"Do you think the sword is magic or something? I am not gonna use a magic sword!" Billy said as the great sword clattered to the stone.

"No, Billy, keep the sword.” Alea said, “I would say it was magical and in a way that it turned certain defeat into a rousing victory. We are going to need everything we have and find, to take a near impossible mission and make it into a success."

"I would say the gods had something to do with, and I would not throw away such a "gift"."

“Aye Lad,” Thor said as he heaved a sigh and stood regaining his breath after the battle, “Anything that gives ya such prowess in combat as I just witnessed cant be evil, and we need all the help we can get just now.”

Thon walked among the fallen Shelnak with his large knife in hand, he was making using the blade to reclaim Alea’s arrows and finish off any Shelnak who were still moving.

“Aye, listen to your friends,” Thon said and then said with a grin, “and if ya decide not to keep the blade, can I have it?”

Thor frowned and glared at the other dwarf and then he chuckled, “Seeing ya tryin to wield that Giant blade would be a sight.”

For the moment, the chamber was quiet as the party gathered itself and it’s things together. They had come through that battle relatively unscathed, but they knew it was not over with yet.

“That is the way we must go,” Thon pointed to the passage he had come running out of with the group of Shelnak in pursuit, “It leads further into the bowels of this forsaken place.”

Subject: Battle rages

Billy and the two dwarfs, Thor and Thon, were wrecking havoc among the disorganized Shelnak. Thon and Thor took down one each and continued to wade into the Shelnak striking left and right.

Alea’s bow sang again and again, each time her arrows found a target and at least one enemy went down never to rise again. She had to be careful though, on a couple of occasions she had to hold off shooting because Billy’s large bulk had suddenly leaped in front of her aim. She did not know this man before, but she had seen him in battle since they had embarked on this journey. What she saw now was strange and a little scary to her; Billy seemed a demon possessed as he waded into the Shelnak wielding his Giant Sword blood flying from it’s blade.

Billy was lost in a total battle rage, his huge sword cut swaths through the Shelnak, he cut down at least three more and stepped over their bodies to get at the others. A strange battle cry leaped from his lips; words in a language he didn’t even recognize.

What was happening here? The thought sprang to Billy’s mind. He was totally lost in this battle, an all consuming rage filled him and gave him a strength which seemed beyond his already massive muscles. For the moment he didn’t care, the enemies were falling like wheat before a scythe; he would kill them all before the day was done. He was unstoppable!

Suddenly the remaining Shelnak, who were not use to being so overwhelmed by so few a number, broke and ran in all directions. A couple more went down with strikes to their backs but a handful ran off down different passages fleeing for their lives.

Billy has the nearly overwhelming urge to chase down the Shelnak's and slay them all. (He made his roll to resist) He takes a couple of steps and then Thor and Thon's yelling at him to stop pull him up short and the fiery rage within him slowly starts to cool. As it does, Billy begins to wonder what has come over him; he had always loved battles but this was a strong bloodlust which was almost all consuming.

(Another post next week. I am not going to try and replace Dragonmist since this adventure is drawing to a close... one way or another! )

Subject: Rage!

Billy charged at the Shelnaks as they emerged from the passage into the cavern and tried to form up into their fighting formation. He arrived and crashed into them swinging his great sword before they could complete their task. One Shelnak, the one trying to stand at the apex of the wedge, lost it’s head in a vicious swipe and this threw the wedge into instance chaos.

Billy felt something there, as the blade bit into the soft flesh of the Shelnak, he felt elation and joy and he realized that it wasn’t his emotions. Something else was flowing through him as he swung again with a speed he had not known he possessed. Another head rolled from another Shelnak that tried to take the other’s spot at the head and the others fell back before the terrible onslaught of this towering warrior. Billy felt more elation as the dark blood spurted from the stump of the Shelnak’s neck. The emotions poured over him, overwhelming him, driving him to slay ever last one of these vile creatures.

Thor yelled and charge shortly behind Billy, he attacked the side of the group trying to stay out of the reach of the giant’s greatsword. His axe bit deep into one opponent and he yelled his battle cry as he saw the ones on that side abandon any attempt to form up and draw short iron daggers to fend him off. A few of those manage to strike him but his armor held up and he suffered no damage though is armor got hotter where ever the creatures struck.

Alea yelled at Billy to stop but he and Thor were enthralled by the thrill of battle. She said a quick prayer to Corellon casting a blessing upon her group as she drew out her bow and tried to spot an easy target. She manage to get off one shot after casting the spell, and one of the Shelnak’s fell back with an arrow protruding from it’s chest. It seemed these creatures were weaker physically without their vaunted magic arts to protect them.

Thon, seeing the decision is to fight, cries out his battle cry, filled with the rage of his fallen comrades, he attacked the side opposite Thor and to the right of Billy staying well clear of the giant’s swing; good thing he is short. His attack on the side sends them into further turmoil and another Shelnak goes down beneath a dwarven axe.

(Ok, another post next week.. I delayed hoping on a post from Dragonmist but it seems he has disappeared. RL probably caught up to him as it usually does all of us at one time or another. )

Jail, Beylix, Newhouse

“The other man gives a short laugh and rolls over his back, “Sheriff must have got ya then. If it was Pearson, you’d be dead.”

Andrew only smiled at the other prisoner’s word; why did most people assume that just because he was older than most gun toting men out here on the fringes that he was slow unable to take care of him self. He didn’t say anything, as he had learned it was always better to be thought innocent and lull people in a false sense of security about his abilities. He would be the first to admit that his skills were diminished compared to his earlier years when he was much younger but he was still more capable than most; his advanced years testimony to the speed of his gun hands that had thus far kept him alive. He knew that he probably wouldn’t be the equal of a young fast gunslinger whose only profession was killing, but then he didn’t go around antagonizing people for just those reasons.

Weaver spoke up, “Don’t be putting yourself into a noose yet, Mr. Bowman. Sheriff will get to the bottom of this. You’ll see.”

“I would think that after the statements of the witness were heard,” Andrew said, “that things would be clear that I had little choice in the regrettable matter.”

The sheriff looks over at Andrew in the cell. “I will have you know, “He says loudly, “that I spoke with your witnesses and they seem to collaborate your story. Well, most of them do. The fact remains that the man did indeed have a gun and if you hadn’t shot him, he’d most likely be alive and with a sore foot.”

“So what about me,” Andrew asked, “am I free to go now?”

“Now we have to wait for the Governing council to open up so that we can have a judge assigned to your case. Then you may have your trial and evidence will be presented.”

“When exactly do you expect that will happen?”

“Well now, there is the difficulty. The council is…on vacation.”

“Vacation? How long?”

“Ah. Well. There you have hit the hammer on the nail. You see … We don’t know. The council didn’t rightly tell anyone how long they’d be.”

“Or where they went off to either.” Deputy adds while rubbing his report with an oversize eraser. He blows all the rubber bit off the page, “Been away almost a month now haven’t they Sheriff?”

“No. More like three weeks. But they will be back soon. Then we’ll get you that trial and hopefully your witnesses will still be around to speak on your behalf.” the sheriff says with the conviction of a man making the best of a bad situation. "Tea? coffee?"

Andrew was so stunned that he didn’t say anything at first and ignored the offer of a drink.

“Are you saying, “Andrew asked, “that I could be sitting here for weeks even though it is clearly apparent that it was all in self defense?” He sat down hard on the bed and shook his head, silently wondering now if he should had just blasted the Sheriff and his deputy and took his chances. But he had been trying to turn over a new leaf, gads how he hated such clichés, but it was the truth. It wasn’t that he abhorred killing; he was getting on and knew that if he continued the way he had been going he would probably end of dead. Something he desperately wished to avoid till his much, much later years.

“This is unbelievable,” he said more to himself than to any response from the Sheriff. He shook his head and stood up and then walked to the bars looking at the Sheriff.

“I think I will have some coffee if you please,” he said, “don’t suppose you have anything stronger? I could use it.”

Seeing no other reasonable choice; Andrew sat back and waited for the very slow wheels of justice to run their course. He hoped that he didn’t get crushed underneath those wheels.

Movie was very good.. and yes moments were chessy but hey... so was the Original ST... come on.. you have to admit that is so.

I liked it and right from the beginning they set it up so people cant really complain about anything that happens that might be out of the norm for the timeline...

Overall I see more movies in this new series.. if they can keep the same main actors it would be worth it.

NO SPOILERS? I didnt agree to that Grugg... well if you dont want spoilers dont read any further... go... eat something.. I think I seen your food bowl somewhere around here...

But if you continue to read then you will find this spoiler interesting....

Doesnt it just blow your mind how they revealed that Kirk is actually Jean-Luc Picard's Grandfather?

Emmett’s Bar, Beylix, Newhouse – 12:20 pm

“Okay Mr. Bowman. I hear you was here looking for work? So I tell you what I’ll do. You take your bag there and carry it in a fashion where I can see you hands, then we stroll over to the station like we were all acquainted. If I cuff you and make you walk through town all bound up and the like, even if you are declared innocent, no one gonna remember anything but the cuffs.”

“No problem Deputy,” Andrew replied with a nod as he was disarmed and his bag examined (It contains the items he doesn’t wear but that are listed in his inventory but no other weapons).

“Sounds like a reasonable request to me. I have no wish to cause a stir in your town,” he glanced down at the dead body leaking blood on the floor, “well no more than I have already.”

Jail, Beylix, Newhouse – 12:30 pm

He followed the Deputy’s instructions and they proceeded to the Jail where he handed over his bag and signed for his belongings. He paused before stepping into the open jail cell; he hoped he was making a mistake with letting himself be locked up. Once inside it would be harder to get out once the door was locked. With a sigh he stepped across the threshold; he was trying to be a little less troublesome in his old age, thus far he was not as successful as he would have liked.

As the cell door was locked he glanced over at the other cell and checked out the only other prisoner. Judging by the man’s size he was strong; he thought that he wouldn’t like to meet the man who was able to bust up this giant of a man.

“Yes Deputy,” Andrew replied, “I would like some coffee, Black please. Thank you!”

Taking his coffee, he sat on the bed as it squeaked and shook his head slightly, not the way he was hoping to start out here. He had only been looking for work on another ship; work off passage or even a more permanent position; it was going to be harder to accomplish in here.

“So.” The prisoner in the other cell speaks without getting up. His voice is gravelly, like dry leaves crumbled between your fingers. “What you in for?”

Andrew turned his eyes to gaze at the other prisoner who spoke, he took a long pause before answering the man.

“Murder!”

He sat drinking his coffee, leaning back against the wall behind his bed, hoping that what counted as Justice in this little berg would get him out of this fix; if not he might have to come up with a plan. It wouldn’t be the first Jail he had broken out of in his life, but then breaks were always risky for everyone involved.

(Woof away if you must. Andrew wont be doing much but waiting on the 'slow' wheels of justice.)

Location: Under the Grey Mountains

Billy scratched his head, trying hard to think. "She is gone and we don't know where she went or if she is alive. We do know that there is a battle we must fight. If we skip teh battle looking for her and find her it will be too late for her to do anything. If we fight and don't find her we may not be able to go on. But if we fight we have a chance of finding her and finishing our task. So I say we go and fight."

"We will find her with Corellon's help, I will pray for that."

She turns to the Dwarves, "Your prayers will also be of help."

Alea looks down the way they must go.

"Down and Forward."

Thor simply grunted and nodded agreeing with the others that they had to press on, honor demanded it.

Thon nodded as well and gestured them to follow him to the passage that lead downward and hopefully towards their goal.

They moved stealthily down the passage hoping they wouldn’t run into any more Shelnaks as they seemed the worse of the opponents they had faced thus far. They moved on for hours, moving through several diverging corridors, following Thon’s instinct and knowledge of these old caverns in the hope that he could lead them to their objective. During the trek, he told them quietly of the old passages and how this all once belonged to the dwarves, before the arrival of the Dark One’s minions. He had a good idea where the enemy would set up a base of operations here in the deep ground based on his own thoughts on the matter.

They entered a cavern with a couple of passage exiting it; Thon looked about and thought this might be a good place to rest for an hour while he checked out the passages. He knew it was one of these passages but he wasn’t sure exactly which one at the moment. It had been many years since he had been down this deep and he didn’t want to lead them astray. So, the group rested as Thon and his last warrior went to each of the other passages, venturing down each one in turn to determine their destination.

The group sat for almost an hour, time to rest and eat a bit, when they heard the sounds of battle down one of the passages; they realized it was the one Thon and his fellow dwarf had went down last. Suddenly Thon appeared running, he was slightly out of breath and showed signs of battle, fresh blood covered the front of his jerkin; he was alone.

“Hurray….” He gasped as he ran up to them, “A large group of Shelnaks are… right behind me.”

As they started to move, about 20 Shelnaks entered the cavern, they howled at seeing the party and ran towards them. They were not yet standing tall, nor were they forming into their characteristic fighting wedge.

“We could flee,” Thon said as he readied his axe, “but I think the way we need to go is that way.” He gestured to the passage the Shelnaks had exited. I asked about his comrade that had gone with him, he bowed his head slightly and said sadly, “He fell!”

(Thon will wait to see if the party will flee or fight, he will abide by any decision. The party can not run around the attackers without encountering and fighting them. I have not posted for Riddle because he is separate from the group and well… you wont know his fate for now. Siliwen has been PMed her post. I will update again next Monday. If you decide on combat, please be specific in your attempted actions and give me alternatives in case your first one becomes impossible. Any questions, PM me or use the Q&A thread. Thanks!)

Emmett’s Bar, Beylix, Newhouse – 12:15 am

“Really now? You know, I would have to say that you are going about it in the wrong way. In fact, shooting a man who has no gun in his hand, is most likely the exact opposite of looking for work – unless you are an assassin. You aren’t an assassin are you? No matter, I’m sure that you wouldn’t tell me if you were – secret code of the not so very stealthy assassin and all that.”

Andrew opened his mouth to respond when he was interrupted.

“He got a gun in his pocket, Sheriff.” Bobbie adds helpfully.

“He? To which ‘He’ are you referring?”

“Umm… The dead guy.”

“Ahh. Well, I guess that didn’t help him did it? Ahich is why I carry mine in a holster. In your pocket and you are likely to shoot the family jewels. Did you go through his pockets before he hit the ground or before?”

“I didn’t Sheriff. You can see the bulge…”

“That’s as far into that conversation as I wish to go. Fine. You, you and you,” He says waving his Colt at the three workers nonchalantly, “You stay here and I will take statements. You,” He points to Andrew while playing with clicking the hammer back and forth, “Will go with Deputy Weaver here, who will take you over to the jail. Now I do not like trouble. That is why the people in this town gave me the badge, I simply detest trouble and have little tolerance for it. Go nicely, and I will take it as a kindness for future considerations. Give me trouble and I will end you. See what I mean – simple. Any questions?”

Andrew smiled slightly as the Sheriff gestured around and threatened him he if didn't go along with the Deputy. He knew that if he wanted to escape this situation, he was fast enough to draw and kill the Sheriff and his Deputy probably before either of them got a shot off, even though they both had their guns out already. But why risk it when he didn't have anything to worry about since he has at least one local who was willing to talk about what happened.

"Of course I will cooperate Sheriff," Andrew replied, "But as this gentlemen can testify," he gestured to Bobbie, "we both heard a hammer cocking as this man had his hand in his pocket and then tried to pull out his gun. Who was his target is unknown."

Keeping his hands in plain sight he turned slowly and took a single step over to the table and picked up his bag which he had laid next to the table.

"If you don't mind," he said as he moved slowly, "I will grab my things." He also grabbed his winnings on the table, leaving what he still had in the 'pot' and slide his money into a side pocket of his bag.

"Divide the pot amongst the three of you, Gentlemen," Andrew said as he turned to the Deputy who was to escort him, "I regret the disturbance, our game was just getting interesting."

He nodded to them all and then left the bar, following the Deputy's lead on where he should go. He would follow the Deputy's instructions all the way to the Jail. Once there if he was to be disarmed, which he figured that he would be since he seemed to be under arrest or at least was being detained for an investigation, he would comply and give up his belongings, as well as his guns, unloading each as he turned them over.

If he was shown into a cell, he would make himself as comfortable as possible, reclining on the bed as he waited for questioning or whatever passed for justice on this backwater planet.
