It took Gannag a while to realize that some of the abilities he possessed got him out of a predicament only slightly more often than his lack of other abilities got him into one. But when the torch finally did illuminate the thought for him, he decided that maybe a change in career might make his life easier.

So he retired from the profession as a cutpurse and began his mentoring as a wizard. It seemed easier to let magic for him what he had to work for in his previous profession.

Ah, but the fates conspire, do they not?

Gannag's mentor found that, while Gannag didn't have the particular focus for the necessary precision required byt some spells, he seemed to have an innate ability to cast some of the simpler ones without preparation or memorization. So he changed the course of Gannag's tutelage and began grooming him to be a sorcerer. This was fine with Gannag. While he was frustrated with his seeming inability to remember some spells that he would like to have had, he managed to learn and retain a number of spells he felt could aid him in his thievery attempts. He tried this theory out once, on his mage-mentor -- once.

He had, for some time coveted a small, hand-held crossbow the mage kept in his laboratory to use for shooting rats. It never seemed to miss. One night, while the mage slept, Gannag changed his appearance with magic. He then picked the lock on the laboratory door, slid in, and picked up the crossbow. As he turned to leave, he noticed the mage standing in the doorway. Furious, the mage bellowed and began an incantation that Gannag had never heard, and he didn't want to take time to analyze an angry mage. As he started forward, hoping against hope that he could dodge around the mage whild he was occupied with the casting, he tripped! Sprawling unceremoniously on the floor of the lab, Gannag lost his grip on the crossbow. Awaiting the terrible pain he knew was to come, he curled up into a ball so he wouldn't be hard to carry out.

It was a few seconds before Gannag noticed that his former mentor had not finished the spell he had been in the process of casting. Thinking the wizard had decided on mercy rather than punishment, Gannage uncurled and stood up slowly, raising his head to look upward at the mage's face in abject fear.

Then he looked down, quickly and in extreme surprise. The mage was lying on the floor with a small crossbow bolt jutting out from between his eyes. Now absolute terror gripped Gannag, for he knew the mage had good friends locally. who were wizards themselves. He was certain that he would not live long if he took any time at all to gather anything but a few quick belongings he kept packed for short trips. These he grabbed and left, going as far and as fast as he could, changing directions often and speaking to no one unless absolutely necessary.

A month later, still worrying and near collapse from lack of sleep, Gannag stopped near the outskirts of a town to camp. He sat wearily on a rock to rest for a bit before making a small fire, and within minutes was surrounded by black-and-brown garbed shapes, of which he quickly counted no less than a dozen. He was, shortly, bound and carried into town, trussed like unto a cocoon, obviously to prevent any chance of escape or magical resistance. He was carried into a building and down a long set of steps, into a large room, cool and damp with musty underground air. Here was he offered a second chance at a new life. Once untied, he was told that the men he was speaking to were from a guild of assassin working under the cover of a local, and legitimate, business. They had heard that one looking as he did had murdered a well-reputed mage. They informed him that if he could do so as easily as was described to them, they would be the better for his skills.

Gannag didn't have the heart to disappoint them with a story of weak-kneed fear and a lucky happenstance, so he said nothing of the truth. He did, however inform them that he needed to think about it. He is currently staying in a single room at a good quality (local) inn.

Sossennod would have been happy to continue as a rogue and expand his skills in stealth and information-gathering, but for his encounter with a new weapon and a formidable opponent.

"Nod", as he was known to his associates, had stolen a magical crossbow from a fighter's guild in a daring break-and-enter in broad daylight. It wasn't until later that he found that the weapon rarely missed. Nod decided that the weapon was a worthwhile addition to his skills and kept it. This bold act of defiance did not set well with his superiors. When they demanded that Nod hand over the weapon to them, he flatly refused.

So his superiors issued a contract for his assassination. Nod found this out and fled, moving from town to city to village, never knowing when an attempt on his life would be made, or who would do it.

Just when he had begun to relax and believe that he had evaded his unknown pursuer(s), the attempt was flung upon him, in all surprise and suddenness. But the assassin's inital attempt on Nod's life was unsuccessful. Oh, Nod was wounded, and seriously so, but found cover, and a ranged battle ensued. As it happened, Nod's third shot found the top of the would-be assassin's head, killing him instantly. Nod, walked away, nursed his wounds, and continued with his life. For all of two days.

He was accosted by a group of six recognizable assassins, whose purpose it was to escort, not to kill. He was escorted back to his former guild and offered the position of the assassin who had tried to kill him. He was informed that the only other alternative was immediate death at the hands of the six who had escorted him.

Nod agreed.

Dora's family was a family of warriors. Dora was expected to follow the family tradition, and she knew it. She actually looked forward to it, for she had a propensity for power. She coveted it, wanted it, needed it. And being a warrior was a way to power, a warrior's very action was the exertion of physical power over another -- in order to subdue, maim, or kill -- thereby garnering the more esoteric and less material power of fear.

But she had the opportunity to witness real power in action one day.

Out wandering, she happened upon a family gathering for a nearby halfling village (not her own). As she approached, she noted a shadow from a flying creature pass over her. Glancing up, she saw a white dragon just as it closed it's wings for a steep dive, aiming for the halfling gathering she was approaching. In just two passes, the dragon wiped out nearly all of the attendees of the gathering. Those that escaped were eith seriously or mortally wounded. A brief glance was all it took for Dora to turn and sprint back the way she came, taking cover and scanning the sky wherever she could along the way.

At first Dora considered herself lucky that she hadn't been a target for the dragon's wrath. Then she saw everything in a slightly different light. What she had witness was real power, and uncaring wielding of wrath for reasons known only to the dragon and the dead. This is the kind of power Dora wanted to wield, and so she began to research dragon-kind and dragon-kin in an effort to understand the mindset. It was then she learned that a white dragon was a quite uncommon visitation for her temperate homeland. But that was of no matter or consequence to Dora. The gaining and garnering of that sort of power was even more attractive than being a warrior. So she began to emulate the lifestyle and mindset of a white dragon whenever she could. Over time -- years of time -- she gained some skills in combat, and was even able to create a breath weapon that was of the sort used by a white dragon.

At this, Dora was ecstatic! But there was something missing. It took her nearly a month to find out what it was, and discovered, quite by accident, a new interest. She had heard that a local traveler was recruiting "special people" for a task that paid well. Dora went to apply, and was slightly shocked that the man wanted a local sherrif assassinated. According to him, the sooner, the better. Now here was a test of her new-found power-weapon! Dora simply walked into the sherrif's office, stood in front of him and breathed her frost-ice cold breath into his face. Stunned and blinded as he was, she moved quickly to lide her dagger in between his ribs and into his heart. He perished nearly instantly, but not soundlessly. His screams were heard, but by the time anyone approached the sherriff's office to investigate, Dora had simply walked away with a new-found satisfaction, a new profession, and, later, a good chunk of "change"...

Subject: Okay, Tampa Bay didn't deserve the stanely cup...

I'm sorry, I just can't handle the fact that they could have pulled that off. In game six, Calgary scored during that third period, so the game should not have gone into overtime, leading to tampa bay scoring, and then continuing to use home ice advantage to win the cup. This might just be me speaking, but almost half of Tampa bay doesn't even know the rules of hockey.

In my humble, outspoken opinion, no state south of Indiana should have a team. Hockey just isn't a sport that's climatized for those places. Stick to... i dunno, baseball, or basketball or something.

This is by no means a comment against the southern states who do have a hockey team, it is only my opinion.

Oh, and just to add to the first paragraph, I'm a little biased, seeing as I'm calgarian... but still, they scored that in the third.

"Of course milday, I'll have the chefs whips something up for you right away. Say, wasn't there another man with you? Looked like somewhat of a mage? Where'd he go? Must've slipped out during the night, as he's not in his room... So, breakfast for three?" The woman bustles off. into the kitchen, keeping quiet as it is still rather early in the morning.

Returning with one bag, she says, "Biscuits and honey for the three of you! I even threw in a bit of our apple cider! It's wonderful this time of year. Here you go!" Handing Eldarwen the bag, she continues to speak. "You know, just some advice that I should follow, some details are in plain view, you just need to look hard. It happens to me all the time. I'm usually reading, and all of a sudden I hit a part where it's as though I have no idea what's happening you see? But then I go back, and I read it again, and I find things that I didn't see the first time. Maybe, with all this talk of prophecy and whatnot, you should do the same. Well, best wishes on your trip to Altair you three!"

She finishes, looking from Eldarwen, to Arhaedielle, to Pyres, a broad smile on her face. And with that, she bustles back in to the kitchen. The smell of eggs can be detected, and various spices as well.

Subject: Four becomes three...

Tek has messaged me, and informed me that RL has caught up with him, and limited his time in the Inn. As he is committed to one game, and has been for far longer than this one, and also runs a game, he is unable to make time for this one. Therefore, the chosen four are the chosen four, minus one, now. We'll see how this works out, and I will do my best to accommodate the change.

Also, just to move it from recruitment to the Q&A:

I will be trusting players to make their own rolls. When you post such things in a thread, please post them in the following format:

Attack Roll/Physical Damage/Other Damage/Additional Effects.

For example, my assassin attacks with a flaming dagger as part of a death attack:

28(to hit)/3(physical damage)/24(sneak attack damaage) + 4 (fire damage)/ DC 26 fort save or death.

In regards to the extra damage and additional effects, please state what they are, as some creatures may be immune to effects (undead to sneak attack and crits, just for an example)

Cheers,

Gboy

The angel which stands before you smiles. "Wisely have you chosen adventurers. This journey will not be easy, and Borghen not a simple foe to defeat. The threads of time are being unraveled and re-spun as I am telling you this, but I will see a world better than the one which I have seen. But the one who has departed...we shall se where his thread is spun."

The light surrounding him begins to brighten, so bright that you want think you would go blind looking directly at them for too long. Through this intense light, you hear a few fleeting words. "When you arrive at Altair, the term is Water Lily..."

Suddenly, the light flashes out, and the angel is gone, leaving nothing that showed he existed at all.

Looking out the window, you see a black night sky. A maid, different from the one you saw originally, comes bustling from the kitchen and clambers up the stairs, knocking on four doors. There is much bustling going on, then she returns downstairs. "It must be you three then... but I was told four..? Ah, oh well. Your wakeup call is now... but it seems you're awake. Are you heading out so soon? To Altair?"

Topic: Quests
Subject: Well, a slight modification...

I prefer the find someONE and return them quests. Especially since I usually play the people with the high charisma

But on a realistic scene, I like quests where the characters have a chance to bond and develop large in character relationships. I once had a quest go by, and it was the dream quest that I had, merely because of the character relationships that were uncovered. I was playing a kobold rogue - an orphan - and I ended up getting "adopted" by two of the people in the group. My character now had a family, which he had not been used to, and the relationship between the characters grew and grew. It was probably the best campaign I'd ever had.

As for how long it should take to complete a quest, do you mean in game, or out of game? In game, I think it should take a few weeks, but there's no reason for that to be the total time out of game. However, one quest, if you're playing with a group of people around a table, should take close to 6 hours, unless it's the whole campaign which is one quest with several side quests. Then it should take months.

Does this answer all of the questions in an appropriate matter?

Subject: Well, words have power after all...

Baldorf was glad that he was able to manipulate the crowd so as for the cleric... strange as he was... to move forward and tend to the child's wounds. But Baldorf was still standing in plain view of everyone. He wasn't too fond of the idea, so he promptly decided to sink back into the crowd, and try to get his way through.

But of course, the second he tried to go through the crowd, they noticed many more children missing, and began swarming toward the door. Baldorf let out a small yelp as he was manhandled in the direction of the door, unable to move through the mass of desperate people. He was going to be trampled if somebody didn't do something soon. This can't happen! I'm too young to die! I've lived an unfulfilled life!

As if right on cue, an bellow could be heard over the crowd. They finally stopped, giving Baldorf a chance to escape. He nimbly moved through the crowd, quickly at first, but then he began slowing down as he heard the Khord speak. He was right, everyone here was far too drunk to go down there. It would be a suicide mission. Who knew what danger lie within their? Who knew what glory lied there... maybe if he went, more people would accept him as a Khord. Maybe he would fit in, for once in his life! And who knew? Maybe he would even get to braid his beard! Oh, how he dreamed for that day...

Turning around, and heading back in the direction of Thagovard, Baldorf steps out of the crowd.

"I, uh... I will go with you... I guess, into the mushroom forest. Um, yes! Yes! I will go! Those children need help, so I'm going to go!"

Baldorf couldn't have been shakier if he tried. Nor could he believe what he just did. He had just pledged himself on a dangerous journey to save people he didn't know, to a complete stranger. Oh boy, he thought to himself. What did I just get myself into? Hopefully I did the right thing...

Looking at the... seaweed... that the man was holding, Baldorf was rather skeptical. It was hard to tell if the man was lying about it being seaweed, or if he truly had no clue that it wasn't. Or perhaps it was, but it sure didn't look like it, and Baldorf was clean. Hadn't smoked in his life, and wasn't planning to just to make a drunk miner happy. "Sir, I feel compelled to decline your request. You seem to have found this seaweed yourself and... well..."

Baldorf was saved by the silence which fell over the large crowd, as he recognized it as a sign to be silent. However, he still didn't quite know why. Wait a minute, I think I see someone there... yes! Who is that? Oh right... Baldorf thought to himself. Well, at least he didn't have to deal with this drunkard any more. He snuck away, moving through the crowd as unobtrusively as possible, attempting to get closer to hear ol' Mugtwister's speech. Of course, it was congratulating the couple on their marriage... should have been his marriage... and there was even a funny, if rather cheap joke spoken.

However, this mirth was cut short by a sudden, heavy footfall. Oh great, another thing happening... this day just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it? he thought to himself. Now what's going on? Moving again, this time toward the sound, his beard still blowing, even though he was moving rather slowly, Baldorf approached as close as he could. Of course, all the other Khords were attempting to do the same, so it was making him a little uneasy, but it wasn't too bad. He could blend in with the crowd, so as not to be picked out. Suddenly, a woman called for a healer. Well, nobody in particular seemed to be listening, so Baldorf stepped up, and spoke to the masses, almost seeming like a commander of sorts... if it had not been for the fact that he was nothing like it, and a tone of unease could be slightly detected in his voice.

"Um... people? This woman seems to be requesting the aid of a healer of some sort... so could anyone who doesn't qualify for that kind of move out of the way? It may merely be my perception, but this child seems to be in some serious need of help, so it would be easier for help to come if there were an easier path for the healer's to come through, wouldn't it? You don't want such a joyful celebration to be plagued by such misery, do you?"

---------------------------------------------
I would like a diplomacy check rolled there, if applicable
---------------------------------------------

While speaking, Baldorf scanned the crowd for Befilda, but there were simply too many people to be able to pick her out. Still, it made it look like he was addressing everyone, not just looking for the one person. Hopefully he was doing the right thing, and making a good choice, not a fool of himself.

"Humph." The old man says. "Of course all the difficult questions come out right when I'm ready for bed. Well, this might take a while to explain, and it will probably give you a dozen or so more questions, but here is my explanation."

The man takes a few deep breaths to calm himself. These breaths become deeper and deeper until it is questionable whether or not he is still breathing. And when it is at the point where almost a minute passes between his breaths, he begins to speak again, although this time, something is different. Instead of being calm and serene, as he had been before, you can see the old man slightly shaking as he speaks, trembling maybe.

"You claim to walk this path blind. The fact is: are you blind physically, or mentally? Are you incapable of seeing, or do you choose not to see? The prophecy is unfolding around us. Borghen fulfilled his part, he is the usurper. You four are to eliminate him, and return peace. If you do not, the world will stay shrouded in Borghen's dark heart, and his reign of terror will not end. Ever."

The old man's body begins to shift suddenly. His eyes change to a pure white, his skin paling severely. His height also begins increasing, slowly but surely. His voice also becomes deeper, and has it's own echo now to it. "Your reason is the fact that you four did not meet coincidentally. There was a reason that three of you decided to not be in Fynn, and out on the hill. There was a reason that the fourth met up with you here." The man's shoulder's begin to extrude from his body, and the sound of ripping clothing can be heard. His voice gets deeper still. "Your reason is because without you, the world is doomed. I have seen it. That is why I have intervened, instead of watching you all die painful torturous deaths."

Suddenly, the man's back rips open, and feathery wings protrude from it. Before you, stands an angel, it's goodness easily visible. In a booming echoing voice, seeming to speak in a thousand tones at once, he asks. "The fact is, there is no reasoning to these events. Do you see now?" His ominous presence, while stunning, is rather intimidating. He now stand over 9 feet tall.

Subject: I figure I should be in the wedding, in case some extraordinary event should happen that puts us on

Baldorf heaved a sigh, causing his unbraided beard to ruffle even more. His solitude out here was nice, but the music he could hear somehow cause him a twinge of guilt. Befilda... she had invited him here personally, to her special day, even after he had half scared the wits out of her every time he showed up. He felt morally obligated to at least attend the party...and try to enjoy it as much he could. "Figures I get tossed into a thing like this...I don't even know what to do. I don't like the ale, I'm not hungry, I can hardly dance... though I'm probably better than most down there." He noted with a grin.

Baldorf mused about what made him different. He didn't have any heroic deeds which would give him a braid, he didn't enjoy ale too much - he preferred wines- he didn't even carry the normal Khord accent because of his interest in foreign languages. He just lost it over time... he never really noticed it. "Well, might as well put some pointy ears on me, walk on stilts and call me Sylvari..." He chuckled to himself. Well, at least now he was in a good mood. He whistled softly as he began the walk back to the wedding.

...
...

Arriving at the wedding, Baldorf made his way to the bar. Might as well look like he was enjoying himself. He waved for a drink, figures it'll be ale, and he turned to look at Befilda. He still knew why he had been in love with her. "Ah well, she's taken and that's that." He muttered to himself. "No use crying over spilt wine." Turning back to the bar, Baldorf took his mug, and took one long swig.

Yuck He though to himself, how can they drink this stuff? And like it?

The old man turns to you, a look of shock on his face. "Did you not just hear me talking to them about you? You are one of the chosen, to fulfill the prophecy. Along with the rest of them." Giving an exasperated sigh, he continues. "But, you must have been lost in conversation with the waitress. I'll explain again. Briefly."

Clearing his throat, the old man says, "You four are chosen by the prophecy. You must go to Altair early in the morning, that's why the innkeeper is waking you up early. You must train, to defeat the evil which is Borghen. Thus, saving the world. It won't be easy, but you must. Your names have been spoken in the past; Eldarwen, Tek, Pyres, Arhaedielle... you will save the world."

Panting, he regains his composure. "Okay...any more questions?"

"Well miss, I'm only asking because an elven person named Eldarwen is supposed to be leaving with that group of three people over there. Don't ask me how someone could have booked this, but it says on our reservations that's how it's supposed to be. I think that man was talking about you too. I think it'd be best to talk with those four over there, especially the old man, and find out what's going on." The woman gives a furtive glance over towards the group of three with the old man, then looks back at Eldarwen. "May be good for something. Saving the world... seems like you've got a pretty big job miss! Good luck!"

The serving girl gives a curtsy, and leaves Eldarwen to her meal, shuffling her way back into the kitchen.

"Foolish boy." The old man says. "You would have succeeded in saving them the trouble of having to find you, that is all. They will most certainly find you, but hopefully after all of you have had the chance to advance your abilities." He shakes his head, and coughs a few times. "You don't seem to understand what your arrogance is risking right now young one. Four people in all of the land can save this world. The four of them are in this room right now. If any of you perish, the likelihood of the world being saved is severely dropped. The four of you... yes, I am also addressing you sitting at the table there... must get to Altair. And before Borghen's soldiers get here."

The old man looks around, looking each of you up and down. He sighs heavily. "The fate of the world you four. Don't forget that." Giving another sigh, more a wheeze, he walks over and briefly discusses with the innkeeper, and then proceeds to the staircase. At the base of the staircase, he turns to you. "Any last questions? I'm rather fatigued myself."

Baldorf happens to wish he had a wife, and why not add that in? It seems like every male Khords dream to have a pretty lass. Why not? Good little addition I think.

Baldorf sure didn't know. He had a bit of ale, but he didn't much fancy the stuff. He only had it when a group of Khords came up and was drunk enough to pick up the random Khord there and have a drink with him. And that seemed to happen rarely. Baldorf sighed, stroking his hand through his beard. It did not have a single braid in it. He looked around and saw so many braids on so many faces. Not one. Turning away, he decided that the noise was too much for him. He just needed to be alone.

On his way away from the festivities, he felt a twinge of guilt. Befilda had invited him to this event. She knew that he had had an attraction to her, ever since he was a kid. But only fools can live in those illusions forever. Still, he may have owed it to her to be there...

"Nah, she wouldn't notice the fact I'm gone..." Baldorf said to himself. His hair seemed to ruffle in agreement, as though as strong breeze was blowing through... it wasn't. Baldorf continued walking, stroking his blowing, braidless beard. He would return in due time. He just needed a bit of time to think.

What about the inborn spells of the half air elemental? I don't believe that the components are uncommon, however I have not searched all of them, nor do I know how high this is willing to go. Will Baldorf need material componenets ever, or is it just cast from his essence?
