Subject: Wyatt

Wyatt wants to give her very little time to set anything further up. Maybe even arrive before she expects it, but your logic makes sense and she's already likely set up. So maybe caution is better and sending a wave to Lullaby isn't a bad idea.

Subject: Eftari!!!

The search was yielding nothing, but Char wasn't deterred. The hunt was a game of patience and steadfastness. It was a match of cunning versus instinct, and of knowing the terrain, or at least knowing what the terrain could bring. Char had seen the building from the outside and he could imagine the rooms that filled the interior, painting a picture of it in his head as he crept the halls. When they came upon the area they had dispatched the spiders within, Char held the rest of the party back while he quickly checked the ground for any sign of how they were removed (OOC: Tracking check please).

Moving on Char made his way to the back of the party allowing Maximus to take the lead while he continued to look for any sign or markings of potential threat from anything that would have passed on before. When they arrived at the first southern corridor, he took up watch at the corner while Maximus proceeded on, putting his swords away and notching an arrow and watching the length of both halls with an eagle eye.

When the door opened and Eftari emerged casting Char a single sideways glance before exiting sight, the ranger couldn't contain his surprise. His heart skipped a beat and his stomach clenched all at once. Looking to the others he could see that they too were surprised, and yet how could they know who Eftari was, and why would it surprise them instead of setting them in pursuit. Clearly though, they were as surprised as he.

“Jal?…JAL!” Maximus called first in disbelief and then in surety. The gladiator began to go forward, but Char dropped his bow across his chest and shook his head, for it wasn't Jal that the woodsman had seen and at that point he knew there was foul magic afoot.

"It appears something in this area has the ability to read our minds or at least peer into our memories. I know the man I saw to be dead, barring some unholy and extremely potent magical abilities. But yet he was one of the few Imperials I wholly and fully trusted. This appears to be a trap, or a bait of some kind. We should exercise extreme caution." Adrian declared.

Char looked towards him and gave a nod. "Aye. I' wa' da same fer me. Some-tin wan' us t' go dat way fer sure."

"So if we were to go through with this bird plan, of what type of bird would I be assuming the shape? I admit I don't know much about spiders and their predators. It's best to get this decided upon now in case our puppetmaster is drawing us to another confrontation." Adrain's question was something Char expected from a city-dweller.

"Small bir's eat spi'ers. Large bir's eat mea'," he replied. "Sparrow, robin, er da like."

Replacing the arrow in his quiver, Char slung his bow and drew his swords again. "We canna le' de invi' go. We shou' knock."

Drifting in the Black, Day Eight 2:45 pm Ship Time

Always a proponent of privacy, especially in Willow's case, Wyatt was inclined to leave her to her wave, but he also wanted to discuss with Sam the route they were to take. So when the doctor sat and accessed her message with the two of them right there, and he caught a glimpse of the chalkboard in the background, the captain was determined to stay. He had some of his own business to attend to with that woman.

"Well, Miss Willow," that woman appeared on the screen. "I have to say that you completely fooled me. I thought you were just the decoration but you have messed up my plans real good. Oh hello Captain Wyatt! I take it Wolf found my little present for you? Hope you aren't too sore. I did give you plenty of chances to find it - never meant any real harm. Okay Willow - you have the key, I found the door - what do you want to do about it?"

Wyatt was about to predict Bridgette's future when Willow held up a forestalling hand and murmured to the pixellated face before her, "One minute, please, Miss Brigitte?" She paused the wave.

"Captain, Sam, I don't often hold to my mother's beliefs, but as she would tell you, sometimes you just have to restore karmic balance. We've been played enough by this little so and so, and I'm of a mind to give karma a bit of a push. Trust me?"

Wyatt gave her a brief nod, though his brow was furrowed and his lips were a thin line. Stepping away from the monitor he made his way to the front of the cockpit where he stood with his arms folded across his chest as he stared out into the Black.

"Now, now, Miss Brigitte, don't be ruining my play with the Captain here and I won't be telling JW about any extracurricular activities, hmm? Your big problem here was sending a boy to do a woman's job. What on earth possessed you to send Jimmy? He was babbling all he knew after a single kiss...not that he knew much. So...I have what you want, and you have what we both want. How about we team up? I'll need to know where to direct the Captain, though...best we not let him near you any time soon. That scrapper's gel was defective, and ate through Wolf's protective gear while he was removing your present. He'll have the use of his hand again, eventually, but the Captain takes attacks on his people seriously. So Brigitte, tell me where to send this crew, and we can both be rich!"

A moment passes and a brief flicker of annoyance passes over Brigitte's face. She knows that Willow isn't telling the truth but she wouldn't tell the truth either given the roles reversed. "Well give Wolfie my sympathies then darling but he must have done something stupid to release the gel. I wrapped that myself." She brushes her hair back, to give herself time to think, "Well once you get yourselves moving again, you and the men can meet me at the mines here on Frisco. Guess where I found the Lucius Newberry? But we need the key to opened the doorway and we need the code. I assume you got both from Benny?"

(Insert Willow's answer here.)

"Well don't bother with the Ice. I wasn't gonna pay for it and if you got the key and code, then there is no need for the blockade anymore. Just get back as soon as you can."

(Insert Willow's answer here.)

"And Willow dear? If what I hear was on the LN is half of the truth, it will be more than enough to share so let's not be greedy about this. I don't mind sharing as I am sure Sam will tell you. See you soon Sugar."

"Willow," Wyatt stated without turning around or changing stance. "If I conjure correct, The Lucius Newberry was a ship that Kora got mixed up with, an' now Miss Bridgette speaks of it. What more do we need to know abou' this situation, and what's the plan yer cookin' up in that pretty little brainpan o' yers?"

(Insert Willow's answer, and any commentary by Sam.)

Drifting in the Black, Day Eight 2:45 - Day Nine 2:00 am Ship Time

Steering restored, Wyatt entered the bridge and dropped into the copilot's seat. He didn't say much of anything other than a simple greeting to Sam as the man began plotting their return course to Regina, nor did he look over his shoulder. When Sam finally declared his work, Wyatt stood, gave his friend a pat on the shoulder, and returned to the galley where he began tending the garden bunk. They were on their way back to face Bridgette, and he was very calm...very calm indeed.

I didn't like the systems that were presented so I combined the rules from FUZION with some of them from D20 (3.5 in particular) and came up with something I call FUZIONfantasy. I do, however like the Cortex rules that Roger mentioned.

The situation they were in wasn't a good one no matter how Wyatt cut it. They were likely sabotaged, floating dead in the Black. They had a contract that was growing thin by the hour, and Asher was still on that dirtball, probably in more danger than them and without anyone to watch his back.

Sighing less than audibly, the captain returned to work on the communications system. The work was interrupted by frequent trips to the windows so that Wyatt could scan the Black visually for any sign of an approaching vessel. It was on one such trip when Sam called him back to the console with some urgency in his voice.

Once there Wyatt looked at the record of the sent message and frowned.

"Can you determine what it was that was sent?" he asked, rising up from where he had leaned over the screen to block out the reflection from the overheads.

Moments later an incoming wave flashed before their eyes. To Willow...urgent...Wyatt frowned and glanced at his friend for a moment before stepping towards the com. However before he could call down to Willow, Andrew walked in, and Sung's eyes immediately went to the device that his wife's uncle carried with him.

Bowman placed the device on the console near where Sam and Wyatt stood, then stepped back a bit.

“Here is what we found… nasty device designed to kill us in about 8 days after dustoff” He lifted the scrapper’s gel pack carefully and turned it over showing the lipstick mark, “whomever it was couldn’t resist leaving their calling card.”

Wyatt tilted his head to the right side just a bit as he digested the lipstick mark and the explosive. They lived with danger each and every day...it was their line of work. But having someone try to blow them up, and all evidence pointing to one school teacher on Frisco...that chapped his hide.

Wyatt clicked the internal radio. "Everyone to the bridge. Pronto."

Deactivating the com, Wyatt glanced at Sam. "I don't think we've got pending visitation no more. Seems to me that we was expected to blow, and I'd be willing to bet good credit to gold that the outgoing message we just witnessed was a notification to our saboteur that their little device had been discovered. All the same, keep an eye on the sensors."

Once everyone arrived, Wyatt very carefully revealed the lipstick to the lot of them.

"This is trouble with a capital T," he said, scanning the crew with a level eye. "The evidence points to Bridgette in my mind, and that puts Asher at risk. Sam's still checkin' but I believe that a message was sent out by way of a warnin' lettin' our little school marm know her explosives had been disarmed.

"If my suspicions are correct, then we need to be prepared for more shenanigans comin' from all angles. Everyone goes armed from this point on. Let's get Rocinante on the move again. I don't take kindly to being set to explodin' and want to get back to Frisco as quick as possible so as I can address this situation proper.

"I aim to make trouble now."

Once the others have left again to do their bits to get the ship back in order, Wyatt pulls Willow aside. "You got a wave, Willow. Marked urgent. 'Spect you should likely look to it."

Subject: Char'll move in.

With the instruction from their fearless leader Char immediately takes up his usual position at the front. His Khukri blades at ready, the mountainman approached the door and paused about ten feet off to allow Da'Moon access. When the image of a calm grove that was a location he'd discovered as a child came to mind, Char was taken back years to the day of discovery.

He was barely eight summers, a ragged boy dressed in oversized cast-offs with strips of cloth wrapped about his dirt-covered feet. His hair was long even then and the practice of allowing it to hang into his face was already well established. It was spring, and the camp of Eildirn Forcasl was stirring in preparation for a long march--the mercenaries having been hired to establish a stronger hold along the northern edge of the forest against encroaching hill giants. Everyone was excited, and the young Char was just as infected by the buzz as everyone else.

So caught up was he that he'd stumbled head-long into the grip of Hantel Booras, a man who was more an ogre than any of the beasts Char had heard about. Hantel was the type that gave hired swords a bad name, and Char was among those whose life he liked to make miserable. This time, however, Char accidentally stumbled on a clandestine meeting betwee Hantel and some shady fellows he didn't recognize, and Hantel had sprung after him like a wolf after a lame deer.

The ensuing chase had kept Char ahead of the man by mere paces, and it wasn't until the young boy had slipped beneath a rotting log and fell down a rather steep incline that Hantel had been forced to find another route buying Char some time. The grove had been a place that the future ranger had happened on shortly after by breaking through a thick hedge, and it had proven and ideal place to hide. He'd felt safe there; watched over by unseen beings. He'd slept there and ended up spending a couple of days within the peaceful harmony of the sanctuary the whole while worried about the hateful man discovering him and wringing his neck.

Giving his shaggy mane a slight shake, the ranger was brought back to the present just as Da'Moon swung the door to the chamber open. Slipping past the little rogue, Char darted to the right with his swords ready. His icy eyes took in the pattern of the decoration, the stairwell, and the door quickly (OOC: Whatever passes for a Spot check please). Making certain that they weren't going to be attacked by something the little dragon had missed, Char quickly moved to the foot of the stairs, cautiously moving up them to a point where he could crane his neck and see further up the stairs without putting himself out of sight of his friends. (OOC: Move Silently).

I think that is something that Char would fight for as well, should the discussion come up. He isn't about to leave the unknown at their backs, though he'll ask if there's any magic the wizards have on hand to either guard the entrancemto the tower, or set an alarm of sorts before they attempt it. Either way the swords remain out and at ready until otherwise stated.
