Subject: Decisions....

After En’Aranthea finished her report on the bandits and their camp, Varuna thought about how he could help in this coming fight. He knew their would be fighting and probably death, but he had come too close to breaking his vow and killing a man and he knew that while he help defeat these men who slaughtered helpless people he would not kill them.

“Vallendara and Varuna, “the bladesinger turned to them with a quizzical look,” I do not know what spells you may be able to use, but anything to confuse the pirates, slow them or even disable them would help to even the odds, “ she smiled bitterly, “Especially against crossbows. Bladesingers use no missile weapons, so I must close to fight. Tal faces the same challenge, all the more reason to strike at night and reduce the effectiveness of crossbows. ”

Varuna reached up with his left hand and removed his floppy wide brimmed hat and wiped his forehead with the other as he thought for a second, then he looked up at the Bladesinger and nodded.

“I have some ways that I can aid you in the battle,” his voice low and she could still see anguish in his pain-filled eyes, “and I can heal you during combat if needed.”

“Make no mistake, my friends,” En’Aranthea paused to take each person’s gaze with her own, her lovely young face grim,” these pirates will fight without honour, but I will. If any of them offer surrender, we must accept, but guard against treachery. I will not have us kill any who no longer offer resistance, so that they may face the justice of their own race, back in town. If they do not accept capture, however, “ and here her expression turned stony with resolution,” they will have to face Kith-Jora’s justice.”

Varuna remained silent while En’Aranthea spoke, the nodded to most of what she said but when she mentioned sending them to Kith-Jora’s Justice he only shook his head and looked the bladesinger in the eyes, “I can not kill any of them… for if I do…” His voice trembled a bit as he ground to a halt and his eyes dropped as he shook his head.

He silently made another vow that he would not kill today, even if it meant his own life, for Lysora, The Sacred Mother, required him to heal others, to help them, to save them. Killing these men here today would be an act of vengeance, and he would die today before he would make that mistake.

Subject: Vatta...

Vatta follows along with the others as they leave the battlefield and head back to town. She thought about how fortunate she was to have fallen in with a group so skilled in battle. They had killed or routed the enemy from the field with hardly a scratch among them. In her past this kind of luck was rare and unusual.

Arriving in Asbenford she gratefully slips from her saddle in front of the White Hart Inn. She is hesitant to hand over the reins to this half-elf, not knowing if he works here or is just trying to steal their horses. Seeing if any others hand over their mounts then she will reluctantly do the same. As she does so she flashes a guild sign with her hand to the man, “Take good care of them,” she tells him as she turns to remove her pack and bags from the saddle to carry them inside. She knows that if the man is associated with the thieving guild he will recognize the secret sign and will know that a guild member is among this group and therefore the mounts should receive proper care and looking after.

She will head into the Inn where she will want to get a room, put her things there, and then get something to eat. After eating she will look forward to a good nights rest. After they day they had she knows they all need it badly.

Subject: Food for Wolves...?

"Wake and arm yourselves, Wolves re attacking us" Going to Alera, the Thondrek, and then Billy. she shakes them each and tells

Then Siliwen grabs as many horses as she can and brings them closer to the fire. They could not afford to lose their mounts with so far to go. She prepares magic missle spell to use against the incoming wolves.

Siliwen rushes over to the horses but the mounts smell danger on the wind and she struggles with the horses as they try to pull away from her. She has no success alone with trying to pull them in closer to the fire.

"Give the horses some slack in their tether and they can defend themselves. Besides, a panicked horse in our circle could be a bigger problem than the wolves." Billy says.

Siliwen realizes finally that she will lose the horses if she doesn’t stake them out again so she puts them back on the tether following Billy’s suggestion.

The wolves grow closer while the group prepare, suddenly the party hears the bay of the wolves as they come rushing into the trees.

Thor turns to Billy Very good plan Billy You, myself, and Riddle should form a circle with the two ladies who can cast spells should cast from within the circle.

Riddle nods and falls back with his two swords out, “Here they come!” He shouts as the wolves come crashing through the trees.

Siliwen manages to finish staking out the horses and putting some slack in their tether and turns to join the group but before she can a dark shape comes leaping from the brush at her. She screeches and goes to run away from the flying form but trips over a tree root and falls, this clumsy mistake saved her as the hurtling form flew by overhead. A large wolf lands beyond her and turns back to face her. The wolf is massive, at least a foot longer and taller than any normal sized wolf, and snarling at her apparently angry at missing his prey.

Thor, Billy and Riddle take up a defensive arc in front of Alea, thinking Siliwen was behind them as well. When Siliwen cries out at the attack upon her, Riddle turns and sees she is in danger. Being the closest, he runs towards her, “Guard Alea,” Riddle yells to the Thor and Billy, “I‘ll take this one.” Riddle rushes up and puts himself between Siliwen and the wolf causing the creature to pause as it sizes up it newest and obviously more dangerous opponent. Riddle doesn’t attack, but waits for the wolf to decide.

More wolves come crashing through the brush and trees, four leaping at the three opponents before them. Two go after Billy, One goes for Thor, and another slips between them and jumps at Alea seeming to ignore the flaming brand in her hand.

(OOC: Post in any order you wish for this round, wolves will act last. )

(Backposting to purchases in town)
Billy brings his items up to the counter and for 2 gps he takes his rations, rope and oil. The merchant had stated only a single gp for the lot, but when he seen the unknown mark of your gold he figured that he would have to regretfully charge an exchange rate.

Thor managed to find some dried fish wrapped in oil paper, a small wheel of aged cheddar, trail rations, a small keg (2 gal) of the finest ale he has in stock (which is also the same he sells to the Carousing Pony) and the other small items he picked up (Marbles, hooks, hammer, parchment paper, ink and quill- metal tipped) and pays 7 gp for the lot, which includes the same exchange rate for everyone.

Riddle only looks around the shop but doesn’t buy anything; he seems to be just biding his time waiting for the others.

While Thor goes to the armory, Alea seeks out a local fisherman that Arthur Bent recommended. The short uneven lengths of rope were scrapes and the merchant just told her to take them and charged her nothing. The lead weights and rope for the lassos cost only 7 sp for the lot.

Alea manages to find the fisherman with little difficulty, as the old man is repairing some nets. He looks at her strangely as she gives him instructions to make the bolas, he is so intrigued by the idea of the bola that he doesn’t charge her anything for his time. His old twisted hands make quick work of the ropes and shortly she has her bolas. As she leaves him with her thanks, she can see him working on another one from a piece of left over rope.

Thor walks into the Sword & Shield Armory and is greeted by a large elderly human male with very large muscles and scars on the exposed skin of his arms. He raises an eyebrow when he sees the dwarf come in and comes over to him, “Welcome Dwarf, my name is Thorin,” he says in almost perfect dwarven. The armorer tells Thor that he knew and fought with dwarfs long ago and hasn’t seen his kind in many long years. He knows nothing about the plight of the dwarfs but he holds one day to learn that they have not perished for good.

After talking to the dwarf about what he is looking for in a distance weapon, Thorin nods and smiles, “I have just the thing for you my friend… follow me.” He turns and leads Thor behind the counter and down a short hallway to a room that he unlocks and leads him inside.

There Thor sees some very fine weaponry of exceptional quality; Thorin walks over and lifts a heavy crossbow from where it hangs on the wall. Turning he hands it to Thor, “This is one of the finest Dwarven Crossbows I have ever seen.” Thor notices the stout build of the weapon, the dwarven war symbols carved in the wood of the stock, the exceptionally heavy string and fine steel cross. The weapon looks like it could shoot bolts through a building or even stone.

Thorin hands Thor a bolt case with 2 score quivers and smiling at Thor, “Take the crossbow,” he says, “I have no need of it and besides I cant sell it as I haven’t found anyone strong enough to even set the string.” He chuckles and leads Thor back out to the front room. He will insist that Thor keep it and will not accept any gold for the item though he will say, “If you wish to pay me back for it someday, find out what happened to your people here.”

Thor will find out that the crossbow has no cocking arm of any kind and is only cocked by setting the front on the ground, placing a foot in the stirrup at the front and drawing back the string with both hands. After doing it once he can see that very few humans would have the strength required to use this crossbow.

Everyone sleeping bolted awake at Siliwen’s scream, looking around they see no sign of danger though they will see Siliwen sitting upright with Riddle kneeling next to her, he looks at the others, “Siliwen has had a nightmare,” he says softly, “there is no danger.”

Riddle turns back to Siliwen and gently rests a hand on her shoulder, “There is no danger here, all is quiet,” he says then smiles slightly, “well.. except for your screaming.” His smile shows that he is joking and trying to alleviate her fears.

“If you wish, you may sit up with me a while and talk, maybe it will help,” Riddle offers. He gestured to the others that they can go back to sleep if they wish.

(Assuming all do, also since the group didn’t list a watch order I have set the following for tonight: Billy, Alea, Thor, Riddle, Siliwen. The party can change the order in the future if you wish.)

As the others drift back off to sleep Riddle throws another small log on the fire keeping it going but low so as not to give away their camp from a distance. He sits down on the ground about 5 feet away from Siliwen looking at her.

“Who is Joriel and how did he die?” he asks her thinking maybe if she talks about it maybe she can be assured that the nightmare was only in her head.

(Room for response if any from Siliwen)

Riddle only nods to her and remains silent for a moment, he looks at her with sympathy in his eyes and opens his mouth to speak when he suddenly jumps to his feet and cocks his head to the side, he appears to be listening. He turns his gaze to the plain area beyond the trees to the South.

“Wake the others quietly,” he tells Siliwen, “we will have company soon.”

He leaves her to wake the group as he moves through the trees to see more clearly to the South. When the others are awake and join him near the edge of the trees they will all see what he sees.

The two moons are out and the sky is clear and bright with stars; the grasslands surround them with only a few groups of trees and the far off road in the distance to mar the perfect green sward.

Riddle points to the South and they can all see, though the elves keen sight picks it out almost before the Ranger points to it. Large dark squat shapes moving quickly through the knee high grass. From this distance it is hard to make out exactly what they are but they are larger than a dog, and moving very fast in a direct line to the group of trees where the party has made camp.

“Wolves!” Riddles says as he backs up a bit drawing his two swords, “Large ones and they know we are here.”

(One round to prepare before they arrive, preparatory posts please.)

Sam’s Place – Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 10:33am

Mae sat drinking his coffee waiting on his breakfast when the two men entered. He switched the coffee to his left hand as watched the two move about the room looking for someone. Seeing them come towards him he kept both hands on the table top as they came up to his table.

Already the Targeting scope in his eye had locked on to the two and he quickly accessed them and with a mental shrug he locked his targeting reticule on the face of the obvious bodyguard. He scanned his image enhancement over the two paying close attention to the important details such as: weapon locations, obvious cyber ware, their preferred hand, and even the details of the half concealed tattoo on the man’s hand. What he could see of the tattoo he would run through possible design configurations to try and determine to what affiliation the man might belong.

“You’re who is called, MDK, are you not?” He didn’t wait for affirmation, but motioned at the seat across from the solo. “Mind if I join you?”

Mae took a sip of his coffee as he looked the man up and down and then returning the cup to the table top he nodded slightly towards the seat across from him. He didn’t ask what the man’s business was with him for he knew it was a ridiculous question and the man would tell him soon enough.

Night City – The Mortuary (Coffin Motel) - Friday, March 13th, 2020, 1000hrs

Mae slept in since he didn’t have much to do this morning. He turned on his phone and after a few seconds it beeped with a message alert. He read the message from Lightning:

Got no brunch plans but your buying.

Mae smirked slightly, the Tech was always one for a free meal. Well he would pay for this one, but the Tech would have to earn the rest.

Stepping out of his ‘room’ he straightened up and stretched to his full height of 6’3”. He was tall for a Asian man, but he had seen a few taller. He checked his gear, most of which was on his person or stashed in the pockets of his leather duster. Checking off everything in his head he nodded and left the motel. He hoped that one day he could at least afford a nice place to stay, someplace you could at least stand up and walk around in.

Night City – Sam’s Place (Diner) - Friday, March 13th, 2020, 1020hrs

Mae entered the diner and looked around slowly, his optics scanning everyone there. The place was about a quarter full, most looking like working stiffs or solos like himself. He nodded to a few he knew vaguely from the Afterlife bar as he headed to a lone table to the side. He removed the duster and draped it over the chair next to him before he sat with his back to the wall, facing the main area of the room and the front door.

He reached inside an inside pocket of his duster and pulled out his Smartlink cable. He plugged it into the socket in the handle of his .44 Automag and then ‘jacked’ into the port in his right wrist. Instantly accessing his targeting software and sighting in his eye; nodding at the interface he ordered an omelet and coffee when the waitress came by his table. She looked over the solo, smiling as she apparently liked what she saw, but then frowned when he didn’t return the look or appraisal. She went to the kitchen to put in his order and bring his coffee.

Mae didn’t need to look the waitress over, his Image enhancement routines had already sized up everyone in the room and the waitress didn’t demand any more of his attention other than to bring his order.

She returned with his large cup of coffee, he nodded to her and continued to watch the room. He glanced down at the watch under the skin of his right wrist, it was 10:30 and as he looked up at the door, sipping his coffee, he wondered if the Tech would show.

Before leaving Anya's

Once again Siliwen makes a request, "Could you spare a jar of that salve you used to help Riddle." IF nothing else they would be better able to treat one of themselves if poisoned by the Na'sir.

Anya smiles gently at Siliwen, “Honey, in that bag I gave you there is a jar of the potion that will cure the Nas’ir poison as well as a jar of healing salve for each of you as well as a couple of bottle of my finest healing potions.”

She opens the bag in Siliwen’s hands and pulls out a small jar of salve, “This is to be used as soon as possible, just rub it on the wound and it will stop the bleeding and begin healing.” She replaces that jar and pulls out the bottle of Nas’ir cure and the healing potion, “The poison cure will require just a few drops in the victim’s mouth and the healing potion will require a good sip but know that it is a potent cure, more so than the salves.” She replaces the bottles in the bag and closes the flap returning it to Siliwen, “Use them well, they will aid you greatly.”

Riddle watches as Siliwen apparently ignores his words of gratitude at her kindness while he was incapacitated he merely sighs slightly and turns to gather his things. When the others move out he follows them keeping a close watch on the surroundings. Though the path is well concealed here to his trained eye it is as clear as day, though he knows that most might not see it even if they were looking for it. Only a trained eye, or perhaps other woodland creatures, such as elves, would be able to readily discern the way.

Tyr the barkeep of the Carousing Pony is waiting for you outside the wooded area, he turns surprised at seeing you but smiles when he sees Riddle walking with you all, “Ah.. she helped you.. but my that was quick.. you weren’t gone for more than a minute.”

You all know that it was more than half an hour and possibly closer to an hour after all the telling was done. The Barkeep shrugs and gestures to you to follow as he turns back to the town, “Well good to see you are all well.. I know most here don’t like the old woman and call her a witch.. but me thinks it is just superstition and fear talking.. she has never harmed anyone here that I know of but she has helped many a sick people.”

Leading the party back into town, Tyr tells them, “I guess you be wanting rooms and such to rest after your ordeal. I have the finest rooms and the best Inn in town,” he says with a grin and a wink, since it appears that his is the only Inn in town.

(Assuming from everyone’s posts that they are supplying and then leaving immediately)

Tyr’s smile fades when they tell him their plan to gets supplies and leave immediately, he tries to persuade them to stay the night at least but when they insist they must leave he sighs and nods knowingly. “I guess the old woman must have told you much to get you right back on the road, but if you must… I will take you directly to the Merchants.”

Tyr takes back into town they way you came, you pass the storefront with the sign depicting a sword and shield, obviously the armory shop, and proceeds on to the mercantile next door. There is a lot of activity here, you see Ben Alscok standing near his now full wagon talking to a well dressed man, and they shake hands as the group approaches. Ben turns and sees them approach, “My friends, you are all well I see,” spotting Riddle up and about, “So have you come to trade? If so, I wager Arthur will give you a fair deal.” Ben says nodding his head towards the man he had been talking to when the group arrived.

While the group is addressing Ben, they notice Tyr walk up and talking quietly with the man who appears to be the merchant here, the man Ben referred to as Arthur. After a minute, Tyr brings the man over and introduces him to the group, “It pleases me to introduce to you Arthur Bent, and he is the best merchant in these parts.” He chuckles and Arthur smiles as he bows slightly to the party, “Welcome to Northpoint, my friend Tyr says you are in need of supplies and he has impressed upon he the urgency of your journey. How may I help you?”

Seeing they are going to be busy, Ben says his goodbyes, wishing them well, gets atop his wagon and heads back out of town the way he came in with them.

(If anyone wishes to visit the armory, you can post what you are looking for in there and I will backpost to that event.)

When they turn to go inside the mercantile to do business, Tyr bids them farewell also, “I must be back to my business, I wish you a safe trip and if you pass this way again please stop in and have ale with me.” He smiles and starts to go, but stops and turns back, “Oh.. I persuaded Arthur here to give you a discount on your goods, so make sure you stock up on whatever you need for your trip.” He smiles, waves and takes off back to the Inn hoping that his wife hasn’t let the place go to Hades while he has been gone.

Inside the mercantile is as expected, the main room is packed with barrels, sacks, boxes, tables, etc. all filled or covered with all manner of goods. Just about every normal item any adventurer could want can be found here. “Look around and let me know if you don’t see what you want,” Arthur says as he heads towards the counter, “Just bring up what you want to purchase and we will settle it up there.”

(Everyone can state what they are buying at the mercantile and the amounts will be listed in my next post. Anything unusual can be requested IC or in the Q&A and I will let you know if you find it. After all is purchased, will backpost that in next post, I will assume the party is going ahead as planned and leaving the town. I will continue on to get the group moving, please backpost anything you wished to do before leaving.)

Leaving the mercantile with their goods at a very reasonable rate, they head to the stable across the street where they find their horses well cared for indeed. In the short time the horses seem well fed, brushed and rested. The stable hands will quickly saddle and harness up the mounts while the party settles with the stable master on the price; a fee of 8 sp for the lot.

Location: Leaving Northpoint
Date/Time: Day One/Noon

Once they are mounted up and ready to ride it is nearly Noon. They ride out of town as previously mentioned to the East, opposite to the direction they wish to go, and once out of town a bit they circle around to the South and head South Southwest as indicated on the map. There is a road but as someone mentioned they might want to stay off the road as anyone looking for them would probably be looking for them on that road.

They travel the rest of the day without incident and as night approaches they find a small grove of trees in which to camp and keep them out of sight while giving them a good open view of the land around them so they would easily spot anyone approaching their encampment.

Once the group is camped they eat, having not had a decent meal since they arrived here early in the morning, and find themselves famished. The fare, though typical for the trail, is quite delectable and soon they are all sated. The gloom of night gets deeper and soon all but the person (or persons) on watch are awake.

(Assuming you set the customary watches at night, I will continue, but please let me know the watch order)

The sounds of night are typical and except for the two moons that come up later in the night and the strange unrecognizable star patterns they would find it hard to believe they were on a different world than their own.

(More assumptions here, but I think they are minor)

All the watches go smoothly and without incident, and Siliwen is currently on watch, sitting on an overturned tree reading from her spellbook and glancing up now and then to look about the open area surrounding their camp. This is a perfect spot since they are hidden from immediate view and can see far in all directions and the trees are just thick enough to dim down the light from their small fire. Siliwen returns to studying her spells for the coming day when she hears a snap, a twig perhaps, she hops up looking around and sees a figure walking towards her through the trees. She is wondering how this person got this close without spotting them in the open, “Who is there?” She challenges but the person does not reply, she looks around at the other sleeping party members and is surprised that none of them awoke at her challenge.

She is about to yell out a louder challenge when the figure steps into the light from the fire, she is too stunned to speak for before her stands Joriel her former –dead- mentor and teacher. He appears exactly as she saw him last, severely wounded but he is alive and standing about 10 feet from her.

Before she can regain her composure enough to speak, he addresses her, “Sil, why did you leave me? Why did you bury me alive?” It is his voice but it is tinged with pain and anguish as if she had betrayed him and abandoned him. He took another step towards her, “Why Sil, after I risked my life for you?”

Unable to find her voice from the shock of seeing him standing there covered with dried blood and dirt, as if he had dug himself up from the grave to come and find her, Siliwen can only stammer incomprehensibly. He continues to slowly approach her, a pained look of betrayal on his face which suddenly switches to anger, “You failed me Sil, you left me and buried me after all I have done for you. How dare YOU?” At the last he lunges are her and his hands go out clawing for her throat.

She manages to find her voice enough to shriek as he crashes into her and takes her to the ground, his hands grasping her throat. She starts to gasp for air as his hands tighten, she looks around at the others all sleeping peacefully, and Billy’s snoring almost drowning out her pitiful gasps for breath. She looks up into Joriels face as he strangles her, a face filled now with rage as he spits out between clenched teeth, “This will teach you to leave me for dead.”

Siliwen startles awake, sitting up and almost screaming. She looks around from where she is laying around the fire, the rest of the group is sleeping, Riddle is on watch and he walks over to her and squats down concerned, “Are you alright?” Everything else seems fine, no sign of trouble in the camp, it appears to have all been a nightmare but it seemed so real and terrifying.

(Edit Note: Anyone could have heard Siliwen scream when she woke up and could post to that effect if they so wish.)

Hey Drakar...glad to see your still in. MDK needs someone to help keep him under control.

One problem; your time codes are off according to your post. You have it on Thursday the 12th when MDK texts you about 4am on Friday the 13th. His invite was for Lighning to meet him at 10:30am on the 13th which I will post for later. Might want to check your time codes.

I posted MDK’s acceptance of the meeting. I also posted a message to Lightning, Drakar’s C. Don’t know if you are still playing Drakar, but I left an invite for you. Havent seen your intro yet, so if your going to play I left an opening for our two Cs to meet.

I previously posted that they have worked together, see my intro post on page 13 for a few details.

MDK will post later, about 1030hrs, about arriving at the meeting with Lightning, and will wait to see if the Tech shows.

GM:

Don’t know how much time MDK has before Noon post. I plan to have him go to brunch at 1030 to see if Lightning will show. Show or not, MDK will go to the Red Lantern at about 1155. Should there be any interruptions before arriving? If so let me know. Otherwise I will proceed as planned. Don’t want to jump ahead too far.

Night City – The Mortuary (Coffin Motel) - Friday, March 13th, 2020, 0350hrs

Mae ‘s phone beeped again that he had a message, his eyes snapped open as he raised the phone and read the message:

Meet at the Red Lantern, Dockside, Noon. Bring any extra hands

He smirked as he typed his short reply: Acknowledged

He lay awake thinking of on the ‘extra hands’ part of the message; it sounded serious. This could be trouble, the thought caused him to grin slightly. He liked trouble, otherwise he wouldn’t be in the business.

He could only think of one person at the moment that might be able to join him on this one; Lightning. He didn’t know if the Techie would be interested but Mae would sure like to have him along on this one. If equipment went south a Tech was always a good thing to have on hand.

Flipping open his phone he sent Lightning a text message:

Giving class to Corp tomorrow, need fix-it man on duty, if interested meet me at Sam’s for Brunch 1030hrs.

He had given Lightning the name of a small diner around the corner from his motel. A small place not far from The Afterlife Bar therefore a popular dining place for out of work solos. A safe place usually because of all the firepower around the place most gangs stayed out, if they knew what was good for them.

After sending the message he shut off his phone, closed his eyes and drifted back off to sleep quickly.

Brianna

Anya gave you a jar of the liquid that she used on Riddle to cure the paralysis poison... it a potion and not a salve.

Inside the bag are also healing salves and a couple other bottle marked as healing potions (maybe about 10 doses per bottle).

When Lorae mentions searching for magic items she remembers the weapons she took from the leader. She couldn’t identify magic items but she was pretty sure an orc leader such as that one surely had something on him magical. She had taken anything he had on him that looked like it might be worth taking; her profession did give her a knack for spotting valuable items.

(OOC: I never learned what he got off the Leader, be it Gold, jewelry, weapons, etc. Can you please post to what she found.)

While the others tend to searching the battle area for magic, she would look over what she had found and if Cerric answers that he can determine if an item is magic then she will ask him to check the stuff she had found. Anything not useable by her, she will offer them up for use to the others. If no one has a need for them, she will keep them and see about selling them later.

Night City – The Mortuary (Coffin Motel) - Friday, March 13th, 2020, 0345hrs

Mae was a light sleeper, it came with the job, and awoke instantly when his cell phone beeped that he had a message. He looked at his skin watch and frowning at the time wondered who would be texting him at this time of the morning.

Flipping open his phone he read the message: Megacorp needs a lesson taught. You game to be the teacher?

Reading between the lines he sighed knowing that there was likely to be little to no pay in this job… but… he did have a hard on for putting the hurt to the MegaCorps. He considered it for a few moments. What were his alternatives… sit around here being bored and hoping something better would come along… or get in on the action. It took all of 10 seconds for him to decide.

The sent a reply to the message: Teacher available… where and when does class start?

Closing his phone he lay back and closed his eyes again.. He would get what rest he could until he knew where he was to go and when he had to be there. He reached down and laid his hand on his Automag laying next to him, finding comfort in the cold hard specialized grip as he drifted off waiting for a reply.

Subject: Vatta

Seeing that the newcomers were indeed comrades in this fight, Vatta sheathed her weapons and mounted her horse. Riding over to the rest of the group she chuckled, loud enough for the female leader of the other group to hear her, “It’s not the quantity of the company.. But the quality that matters in a battle.” She smiled politely even though her words showed that she took slight offence at the woman’s thoughts that they surely couldn’t have killed so many.

Vatta sat atop her mount waiting on the others, she turned to Brianna when she spoke.

"Certainly it is all of us," grins Brianna. "which includes three fine swords wielders, an mighty axman, two fine bowman, our magic using priest and also we had the help of several war horses, two bears, and a currently missing dragonette. That is our company. Also we had a good plan too and we help to it. That made all the difference." Well if you point us in the right directions we shall make our waight to the town that been rescued.”

"All in all a fine battle. and now I wouldn't be mining finding a tavern or such like and having a drink and a meal. This fighting gives me a powerful urge to eat and drink. Eh! Highnar, my friend. What say you to my paying for the first round of drinks."

She leans over a bit and speaks to Brianna, “That would be one fine bowman and one fine bow ‘woman’ ” She corrects her with a friendly teasing smile and a wink. “I could use a drink as well,” She says absently to herself.

Turning to look at Cerric she smiles, “Do Disciples of Oghma drink ale?” she ask, “If so I would like to buy you a drink… I think you could use it.” She can tell that the Priest is shaken a bit by what he has witnessed here today, she knows it isn’t easy.

She remembers her first kill, she was only 9 years old, deep in the sewers of a city she had wrestled in the dark with another kid who was about a 11 years old over a half eaten, moldy loaf of bread. Even though the boy was older and stronger, she had managed to slip her rusty little kitchen knife up under his ribcage and into his heart. She had sat watching the boys blood seep out to mingle with the sewers waters, while eating the spoils of her victory which had been the sweetest tasting bread she had in a long time, all the while crying heavily at the emotion of killing another person all over a moldy piece of bread someone had tossed out in the trash.

She sighed at the sudden memory and sat atop her mount waiting for the call to move out. She would follow when the order was given and looked forward to a bit of rest, drink and a chance to resupply her dwindled quiver of arrows.

Subject: Info... time to go.

Anya returned to her stool after checking on Riddle and seeing that he was fine. She listened to the group talk of betrayal and causes and feelings of hopelessness. She chuckles slightly, “I am sure the Gods know what they are doing.”

“I can not speak for gods, but I figure that perhaps it is your lesser power that is the reason you were chosen.” She smiles and nods her head letting them know that they did hear her correctly. “Yes you are right Alea, your arrival was seen by the Dark One.. But perhaps that was because of the great magic that was used to bring you here across worlds. No minor feat is that I can assure you. No.. all of you are relatively minor heroes to be sure.. But perhaps the God that chose you for this mission counted on that. The Dark One can sense power and he could surely track powerful heroes that might attempt to approach his land. He would be warned and ready. But a small group such as yourselves could seek into the area and win it’s way close to it’s objective without attracting his attention.”

Anya shrugged slightly as she continued, “I don’t think the Gods are trying to be cruel to you… just remember as mortals we are not always aware of the foresight that the Gods possess.”

She turned to Thor with a smile, “As to your question regarding a map of the dwarves mines under the Gray Peaks… surely you know that dwarfs don’t require maps of their own mines…. Everything they need to know is always available up here,” She tapped a finger to her head. “No I cant help you with a map of the peaks.. And only the dwarves know those mines… But I assure you the mines are large… I know you will always be able to find your way to the surface if need be.. But I think the Gods may also have other ways of guiding you then a simple map.”

Turning to Billy, “I have never seen the stone before.. I am not that old,” she chuckles, “but it will be small enough to hold in your hands and it would be recognized by the evil power emanating from within… you will know it when you see it. “

“As for how to destroy it,” she sighes, “I cant tell you… only the Gods would know.. again I can only counsel you to trust in the Gods to show you the way. But I will remind you that the stone is evil.. Beware of it’s power… it is not a mindless hunk of rock… it has it’s own will and desires… all of them very dark indeed.”

She glances at Alea and Siliwen then back to Thor, “The Elves of Tremoria area a solitary group,” she says, “they did not mingle much with the other races but since the invasion they all but vanished. They are aware of what goes on, I feel their spell weavers working to gather information. I feel my influence would do little to persuade them on a course of action they have not already decided upon. But I can contact them and let them know that a group of adventures are going after the stone to stop the Dark One… perhaps they will send aid.. But.. I can not say for certain.”

“Anya looks thoughtful for a moment then raises her head looking at all of you, “The creatures of the Dark One are not as numerous and one might think.. They contain a lot of smaller races that are easily swayed to darkness.. for whatever reasons .. Gold.. the slaughter.. they are only dangerous to you in great numbers.. you should be able to handle them if you come across them unless they are a large force. However, the special beasts the Dark One brought with him are more powerful and dangerous. “

“The Nas’ir you have already meet.. and by now you see their strengths… beware them in open areas where their attacks are stronger… but they are the weakest of the ones you must face… the Kree are large insectoid warriors who travel in groups.. they fight with a tenacious nature and are formidable .. their weakness is that they are dumb and might be easily fooled.”

Anya sighed, “The worse are the Shelnak… they are tall thin creatures who are very powerful in natural magic. They fight in small groups and channel their magic into one of their group and make him very powerful.. beware this group and if you encounter them remember to try and disrupt the group.. scatter it and you can break their power.”

The old woman looks tired and sighs again, “I will not lie to you.. It will be difficult.. But I have faith in the Gods that they have chosen you for a reason and that they will support you when you need it. Have faith.”

She gets up and goes to the cupboard and pulls out a small carry bag with a shoulder strap. She comes over to Siliwen and hands her the bag, “Inside are several small jars of healing salve which will aid you…also the liquid cure for the Nas’ir poison…distribute them as you will amidst yourselves as you wish.”

Riddle smiles up at Silawen when she addresses him, “Thank you for comforting me when I was paralyzed.. I could hear and see you but could not respond.. It was most frightening.. but your presence helped to get me through it…. Thank you!”

Anya rises and slides her stool to the side, “Well.. I don’t know if I can be of any further help.. I have told you all I can.. The rest is up to the Gods.” She gestures to the door as if to say it is time for you to go.

(Assuming you leave)

Anya watches you from the cabin doorway and calls out to you before you leave the clearing, “Remember.. Time is of the essence.. Do not dally.. The whole world may be in your hands.”

“You can count on me too!” A voice says from the bed. Looking over they see Riddle now sitting up on the edge of the bed looking as if he were never injured.

“Ah!” Anya says and rises from her seat walking over to Riddle, “You seem to have recovered well.” She examines him and nods her head approvingly.

“Yes,” the Ranger says as he rises to his feet and stretches, “I have been awake for some time laying there listening… as the cure took effect.” Moving his arms and legs checking their function, “All sees to be working fine.” He smiles. “I heard most of what was said and I will go on this quest,” he says with a shrug, “Not like I have a choice and well this is why I am here I figure… so count me in.” He sits on the edge of the bed waiting for the others.
