Wardens. Looking like a disjointed group of would-be heroes, the group made up of five humans, three elves, three halflings, and a single dragonborn.

"Gather your things and load up, we're heading out in an hours time, once it rings two bells we're heading off!"

Anuil yelled to the group addressing no one in particular, and slapped the wagons side.

"Anything you need for the first few days for food n' drink should be loaded up in the back here, compliments of the Maiden for your trip. Make it last, nothin' you get will be as good as this on the road."

In two casks and several burlap sacks in the back of the covered wagon, fine quality ale and fresh apples and onions from the surrounding farms made up the higher quality trail rations they'd have for the road. Much of the other food was hardier, albeit lacking in taste.

Nine of the twelve made their way to various areas, either back into the Hammer ward that the Ashen Gate leads into, around the outside of the large western stone walls leading to the wooden palisaded village of NestleNook, or just climbing into the wagon, sullenly awaiting their fate in the north. Three of our party though, have yet to make up their minds on what to do. A young human woman with ties to some of the nobleage of Neverine, an elven woman who seems focused on a goal long in meeting, and a copper hued dragonborn citizen of Neverine, forged in the eyes of the clergy as a weapon meant to turn against just such a foe as they seek.

The three of them mingle about the entrance of the Gate, with an hours time to collect their thoughts, equipment, or say a final goodbye. If all goes well in six days, they will reach the remnants of their order and their new brothers in arms, headquarted at Warden's Rest.

~The Ebon-Shroud Vale~

Centered in the heart of Rayeskell, this mist covered valley is home to the last nation that made up the 'Alliance of Crowns'. Neverine City is the crown jewel at the center of the valley with a cosmopolitan population of humans, elves, dwarves, and sporadic communities of lesser seen races that made up the alliance.

~The Sword & Sheathe Taphouse~

Butted up against the north walls next to the AshenGate of Neverine City, The Sword & Sheathe Taphouse is the choice place for food and drink of any person in the Hammer Ward or beyond. Pens for your horse, stalls for fresh produce, and an outdoor eating area for those dry starry nights!

Subject: Known history of the world

Central Pantheon

  • Dugmaren Brightmantle, "The Errant Explorer" (Chaotic Good, Solidarity & Knowledge Domains): Known as the Errant Explorer, he was the dwarven deity of scholarship, discovery and invention. Dugmaren Brightmantle signified the exploratory striving to blaze the trails of creativity by using accumulated knowledge to create that which was new and good. Brightmantle represented the progressive elements of a naturally conservative race that nonetheless prided itself on its infrequent innovations.

  • Brandobaris, "The Irresponsible Scamp" (Neutral, Trickery & Unity Domains): He was the misapprehensions of halflings held by most races in divine form. He was constantly scheming and meddling, as he was curious and with a short attention span. Where the tall races would put more interest in one's purse than his character, Brandobaris cared for character more.

  • Erevan Ilesere, "The Trickster" (Chaotic Neutral, Trickery & Twilight Domains): The elven god of mischief and rogues, his titles included the Trickster and the Chameleon. The Erevanian clerics dressed in black leather armor with leather caps, and never worshiped him in the same place twice.

  • Gond, "Wonderbringer" (Neutral, Forge & Knowledge Domains): A god of craft and smithwork, the church of Gond was prevelant across all of Rayeskell and members were found from the inner territories and the outer realms. The vast majority of his worshippers hail from the human clans of the Ebon-Shroud Vale.

  • Shaundakul, "The Helping Hand" (Neutral Good, Nature & Protection Domains): The deity of traveling and travelers, exploration, caravans, the wind as well as mining and miners. His common symbol is a bearded man who wears a traveler's cape and is armed with a greatsword called the Sword of Shadows.

  • Finder Wyvernspur, "The Nameless Bard" (Chaotic Good, Arcana & Life Domains): The oldest known reference to Finder was from 104 years ago, the same year the 'Heavens Blaze' calamity happened. Bright white streaks lit up the night's sky and my morning, all arcane magics were lost. It's been 27 years since divine magics were disconnected so to the inner realms, all was lost. Finder's name appearing in newly discovered scriptures and artifact sites remained the only hopeful sign of divine help.

The Outer Divines

  • Vhaeraun, "The Masked Lord" (Chaotic Evil, Trickery & War Domains): He is the drow god of, thievery, territory, shadow magic, spellfilchers, and evil activities on the surface aimed to further drow goals, interests and power there. Vhaeraun is an arrogant (at times vain) god and shared the vindictive trait of all drow deities. His arrogance made him believe the drow to be above other races. He also urged every single drow to believe she or he was above other drow. His followers derived the idea of gender equality from this belief of his. He believed that all other races should be subjugated by the drow. While he was willing to use underhandedness to reach his goals, he didn't tolerate the same being used against him or his people.

  • Maglubiyet, "The High Chieftan" (Lawful Evil, War & Order Domains): He is the chief deity of goblins, bug bears, and Dekanter goblins. He was a god of war and leadership who did rule over all goblinoids in Rayeskell, but lost his following of many of the hob goblin tribes in a civil war when Maglubiyet destroyed the connection between them and their god. Maglubiyet revels in conflict and destruction and constantly pushes his followers to wage war, particularly against dwarves and gnomes. He encourages goblins to increase their numbers in order to overrun their enemies. As a paranoid god he is prone to destroy lesser goblin deities when he suspects treachery or he thinks they are becoming too powerful.

  • Gargauth, "The Hidden Lord" (Lawful Evil, Trickery & Law Domains): He is the lawful evil god of betrayal, cruelty, political corruption and powerbrokers. He embodied the inevitable decay and corruption that accompanied all self-serving, greedy, and power-hungry leaders and groups. Gargauth held to the letter of any agreement, not the spirit, and relished betraying anyone with whom he forged a pact by twisting the contract to serve his own ends.

  • Talona, "Lady of Poison" (Chaotic Evil, Nature & Death Domains): She is the goddess of poison and disease. Talona was depicted as an old crone who brought misfortune and death, or also as a beautiful and innocent woman. Talona's followers scarred or tattooed themselves in horrible ways, and they wore ragged gray-green robes and were expected to go about quietly and seek out new diseases. Her priests carried daggers dipped in poison, and used poisons in many ways.

  • Mask, "Lord of Shadows" (Chaotic Neutral, Twilight & Trickery Domains): He is the god of shadows and thieves, and was a loner god most often associated with theft or those of otherwise ill-repute. Mask's symbol was a black velvet mask tinged with red and was known for his constant scheming, cool head, and oft-reserved biting comment. Out of all the gods in either pantheon he is the one worshipped most on both fronts.

  • Nomog-Geaya, "The General" (Lawful Evil, War Domains): He was the patron deity of hob goblins, but his divine connection to Rayeskell was cut by Maglubiyet and subsequently removed from the realms. No one is really sure whether the tribal wars of hob goblins and the other goblinoids sparked the gods war, or vice versa.

Hello again everyone! I decided it'd be a great time to start a game and flesh out much of my homebrew world, with this story I have tossing around my mind I'd really love to play something out with 3 players who are willing to play by discord, forum posts, and Roll20. I'm trying to hash out a good way to incorporate all of these tools, and would kindly ask whoever does join, please have patience as I try to figure out things. But regardless, I would really love something to play!  I'd also love to ask if you do want to join, to know that I'm looking for a bit more frequent game than usual. I'm willing to update multiple times a day if my party is also, but bare minimum once or twice a week would be ideal. Roleplay and gameplay that happens via live chats like Discord or Roll20 can of course expediate much game play, and I'm also 100% happy to have live sessions, with forum post summaries typed up afterwards for story fluidity and people who may lurk. Also incase anyone is worried, don't worry if you're not a flowery word-smith or can't type up pages of pages of amazing post RP. A couple succinct paragraphs summarizing the major important details of your actions and what they are is more than enough! You'll see the same come from me time to time, sometimes there's just only so much you can type   So now that part is established, like I said I'm looking for 3 players! I want to keep it small, which I'm hoping keeps things streamlined and efficient with the game progressing. I would absolutley hate for this to fizzle. If you need to take a hiatus at all I do not mind having your PC take a back seat but I also will be looking for replacements, and welcome back anyone if the party size allows and your schedule frees up.

It's okay to cry and it's okay lounge around all day and do nothing, if that's what you need. I've done the same and the people in my life who have depression too do the same (Just don't make a habit of it!). The whole boot-straps mentality isn't great, no one can tackle such a beastly thing as your own self-depreciation alone. You need your family and friends and they can pick you up when you need it, no one can pick themselves up by their own straps! I'm happy you're seeking treatment, baby steps at a time lead to greater strides later in life. The hardest part will be follow through as something new you hope will help may not kick in right away or be the correct dosage. My only advice is to keep at it and keep the thought that something will help, you just may not have found the right thing yet.

Your website has been an on and off again source of entertainment for me for 17 years now,  from 12 to 29. That's such a cool thought to me, thank you for that! Just know on the days you're down that people online and offline both are rooitng for you, and you've done more for many many people than you'll ever realize!!
