Subject: Continuation...

Wyatt was caught in the hall just outside of the cockpit by Fu Sheng and Willow. The little monk seemed agitated--something that Wyatt was not used to seeing in the short time he'd come to know the man.

Fu Sheng's usual greeting was forestalled by the urgency of his message, though he did not forget to include the niceties of title and respect that he so often showed. Wyatt listened to the message with a look of interested, but beyond that Fu Sheng could have been sharing a recipe for protein paste pasta as far as a casual observer would have been able to tell. Internally, though, the captain was seething. How dare anyone come aboard my ship with anythin' nefarious about them! Other, more profanity-filled thoughts also sped through his brainpan, but he had no time for them.

"You think you can get down among them that are with us and try t' narrow down the selection some?" Wyatt moved past Willow and Fu as he said this. "An' let Ma know what's what. I'll get the others up t' speed as soon as I see 'em. Oh! Tell Tess too. I'll be a gorram monkey if'n I'm gonna let some two-bit thief thinks they can hitch a ride on Roc without there being some pay-back."

Speeding off to the engine room on his way to the cargo bay, Wyatt stepped in the door and said, "Wolf. There's some no-good scoundrel other than us afootin' so stay strapped and keep yer eyes peeled. This fella is party t' the reason the Star ain't afloat no more, an' he's dead bent on gettin' whatever was on that cruiseliner that he missed out on when we showed up. Stay alert, dohn ma."

Moving on quickly, Sung stepped into the cargo bay and specifically affected a brooding, dark look so as to avoid anyone speaking to him that he didn't want to. He didn't stop at the top of the stairs but scanned the hold as he descended, searching for the crew he was supposed to meet up with to perform the parameter check. Finding Ash he swept up near him and drew his Colt to check the play.

"There's big trouble playin' our way, Kid," he muttered just loud enough so that he thought Asher was the only one who could hear. "There's a big-time bad guy in the thick o' that crowd a' least partially responsible fer the blown-up cruiseliner. Fu Sheng picked up on this person, but can't figure out who jus' yet. Simply put: keep twitchy, an' don't trust no one but crew.

"Now, let's go see what lies out there. Shall we?"

That being said, Wyatt takes one more cold look around at the group of people he'd picked up, and then he proceeds to make his parameter check.

Subject: I was hoping to find out what Fu knows before posting, but...

“Cap’n it don’t look good but it’s not as bad as it could be. Thanks to Tess’s landing skill” A nod of Wolf's head to her to acknowledge her skill, “We got lucky to only have the damage we got. Biggest prob though be the port side turbine; it’s toast. We’re gonna need a new one. Only place we got a hope of finding one though, be that Atmos Processor over there. I’d like to take John and Asher, all of us fully armed, over there to find out if there be one we can snag. No point doing all the repairs if there’s no turbine to put in there. With your permission Cap’n?"

Wyatt listened to the with an interests that bordered on obsessiveness. Roc was as much family as any of the crew to him. Well, perhaps a bit less. But anytime she sustained hurt he felt the pain himself. As Fenris went thought the list of necessary repairs he grew a bit more irritable. He wanted to go and snatch up all the turbines, slap them into place, and take to the Black again, but knew the urge to be irrational.

"Wolf," he glanced out the cargo bay door (OOC: I'm assuming this happens after Wyatt and Ash make their patrol about the parameter so Wyatt would be helping to wrangle people and keep them off his cargo.) at the lightening scenery in the direction of the facility the large mechanic had referenced. "Not too keen on splitting my public relations team up, but the need is real pressin'. Take a personal com, an' stay sharp. Make it fast, too, an' keep yer eyes peeled fer security. The three o' ya need t' make it back soon, an' we still don' know what jammed us so watch yerselves, don ma?"

I like the concept of putting the shuttles and mule to work. The shuttles would be a quick way to survey, and would be fast bringing materials taken from the processors back to Roc, so that will be Captain Sung's decision as far as that's concerns. The mule will be a good way to search out the immediate vicinity in more detail, so that will be put to use as well.

So, this is how I'd call it unless there are concerns voiced by the crew that I need to take into consideration:

1. John and Wolf will perform an exterior examination of the ship taking stock of what's needed in an ideal supply situation and what they could get by with to get Roc back in the air.

2. At the same time, Wyatt and Asher will hop in the mule and take a turn about the countryside, maybe a kilometer out and sweeping back in. They'll be armed to the teeth and taking the ship-to-personnel comms with them.

3. Tess should keep trying the scanners, sensors, and other means of searching about electronically. Keep an eye on the sky, as Wyatt is uncomfortably sure there's another player about.

4. Ma should help handle the shifts for people cleaning up and using ship facilities.

5. Willow can help keep the passengers calm and take care of their needs if she feels she can leave Sifu for a bit. If Sifu is back in action he could help in that capacity as well (but being a passenger Wyatt won't give that order).

Can we take it to that point? If we need to go further, let me know. Does anyone have any complaints, concerns? Did I miss anyone?

Needless to say, I'd be all over this like white on rice if it weren't for the fact that just about everything that could be eating up time for me is deciding to do just that. I could go through the list, but I don't want to depress anyone. I appreciate everyone keeping things rolling though, and really hope to be able to get into the swing of things again in the near future. In the meantime, Captain Wyatt will be receiving what posts I can manage.

Subject: Landfall

It had been some time since Wyatt had enjoyed the thought of touching boot to earth. Standing in the cockpit of Rocinante whilst Tess worked a miracle and somehow landed them despite being lame did absolutely nothing to change his opinion on the matter. If anything, he felt an increased sense of longing to be back in his sky again as soon as possible. Touching down in the early hours of the morning on a barely-there terraformed moon with a bay full of all-too-importants and explosives while there was apparently a ghost floatin' about in the Black (or hot on their heels)... well, that just about did his nerves right in. Just about.

"Good landing," Wyatt gave Tess a brief pat on the shoulder. "Almost as good as yer flyin'."

Gathering the crew together wasn't in his best interest. There were too many possibilities roaming about this ship to make him feel comfortable with the idea of leaving them unattended. Of course, a moon like this was a pretty decent hiding place for those less than favorables in the 'Verse to hang their hats, and he did have some liability for the Star's passengers since he'd done the brilliantly kind thing and picked them up. Essentially that meant that he couldn't have them wandering about the moon like a bunch of starry-eyed cows lest they run into some danger. But he'd be damned if he was going to have them hanging out more volatile than the ingredients he'd originally agreed to transport.

"Asher," Wyatt picked up the mic and began dishing orders. "Let the kind people out int' the fresh air please. Kind people, this is Captain Sung. I'd be mighty appreciative if'n you all could stay near the ship while my crew does the best we can t' see to repairs as well as yer needs. Thank you."

Changing to just the Infirmary: "Willow? How's our little monk friend?"

Once he had received his answer and their back n' forth was finished, he switched over to the engine room. "Wolf, we've precious little time for you and John t' get this baby back flyin'. Let me know what you need stat."

Turning to Tess, "Don't let no one who ain't supposed to be here in, an' keep an eye on all things. Yer my ears and eyes Little Lady. Ma'll be her to help. John and Fenris need t' keep focused on repairs. Willow will be about t' help with the passengers and the injured. Asher and I are going to need to do a little recon to see what our assets are. Everything shiny?"

That being said, Wyatt sets about to gather up the Kid and with weapons in hand, see what's what.

Wyatt is an even-keel, the rock aboard Roc, and the leader that doesn’t fail to lead. Even feeling like he is with the chaotic influx of unexpected passengers and the fact that his beloved ship--his home--has taken damage from the exploding liner, Sung can’t fold up and retreat into a bottle. No matter how much he wants to. Instead, he sits in the bridge across from Tess and listens as his crew makes their report, with only Willow missing as she tends to Sifu.

Wolf’s report is daunting, and consists of some serious damage that just keeps on growing. The drive pod on the port side is completely non-responsive...

“Can Tess land with one?” Captain Sung glances towards the pilot but directs the question at Wolf.

Wolf affirms that she can, though it will be less than comfy. He then let’s them all know that he needs to be dirtside to look it over. That, of course, isn’t the end of it. The mechanic informs them that the main reactor for the pulse drive has a micro fracture in the core containment, and that the longer they stay in the air, the bigger the fracture becomes. Again, Fenris explains that they need to be breathin’ oxygen for him to get repairs made as the engine has to be shut off. Then, there’s the primary buffer panel that is also damaged--

“Which does...?” Wyatt frowns as the list of things wrong with Roc grows.

Fenris explains that without it, power is not evenly distributed so it needs to be fixed ASAP. And they need to--

“--Land,” Wyatt takes his hat from his head and runs his left hand through the mess of black hair. “Got it. Tess?”

Tess admits that she can get to the moon in four-hours, however landing with one drive pod functioning will be dicey. She will have to compensate and there will a lot of rocking. The Landing will not be smooth because there will be no VTOL. Rocinante will have to skim the surface. Worse part is, once down, Roc won't be able to take off unless the drive pod is fixed. If it is missing, then they are in big trouble.

Wyatt clenches his jaw, but otherwise doesn’t allow any more emotion than that to show. If Willow had been there, she would have recognized his concern just through that one visual indicator--Sam would have likely been able to do the same, and Trish definitely...but no one who didn’t know him really well would likely read anything from it other than annoyance. As they are already plugged in to LV-426 Wyatt let Tess continue talking.

Tess revealed that when the passengers came aboard, she’d started noticing hits from transmitters. Not surprising as a lot of the rich folk have personal transmitters that signal alliance when they are activated. These link to the cortex and the cortex is cut off. However, someone tried to signal someone else via a radio signal as soon as you were clear from the explosion. Tess jammed the signal out of pure reflex (Someone named Grace taught her that) but some of it got through. She cannot say how much. The other worrisome fact--Something is still jamming the cortex. That means it wasn't the damage to the cruise liner, it would have to be something else and they would have to be close. Not on Roc, Tess could locate that, but likely another ship out there and they don't want anyone contacting the authorities.

“Aiya!” Wyatt exclaims, slapping his hand on the arm of the chair. “That’s jus’ what we need. Some gorram pirates trailin’ us.

“John, what’s this LV-426 like? Anything good would be nice right about now.”

John quickly reports the computer’s readings: The moon being in second stage terraforming might still have atmospheric processors. They would be dormant, but a place of shelter, equipment, and if no one was looking--spare parts. Plus they would have a beacon to home in on to make landing easier.

“Well, jincai! Somethin’ at least. If they’re dormant, any way t’ activate them?” Wyatt wonders what he’d find on the Cortex about this moon if the Cortex were available. “Ok, everyone goes armed from here on. I don’t know what’s waitin’ for us on this moon, or what kind o’ Pandora’s Box we jus’ brought on board, but I aim t’ find out ‘fore it’s opened all the way. But first...”

Wyatt flips a couple of switches on his dash and activates the com to the med-bay. “Willow, how’s our li’l monk?”

Willow’s report that Sifu is badly hurt having suffered a subdural hemorrhage resulting from a tearing of the bridging veins in the subdural space between the dura and arachnoid matter didn’t raise the captain’s spirits, but Willow feels confident that she can save him and there will be no neurological damage. She is starting the procedure now, and would like John’s assistance. She should have the monk stabilized about an hour before Tess attempts the landing.

Sung stands and turns off the com. Turning to the rest of his crew he gives John a nod. “Better get on back t’ the infirmary an’ see what you can do t’ help Willow. Trish, I want you t’ guard the catwalk t’ the rest o’ the decks from the cargo bay. Ain’t no one comin’ past you without you shootin’ them dead. Don mah? Tess, cut whatever time off that four-hour tour ya can, Mei Mei. I’d also like t’ know whether we'll be touchin’ down in the light, 'r the dark. Kid, you and I are gonna do a registry check, dòng bu dòng? I want t’ see if any names stick out an’ present some possible trouble. I know there’s a Havelock down there, an’ he’s a big somebody from the War. He might know some people, so I’ll be seein’ him first. Asher, you take a clipboard, or somethin’ an’ start gatherin’ some names...maybe start with that other official fella Havelock was gabbin’ at before all hell broke loose. Wolf, I want you in that engine room keeping open coms with Tess so as t’ get her all she needs outta Roc when she needs it. Close that engine room door, ya hear? Lock it up good. I want no one sneakin’ in an’ causing trouble.

“Any statements t’ the contrary, or other ideas that might not be as bad as mine, now’s the time t’ speak up. Otherwise, let’s see if we can’t land this lame bird an’ git ‘er fixed ‘fore more things start blowin’ up.”
