Subject: Visiting Wolf (Kinda left that out of my last post)

Visitation for Federal Criminals is a highly monitored affair that requires the complete removal of all potential weapons, a search so thorough that Wyatt feels he should be bought dinner at the very least, and a very uncomfortable chair placed at an extremely uncomfortable position that requires Sung to sit on the edge in order to rest his elbows on the steel table between him and Wolf. All of the furniture is bolted to the floor, so there's no shifting the chair to get more comfortable, nor is there any chance for someone a little less calm than Wyatt to use anything in the room as a weapon. Besides, the Feds standing in the four corners with semi-automatic weapon and stun guns are deterrents enough.

"There's gonna be a trial Wolf," Wyatt met his mechanic's gaze flatly. "Ain't nothing can be done about that. But we got you counsel, and that ain't fer nothin' neither. So, sit tight an' we'll see you back on Roc before too long. I'm confident o' that. Ain't no way anyone could see otherwise once all facts are presented."

Sung shifts and slides awkwardly back in his chair so that the rigid back is digging in just underneath his shoulderblades. "Meanwhile, you got anything you want me t' pass on t' the crew?"

Subject: Wyatt's an honorable fella...

Wyatt would put it up to the crew as each and every one of them have a say in the reward split, but he'd definitely put it out there that the honorable thing to do would be to give John's sister his share.

Question: Are Havelock's family being contacted by the Feds/Military, or are they expecting us to do so, and either way, are the family wanting to be there for the burial... and will they be passengers on Roc? Paying passengers? We do have to make a living.

Subject: Wrapping up the wrapper...

"Yes, Callahan told me about that. Considering the man's service record and his sacrifice, I can't see this being a problem. Once we contact his next of kin, arrangements can be made - least we can do really." Sanders replied. "what about your man John Ryan? Did you have any thoughts or wishes for him?"

Did John have family? Where was he from again? Wyatt couldn't remember ever having a personal talk with the man. Still, he had given up his life to save theirs and that meant a whole lot to the captain. "We'll do some lookin', 'less you have the information on hand. I don't know of any family to return him to, and seein' how he gave his life in a heroic fashion we'll be happy t' see that he has a proper burial in a right pretty spot."

----------------------

Wyatt Sung wasn't much of a socialite--never had been. Over the course of the next few days he did his best to stay to himself. He was still mulling over the losses these past months had brought him and it took all he could muster to steer clear of the alcohol that was running free and being offered up easily. He politely attended what he needed to attend in order to avoid any possible affronts made to potential clients, and he made certain to keep in regular contact with his crew finding frequent company with Ma as she wasn't prone to engage in socializing either. Sung spent a lot of time on the Cortex looking for future jobs while maintaining the necessary contact with past acquaintances through waves sent and received. When he wasn't playing cards with Ma, talking business with Willow, or perusing the Cortex and sending waves, he was reading, sleeping, and eating. Mostly, he was waiting. Waiting for Rocinante to be flight-worthy once more. He had an awful itch to set bootheel to gangplank again and to watch the atmosphere flame away revealing the solace of the Black. He wasn't particularly keen to return to Serenity Valley, but the sooner he figured out where to bury John and completed the task of burying Havelock, the sooner he could get back to doing what he did best... raising hell and earning an occasional credit.

"Colonel," Sung runs a hand through his hair resigned to the necessity of what he's about to say. He knows the rest of his crew understands. "Take the reward money from the violin an' find Wolf the best advocate you can. I'll be mighty obliged t' have my mechanic back on board Roc when she's ready t' fly once more, an' none of this kindness was expected anyway."

"Yeah, I figured as much. You are in luck because one of the ladies you rescued is one of the best defence advocates in the verse - Sandra Wong. I will get word to her that you are in need and I am sure she'll be here for you soon."

Wyatt gave the man a nod of appreciation. It wasn't often that Sung found himself at all accepting of Fed actions, but in this case, it was the best results he could imagine all things said and done.

"Are we...free to go?" Willow asked," Not that I know where we will go...but are you satisfied with your inquiry, Colonel? We have matters to deal with, and it's been a very, very long number of days since any of us have slept."

"We will be docking in a couple of hours in Lu'Weng (capital city of Sihnon) where you will be shuttled to the Wu-Hyatt Resort. Your rooms have been arranged and you may order anything you need, clothing, food whatever. You may communicate with whomever you need to at that point. We have taken the liberty of contacting the next of kin for John Ryan and Captain Winston Havelock. Your ship needs extensive repairs and the estimate I heard was a week to ten days to get it flight worthy. I will arrange for Mr. Apollo to be kept on Intrepid and not transferred to prison holding until your advocate can speak to him."

"Colonel," Shifting his weight to his left foot, Wyatt momentarily clenched his jaw to ward off the pain he felt rushing through him. "I'd like t' let Fenris know he ain't being left t' rot. Can we see him?"

"Until he gets an Advocate, I don't recommend it but we could arrange one of you to see him. I will warn you though you will be under surveillance."

"It's much appreciated. What about our personal effects on Rocinante?"

"Yes, Of course. Your ship will be brought to Sihnon before the morning. Once you have some rest, then you will be allowed to go to the ship and I am sure the Baron will want to thank you personally."

"And--not to push the limits on yer hospitality--but we had ourselves a little contract and some cargo. The monk... he was overseeing the whole job."

"Yes, the monk. Sifu? His cargo will be transferred to another ship and both will be taken to their destination."

"Shiny." Sung chewed the inside of his lip for just a moment before speaking up once more. "Colonel, 'fore Havelock died he asked t' be buried with his men in Serenity Valley. I promised him I'd see t' that an' I'm a man o' my word. What papers do I need t' sign, or waves do I need t' send, t' make sure that his dyin' wish is made t' be reality?"

The ship docks at Lu'Weng and you are taken to your rooms at the Wu-Hyatt. Suites would be closer to what you get, with a huge bed, clean sheets, hot water, Jacuzzi tubs and access to several high class five star restaurants. The passes you are given give you full run of the hotel, everything being covered by the Star Cruise Liner corporation and their insurance company.

Seeing a bed makes Wyatt realize that he has been up for over 36 hours and in a battle as well. But there's a siren's call that battles with him something heavy when he sees the minibar. Sam left, Roc's been heavily damaged, his crew been shot at and killed, good people dead for a gorram violin from Earth that Was. Anger swept him up and small bottles of liquor flew across the room to crash against the wall bleeding their contents to the carpet below. Alone... Captain Wyatt Sung takes out his anger and all of the pent up feelings of loss and hurt on what's not nailed down until he finally collapses on the bed fully dressed and worn so thin transparent doesn't even begin to describe him. Sleep comes easily but not without some bad dreams and emotions held at bay until now.

Infirmary

Havelock’s eyes opened suddenly and looked not at Wyatt but over hid shoulder, “No! We had a deal!” He shouted and then coughed up blood.

"What deal Puhn Yo?" Steel blue eyes sought out some sign of lucidity in the gentleman warrior's panicked gaze.

Havelock turned his stare to Wyatt and focused on the Captain. “Her. I made a deal with her back in Serenity Valley.”

Havelock's hallucinatin', Sung heard Eden's voice whisper softly in his ear. An' I'm not? he answered the disembodied informant. "Who's this girl yer speakin' on, Havelock? What deal are you meanin'?"

“Death. I was wounded badly and lying in the mud when she came for me. She reached out but I asked her... I said please. Don’t take me. Don’t take me until I can get them all home safe.“

He's Wu Toh Wu Now. Won't be long now, husband, Summer was right more often than not. Blood seeped through Havelock's clothing in multiple locations. The spirit wasn't likely to hang on much longer. "It ain't over yet, Lóng tóu lao dà. You'll make good on that promise t' yer men still."

“She said that she would leave me there. She said she would only come when I had saved them all. But I couldn’t save them all. I just couldn’t.”

"They're all saved," Wyatt gave Havelock's shoulder a little squeeze. "You done good General. The passengers're all safe now."

“What? Everyone is safe?”

"Yessir," Sung shifted his weight forward a bit so it was easier to meet the dying man's eyes. "You made good."

Havelock coughs more blood and starts to slump more, Wyatt can feel the energy leaving the soldier’s body. He stops coughing and says, “Don’t let them make a monument of me. Promise me you’ll take me back to the valley. Bury me with my men?”

"You've my word on it."

Havelock's eyes lose their focus and he draws a last breathe. As he start to close his eyes, he says, “Ah, yes my dear, I did promise you a dance.” With those final words, his life ends.

The room becomes very silent to Wyatt, like within a pressure suit and looking off into the Black. There is sound about him but he doesn’t hear it. He looks up from the body of the warrior and his eyes fall upon something he never expected. A young lady, dressed in black jeans and halter top, standing in the corridor by the infirmary. Her skin is very pale, a formal top hat on her head and a smile that suggests mischief. She raises her hands to the ceiling and white light leaves both of them. All Wyatt can hear is the sound of wings flapping, like birds taking flight.

Then the butt of a rifle smashes into the back of Wyatt’s head.

“DOWN! EVERYONE DOWN! YOU ARE ALL BOUND BY LAW!” a number of alliance soldiers shout. Wyatt is covered by soldiers with assault rifles as he is stripped of weapons and forced to the ground. Tess and Nancy are also being treated roughly and stripped of their weapons. Nancy is screaming that she is a federal Marshall but the soldiers don’t seem to care. Arrest everyone and let Buddha sort them out – standard alliance mode of operation.

As Wyatt clung to consciousness, he did not see any lady in black anymore. He also did not see Wolf who was here before... everything went belly up.

"Where's Wolf?” he groggily struggled to force the words out. He had to keep them alive. He had to keep fighting. Like Havelock, he had made promises.

Abroad the Intrepid, Tohoku-class, Evening, time unknown

The forced trip with the soldiers was difficult for Wyatt to keep track of at first. The blow to the head had capitalized on the feelings of loss for John, the unknown whereabouts of Wolf, the condition of Tess, Ma, Willow... Havelock's death and the strange hallucination Wyatt had witnessed. You're overstressed zhàngfu. Just breathe. Eden's voice was somewhat comforting and he eventually gave into her conclusion. It didn't really occur to him that he might as well have been losing it altogether by hearing her voice at all.

Full consciousness returned shortly after Wyatt had been deposited rather unceremoniously in a cell. A shallow, vertical grave if ever there was one, and a sobering predicament to find oneself in. Sung woke completely from his deluge of Weird and began to put thought to the situation. It made him angry, and when Wyatt Sung got angry he grew colder--harder. When they came for him and walked an upright, fully coherent Independent to the interrogation, Captain Sung was determined to play it shiny. After all, they had nothing to hide. They'd risked their necks to do what was right and good. They were the ones--the crew of Roc... his family--that was being mistreated. So, instead of reciting name, rank, and serial number, Sung looked the interrogator straight in the eye and responded to every question flat, cold, and matter-of-factly. Over and over again.

After a while passes, a man comes in and dismisses the interviewer. He is a federal marshal, with the insignia of the Colonel rank and he is one strange looking guy. He had shockingly white hair with similar coloring for his moustache and the short beard that he sported, but his eyes were what draws your attention--bright blue, almost incandescent. He wears a black flight suit with a long black duster and black boots that looked a few years old. He carried a sidearm that was bigger than most, but carried no other weapons.

"I am Colonel Harland Sanders of the Federal Marshalls. Please come with me? Do you need medical attention? I am now in charge of the mess that was created here. Ms. Callahan has filled me in on your role. I am sorry for how you have been treated, unfortunately, it took me awhile to get through to high command that I was first on the scene."

Wyatt doesn't respond. He just stands and follows the man. Colonel Sanders takes him to the med bay to tend his wounds (including the huge bump and gash caused by the Federal rifle butt that had been driven into the back of his skull) and then brings Sung to a lounge area. There Wyatt is relieved to be reunited with Asher, Tess, and Ma, and then Willow is escorted to the room shortly thereafter.

"Y'all're a sight fer sore eyes," Sung says with steel in his voice but genuine feeling in his eyes. "Any sign of Wolf? No? Well, let's hope he figured some way t' hide from this fangzong fengkuang de jie an' he's concocting some way t' get Roc flyin' again."

The pregnant pause that follows allows him time to gather his thoughts on how he's approaching the next bit of news.

"John didn't make it," he doesn't drop his gaze, but meets each of their gazes with a steady one of his own. "He sacrificed himself t' make sure the plan was done." Let that sink in for a minute, Love, Eden advises, and Wyatt obliges her before continuing. "Havelock was killed too. The old tank done fought right b'sides me 'til the end. Saved my life I'd wager."

There isn't more to say. There's nothing to do but wait to see what Fate dealt. Wyatt has lost track of whether this is number two, or number three on the things that go bad in a row. But he wasn't wagering in their favor. Better to be prepared for the worse than caught with his pants down 'round his boots.

After some time, Sanders returns with Commander Vonage in tow, and he does not look happy. The colonel gestures to the commander and then to Captain Wyatt.

“Mr. Sung.” Vonage begins.

“Captain.” Wyatt corrects him coldly.

“Of course. Captain Sung. Allow me to apologize for the delay in you and your crew’s release. You understand that we had to be very cautious in the situation as it presented itself. As a man from the war, I am sure you fully understand."

"I understand plenty."

“Umm. Yes. Well. I am here to let you know that we are indeed sorry that it happened and to let you know that the passengers, the cruise liner and the owner of the Stradivarius are very thankful for your bravery and personal sacrifice. Baron Winters, the owner of the violin would like to pay to have your ship brought to his ship yards and completely repaired if you so desire, including two new shuttle crafts. The cruise liner would like to offer you a reward of 10,000 credits as well, so you could get yourself a brand new ship as well. A number of the passengers want to have you stay at an all-inclusive resort nearby for the time it takes to repair your ship as a way to say thank you.”

"Is that so," Sung raises one eyebrow--the only signifier that he's surprised by their turn of luck.

“Gosh, that’s great!" Ash exclaims. "We’ll be back in the Black as soon Wolf can join us. Colonel, where is Wolf and when will he join us?”

Sanders cleared his throat and motioned for the Commander to move back. He then turned to the crew but mostly focused on Captain Wyatt. “Unfortunately, we have a problem with one of your crew members, Fenris Apollo. Yes, when he was arrested, we found upon his person, two Gauss type weapons. Now as you may or may not know, Gauss weaponry is highly restricted and requires a special permit to carry which he does not have. Furthermore, we found two deceased gentlemen--Harold and Stanley Borgia-Chan who did have such permits. Evidence suggests that your crewman murdered both of them to steal their weapons.”

The kid jumped up, “Gorram, Captain, Wolf never killed them two…hell he was about the only one that seemed to like them. They was the man in white’s muscle but they want to help us, Wolf took them with him to protect the Roc. Wolf would have picked up them weapons up to keep the Merc’s from using them.”

Sung throws Asher a look that says he knows, but to cool it lest they lose their edge.

"There's a likelihood tha' Wolf picked them weapons up," Wyatt acknowledges as he turns his narrowed eyes back on the commander. "But it weren't t' steal 'em, an' I know the man. He wouldn't have kilt them folk fer them sidearms. Specially as they was helpin' defend the passengers 'ginst the mercs."

“The guns were found on Mr. Fenris’ person and he had in his possession an assault weapon with a shotgun attachment. The fatal wounds that the men received matches said weapon. I am afraid that he has been charged with two counts of murder, possession of illegal weapons and two counts of theft of restricted weapons. He will be appoint a lawyer to defend him or if you wish to use the reward money to hire him an advocate, that is your choice." Sanders grimaced sadly, "Now I know this is complete Go Sa but the Borgia-Chans are a very powerful and influential family and there is no way that I can make this go away without a formal inquiry." he looked over at Vonage, "Especially since all the charges have already been filed." the Colonel rolled his eyes, "One of my men saw a Mercenary with what was probably the murder weapon but for some reason, it has not been recovered. I have two of my own people looking into that and investigating."

“Captain! You gotta let their family know that Wolf was not their killer, he wanted to be like them… I’ll give my share of the reward to get him a good lawyer… hell their family should go after them Merc’s.” The kid stood there with a pleading look on his face.

"Well, I don't know the Borgia-Chans none, but," Sung looks to Willow. "But I'm guessin' that the wave's already been sent concernin' the deaths o' their boys an' my experience with situations like tha' is it makes people mighty sore.

I hadn't even thought of that Ody. That might actually work to our advantage.

Ok, so, Wyatt would take special issue with anything illegal coming on board Roc that he didn't first approve. Can't prepare a defense for something he's not aware of. I'm pretty sure all of the crew would know this.

This will definitely be interesting no matter how you look at it. This is fun! Thanks Roger! Thank you my crew and fellow players. I'm enjoying this.

“Ma is safe, I’m leaving her here near the shuttle……….I need to get to the caves.”

Wyatt felt a momentary surge of relief wash over him as the radio crackled the news. They were all right, and that meant the world to the captain. That Asher was capable of heading to the caves helped settle Sung’s concern over those he’d sent there. It was time to end this.

"John's in the infirmary. You wanna stop these bastards, that's the best way for it." Wyatt stepped back from the mule to allow Havelock room to disembark. "Besides, this gentleman warrior could use some patchin' up. C'mon Havelock. Let's see about some bandages."

"Pish Posh!" Havelock said pushing himself upright and away from the Captain. "I am fine. Well I remember ..."

Suddenly the sound of gunfire erupted from above. Steady, non-stop rounds from the auto cannon of the ASREV mixed in with the ricochet of some rounds of the hull of the ship. Good thing that they captain had pulled inside when he did but there was nothing to do but duck down and wait for the cascade of bullets to end. There was a terrible whirring noise and then the sound of metal ripping apart.

Then there was an awful crash. Louder than the gunfire and the force of the impact caused the ship to jump and shift, knocking everyone to their feet. Despite the damage and beating that Rocinante had taken, it stayed upright and the landing gear held against the shock.

Once the ground stopped moving, Every stood up except Havelock who was no bleeding badly again. Nancy grabbed one arm of old soldier while Tess took the other. Wyatt looked at Wolf with a expression that spoke volume. The mechanic put his hand on his weapon and nodded to show the Captain he understood the sentiment - Trust no one.

As they turned around the corner, the smell of burnt equipment filled their noses and then as they approached the infirmary - they saw the quarantine doors were sealed. Nancy ran to the doors, leaving Tess with Havelock and looked inside but what she saw made her shake her head. "Captain? I think this was one of yours." she said is a quiet voice.

Wyatt ran to the doorway of the infirmary and looked in. There had been a fire within, the walls and table were scorched and blackened. On the floor was John, not moving. He had fallen on top of a cable running between the wall and the receiver that John had set up. In a glance, Wyatt knew what had happened. The cables had caught fire, the fire repression system had activated in the infirmary and started pumping out the air. John, know that the cables would not hold, fell on them so the circuit wasn't lost. John gave his life to keep the mercenaries down.

John had been a bit too haughty for Wyatt’s personal taste, but he had been good at his job and the captain even though Captain Sung didn’t personally like John, he had been part of his crew. That meant that John had been family, and he’d been brave and selfless. Wyatt stared at the body of his fallen man and offered up a prayer to Buddha for his soul. He’d turned out to be a hero, and that’s how Sung would remember him.

"We are The Federal Marshalls of the Alliance. Drop all weapons and surrender. You are bound by law. We have assumed control. We have assumed control."
The words came over the high-jacked loudspeakers. Wyatt allowed his shoulders to relax. He wasn’t normally happy to have the Law bearing down on them, but in this case he was thrilled. Placing a hand flat against the glass, Wyatt silently said his good-byes before turning to meet Nancy’s sympathy-filled gaze. He gave her a nod of thanks and then looked to Havelock.

During the war, Wyatt had seen many a man wounded. A dying man had something about him, something that Wyatt had once heard a monk explain as an aura where the spirit of the man was preparing to leave the body. Even though moments before Wyatt had been unsure of who to trust, Havelock had fought like a lion, and seeing that aura about the gentleman warrior added to the heavy heart that the captain was being forced to entertain. Havelock was dying. The man who had taken so many wounds and lived to literally tell the tale over and over again had finally lost his race against Death.

Taking the couple of steps to Havelock’s side, Wyatt motioned to those who carried him that they needed to lay the gentleman on the steel, grated flooring. Once they did, Sung placed a hand on Havelock’s shoulder so that the older man would know he wasn’t alone as he passed.

"Name is Callahan, Nancy Callahan Federal Marshall. I was deep uncover with these guys, but decided blowing cover was more important than a whole lot of people dying." She gave Havelock a shot of something with the spray and looked at his wounds but he brushed her off.

"Doing dandy young lady. I remember once on Hera I took a lot more rounds than this and still made tea for the unit afterward. Steady on."

Wyatt knew he should be more concerned with Havelock's condition. Something in the back of the captain's mind flickered like a near dead light bulb that was akin to a very real concern for the stalwart soldier, but it was deep, deep in the dark due to Wyatt's completely engulfing sense of worry for his crew.

That said, Captain Sung gunned the mule in the direction of the downed shuttle and what he hoped would be two survivors. Nancy shifted positions with Tess and hit the Captain with the spray as well, "This is what Marv there was hyped on so I don't want to give you more than one. " The Captain immediately felt the pain dissipate and alertness return to his mind. "We need to get to that transmitter your fellow John is building. I have the codes to most of these men. We can end this quick."

Again, Sung found himself being forced to go against his immediate urge to seek out and verify the conditions of those he cared about. Eliminate the threat first. Then check for survivors. If I don't kill them that's aimin' t' kill mine then there's not likely t' be any o' mine left.

As Wyatt sped his way to the ship, there were mercs on the ground, crawling and writhing in pain and agony. Whatever John had done, it seemed to be working. Nancy leans over and says quietly, "Listen, I have no idea how this guy is still moving. His vest is destroyed and he is bleeding from multiple wounds."

Wyatt acknowledged her admission with a brief glance, nothing more. He'd known some pretty tough soldiers in the War, but looking back they all ended up dying just as easy as the next browncoat. What was keeping Havelock upright? What was keeping him coming back for more? What was it he'd mumbled just before he had lost consciousness back there? How'd it all tie together? Sung resolved to clear his mind of worry and focus on the here and now. That's how he'd survived the war...that's how he'd survived having his heart ripped out of his chest back when he'd discovered Eden and Summer. Gotta keep them all in my line o' sight, he determined.

A soldier in Federal Marshall marker and battle armour was moving near the front of Rocinante, using a huge gun to mow down the remaining mercenaries. She looked over your way but seemed to sum you up as not a threat. Just as you are pulling up, there is an explosion from Corvette. A smaller vessel disengages from the hull and heads upward as the corvette lists sharply and starts to descend rapidly.

"No! No! He can't gorram escape!" Nancy shouted up at the ship. "Take him out! Take him out now!"

He could empathize. He didn't want a single one of these mercy escaping justice. But at that moment he had no way of stopping an airborne vessel, so Sung pulled the mule right up into the cargo bay, past the gunner sweeping up, and leapt from the seat, immediately working to reload his weapons.

"John's in the infirmary. You wanna stop these bastards, that's the best way for it." Wyatt stepped back from the mule to allow Havelock room to disembark. "Besides, this gentleman warrior could use some patchin' up. C'mon Havelock. Let's see about some bandages."

(OOC: Wyatt's not going to let Havelock or the newcomers at his back, but will direct them ahead of him to the infirmary. Once there he'll work to always keep them in his line of sight with the loaded shotgun in hand and his reloaded Colt ready on his hip.)

The Battle, Wyatt and Havelock in Shuttle 2 LV-426, 1:05 pm PT

There was a part of him that sung the song of a hero about to be laid to rest. It was a joyful, and yet sorrowful, melody that played a long, slow hum in the back of his consciousness as he walked purposefully towards the undying mercenary unloading two more shells from the chamber of his shotgun. Not only did Sung realize that he wouldn’t be able to beat this behemoth in a hand-to-hand melee, but he was positive he was about to die trying to bring the man down. He didn’t fear death. Not like some. Ever since the loss of his wife and daughter, Wyatt Sung had been trying to meet Death in one form or another headlong with a set jaw and a determined, narrow-eyed stare. It would end the hollowness that ate him up at night--the emptiness that had driven him to drink before there was those that brung him back to life each morning. Before Ma had become part of his crew. Before Willow had shown him that love could be something other than what he’d shared with Summer. Before Sam had shown him that there was others that were family.

Now Sam was lost to the Black. Ma and Asher was likely dead in that shuttle that’d gone down. Wolf was just as likely bleeding out in the cargo bay of the disabled ship. Willow, John, Tess… they were likely all dead or dying and it was this mountain’s doing--at least he was a part of it. And it frustrated the hell out of Wyatt that the merc just wouldn’t lie down and die!

Wyatt pulled up on the shotgun and reached for his pocket to thumb another couple of shells back into the shotgun just as the monstrosity in a trenchcoat sprung forward like a jackrabbit and ferociously charged at Captain Sung, apparently done with the casual pace they were setting on killing each other. Instinct took control and the Independent spun to the right, rolling to his right knee and back up again; spinning away from the rapid fire barrage the mercenary was laying down. The move ended with Sung gliding to his booted feet once more, his browncoat wrapping about his legs from the momentum, but it had cost Wyatt the opportunity to reload, and the black-garbed enemy wasn’t letting up.

Suddenly, gunfire erupted from behind the Captain and the giant man staggered back under a hail of bullets. Wyatt turned his head to see Tess was there with an assault rifle, alongside her was another woman he had never seen before, also opening up on the merc. And the huge man finally fell to the ground.

Wyatt drew in a slow breath and raised his left eyebrow at Tess’ timely arrival before he walked over to the fallen man.

“Is that all you got?” the mercenary coughed through bloody spittle.

Wyatt looked him in the eye and leveled his newly reloaded shotgun at the man’s forehead. “It’s enough,” he answered before pulling the trigger and ending the reign of terror.

Just then, the comm activated and John’s voice called out, “The mercenaries should have a very bad headache right now. Hopefully debilitating. Best I can do, make use of it. *sputter* *sputter* *Fhooosh* “Ummm ... Not sure how long it will last so you may wish to act in haste!!”

Nancy called out, “Look who is here. Late as always.”

Wyatt heard the protest of engines as an ASREV plunged downwards out of the sky. It was falling fast, real fast, maybe too fast; but it managed to right itself and then the auto-cannon opened up on the Corvette with tight precise bursts. From the belly of the Fed ship, two figures jumped to the ground in full battle armour but were lost to the view behind Rocinante.

Tess ran to check on Havelock but he was coming around as she did. As Wyatt looked on he heard something on his comm, “...---...---...“

“Ma,” he breathed with a sense of relief and the strange sensation of hope creeping through his battered chest. Wincing a bit as he turned from the gruesome pile of flesh at his feet, Sung rushed back towards the mule as fast as he could. “Tess we gotta go! Ma and Ash went down in that shuttle, but that’s Ma telling us she’s alive.”

Reaching the mule Captain Sung quickly sized Havelock up. “We’ll get you patched up as soon as we can get back t’ Willow, Puhn yoh. You got my word.” Wyatt began helping Havelock into the back seat, accepting whatever assistance Tess and the newcomer offered.

“That ASREV belongs t’ your people I’m assumin’,” he said through teeth he was gritting against the pain his muscles were complaining of as he helped move the gutsy man from the driver’s seat. Looking up at the new woman he paused for just a moment before taking Havelock’s place behind the controls. “We’re mighty appreciative of the heroics the lot o’ ya are showin’. I trust this is a rescue mission fer the high an’ mighties we got shored up, but yer timing couldn’t have been more spot on.”

That said, Captain Sung gunned the mule in the direction of the downed shuttle and what he hoped would be two survivors.

Almost as a punctuation to the statement, there was an explosion from far behind. Wyatt turned his head to see a fireball dissipating where the shuttle that Ma and Asher were in had landed and his blood froze. Then a second missile hit the same spot again just for good measure. Wyatt grit his teeth and turned back to this one mercenary. He couldn't help them now. He just had to have faith in them. Faith that they could survive this like they had survived so many other things.

Wyatt set his jaw and narrowed his eyes at the target he could focus on. The trenchcoat-wearing monster popped something into his mouth and rolled his shoulders just before he produced twin pistols and opened fire. The rounds were well-placed. Havelock grunted with the impact, but even with lead striking him, the gentleman fought losing consciousness to keep control of the mule so Sung could get his shot.

Wyatt couldn’t spare his companion’s situation any further consideration. He leveled his shotgun at the mercenary and pulled the trigger. He wanted a headshot, but the movement of the mule caused him to clip the man’s right ear and the following shot was into the same mark on the chest that took so much damage before. The man still did not fall!

Then the mule slowed and Havelock used his last moments of consciousness to stop the vehicle so that it didn't flip over, "No." Havelock said to no one in particular, "We had a deal." and then slumped back in the seat.

Wyatt had been in enough gunfights to know that taking his eyes off the enemy could result in immediate and irreversible death. He subconsciously filed the statement away for further review should they both survive, and leveled his shotgun at the mercenary once more. The man had spent his magazines--it was a one advantage Wyatt had sitting in the mule. Unfortunately, Havelock had not been so lucky, but Wyatt still had shells in his shotgun. Captain Sung gingerly stepped from the mule and winced a little as he leveled the shotgun at his enemy’s head.

“Qu ni de,” Wyatt growled and fired two more shells at the mercenary’s head as he walked just as calmly towards him. Somewhere in the back of Wyatt’s mind he knew that he couldn’t take the guy in a hand-to-hand fight, but with his people falling out of the sky and mercenaries swarming over Rocinante, he didn’t care. He was back in the war and the man before him was Alliance. He was the reason Sung’s unit was being diced and sliced. The trenchcoat-wearing, armored soldier was the reason some of these young people wouldn’t be going home again. Wyatt hated him. Wyatt was going to destroy him, or die trying.
