USS Charon – Talon’s Quarters, Deck Two – 06:05 hours

“Place your request, Mr. Talon,” Kel gave him a nod. “But I cannot have you confined to quarters at this time. We’re understaffed as it is. You are to return to duty as an acting lieutenant. I still plan on asking Captain MacTavish to spare Commander Rrowl for duty aboard the Charon, and I’ll expect you to work with him in that capacity.

Talon was ready to protest again, perhaps the Captain could see it on his face. He was ordering him to work for that Kzinti and take orders from him. The demotion and charges he could perhaps overcome with a fair hearing of the circumstances; though while unlikely he had to try. This entire thing was a black mark on his record, one he couldn’t stand; he didn’t expect justice from these officers involved and thought that perhaps he might have to request a change of court since he knew that most of the tribunal would be prejudiced against him in this case. This would have to wait till he filed his formal request at DS9.

This whole thing with the Kzinti would be unbearable and was the supreme example of ‘cruel and unusual’ punishment in his eyes. He was about to protest when the Captain continued:

“In case you haven’t noticed, we all have to swallow hatreds and work with those we’d thought of as enemies these days. I’ll expect no less from you—as a matter-of-fact, I expect more. We are still determining what happened to the Cerberus, and your skills will be helpful in this investigation. Understood?”

Talon’s mouth, open to protest, snapped shut at the Captain’s words. Looking at his superior officer he could see that the working with the Romulans was having it’s toll on the man. It couldn’t be easy to work alongside of those that were responsible for the death of your family. He realized that the Captain was right; he was strong enough to put up with this disgrace. If he was to refuse to follow the Captain’s order at this time, he could kiss goodbye any chance at clearing the insubordination charges from his record.

“I understand sir,” Talon said, “I will log my request later and I will report to Lt. Cmdr Rrowl as ordered. I will follow his instructions sir. I only hope this lowly Lt. can be of assistance.” Gavison could no doubt hear the Lyran’s barely constrained anger at having his side of the incident apparently cast aside without due hearing.

“I assume someone will replace me as Chief of Tactical and Security,’ he said questioningly, “once Lt Cmdr Rrowl has been reassigned and do I get my commbadge and weapon returned to me for duty?”

Lt. Talon stood at attention waiting for any final orders from the Captain; once he left than Talon would return to his cabinet and opening a drawer he removed a small flat container. Carrying it over to the mirror above the sink he opened it and set it on the counter. Reaching up he removed the Lt. Cmdr pip and set it in the container, leaving only the two pips designating a Lt. Snapping the container closed he looked up at himself in the mirror and a low growl began in his throat; it grew louder till Talon roared and then lashed out with his left hand and smashed the mirror into a hundred fragments which fell all over the counter. He looked down at his bleeding paw like hand and grunted, he turned on the water and washed his hands some then wrapped his left hand in a towel and then turned to leave his compartment.

He would stop by Medical to have his injuries tended to and then he would immediately seek out Lt. Cmdr Rrowl. Once he found him, probably through the use of the computer, he would walk up to the Kzinti officer standing at stiff attention he would salute him.

Lt Talon reporting for duty Sir!” He said stiffly.

Subject: Vatta

Vatta buys what arrows she can at the market before hitting the road. She is disappointed in not being able to completely stock up since she has been using a lot of arrows lately but she understands why the town is so short.

She rides more towards the rear of the group as they leave Asbenford, she constantly checks the area behind them and to the flanks using her keen vision to watch for trouble.

Lorae draws rein at the side road going north into the foothills with a weathered sign post with Paldan's Helm carved into the surface. Some of the letters still have some paint in them.

"We could stop at the village for tonight, they have a small tavern where we could bed down for the night. It is about 8 miles up the road. It could be that we can find more arrows there, as their main occupation is hunting."

“That sounds good,” she mumbles slightly, thinking she can use another good nights rest in a real bed since they don’t know when they might get the chance again. Besides she still wants to buy about another 20 arrows for her saddle quiver. Vatta is far from dumb and realizes that her strength is in attacking from a distance or even from concealment. She lets the fighters in the group do what they do best, act as meat shields to keep their opponents at a distance where she can wreck havoc upon them with her deadly accuracy.

She follows the others on to Paldan’s Helm hoping for a good meal, some good wine and a good nights rest.

Me, on the other hand. I know a lot about guns. Those two things don't work in unison in today's world. They have to go in the same slot on the gun, and cannot be 'stacked'.

Being a gun enthusist and user myself I can confirm your statement. Another thing is that Silencers (or Suppressors since you cant really silence any gun completely) dont really work on high powered rifles (i.e. most long range sniper rifles) because the bullets are usually supersonic in speed and therefore make their own little sonic boom when they travel. Hence in most accurate movies (very few of those) you usually hear the shot. Besides if you are firing from a 1000m away you dont usually have to worry about the noise since your target will be dead before the sound gets there.

Vatta looked up at the two warrior women who walked up and asked her to accompany them on their journey. She dropped her head for a moment considering, then looked back up at them.

“I don’t know how much help I can be,” Vatta said softly but she shrugged and got up from her chair as she continued, “but you seem to be going in my direction so I will accompany you to Suzail.” As she finished a sly little smile graced her lips, it was as if what she said was a little joke, or was it.

She grabbed her bow from where it lay against the table and slung it on her back and turned towards the door.

“My other things are already packed on my horse,” she said, “We can pick up our supplies and then head off as soon as possible.”

(She will go with the group to the market and pick up the required water and foodstuffs to get them to Suzail and a bit extra. She will also try to find a place to get some more arrows as the battle diminished her supply. If possible she will get at least 40 arrows, 20 for her person and 20 more for the quiver on her mount.)

"Thank you for that information, it is as good a destination as any for our search." Brianna pipes up. "Let us gather supplies for three weeks to a month of travel and be on our way."

Vatta heard Brianna’s words as the others in the party stood up from their table across the room. She raised an eyebrow at what she heard and wondered about where they were bound. Apparently they were continuing on with some quest, but Vatta had not been party to the conversation, not from where she sat at the bar nursing her second drink of the evening.

She wondered since she wasn’t included in the discussion about their future plans, then maybe she was expected to go with them. In her current mood she shrugged and turned back to the bar. If they needed a thief/killer then someone would approach her and seek her help, if they didn’t then she was ok with that too. She could always find work, and since her encounter with the Priest earlier she had been a bit forlorned.

I have posted... these sections are conditional of course, if at any time he runs out of time just cut it off there.

If I need to edit something because you see something I did wrong, or if something is unclear, let me know.

Now to go and make another sacrifice to the combat roll gods..

Wilderness – Northeast of Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 10:21pm

The battle took less time than the telling; MDK let out a shuttering breath to still some of the adrenaline coursing through his body. When he had stood up and took the burst of SMG fire it had hurt but it had only fueled that killing fire within him. He had wanted blood and he had got it, but he wasn’t through yet.

Scanning the fallen quickly he saw that they were either dead or dying and at least out of the fight. But the black assassin never took chances. He quickly walked over to the one that was down and not moving, scooped up his H&K MPK-11 in his left hand, made sure a round was chambered and then put a three round burst in the dead man’s head. He turned to quickly walk around the small area where the squirming Biotechnia soldiers lay and would do the same to each of them.

(Assuming he is allowed)

He felt no remorse as he pointed the gun down at the head of what was Pvt Maxwell and pulled the trigger, making a widow and orphans of the man’s wife and two children. Of course he didn’t know anything about them, but even if he did, it wouldn’t have caused him to hesitate one nanosecond before ending the man’s existence. The man, like the others, were Megacorps and they all deserved to die for choosing to work for the wrong side.

As he walked around executing them he spoke to Peacekeeper who seemed a bit stunned by the rapidity of the encounter, “The Corporal of this patrol might have a subdural comm implant. I thought I heard it when he reported in. Check them quickly, take what guns you want. We have to move. He called them in as Bravo Team Two, so there are more out there and probably headed this way.”

(If all goes according to plan, continue)

Once the wet work is done, MDK will snatch up another H&K and head off into the woods towards the direction they were headed when the dirty encounter happened. Once they were about 100 yards he will crouch down and signal her to join him.

“You alright?” He asked her, “were you hit?”

Location: The Grey Mountains - Dwarven Hideout
Date/Time: Day Eight - Early Morning

Make yourselves at home,” the leader says, “You look like you need rest. It will be safe here. I suggest you get some sleep, the night was not kind to you and you will need your strength for the coming battle.”

"Thank you," Alea takes her horse over the the makeshift stalls, untacks hime except for his halter, which she has been leaving on under the bridle. When her horse in untacked and groomed she goes back to the Dwarf who seemed in command.

"If any need healing I have some powers of healing still available and when that is gone I have bandages and salves."

The elder dwarf smiled at her as unlimbered a pack and laid his weapons aside, “Thank you lass! But I think we are all good right now. The last encounter we had with the Dark One’s forces went well and we had only minor injuries which have already been tended. I cant say the same for them though.” He laughed loudly and other dwarves nearby laughed as well as his jest.

Once in the tunnel cavern with her horse tended to, Siliwen asks, "What are the Kree," We know them not.”

The leader turns to her and his smile fades as he pauses to answer her question, “The Kree are one of the Dark One’s minions from whatever hell he crawled out of. They are beasts who know rock and stone almost as much as we Dwarves. They are large beasts which walk like a man, bulging muscles from moving stone, and four arms which make them a powerful opponent. They do not use weapons, other than crude clubs and stones, but they are semi intelligent and attack relentlessly any who they find. Beware them Lass, if ye can.”

Once he is done Thor will walk over to the Grey Dwarf leader to speak with him. “We are grateful for your hospitality and your quick discernment of the situation in the field. You are correct our party is on the weary side for we have been pursued by this dark ones forces ever since we have arrived. Alacran has been a great source of information as well as strength for our party, and yet even with his help we seem to find trouble at every turn. Since you say we are safe here we will all take the opportunity to get rested up and our strength returned.”

“One question however if I may, who or what are the Kree for they have not been mentioned to us at least not that I can recall, and you speak of a coming battle do you speak in general terms of our fight against this dark one or do you know of an actual battle that is approaching us now?”

“Easy there my brother,” The grey leader says with a smile, “.. I call you brother for though you are not of our kin, you are still our brother and we can use all the brothers we can since our race here among the grey mountains is near extinction.”

“I have already explained to the lass there about the Kree,” he said his smile turning into a grin, “perhaps you didn’t hear in all your ramblings.” He laughed slightly but then cut it off.

“Take no offense at my jest brother,” he explained, “it is kindly meant. Now, I have dealt with Alacran before and though we do not work for him we are fighting for the same cause, to exterminate the Dark One’s presence here. We both have different means of doing this and I suspect you are his latest attempt. So be it. We will aid you as we would any who seek to destroy the Dark One and his evil minions. We will fight with you and even die with you, if that is what it takes to rid this world of them.”

“As to the coming battle,” his smile had faded by the time he continues, “I speak of the great battle that is going to happen soon, for the Dark One’s army is massing just southeast of the peaks in the lower plane. It is remarkable that you we not detected by any outlying patrols.”

“The final battle will soon be waged,” he said all seriousness now, “and we must fight till the last man if we are to have any hope to survive. Is that why you have come? To aid us in this fight?”

Billy listened half heartedly to the banter. There were those in the group better at formalities and conversation than he was; in fact the only group member who might be worse at it was their strange companion. When the group set out following the dwarves he saw no reason to object. Soon the conversation turned to battle looming on the horizon and his interest peaked.

"Well now; a battle against the dark one's agent suits me just fine. Of course this time I plan cause more hurting and less receiving. Wake me when it is time." With that, Billy laid out his bedroll and tried to get some much needed rest.

The leader turned to look at the hulking warrior and smiled again, “You’ll do fine lad! I like your spirit.”

As the rest of the group begins to make preparations to sleep Riddle walks to were the entrence closed and rests his back against it and watches the group. He then pulls out his dagger and begins cleaning the dirt from under his nails and quickly loosing himself in contemplation, every once in awhile looking up as one of his companions stir in their sleep.

Siliwen is tried but before she can rest she takes out her spells and studies them for a bit. When she is done she looks around for a place to sleep She is leery of sleeping on the floor in contact with the ground. She has her makeshift hammock and tries to see where she can tie it up so she can sleep off the floor. IF she can find someplace to tie the ends of ner hammock she does if not she makes a bed on the saddles.

One of the other dwarves walking past Sil as she stands looking for a place to hang her hammock stops and smiles at her, “You not need that lass, if you don’t want to sleep on the cold ground there be no reason.” He pointed to the far side of the room where most of the dwarves were camping out. “There be plenty of spare cots there, I have one of the boys bring one over for ya.” He walked off and soon a younger looking dwarf walked over and set one of the wooden frames and leather cots down next to her. He didn’t say anything to her he only smiled, looking a bit embarrassed, and then turned and headed back to the others.

Silwen is careful not to disturbed the other that are sleeping. However not all of them all Riddle is propped up against the wall wide awake. She turns to meet his eyes and gives him a smile and a nod in thanks for his watchfulness.

Whilst Riddle is watching every one he notes siliwens smile and thankful nod. He gives his most reasuring smile and nods back. "gods but i have come to enjoy her company" he quietly mumbles to himself

Riddle's warm smile in response to her thank you and smile made her feel good. They had gone though so much together in such a short time. All of them had. IT had bound them together. They had come to trust each other. andit ws not only because Alacran said they had to but because they had been their for each other in all the most difficult times. She could not think that friendships of such an recent nature could have been made so strongly in such a short time.

She turns and offer s smile to their dark silent companion as well It is with Riddle's smile in her mind that she curls herself up on the saddles and sleeps deeply hopefully throughout the night without problems--to sleep perhaps to dream for something good. Just a simple dream that is all she wanted.

Her eyes were heavy with the need for sleep and shortly after lying down, sleep came stealing in on soft wings and stole her consciousness and the problems of the reality they were in at least for a time--ah blissful sleep.

Siliwen noticed her dark protector lurking not far away, he was easy to miss here in the dim light of the cavern which was lit only by some torches the dwarves had lit about the room. He stood there just near the wall, the furthest she had ever seen him from her since he had arrived. Maybe he sensed that she would be in no danger here with so many other around her. Yet he still seemed close enough that he could reach her in seconds if the need did arise.

The dwarves paid Riddle little attention, he did catch furtive glances his way from some of the younger dwarves who only chuckled and went back to whatever they were doing. It seemed like they might be playing a game or something, but none of them seemed to be readying themselves to sleep. But then again, it was during the day but you couldn’t tell that from inside here. Obviously they were not tired, having probably slept well during the previous night when they were running around trying to find a safe place to camp.

Riddle sat there with his back to the wall, and after the rest of the party drifted off to sleep he found himself succumbing to his own fatigue. Several times he fought to keep his eyes open, but before he knew it he was fast asleep despite whatever he tried to remain awake.

Location: The Grey Mountains - Dwarven Hideout
Date/Time: Day Eight - Night

The party sleep well and Riddle managed to be the first to fight himself awake, being a bit upset at himself that he had abandoned his watch over the others. He looked around as if expecting something to be wrong, but he found most was the way he had left it. The remaining members of his party were asleep, and even some of the dwarves were now sleeping it seemed. He didn’t know how late it was but he thought maybe many hours had passed. Riddle finds that he had been moved slightly from where he had been sitting when he fell asleep. He can only guess that they had moved him so the entrance could be opened. Looking around and doing a quick count he finds that about 4 of the dwarves are unaccounted for.

About 5 minutes later the rest of the party begin to awaken on their own all feeling much better after the exhausting journey they had endured thus far. As they rise, they encounter a wonderful smell of meat cooking and can see a fire going over by the dwaves, they can see the smoke rising and disappearing up through the ceiling through some hidden portal no doubt.

(OOC: Hmmm.. I notice how DM and Brianna both posted for Siliwen.. hmmmm? I’m still not convinced! :: )

USS Charon – Talon’s Quarters, Deck Two – 06:02 hours

“You’ll remain confined to your quarters, Mr. Talon. There’s no need for you to confine yourself to the brig.” Kelsey said softly. “I’ll put your request for a tribunal through to Sisko within the hour.

“You do realize that the possible delays a tribunal might cause could remove you from this mission? There are records of some tribunals lasting months, even in the thick of war, and the highest-ranking Starfleet officers in this sector are myself, Sisko, and Captain MacTavish whose sick crewman you practically accused of treason by action if not words.”

“The results of a tribunal could mean imprisonment, expulsion from Starfleet, or a transfer from the Charon, Mr. Talon. In the end, my punishments might seem to you to be lenient by comparison, but by then there will be nothing I can do for you. Aboard my ship, Mr. Talon, I can still afford you the benefit of our experiences together, the history we have shared, but behind the desk of a tribunal board I would be forced to act solely as a Starfleet officer reviewing the facts of an act of perceived insubordination and disrespect for a fellow officer. You could not only be facing the charges laid against you by Mr. Fletcher, but Mr. Kato will likely be required to report your less than diplomatic response to his reminder.”

Kelsey stepped back into the room, allowing the door to close behind him and the shadows to engulf his scarred face once more. “I’m not telling you this, Talon, to dissuade you from doing that which you feel is right for you. I’m telling you this so that you can weigh the consequences fully. Within my jurisdiction you will suffer a demotion, and a couple of days of subordinate interaction with a Kzinti—a Kzinti who has more than a few successes within this society—while a tribunal could strip you of all rank, imprison you, or according to the laws of Starfleet at war, even end your life. You are not a stupid man, Talon, and I’d never question your bravery, but right now I’m questioning your line of thinking…just as I did last night.”

“Are you sure this is something you want to enact?”

Talon listened to everything the Captain said to him. His face impassive showing no emotion as the Captain explained the potential consequences of a tribunal hearing of the charges against him. When Gavison was finished, Talon relaxed his stance a little and looked him straight in the eye.

“Captain,” he began, a hint of emotion in his voice though it wasn’t anger, more like regret, “I understand what you are saying. I respect you sir, more than any other man, human, Lyran, or otherwise. We have fought together side by side through battles we thought we would never survive, and we have saved each other’s lives time and again. You are like a brother to me, and I regret the situation I have placed you in at this time.”

“However,” Talon continued, “I do not believe I have disobeyed any orders given to me by Cmdr Fletcher or yourself. The XO ordered me to treat the survivors with respect, and I believe that I did under the circumstances. I did not imprison anyone, I did not harm anyone, and the short time they were delayed while being screened was only a minor inconvenience at best.”

“I admit that I may have acted rashly with the incident with Crewman Stowbriesky,” he said with a wry smile, “but I don’t believe that a minor inconvenience of being isolated in sickbay is being treated with disrespect. We do it all the time with patients that might be a danger to themselves of the rest of the crew.”

“Maybe,” Talon said with a shrug, “my interpretation of ’respect’ differs from Cmdr Fletcher’s but you know me and my race sir, and we are not known for subtleties when dealing with problems. I was only trying to isolate a potential threat since we are apparently dealing with possible sabotage in the destruction of the Cerebeus. The crewman was not to be harmed and considering his condition from what I have learned now, he no doubt would not even have known of the isolation. If potential threats are not to be acted upon sir, why are we holding the Romulans in a security field separate from the other survivors? They, like crewman Stowbriesky, have not been shown to have done anything wrong, yet!”

“So again sir,” He went on, “I must state; I dont believe I have disobeyed the orders given me by Cmdr Fletcher.”

Talon paused to consider something then continued, “As to the punishment you laid out for me. I do admit I acted impulsively and disrespectfully towards the.. Security Officer of the Cerebeus, and towards Lt. Cmdr Kato 3. When given the chance I will apologize for those transgressions and would even think it acceptable for such actions to be placed in my permanent Star Fleet record. But, I do not believe such actions warrant a demotion or the insufferable indignity I would feel at being placed under the command of one whom you know is an hereditary enemy of my people. How would you feel sir if you were ordered by Star Fleet to obey orders of Romulans? Given your past history, I do not believe you would care for it at all.”

“Speaking for myself sir,” Talon said softly yet the Captain could see his hands clenching at his side so hard that the talons of his fingers were digging into his palms, blood began to drip down his fists and drop to the deck, “I would rather die than be subordinate to any Kzinti.”

Talon straightened himself and unclenched his fists but didn’t seem to notice the blood dripping from his hands. He looked at the Captain and held his chin high as he concluded.

“Since I have no other alternative to avoid the punishment you have decided to levee upon me, then a tribunal is the only possible way I can prove my innocence of the crime of insubordination. No matter how slim the chances might be considering the officers involved in this matter will comprise two thirds of the tribunal.”

What's your character's name?

Sna’kti Sarassi’ka

Three words to describe his disposition:

Temperamental, Loyal, Honorable

How he feels about people:

He likes people in general, though humans and other races tend to fear him because of his unusual race and appearance he doesn’t hold that against them. He makes friends slowly, but once he does he is loyal and will risk his life for them.

What he values most:

Honor, Friendship, Battle.

The person he values most:

With all of his family dead and no Kazari friends around, he has only made friends with few people. The one he values the most is Maurius Vispansius Dio, traveling companion and friend.

His most valued possession:

His ‘Sho’tal’, a curved scimitar like weapon with a blade that is curved so sharply that the point of the blade almost points back at the hilt. The weapon is used in a sweeping motion and combined with the strength of the Kazari can do great amounts of damage. Sna’kti’s favor attack against multiple opponents is to wade into them swinging his ‘Sho’tal’ in wide sweeping arcs slicing open any who dare get in his way. This weapon was made by his father and given to Sna‘kti when he passed the rights of adulthood.

His general philosophy (alignment):

Sna’kti can be violent, he loves battle and he can instill fear in most humans just from his size and appearance, but he does have a soft spot in him and seeks only to do good and help others less fortunate than himself. Most of the time he will do whatever it takes to do what he feels is right especially where law and order can do nothing to right the wrongs that plague society. (i.e. Chaotic Good).

Patron deity:

Sna’kti, as his entire clan before him, follow the teachings of Thearassor - God of Righteous Battle.

Character's description:

Sna’kti is a Kazari, a creature that looks like a large tiger which walks erect on two feet; he has whiskers, a tail, talons and very sharp looking teeth. When standing fully upright he stands just even at 6 feet tall; his grey striped fur concealing rippling muscles which while not overly large still mask strength that some underestimated, to their lament.

A list of mundane gear that the character absolutely must have:

Sna’kti carries little beyond what he needs, besides his weapons and clothing he carries a drawstring sack which holds the standard things he often needs when traveling: food, tinderbox, waterskin, sharpening stone, small flask of oil, a couple of small leather bags, 3 sticks of chalk, a small pouch (coins), and of course a large brush (very important for a furred creature).

Any livestock that the character may own:

None, they don’t last past dinner time.

Description of clothing worn/carried:

He wears a simple loincloth, a dak’tar, with a weapon belt around his waist and a wide strap that crosses his chest and over his left shoulder. A curved sword of strange manufacture, a Sho’tal, rests on his left hip and several daggers reside upon the wide strap across his furry chest.

Any aliases that the character may have gone by in the past:

Friends may call him ‘Snickers’, a nickname given to him by Maurius Vispansius Dio because of the snickering sound he makes when he laughs.

Any organizational affiliations that you'd like me to entertain:

None

(Sorry it took so long, but I finally got around to it. With this and his background already posted here you should have what you need. If you give SNa'kti any magical items remember he wont wear armor, it is cowardly, but relies on his agility to avoid damage in combat. Any other questions, let me know. Thanks!)

“We could try going around the clearing,” MDK whispered again, “or … how do you like water?”

“You’re fraggin’ insane,” the bounty hunter hissed as she took in the distance from their location to the water flow. “If that thing is a sentry, or a turret, it’d cut us down before we ever reached the stream. I say we go around.”

She didn’t wait for him to confirm her decision, but slowly crept backwards until she was sure she was out of the thing’s line of sight.

MDK only shrugged as it didn’t matter to him, he hadn’t planned to walk out there and slip into the stream, he would have went up stream and entered there out of the clearing and then used the stream as cover to move through the clearing past the ‘sentry’. But her way was fine with him so he followed her as she moved uphill and went around the clearing.

He scanned the woods ahead of him with his enhanced sight and when he spotted movement, he crotched and raised his fist in stop her. He zoomed in on the movement and soon saw the first man wearing Biotechnica armored fatigues and carrying a heavy machine gun in his hands. He scanned around knowing he wasn’t alone and soon saw his comrades.

MDK lowered his hand and then stuck it out to his side and with his hand level to the ground he spread his fingers wide; he was signaling Peacekeeper to keep low and not to move.

He watched the other five slowly moving through the wooded terrain, quickly determining their path and how close they would come to their location. His right hand hovered over his smart link automat as they watched and waited. His optics zoomed in to keep a close eye on them, especially the ones closest to them.

His smart targeting optics locked on each of the men and determined their relative position, speed and distance. If he saw any sign of recognition, even a muscle twitch in their direction, he would draw and begin to fire starting with the one he sees move first.

MDK didn’t like the odds here, 3 to 1, but he had been in worse situations, and his cover here wasn’t bad as he crotched in the shadow of a large tree near it’s bole. His dark clothing certainly would help in blending him into the shadows; he just hoped right now Peacekeeper didn’t do anything stupid that might get them both killed.

Right now he waited, looking for any sign they had been spotted. Since this was suppose to be a recon mission, he hoped these guys went right on by, otherwise they would have to kill them and that would no doubt alert the facility that someone was sneaking around the area. He did wonder, why this patrol was out here; they did seem to be quite well armed for a standard patrol. Made him wonder if they had been set up.

Ok.. I have posted.. though it may not be the one most will expect.. but knowing Talon by now maybe it isn’t too unexpected. But at least he isn’t yelling at anyone.

I want everyone to know I did discuss the potential action he might take and both GMs indicated that this sort of action would not distract from the major course of the adventure therefore I have taken it. Hope it doesn’t spoil anyone’s fun… well maybe spoil Rrowl’s fun.. but then Kzinti’s arent really fun anyway so…..

Stardate: 2374.09.07
USS Charon – Talon’s Quarters, Deck Two – 06:00 hours

Talon was awake of course, he was always up early and usually he would have been making rounds, attending to the security schedule, checking in with Tactical. Of course he couldn’t do that now since he had his duties stripped from him.

He still didn’t understand, he had only been doing what he thought was right. He wasn’t mishandling the survivors, they were being shown every courtesy and being scanned and cleared as soon as possible, he didn’t get why everyone seemed to think he had been punishing the Cerebeus crew somehow. Humans, some times you just couldn’t understand how they thought.

Last night Talon had a few drinks and wallow in his own self pity, but this morning he was thinking more clearly and the more he thought about it the more he was determined not to let his side of things go unexplained.

/--\\ Chirp! /--\\

He turned his head as someone outside his room requested entry. He sat up on his bunk and sniffed the air. It took him all of two seconds to recognize Captain Gavison’s scent. He was wearing that foul smelling Andorian cologne he wore on far too many occasions; no one, not even Talon, had yet to tell him that it smelled like the bottom of a Hupyrian beetle dwelling.

He hit the button, which notified the person outside that he would be a minute. Talon quickly grabbed a clean uniform out of the closet and threw it on. He wanted to look professional even if he didn’t feel like it right now. He didn’t put on the Lyran sash he normally wore; it contained the holster for his phaser which he had surrendered when he was relieved of duty. He didn’t feel it would be right to wear it under the circumstances.

“Come” Talon said and the door opened to admit Captain Gavison. He noticed the Captain did not take the chair that was here for visiting humans; Talon took that to mean this was official business and knew the Captain didn’t want to drag this out.

“Lieutenant Commander Talon,” Kel’s voice was crisp and low, and his lowered brow was accented by the lighting magnifying his dissatisfaction with the officer. “You’ve been charged with insubordination. Do you understand the severity of these charges?”

Standing stiffly at attention the Lyran nodded and answered in a clear voice, “Yes Sir!”

“What do you have to say for yourself?”

“Sir,” Talon began, “I made a spectacle of myself in dealing with Lt. Cmdr Kato 3 and in my reaction to the presence of Lt. Cmdr Rrowl and in so doing I disgraced you Sir. My conduct there I regret and will apologize to all those involved, but I believe that I was following orders in my dealings with the Cerebeus’ survivors and that the charges of insubordination are erroneous and without merit.”

“I’d like to believe that I’ve given you every opportunity under my command, Mister Talon. I’d like to believe that I’ve honored your customs, educated you in mine, and given you nothing but the opportunity to do damage to the Dominion, and serve in an honorable manner. I’ve been open to your suggestions, respected your opinions, and given you leniency in how you handle your departments. It is apparent to me that I’ve been less than the appropriate mentor, as your actions yesterday not only disgraced you, but me as well.

“There’s only one consequence suitable such behavior, Mister Talon. You are hereby reduced to the rank of Lieutenant. Your behavior, and these consequences, will be recorded on your permanent record with Starfleet. Do you understand these consequences, Mister Talon?”

Talon stiffened ever further at the ‘consequences’ the Captain spoke of and he nodded, “Yes Sir!”

Turning, Kelsey paused as the door slid open, his hand on the frame as though it alone kept him from making his way into the hall. Twisting his torso slightly, he looked back over his shoulder, eyeing the Lyran from the corner of his eye, the scarring about it stretching taut.

“One last thing, Lieutenant Talon,” Kel’s voice was as cold as a moon on the dark side of a planet. “While the crew of the Cerberus are on board my vessel, you will report to Lt. Commander Rrowl. As of today, he’ll be taking over the duties of chief officer over TAC and security until we officially deliver the survivors to DS9.”

“Sir!” Talon said before the Captain could leave the room, “I understand your anger sir and your disappointment with my lack of professionalism when dealing with this matter. What I am about to do has no bearing on my respect for you or your command which I hold in the highest esteem despite my recent behavior.”

Talon seemed to steel himself for what he was about to do by taking a deep breath as the Captain looked at him questioningly.

“Sir,” Talon said in a respectful yet firm tone which spoke of his convictions on this matter, “I must formally decline to accept your ‘consequences’ for the charges laid at my door. I must formally state that under Article 17 of the Star Fleet Code of Justice it is my right to request a tribunal review of the charges against me. Under this article I may refuse to accept Captain’s punishment and be referred to a Tribunal at the earliest convenience to review the evidence against me and to substantiate if the charge of insubordination is warranted.”

Talon paused for a moment, his eyes looking over the Captain as if trying to ascertain his response to what he was saying; he continued before the Captain could respond however.

“In such circumstances,” He continued stating law as if he were reading it from the books, “the accused may not be punished but may be confined as the Commanding officer thinks necessary. If the Captain so wishes, I will resign myself to the brig to await the time when a Tribunal may be called to order, which I imagine might not be until our arrival at DS9, if then.”

Talon fell silent and stood at attention still, waiting on the Captain’s response. He knew he was completely within his rights under Star Fleet Law, but he knew he was taking a big risk. The Tribunal could do even more damage to him, even order his death, if the charges of insubordination were confirmed, but he had to take the chance. He believed he was innocent and that all he did was in the performance of his duties and that he was only following orders in regards to the security of the ship.

His chances were not good since a Tribunal would have to be made up of three officers of command rank; the only ones he knew of in this sector were Captains Gavison, MacTavish and Captain Sisko of DS9. While he knew them all to be stern and demanding, he also hoped they would listen to reason and his side of the story and perhaps understand that he was only doing his job.

Now the Lyran stood awaiting the Captain’s next words wondering if he had just alienated what was the one person he respected the most in the entire galaxy.

DM & Bri, For the sake of your MACO's careers, they might not want to get involved in this one. Thanks for the offer to stand up for Talon though, but that might come later.

TCatt - Might want to wait till I post for Talon, he hasnt exactly accept the Captain's punishment yet. While he has dropped the Stan situation, he still believes he hasnt committed any insubordination and wants to prove it.

Besides, he really doesnt want to have to listen to Rrowl at all, that is the worst punishment.
