Xavier's ears perked up at the sounds which began to surround them. These were always fun... And who knows, maybe he could even get the jump on them... Well, his friends definitely wouldn't like what he was about to do, but they would thank him for it in the end.

Looking around frantically, Xavier begins to looked panicked "Ah! The voices! They're after me! Sorry, but I need to leave. Tootles!"

With that, Xavier scrambles to the nearest tree and clambers up it, escaping into the foliage. Once there, he stays silent and hidden, watching the scene from above.

New Update is up. This one is very targeted at Mora, since Dragon Mistress was the only one to post after the last update. Next time though, it will encompass more people.

Mora's parents look concerned, but resigned. Looking back at their small farmhouse, and the property that is the field, now scorched, frozen, trampled on, and with the thrall there, they both let out a simultaneous sigh. "Maybe you're right Mora. Maybe we should go to your Uncle Geran's. He always was a nice fellow, and I'm sure he'll still be willing to let us stay there, if only for a little while." Mora's father said.

"But Mora..." he continued, "you have to go there too. Not now, I see you have friends you have a loyalty to... But you..." A choked hiccough escapes his mouth, and his eyes begin to water. "You... you gotta survive Mora. You gotta survive... for us." Tears begin to roll down his cheeks, and Mora's mother breaks into full out tears, clinging to Mora in a tight embrace. After what seems like ages, she lets go, and the two, still sobbing, gather their things and head out, going south.

Returning to the group, Mora slips on the amulet. Nothing happens at first, the amulet is simply around her neck, though Mora can sense magic coming from it.

Gathering her things, Mora prepares for the travels ahead. She knows they will not be easy, but she knows that they are necessary.

Topic: Tome of Battle
Subject: Is the book Broken? Or is the player?

Well, let's look at one thing really carefully here... the book is not necessarily the broken thing. It's just like the old saying: Guns don't kill people, the people using the gun does.

Tome of Battle is an exceptional resource. Warblades, Swordsages and Crusaders are incredible fun to play. They add to an experience, just like another expansion class from the standard set of rules.

People say they're broken. Okay, I can see how. All of a sudden you've got a sword toting whack job who is throwing fire all over the place while jumping over his enemies dealing damage and attacking 20 times in a round. Sure, this may be extreme, but let's look at another topic here: munchkins.

The munchkin is able to take any class, and make it beautifully powerful. As has been stated before, not all classes are created equal... but neither are the players. If a player has a vast knowledge of the material, and has tons of experience, then they can make a monk (I'll use this because of the statement above) a tank, impenetrable to anything. After all, even though a warblade may get 20 attacks in a turn, it's no good if they can't hit. The character is not so much the book making it broken, but the player optimizing it to the point where it doesn't even seem like a real person, just a video game character who's playing on the easiest level after he's level 60.

As another example of an overly powered class, in my opinion, let's look at the eldritch knight. They get Good BAB, good Fort and Will saves, and they get bonus caster levels? That seems a little powerful. Throw in a twilight mithral breastplate, and you've got yourself an impenetrable warrior, who if he wants to can throw a fireball at you from 1000 feet, or dominate you to do his bidding, or enhance himself. There's far more capabilities for a wizard/fighter/eldritch knight then for a swordsage or warblade, or crusader.

So is Tome of Battle broken? I don't think so. I think that it's very much so dependent on the player to make a character who can destroy worlds, as oppose to the characters being predisposed to the action.

I'm quite fond of the binder class actually. It serves very nicely as a multi purpose character... very much like Master of Masks in the "Complete Scoundrel" volume. I would defs play one.

Subject: Dead Khords? Madness!

The world seemed to be crashing around Baldorf. Well, at least someone was taking charge, because the world wasn't being viewed straight from Baldorf. But, once the groups split, and then Baldorf stumbled upon the lake, seeing the Khords littered on the mushroom. This was madness. Khords were his people... they weren't meant to be decorations. This was infuriating. Baldorf would not stand for it. However, some flash of mental clarity told him the immediately running into the pool was not the best idea. But something had to go in there...

All of a sudden, Baldorf saw Niaou'li dropping a mushroom into the lake, tied to a rope. Maybe it would be possible to see what happens to life as it gets placed in the water.

Baldorf moved over there, holding his dagger by the blade, as he moved over behind his companion. He remind silent, and simply watched, the silent question on his lips, wondering what was going to happen with the mushroom. Baldorf was still awkward around people, and didn't enjoy it. His beard was still blowing, even though air wasn't blowing down. It had happened ever since that incident.

Cain takes his warhammer, grasping it firmly in his hand, and takes out his shield. "Argh, a bloody lizard here! Well laddie, and elves, we better eliminate that thing! But be careful... I'm not sure I've ever seen a scaly one alone!"

Cain advances on the Kobold, hammer drawn, preparing to use his thorn strike to pull the Kobold closer to him so that he could wallop on the lizard more.

With Trillion observing the amulet, and pouring her magics into it to discover what it is, she is able to deduce that the amulet allows the wearer to understand an ancient language, used in dragon and human relations, known as Dracommonic. It is a dead language, and hasn't been used in almost 600 years. It is very complex, and is difficult to learn, from what you know of it.

Mora, then going over to her parents, asks them about the burning of Badon, and the destruction.

"Mora, I don't know what to tell ye." Her father responds. "I can't remember what's happened before seeing you, and that crazy which show up, and after seeing this bright light in the sky. Nothing happened. It seems. I feel like something should be there... but it's just not. I see a vague image of a boy, but that's it. And I don't even know if my mind is playing tricks on me. Mora what happened?"

Meanwhile, Selunine continued her interrogation of Sonia.

"My mistress, Linus was there. But please, don't blame his actions on the Black Fang... the establishment is a very fine one, with no harm in our agenda... at least until he took it over. But yes, Linus was responsible for that."

(OoC: Okay guys, we're back... I hope. I'm sorry about the hold up in the game, and I hope we can get everyone back... Check over you character sheets, see if everything's still right... And I'll be here for a while, looking forward to gaming with you all again.)

I would say that, for the DM, the Book of Vile Darkness is a great resource when it comes to making villains that you want to be memorable, and it gives some good rules on the.

Also, depending on what direction you want to take these players, and what you want them to engage in, I would say Draconomicon could be a fantastic resource. Very detailed in Dragon uses, and other kinds of dragons.

Also, the Magic Item Compendium is brilliant for giving out treasure, as there are magic items in there for every class, every level, every need... It's wonderful.

There's just some advice from me. I hope your game works out!

Topic: Weight system in 4e?
Subject: I'm pretty sure this is the answer...

This is from Page 222 of the Player's Handbook:

Multiply your strength score by 10. This is your normal load in pounds. You can move around without a penalty while carrying less that this.

Multiply your Strength score by 20. This is your heavy load, the maximum weight you can lift off the ground. If you try to move with this much weight, you're slowed.

Multiply your Strength score by 50. This is your maximum drag load. You can push or pull up to this amount, though you're slowed, and cannot push/pull on difficult terrain.

Usually, as a rule of thumb, you let the DM of the game roll his dice for you, since he has your skill bonus, and that way, there is not chance of cheating. This isn't saying you're going to cheat, it's just a precaution.

But to answer your other question, yes, it would be the d20 + 9.

Cain looked around the woods. It was elf land, but it had a primal resonance to it which made him smile on the inside. And that was the extent of his smiling, as he was reminded of his company. However, he had a bit of insight when it came to the natural world, and so he decided to show them up in a contest in their own world... but how... how...

Then, Cain had a good idea. Or at least, what he though was a good idea. He was probably heartier than all of them... which meant he could cover more ground than them running.

"Well ye woodland folk. I'll be back in a little while, I'm going to go take a run around the place, and I'll be able to have a look see about the general area. I'll take a look, and run around."

With that, Cain took off running, deciding to head to the left first, and then completely cover the ground at full speed, pushing his endurance to the limit, but also testing his natural knowledge, and seeing what he could see.

OoC: I'm gonna be running a lot, and using my Endurance skill to be able to keep running. While I'm doing that, I'm going to use Nature and Perception to notice anything.

Hmm... well, this will give pay... I'll be able to finally buy that cherry tree that I've thought would look very nice in my cave... But I have to put up with people... Ah, what I'd give for a nice tankard of ale right now... Bah, well, I best get some shut eye before this quest... Kobolds. Can't stand 'em. It'll be fun to give 'em justice.

Walking down the streets, Cain hums deeply to himself, singing to himself. The busy streets were busy with activity. This task was going to be very noble to his people, and honourable. But they were with elves... so many elves... Why? This world was unfair. However, the primal spirits deemed he needed to put up with them to complete this task. He was ready. His hammer on his back, his shield with it, he had a smiled, and stroked his beard. Well, time to sleep.

...
...
...

The next day, Cain arose with the sun, and marched to the meeting point. Seeing the elves, a slight disappointment happened on his mood, but he instead shook it off, and turned his head to look at the sole human. Well, he would be a good companion.

"Alright laddie... and elves... Are ye ready fer a good trip 'ere? Well, as good as it can be. Well, les get goin', I've got some money to earn, and some ancestors to honor, not to mention the primal spirits to appease. But ye know that anyway." Cain draws his hammer, and shield, and points it forward. "Onward companions!"
