Well, I've done three of the five character sketches due to the descriptions I've received.

Got this pretty all sketched up an' jus' waitin' on Blammm an' Willow's descriptions t' add their detail 'fore I start with the color. Shapin' up right nice, but time's gonna lay me low here shortly. I'm waitin' on instructions from a publisher I'm doin' art fer 'fore I can git t' work on their pretties. Tha' means tha' once they git t' it, I'll be right swamped's far as creatin' art goes. So, git some descriptors t' me so I can git this finished 'fore that happens.

Got the crew all posturin' fer the camera in front o' Rocinante (which is hoverin' in the backgroun'). Those that gots boomsticks an' such're barin' 'em an' lookin' dangerous... lookin' at it right now an' am rather pleased with myself.

As fer ship business; if'n ya folks are buyin' a share in Rocinante just total the sums ya got t' give an' we'll look at what needs purchasin'. We'll git Rocinante all stocked up an' ready.

I'm also workin' up a bit o' pretty concernin' our ship an' crew, but am findin' it a might hard t' complete seein' hows I don't have nothin' to work off of at the time 'cept Wyatt an' Rocinante (Trish'll be flyin' Rocinante so she'll not be in the pretty).

Stadate: 2366.10.23
USS Discovery, Bridge – 0925

“I want a full compliment on this away mission.” Kelsey was busy strapping on the phaser as he spoke. “Three different teams to provide the sweep.” He looked up from his waistline and faced Jack. He could tell that the 2O wasn’t at all pleased with Commander Gavison’s decision that he should remain behind, but in this situation, and with the information that had come to light earlier, Kel wasn’t taking any chances: not with an officer of his crew, and not with the slim chance that they might run into McTavish’s errant brother. “Look, Jack, if it is a trap and there are terrorists waiting for us on board that frigate, then we don’t want to risk them boarding without some security. Captain Blair has the bridge, but I need you there as well.”

Kelsey turned away from Mac before the man could respond and scanned the other members of his team. They’d be the first to transport over. The other two would be prepped as soon as Jack formed the teams. For this team, Kel had chosen Lt. Rrowl, Ensign Propst from engineering, Ensign Hails and Ensign Green from security, as well as Lt. Comdr. Waldgrave. They stood before him now outfitted with type one phasers and tricorders.

“All right team,” Kel addressed them now, allowing Jack to go about his duties. “Out objective is to determine if there are any survivors and to secure the captain’s log. If we can, I want to stop that leak—“ The commander looked directly at Katrina. “And possibly determine specifics concerning the attack.

“We’re going in careful and slow; there’s no hurry, and I don’t want anyone proceeding more than ten feet with a thorough scan for booby traps. Understood?”

With nods all around, Kel motioned everyone up on the pad and then turned to face the ensign on duty. “Go.”

All right, my post has been made. Peacekeeper is still being played by DarkAutumn, but she is indisposed for the moment so I'll be posting anything that she misses by way of her character's actions.

I appreciate your patience, gatos. I look forward to your posts.

By the way, congratulations to Suicidolt! Spiff earned himself an IP in Awareness/Notice.

The Mean Streets – Upper East Side – Night City – 12:35am

The rain made an effective screen causing vision to be limited to shapes and brief glimpses of illuminated bits of city block. For Croaker, the challenge to his vision could have been frustrating were it not for the obviously enhanced abilities of his companions. Coyote seemed to be the standard booster with augments and a curbside tongue while Preacher also appeared to have unnatural eyesight. This was something that would have to be utilized.

Croaker gave the orders, rolling around the side of the building and striking out down the puddle-infested sidewalk with Coyote and Preacher on either side. They hunched in the weather, water pouring off the brim of Preacher’s gunslinger hat like a miniature waterfall. Half a block to the south, they turned and jogged across the street insured by the darkness of a failed streetlamp. They were now a building south of the parking lot; the structure appearing to be a comic book shop with a few apartment floors overhead. The alley on the southern side of the building was narrow, allowing two people to walk side-by-side treading carefully as it was filled with junk. Cardboard boxes, broken crates, trash bags… it was all there and the rain was making it so that the odor that rose up from the filth was nearly unbearable.

They were nearly halfway through the alley when Preacher’s hand shot out stalling their progression. Both of the other men followed his gaze to a pile of slick-looking black trash bags, but couldn’t see what had caused him alarm. Then, submachine gun held forward, the urban cowboy moved forward a couple of steps while the two fellows behind him readied their weapons, unsure of what he was doing. Using his booted foot, Preacher kicked a bag aside revealing the bare, slightly gray and definitely dirty, leg of a woman all the way up to her hip. There were bruises about the thigh and it was obvious by the black tips of her toes that the body had been dead for a while.

“Though I walk through the valley…” Preacher muttered as he slowly stepped back. Bodies could be found in alleys, sewers, irrigation ditches, gullies, under overpasses, everywhere, but it was a little disturbing to find one none-the-less. It was obvious that this corpse had been stripped of anything valuable and the pelvic area had been torn apart as though something had been removed without a care for proper surgery.

Preacher’s right hand flew up to the brim of his hat, and then continued on to cross his chest. “Poor soul,” he whispered with a shake of his head. His hand continued inside his jacket to produce the corner of an old bible. He looked askance of Croaker with raised eyebrows barely visible within the shadow of his hat then shook his head. “Naw, ain’t got the time t’ perform no last rights.”

He was right. They were already pressing the envelope in taking this slight detour. Bullseye would likely be close to leaving the parking lot they’d met Spiff in and the crew that was going inside the Hole would be just as likely to be on their way. Leaving the corpse where they’d found it, the trio continued on to the end of the alley. Peering around the corner, Preacher gave a nod.

“All clear.”

Their new position was one building south of the gray apartment building Croaker had indicated they were heading for. The street upon which they found themselves now was the same street they’d initially driven while heading north past the Hole. It wasn’t particularly well-lit, but it did sport the occasional street light. The building they shouldered was a white brick, the stone near their position marked up with spray paint and stained. There were windows embedded in the cement with barred barriers between the glass and the street as well as street-level windows that started about shoulder-level. These, too, were barred and secured. From their position peering around the corner, the three men could make out the corner upon which the Hole resided and could see traffic clearly. Cars, trucks, buses, and vans all passed by. Though it was definitely not as active as it could have been, it was obvious to the three that there’d be no real break in the flow.

Ahead and to the left stood the entry stoop for the gray building Croaker had originally set his sights on. It was wide at nearly three meters and rose up a good meter to the door, providing two cement buttresses to protect the stair. The doors were inset within the brick, back from the small porch by about a meter as near as they could tell, and completely blocked from their vision by the east-facing wall of the building. A thin road ran between the apartment building by which they stood and the gray apartment building to the north. Though the road was barely big enough to allow two cars passage, there was enough space between the two buildings to equal at least thirty meters, if not more. Across the two lanes to the east and a bit kitty-corner to their position was a large tree set in a raised cement block that was easily a meter tall and two meters wide on all four sides. An iron fence surrounded the tree, but it was only half a meter high and was more decorative than functional. The building behind the tree was large and gray. It rose up six stories in the main portion with each jutting section to the north and south only being four stories high. This would be a higher security apartment building and to the north of it ran a private lane to the covered parking barely visible behind.

The building to the north of that was similar in function and more than likely in security. How the Wild Things managed to land their current residence was beyond imagination. These weren’t the slums, and the residents of these apartment buildings likely worked for corporations with enough influence that if they felt threatened an end could be put to their tomfoolery. The building on the corner east of the Hole was also an apartment building of equal height to the Hole. While there was no one walking the street at this time and in this weather other than the three edgerunners, the passing lights of moving vehicles kept the open sidewalk fairly well illuminated.

The Mean Streets – Upper East Side – Night City – 12:48am

The Mean Streets – Upper East Side – Night City – 12:40am

It was time to move. Spiff, Peacekeeper, and Firewind had been tasked to gain access to the Hole in a bold plan that would put them in the face of danger relying solely on Spiff’s ability to convince the Wild Things they had information important enough for Stallion to take personal interest in while staying alive long enough to do so. Playing at the back of the fixer’s mind was the irrevocable facts that he’d warned the players in the Hole of pending trouble and it was just as likely that they’d view his arrival as a part of it, shooting them dead on sight as thanking him for the hook-up and offering him a beer. It was little comfort that Peacekeeper was there. The beautiful woman was definitely capable of plugging a few boosters, but when the numbers started growing there were only so many bullets and even enhanced as she obviously was, she couldn’t get everyone. Firewind seemed to know the front end of a pistol from the back, but he was a medic, not a gunslinger. All in all, as the trio began their walk along the sidewalk leading to the street that ran along the north face of the Hole, the atmosphere was filled with as much tension as rain.

How was Spiff going to approach the initial meeting? Was his contact, Elizabeth, really there? Doubts started to play across the usually cool fixer’s mind as he replayed the phone conversations he’d just held with the woman. There’d been noise in the background on her end, the sounds of music had been prominent as well as screaming and yelling, but not in a fearful way. It was more like there had been a party going on… a lot of noise, more than could have possibly been going on at the Hole… rock bands playing… the high-pitched squeak of audio feedback for a moment just before the conversation ended.

Thunder rolled overhead and an eighteen wheeler passed close by the curb spraying rainwater onto the cement of the sidewalk, cascading a heavy sheet of water over the lower legs of the medtech. The wind had picked up slightly and the rain was moving with a stinging force. They were just past the corner and heading east towards the Hole, two blocks to the west; it was a miserable night.

Meat Location: The Farris Family Inn – Night City – 10:14pm; The Net: Night City Grid – Night City University Net Campus/Administration Building.

Like any large college campus Night City U was pretty much a self-sufficient city within the greater city surrounding it, but the government still ran the mail and a P.O. Box, though more than likely available on campus, was operated by the state government since the separation of the Californias from the United States in 2012. Jazzer had hit the campus on a couple of other occasions in the past and knew that the post would be handle through the Student Union building, so he packed it in, backed out of the administration building using his invisibility successfully to avoid the security guards once again. This run was definitely going better than his past two attempts tonight. His heart rate had even slowed back to normal.

Stepping into the fake air of the campus, the invisible mogwai jogged down the street to the north, past Thompson Hall with its peculiar plastic alloy shapes and architecture to a row of nicely rendered trees where each group of leaves moved individually, though sometimes passing through each other in impossibly physically limiting ways. Through the trees Jazzer spotted Knute Hall to his left (a park was across the street to his right where icons lounged, sun-bathed, and played Frisbee with their fake dogs). Then he was there, ducking across the lawn, underneath some of the swaying canopies, and to the side door of the Student Union.

Jazzer was immediately inundated by the scent of coffee, the sounds of laughter, and the low hum of talking. To his right stood the bookstore, a virtual representation that allowed students to order through a delivery service, or to purchase virtual renditions of the same items and never have to worry about the physical thing for a discount. Ahead of him a large atrium spread out with benches, chairs, and plenty of icons spending time getting to know one another, or just studying. It was into the bookstore that Jazzer went, and it was there that he found the post desk, behind which stood a very seductive-looking chrome rendition of a female post office employee, her blouse rendered particularly low. She stood behind a desk sorting mail that was more than likely emails. After studying her for a moment, Jazzer determined that she was an AI designated as the mail server.

The room was small with the desk taking up the majority of the western wall, behind which was a representation of further mail rooms and such, but Jazzer decided it was just an illusion and he wouldn’t be able to access those. The north and east walls were covered with small silver boxes marked by bronze nameplates bearing numbers and a keyhole designed to accept microchipped keys. The southern wall bore the door through which Jazzer had moved his invisible self.

The Mean Streets – Upper East Side - Night City/Rooftop next to the Hole – 12:35pm

The two men lay on the roof soaked through as the weather seemed to take a turn for the worse, if possible. DigitalScribe shivered against the chill that had set in and focused on scanning the Hole for any sign of something newsworthy. He knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that there was something here, the itch in his gut was like a rat gnawing away at his insides and despite not having any action going on right now, his heart was racing. The wet around him didn’t continue on to his mouth with the anticipation of what was happening; Frankie’s mouth was as dry as a sun bleached bone in the Sahara. Beside him, Guardian hadn’t said a word for the duration.

Where was Croaker? Frankie glanced out towards the street, then back over the edge towards the parking lot. The nomad was nowhere to be seen and it confused the media just a bit. He knew Croaker well enough to know that the man wouldn’t give up, and the trail to the Hole was pretty glaring; so where was he?

“Any sign of my friends?” DigitalScribe raised the question in a hushed tone, turning to look at Guardian in the process, his shoulder-mounted camera following his gaze, though the small red light on the underside told the bodyguard that it wasn’t recording.

Char gave a slight nod at Dapple's assesment of the mages and then glanced up from underneath his brow and through his hair when she nudged him to see that spooky, unnatural approaching. When the wizard suggested he help cook Char was about to say he had it covered, but Dapple spoke up before he could. A chill settled in across the ranger's skin, setting goosebumps astride at the proximity to Jal. It was probably self-induced, but Char didn't care to think of it any further. Taking the birds up by the feet, he rose quickly to his feet, flipping his antler-handled knife in his hand so that the blade was now pointed out... towards Jal, though not necessarily in a threatening manner.

"Needs t' gut an' clean 'em firs'. Den ya be spicin' these ones up 'ere, bu' no' this'n. Don' much care fer the unnatural flavors." The ranger's eyes were hard and narrowed a bit as he strode towards the door. Cleaning the game would take place outside where the entrails could be ditched far enough away from the waymeet that it wouldn't cause problems by attracting scavengers.

Char returns some time later with the gutted birds. He tosses all but one down before Jal and without a word returns to his cross-legged seat near Dapple and Sunset. He'll wait his turn to cook the bird without spices, allowing those who are interested in the flavored meat a chance to get the other game cooked before roasting and eating a share of his.

Topic: Voyages of the Rocinante - Firefly RPG QnA
Subject: Some added figurin'.

Been doin' some figurin' and prepped a sheet fer Rocinante tha' I've gotta run by the GM still, bu' it's pretty much the same story as the character sheet, so I don't think Al'll be put out. Anyhow's, I was lookin' at'cher suggestions an' this is wha' I've figured:

We be after defensivatin' Rocinante, so with them Attribute points Al's so generously offered up I says we raise Rocinante's Agility from a d8 t' a d10. That'll give us more manueverability an' I think with Dash at the controls that'll Dao-Gao-Yee-Chi Moh-Gao-Yee-Juhn any sah gwa we need t'. The other two points should go t' Alertness t' give us a heads up on ma fuhn. This'll raise tha' from a d2 t' a d4. If'n y'all don't have no problem with tha' I'll make the adjustments t' Rocinante.

Now, I already spent some credits t' purchase a large hover mule. I liked the way the crew o' Serenity could hoof it on that mule an' figured it'd be handy t' 'ave one ourselves, though I needs someone t' drive it cause I sure as hell can't. Leastwise, not that decent.

As far as outfittin' 'er further 'ere's the wave:

Wound armor (Rocinante)
120 tons/point.
24 tons volume/point.
1,200 cr/point

Stun armor (Rocinante)
24 tons/point
24 tons volume/point
1,000 cr/point
Each short range (100lbs-decoy [x5 cost] = 500 cr) apiece.

Now, I've spent a lot o' my lefto'er credits from gear purchasin' t' buy some basics fer Rocinante. Like I said, got the mule, added a garden bunk (figure tha' sits in the mess hall, 'bout the size o' a bunk an' can provide us with a paltry helpin' o' fresh veggies in the black), got 1 week o' protein paste fer all o' us; not the best tastin' stuff, but it's foodstuffs when we need it, outfitted Rocinante with 10 NBC masks in case we need t' worry 'bout gas an' the like. Placed these strategically 'bout the ship. 6 vacuum suits hang out in the hold, an we've 2 basic first aid kits (one in the hold an' one in the infirmary). I also purchased a medcomp for the infirmary. Any y'all wanna add t' this gear, it'll only 'elp us. Still need some more medstuff, real food won't be bad, but I figure we're dockin' soon so it'll be more likely tha' we're 'bout outta stuff.

Al, ya got any problem with this stuff, let me know an' I'll subtract. Otherwise, I've refigured Rocinante's maintenance cost t' be: 4,800 credits/year, or 400 credits/month. The four additional Attribute points raised the complexity t' Average.

I've sent ya my new character sheet figurin' this stuff in with Rocinante's sheet bein' a tab in there.

The Alliance don't take kindly t' civilian ships running the black with a cannon, so sportin' one'd make runnin' blockades an' the like a mite difficult. I'd steer away o' them obvious modifications.

This is the costs and such for adding different kinds of plating:

One point of Wound armor (damage resistant
hull plating) weighs 5% of ship tonnage, takes
up 1% of ship’s tonnage as volume, and costs 10
credits per ton of weight. One point of Stun armor
(electronic hardening, radiation shielding, etc.) takes
up 1% of ship’s tonnage (both mass and volume)
and costs 1,000 credits per ton.

Rocinante definitely needs an infirmary I think. I'm thinkin' tha' we do what the crew o' Serenity did an' use cargo #2 fer that.

Ya want t' upgrade the defensiveness o' Rocinante we could upgrade the manueverability, git us some decoy missiles like they done, an' we may want us a mule, er somethin'. Them 're some idears.

Still only 'ad one of you lot voice up with wha' kinda pay yer lookin' for.

Dash's in for the ride, full blown, takin' a cut o' the proceeds insurin' Rocinante's taken care o' first, 'course. What 'bout the rest ya'all?

Topic: Voyages of the Rocinante - Firefly RPG QnA
Subject: This is the place...

Well, I want to get started fleshing out Rocinante, so here's where I'm going to do it (unless Al deletes the post and reprimands me). Now, Al said that the set up of the ship was up to us overall. Rocinante could be completely paid off and be the basic ship, or there could be upgrades and money owed on the boat. There are downsides to both. First of all, Fireflies are common ships. Everyone knows them, everyone's seen them, and their weakenesses are easy to exploit. That's the biggy for the basics. The downside to owing on the ship and outfitting her the way we want is obviously that money'd be owed to a person who'd likely collect at the end of a gun every month, and this is in addition to the normal costs of maintaining the vessel.

The standard stats for a Firefly are as follows:

Dimensions (LxBxH): 191 x 128 x 53 feet.
Tonnage: 2,400 tons.
Crew Quarters: Two double (one's mine... any suggestions on who's is number two?), three single cabins.
Fuel Capacity: 600 hours regular burn.
Cargo Capacity/Maximum Deck Load: 400/460 tons in hold #1; 100/220 tons in hold #2.
Passenger Capacity: Four double cabins aft of #2.
Gear: Two 20-ton shuttles.

That's really all there is that you really need to know. Now, there are programs you can buy to increase her performance and there are alterations you can make at the cost of tonnage and credits, sometimes sacrificing things like the shuttles, but in its current state, it requires a Maintenance cost of 1,920 credits/year. The more you add to it, the more expensive that becomes.

By way of comparison, Serenity's stats are:
Dimensions (LxBxH): 191 x 128 x 53 feet.
Tonnage: 2,400 tons.
Crew Quarters: Two double (one's mine... any suggestions on who's is number two?), three single cabins.
Fuel Capacity: 600 hours regular burn.
Cargo Capacity/Maximum Deck Load: 400/460 tons in hold #1.
Passenger Capacity: Four double cabins aft of #2.
Gear: Two 20-ton shuttles. Infirmary in #2 hold. Hover mule. At least six 50-pound, short range decoy missiles in cargo.

She also sports a few more programs, but her maintenaince cost is 3,872 credits/year.

Also, while you're thinking about it, you're going to want to define whether your character gets paid a salary, or wants a piece of the action after Rocinante's costs are all covered.

All right, in answer to the speechifyin'... there are three basic boundaries in the 'Verse as near anyone cares t' chart. The Core Planets, The Border Planets, and the Rim Planets. Ya could think o' these as New York City/Paris, France/London, England fer the Core where they are "refined", "civilized", and in my humble opinion: cattle followin' the easy-simple life of an Alliance slave. Numbers is all they are; numbers who can provide the rich with a way ter get richer. Then ya gots the Border. Close enough ter the Core ter do some good trades an' such, but a bit nappier. Think o' Detroit City, or some other blue collar city on Earth-That-Was an' I'll be thinkin' yer doin' right. Solid folk with an eye towards makin' their coin an' eventually tradin' up. Then ya gots the Rim. Them that reside on the Rim planets be salt-o'-the-earth types (t' generalize) an' ya best picture them as the types from the old Westerns o' Earth-That-Was.

If'n ya watched the series, or the movie, they talk with strange curves thrown in there speechifyin'. They refer t' things usin' slang, cowpoke talk, an' swear in Chinese. 'Course, that's mostly those that come from the Rim planets an' maybe a little from the Border. Them that comes from the Core (like Simon and River) they speechify with a right perty tongue, using clean dialogue an' rarely swearin', but still swearin' in Chinese.

English an' Chinese are the predominant tongues in the 'Verse, though--like Al said--they ain't the only ones. Hope that 'elps...

Oh, an' I love t' flavor things up with right proper speechifyin'. It makes life interestin'.

The response brought a strange image to the ranger's mind, but it also brought another image to Char's mind. Out of the corner of his eye he watched the street waif wrap herself back into her shadowy embrace and take the abused dragonkin with her. His lips pursed as he tore out the brightly colored tail feathers. Then, quite suddenly, he made a decision.

"So, wha' ya tink o' the two slingers?" His voice was low, carrying only to Dapple's ears.

(OOC: sorry, couldn't remember what I'd posted the question for and it confused all who read it, so I've edited the post.)

It was suggested that our characters will have been in the black for a while together and as such, know something about each other. As such, here's what ya'all'd know concernin' Wyatt:

Ni how. Name's Wyatt Sung an' I'm whatcha might call a Rimmer. Now, ya wants t' glean a bit of know-how 'bout me an' mine, so's I'll make it speedy-like. I was born to a mercentile-man who owned an' worked his own shop on Jiangyin. My ma was a sweet li'l ol' woman o' Korean-blood who helped 'round-about the shop. I grew up with them wanting me t' excel in my educatin' an' pick up the family business, but that weren't fer me. I got the itch t' travel, ya know? Went on to work at a ranch out yonder hills from town as a hand movin' cattle an' the like back an' forth t' the shipyards an' spendin' my hard-earned livin' at dance halls and gamblin'. 'Course, as fate would 'ave it that's where I made acquaintance with my wife, Eden. Now, I could ramble on 'bout the way she looked an wax all poetic an' such, but a man'd be plumb stupid t' latch himself t' someone he thought was just joo bah jeh, so I'll's jus' leave it at I married the woman an' move on. Couldn't do 'er justice anyways.
Like I said, we married an' I stopped spendin'. That gave me rights t' purchase a small piece o' land near the stretch I rode. I began keepin' cattle an' Eden glorified our spread. Then my baby girl was birthed. We named her Summer 'cause that's what she brought t' our home… an' she was birthed in the summer. 'Course, all my time carousin' and womanizin' must've tempted the fates 'cause that's also the year the Unification War started.
Jiangyin weren't no interest t' the Alliance an' I don't much care fer politickin', but Eden was all in a fit 'bout it. She kept on an' on, every meal, an' I didn't stop her none. I thought it quaint at first; ya know? But the sun set on that dern quick. I laid down the law… practically bound her by it. Was the last convo I had with her, an' the last time I saw my daughter livin'.
Some big damn bad men came by while I was rangin'. They was Alliance supporters an' my beautiful wife wouldn't lie down as far as her politickin' was doin' an' they killed 'er fer it. They torched the homestead with Summer still inside… I killed 'em dead that night in town. All of them. Took my scattergun in the saloon after I did some researchin' an' opened them all up. After, I was bound by law. I coulda run, but I don't run, an' the Law bound me. I was due t' be hung when a roughrider by the name o' Sam Hayword was dropped in my cell fer performin' the fisticuffs in the saloon 'cross town. He told me all sorts 'bout the Browncoats an' the fightin' 'gainst the Alliance; so much that my ear was done near talked off. When he was plumb tuckered out I lay wakeful an' thought 'bout Eden, Summer, and the Fight. I thought 'bout Eden's politickin' an' knew then an' there the only ways I could do her an' my baby girl honors would be t' carry on her dreams.

The sheriff was a sympathizer with the Browncoats so it took little convincicatin' t' get 'im t' let me go so long as he never saw me no more. Me an' Sam hitched us a ride t' the nearest recruitin' post an' volunteered. Sam went off t' foot soldierin' somewhere's an' I gots the flyin' gig tha' got me familiar with the Firefly. Tha' boat was called Celestial Diva an' she was a handful; all skirts an' no sense, but she could run them blockades. The rush o' flyin' helped keep my mind off Eden an' Summer-girl, an' I gotsta kill me some Alliance. I continued t' run blockades an' kill me some purple bellies 'til them tian di wu yohn in high command signed that treaty. That's when I was left with something of a pickle in the brainpan. I didn't know what t' do with myself an' memories were lookin' t' kill me. Saloons became my puhn yoh, liquor, my ma tze. I won Rocinante in a card game with a fella who claimed I was cheatin'. He drew on me an' I killed 'im. That was on Beylix. I didn' run then niether, an' I was bound by law fer the second time. The trial didn't hold no water though. Witnesses came forward an' I was released. I was aboard Rocinante not really knowin' what to do when the crew started tricklin' in. They was the godsend, the tian-ling-ling, di-ling-ling. They gave me a purpose again. They gave me a family. There ain't no god that can give me back my girls, but these riders who brave the black with me, trustin' my decisions; they're mine an' no one humps what's mine.

Well, Wyatt's sitting in your inbox waitin' approval. There's also an easy character sheet included for the other characters if you so desire to use it. If not, I won't be offended. I look forward to feedback.

The hunt went well. Enough food, if portioned, to feed all within the company and a tasty catch at that. Upon returning to the waymeet the ranger takes a moment to stop within the shadows of the undergrowth he’d escaped into. He scans the area about the rest stop and doesn’t move again until he determines that it is safe to proceed. Stepping through the door, he is immediately hit by a familiar sense of spicy sausage. There had been a time when spicy food of any kind made him blanch, but since sharing mental energies with Sunset, the ranger had found himself sharing a fondness for the meat. Casting about with his eyes he eventually spotted one of Sunset’s wings protruding from Dapple’s cloak. She was hiding…

Striding across the room—again, avoiding Jal—Char dropped the birds near Dapple’s feet and in one, smooth motion, dropped into a cross-legged position behind them. He set his bow down next to him and withdrew his antler-handle knife from its sheathe at his waist. Without any preamble, the ranger began to pluck the fowl.

“Wot ‘appened wit’ ‘er?” he asked Dapple after a moment, jerking his head towards Sunset’s lumpy form beneath the cloak. He didn’t like it when he felt the little pseudo dragon had been messed with. Ever since finding her in that horrible laboratory, he’d been very protective of her. He continued to pluck at the birds, but from underneath his low brow his icy blue eyes darted between the two mages.

Alloryn had been different; haughty, but different. These two were cryptic. Where Alloryn had been a noble’s daughter from the first day he’d met her, she’d also been Adrien’s sister and the camaraderie Char had developed with the knight had quickly helped sooth whatever grievances had been contrived between the mageling and the ranger, eventually developing into a sort of friendship. Jal Spellbinder was an unnatural enigma that sent shivers down the woodsman’s spine while Valentine appeared to be the epitome of a magic-using type as far as Char’s experience with them went. Sunset could very well be remembering her “stay” at the laboratory when she set eyes on either man.

But Al done sent me a PM an' telled me that it'd be probable and likely that I'd be playin' the Lao Buhn. I admit, I felt a powerful need t' mi'tian gohn in my breeches. I'd originally signed on t' fly this boat, solely an' cleanly. Then I gots t' thinkin' an' a slow smile did play upon these here lips. I can have my cake an' eats it too... or somethin' like that was said on Earth-that-was times. So, it looks like I gots my medic an' ambassador as well as my hired gun an' that's all how. Barrin' old Al bindin' me by law, I think I'll take on the responsibilities of captaining an' pilotin', though I have serious doubts that I won't be fairly decent with an iron too.

'Course, I'll need t' know the condition an' ownerships of my boat... Rocinante, a Firefly class.

Oh, an' as far as that character sheet done did go; I'd promise t' keep 'er simple. I'm new t' the rulebook an' 'ave no plan t' get fahn dahn jus' yet, puhn yoh. 'Sides, this here system looks t' be pretty straight shootin' if'n ya ask me.

Ni how, my name's Wyatt Sung, an' I captain this boat.

I had no idea that you were playing, Tann! Welcome aboard! This is a great game where a bunch of people have been thrown together in the pursuit of intel on some radical imperialists. We've got a knight-type who is played by Olan, an acerbic rogue played by Vanadia, a friendly dwarf played by Raven, I play a ranger who sounds like he's got mud in his mouth half the time, and then there's this loon of a wizard (psst... I think he see's dead people) played by Eol, a haughty wizard (makes two... took me a while to discern between them) played by Admiral, and then there's this gladiator, though I'm not really sure who plays him. Will you be taking over that roll?

Cathy, Char is off seeking fresh meat. I've never had any problem with him striking up conversation with those he knows in the party. He's just a bit leary of that crazy mage talking to himself in the corner. Hey! Maybe Char and Dapple could make fun of him! They might even be able to throw small pebbles at him for sport!

I love the idea of starting out with some heat. "Earn the dough and pay up, or there'll be hell t' pay."

I'll take either the pilot role (if'n it ain't already been hugged none.) or the doc's role. Already got me a couple o' idears that I'm thinkin' are pretty how. Whatever the ship is tha' we call home, I'm game... and as far as timeframes are concerned...

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me...

Like you said, Puhn Yoh.

I imagine you'll be gettin' t' the ruttin' details an' all concernin' the heroic level of the crew an' what not, but I'm chompin' at the bit, so t' say, an' am lookin' fer some meat t' chew. If you want, I'll make a character sheet in Excel.

Got the book. Haven't read it, though the pictures are pretty. Just looking for some feedback and confirmation that we're actually doing this thing.

I'm in. I was at the convention where they released the book for the first time. It went like wildfire, but I did get a chance to peak at it. Let me know where you need me and I'll come up with something. I may even get the book just because I'm a fan of the series and "I aim t' misbehave."
