Kane heard Lee’s question and could have kicked himself for his lapse of awareness.

“Good call Sgt your right we are in a bad spot tactically, ok take Pearson and Hatherford with you and cover the North and South doors leading to this hallway.” (Area 15 North/South doors)
“First sign of trouble its your call as senior non-com how to proceed.”

Keeping on eye on the LT and the other on the Medic as the three troopers moved off as ordered, he awaited her eval of Harts wound....

Lee nodded and his estimation of Kane’s leadership increased a little. Though Kane had not immediately seen the bad situation they were in, he recognized Lee appraisal as correct and acted accordingly. He had seen some superiors act irrationally when their errors were pointed out and totally ignore good suggestions when they felt slighted. Lee was glad to see Kane was not that type. “Yes Sgt!” his tone respectful now.

Turning to Pearson and Hatherford he gestured and whispered to them as he pulled them back, “Come on.” He would lead them back to the Area 15 hallway he stopped in the middle, “Pearson take the North door, Hatherford the South door and if anything attacks take cover but do not return fire unless I give the ok.”

Once they were in their positions he would remain in the middle of Area 15 so he could watch both of the men and still see up the hallway towards the observatory.

Shots ring out from the two soldiers, and Hart is clipped by one of the rounds.

Lieutenant Kernan calls down for the soldiers to stand down as the team takes cover. "U.S. Army personnel. Stand down. I repeat; lay down your arms, you are firing on friendlies. Army ranger squad gamma-five-five deployed for your assistance!"

The shots momentarily stop, but then, one of the men calls out. "Who are you trying to kid, pal? Everyone knows there haven't been ranger units for ten years, at least. Stick your head back in here, and I'll take it off for you!"

Sgt Lee was puzzled by the soldiers statement, ‘No Rangers for 10 years?’ What were these guys smoking? He looked around and saw fresh blood on Hart’s uniform and whispers back to the others, not on the frequency, “Hart’s took a round.”

He quickly accesses the situation and doesn’t like it, keeping his gun trained on the door way he slips back a couple steps and whispers over to Sgt Kane and where the LT could also overhear, again staying off the team frequency, “Sgt, I don’t like this position. We are too exposed here in this narrow hallway. May I suggest we pull back from this doorway down the hall. It might give those guys in there time to think things through more clearly. It will also give us more room incase these guys happen to have any grenades on them and think to chuck them through that door.”

He waited for the Sgt and LT to make up their minds, he turned back to the door to watch it. He scanned around quickly trying to find something to dodge behind incase something small came sailing through the door.

Subject: Riddle the Ranger

Riddle watched Billy walk up and ended the suffering of the creature with a clean sword stroke and winced slightly as the head rolled free. He didn’t believe in anything suffering in pain and even though this thing had tried to hurt them he would have done much the same though not for the same reasons as Billy apparently.

As he wiped off his swords and sheathed them he looked over the large man. He seemed to have a strange ideal about honor and battle; Riddle thought this strange considering that Billy looked like a Barbarian. The Ranger nodded his approval of the man’s morals and turned to look at the cloud of dust in the distance that showed the flight of the Leader of the Nas’ir.

Riddle turned back as the others began to talk and started to answer when he felt strange, he shook his head slightly and tried to speak but couldn’t get anything past his lips. He felt his whole body growing stiff and tried to walk forward but only took one step before he collapsed to the ground and became rigid as stone.

Siliwen's focus narrows down to the two still standing Nas'ir. Her next target is the one 20 feet from her. The arcane words of power shape the magic to her will. Again two sparkling missiles flash from her slender finger tips and race towards her chosen target. Twirling and spinning, she watches them until they strike her chosen target.

Her shining missiles streaked across the distance between her and her opponent (Creature #2) striking him once again in his already scorched chest. He roars again and bellows out in common language, “Curse you wizard, how brave a man you must be to strike from a distance at a blinded opponent.” He paused and stood still as his chest smoked from the damage which seemed to be more severe than the creature was letting on. He appeared to be rooted to the spot with his strange anvil shaped head tilted slightly as if he were listening for something.

Alea hurriedly rise and looks at the beast who was down next to her. It is still and unmoving.

She moves to the next closest blind or downed beast and swings with her full might, two hands on her hilt. Only after she hits, does she cry out Corellon's name, she was not so foolish as to alert the beast she was there before hand.

She is in full battle mode driven by the evil they represent. These enemies must die.

Alea has to move a distance to reach the next available enemy (creature #2), as she rushed across the distance she saw two bright dagger-like objects streak past her and hit the creature in the chest. She heard its reply to the attack, “Curse you wizard, how brave a man you must be to strike from a distance at a blinded opponent.” She saw it standing still yet swaying slightly from it’s injuries as she rushed up to it and struck out with her sword. She noticed that as she moved to attack it the creature seemed to swing in her direction as if he could sense her presence and the direction from which she was coming. Two of the beast’s sword swung out and deflected her sword and the creature laughed.

The beast riposte with it's other two swords and one glanced off of Alea's Darkwood shield while the other cut deep into her upper arm above her shield causing moderate damage but not seriously affecting her fighting ability with that arm. She could feel that her injuries were beginning to weigh upon her and that she couldnt take much more of this without recovery.

This is starting to get embarrassing for the wide stance stocky muscular Dwarf is not used to finding himself on his backside. However being as stoic as he always is he keeps his temper in check and goes about what he needs to do to prepare for whatever is next. It seems since his adversary was spent for the moment after casting it's spell Thor decides to take a defensive position. Casting his broken Urgrosh aside he pulls his other two weapons out his war ax in his right hand and his morning star in his left. Facing the nas'ir leader squarely he plants his feet firmly on the ground, and then bellows out his dwarven war cry in which he asks his dwarven gods for the strength to vanquish his foe. gods of Valhalla your servant Thor calls to you, may your strength be my strength and may you guide my hand in vanquishing this foe who spreads evil upon this land. and he finishes with a loud roar R*R#G#G*H#H*H#H*H#H*H

The Leader roars loudly as if in answer to the Dwarf's challenge, but then he pauses and looks around seeing that unbelieveably two of his comrades are down on the ground, one is still blind and is heavily wounded battling a mage and a female warrior of some type. He curses in the strange language of his people and calls out to the only other one of his kind still standing and then turns and gallops away from the group and is soon sprinting quickly out of range his hooves pounding the hard ground in anger.

The one locked in combat with Alea and Silawen turns it's head slightly and yells out something to the retreating leader, though none of the party can understand his cry the tone of it sounds almost pleading as if the thing is crying out not to be left behind to die.

Riddle staggers away from the one on the ground that is now dead and watchs as the female cleric, whom he just saved from a vicious kick of the now dead creature, rushes off without even a thanks and charges at the next nearest beast. He shakes his head cursing slightly and charges after her. He sees her attack the beast without effect and watches as the creature deals her a blow in return. He sprints up and as the Leader of the creatures runs away and this one seems distracted by the retreat of his leadership, he ducks under the tall beast and as he runs between it's legs he slices out with a scimitar to each side striking across it's legs. His hits are true and serious to the already heavily damaged creature and as the weakened beast cries out in pain the Ranger barely rolls clear of the other side before the beast collapses to the ground.

With the tremor subsided, Billy once more turned his attention to his foe. 'I will decorate my halls with your bones' it roared out as it charged. As before, the creature's speed was amazing. But this time Billy was ready and his sword made clean contact. The force of the collision between the two combatants drove the sword deep into the creatures chest and Billy to the ground. For the briefest of moments Billy panicked for there would be little he could do to defend himself while pinned to the earth. Then it dawned on him that the horse-thing was still, too still for one who still drew breath. "Decorate your halls indeed, decorating is women folk's work." he muttered to the dead beast as he attempted to push the heavy carcass off of him so he could regain his feet. Pain in various parts of his body reminded him that he too had taken damage in this fight.

Billy manages to push the heavy beast off of him and slowly get to his feet and take up a defensive postion with his sword. However it seems he has no immediate foe to engage. He watchs as three of the group attack one lone creature as the Leader of the beasts runs away in anger at being defeated by such a small group of beings. His wounds suddenly come crashing in on him it feels as if he might have cracked a rib in the collision with the now dead creature at his feet.

In the end, the group has survived their encounter with the creatures who call themselves the Nas'ir. The leader has fled in defeat, two are dead and the last lays dying on the ground by Alea and Riddle. Though several of the party are injured no one seems in immediate danger.

End Situation:
Party-
Thor – Uninjured
Billy – Moderate Injury
Silawen – Uninjured
Riddle – Minor Injury
Alea – Moderate Injury

Concentrating on one enemy at a time Alea moves try to kill the downed creatures as quickly as possible. But she keeps a lookout to be sure she is not leaving herself vulnerable, or if any of her newly found friends needed help.

As she can strike she calls out, "For Corellon! For Good! Death to the Master and his servants!"

Alea finds it hard, but not impossible, to slip up behind the downed creature as it roars out its anger and flails around on the ground lashing out with its hooves and at least two of the long swords it carries. She gets into a good position and since the creature is blinded its defense is almost nonexistent. Her longsword strikes deep into the shoulder of the beast and it howls even more in rage and lashes back at her with one arm. Being as close as she is she takes a forearm across the face which drives her back for a moment and bloodying her nose (very minor damage).

Thus bracing himself with his left hand holding the ax head and shaft and now with his throwing ax in his right hand he will pivot slightly around the ax head that is still in the ground giving himself a better angle towards his opponent, and as he takes this action he use his body momentum to hurl his hand ax into the Nai’sr leader and then continue his motion so as to end up standing and facing his enemy, with the broken ax in his hands as his weapon at least for now.

Thor’s throwing axe sweeps in front of the leader as he turned to face him again, the leader tried to dodge but the blade caught the edge of one of his upper arms as it whirled past. He roared his anger even though the strike appeared to be more of an insult than an injury (very minor damage).

. As the beast turned, Billy could see that it was injured more seriously than he believed himself to be.

"Another pass or have you tasted enough of my steel?"

Billy called to the creature as he once more held his sword in a defensive posture, ready to defend against a charging attack. Though not the brightest man, Billy was experienced in combat. He knew that any attempt to charge a more agile foe, and this whatever it was certainly was agile despite its size, was a foolish act. No, he would stand his ground. Of course this time he was ready in case the thing tried to trample him.

(OOC: I assume here that Billy is holding his attack that he is guarding and will get his attack if the creature moves within range)

The Leader of the creatures barks out something to the others in a language that none of them understand and all of the creatures standing pause and remain still. The Leader says something that, even though they can’t understand the language, sounds like magic. It only takes a second for its words then it rises up on its hind legs and comes crashing down with its front hooves on the ground. The ground shakes and a wave rises from where the Leader struck and ripples out from there rolling through the ground striking all those standing.

This ‘wave’ has no effect on those creatures standing still but when it strikes the party they find themselves struggling to remain on their feet as the very dirt beneath them tries to toss them aside:

Alea, still partially stunned from the blow to her face, doesn’t see the wave coming and is tossed into the air and lands heavily upon her back next to her enemy. (Minor damage)

Thor is likewise tossed through the air as if he weighed no more than a sack of grain. He lands about 10 feet away upon his back, once again, this time he hits hard but he only has the wind knocked out of him a bit.

Billy’s wide stance, waiting on his enemy to attack again, seemed to allow him to remain on his feet although it did stagger him, and he stood ready for any attack.

Silawen recognized the Leaders words as magic and was prepared for when the wave came at her she nimbly moved over the pitching dirt as graceful as an Elvin Moondancer.

Riddle is not so prepared and though he tries to follow Silawen’s example he doesn’t quite succeed. He manages to avoid being tossed high in the air but he stumbles and comes down on his face causing no real damage except to his pride.

As soon as the wave passed the remaining creatures leap to attack. Creature #1 roars an answering challenge back to Billy, “Your bones shall decorate my hall!” It charges at him gaining amazing speed in the short distance it is away from him. It does appear that it is going to attempt to run him down this time and swipes at him with its swords just before impact. Billy’s long Greatsword reaches out and this time his aim is a little better, the large blade catches the charging beast in the center of it’s chest as the four sword’s in it’s hands sweep across together only inches from Billy’s nose. The impact skewers the creature on the Greatsword and drives Billy backwards, which is the only thing that stopped the creature’s swords from taking the warrior’s head off. The creature crashes into Billy (Minor Blunt Injury) and in a cloud of dust they both go down in a heap and to any observers it is hard to tell it either of the combatants survives the engagement.

Creature #2 is still stunned from its encounter with the spray of blinding colors and it stands still and seems to be trying to sense if any one is trying to sneak up on it and attack.

Creature #3 is seriously injured now as well as blinded, stunned, and unable to stand, it thrashes about kicking its hooves and flailing about with its swords trying to keep any enemies at bay. Several of its hooves come close to the downed Alea as she tries to get out of the way and to her feet.

Siliwen rapidly reviewing her available spells and chose one of the Arcane spells at her command that she could use as a ranged weapon. The Arcane words used to gather the magic to her and form it into Magic Missles ar spoken clearly, her fingers are raised and aimed it at the creature she had hit with color spray. Two izzling sparks of ehergy flash from her finger tips aimed at the beast who had been blinded and stunned.

Silawen, unfazed by the little ‘ripple’ that hindered most of the party, watches as two bright sparks of energy streak from her outstretched hands and strike the creature (#2) squarely in the chest. The surprise impact staggers the great beast and roars its rage at the two smoking wounds which seem to have caused moderate damage to him. It flails about it with its swords unaware that the attack came from far outside its reach.

Riddle rolls to his feet with his swords still in his hands; he spots Alea down near the thrashing creature and sees its hooves striking near to her as she struggles to get clear. Not far away he rushes over and just as she rises he leaps in and nudges her slightly with his shoulder. His little ‘nudge’ staggers her out of harms way as one of the hooves that would have hit her misses him barely, but the claw on the back of the creatures leg cuts Riddle on his leg causing only minor damage. The Ranger lashes out with his two scimitars and they both cut deep into the beast’s abdomen. The Creature (#3) cries out as the serious wounds added to the previous damage cause it to collapse to the dirt and remain still.

End Situation:
Party-
Thor – Uninjured
Billy – Moderate Injury
Silawen – Uninjured
Riddle – Minor Injury
Alea – Minor Injury

Opponents-
Leader – Very Minor Injury - 15 feet past.
Creature #1 – Dead and lying atop Billy.
Creature #2 – blind, stunned, moderate injury – about 20 feet from Silawen
Creature #3 – Dead.

Next Round Initiative: Silawen, Alea, Thor, Creatures, Riddle, Billy.

Seeing the leader finally fall after she had put 10 arrows in him and he took a viscous attack from Shadowbane. She shook her head and mumbled, “They sure are making em bigger now.”

She turned her few remaining arrows looking for the next available targets and she spots a couple of orcs near where the leader was standing. As she draws an arrow and notches it she sees that some of the enemy is fleeing now, the tide of the battle has turned.

As she draws down on her next target (O16) she starts to yell out as if she is addressing her companions, “OUR REINFORCEMENTS ARE HERE, THEY WILL FINISH THE REST OF THESE VERMIN OFF QUICKLY!!”

Hoping her bluff will be overheard by some of the orcs and goblins and further demoralize them, she fires off a volley at her first target (O16) and if he falls she will go to the next closest (O35) to him with any remaining of her three shots .

Thor - At first trying to feel him out and see if he can gain any information from the strange creature, and as he speaks he will casually place the ax portion of his weapon down against the ground holding the spear point out in front pointing up about 45 degrees. “Fear us why should your master fear us we are merely a group of travelers who have camped on this grassy knoll for the night, but I say to you that if you have come here to do us harm than you and your master will have something to fear for we will not stand idle and when all is done we will walk down this hill while your blood and flesh feeds the carrion feeders of this world.” So he waits feet planted firmly weapon planted firmly to take on a charge by these strange creatures.

The Lead creature glares at the dwarf with its soulless eyes, “You dare to speak to me you lowly whelp?” it bellowed incredulously, “I who am Nai’sr!” It strikes its chest with one of it’s swords at this proclamation, “We who drove your miserable people deep into the mountains where they cower in fear of our name.”

The lead creature started walking towards the group and the others spread out and began to follow and soon their pace began to quicken, “We shall add your name to the great list of those who have died at the hands of the Nai’sr!” It proclaimed and then they all leaped forth in a full gallop. They moved with lightning speed, far greater than one would think something so large could run. They were crossing the 50 yards in only a matter of seconds.

“Light grace us with your blessing and we prepare to engage those who threaten us." Alea intoned a Blessing on the members of their group. The words were faint but they all seemed to be able to hear them clearly over the thundering hooves and as the words ended a warm, confident feeling came over them as they watched the creatures charging down upon them.

Each of the creatures seemed to pick a different target, Riddle, Silawen Billy and Thor all had one bearing down upon them, the leader had picked Thor as its target, and seemingly his words had angered the beast. Only Alea was left alone as she took shelter behind one of the nearby scattered trees.

Leader -------------------->Thor
Creature #1 --------------->Billy
Creature #2---------------->Silawen
Creature #3---------------->Riddle
Tree-->Alea

The leader charged at Thor and just as it seemed it would impale itself on the spear point he had aimed at it, the two swords in its left hands sweep across it in perfect timing and batted the spear aside shattering the shaft of his Urgosh and sending the spear head flying. The dwarf was not prepared for the amazing strength of his opponent which 'almost' rivaled his own. The impact causes Thor to be thrown onto his back still clutching the remaining axe portion of the weapon. The disgraceful fall upon his backside is what saved him from serious harm as the beast’s other two swords in its right hands sweep through the space Thor had been standing in. The creature roared past in a rage as he missed his intended target.

The one after Billy charged at him and instead of trying to ride the big man down it past him on the right and swung both of the swords in its left hands at the large man as Billy tried to duck under them and thrust his large sword into the creature’s chest. Both were partially successful, Billy’s sword slashed across the creatures chest as it passed opening up a great wound, while one of the thing’s sword sliced him along the back shoulder causing only minor damage.

The creature bearing down upon Silawen was aimed right at her so when it drew close she could see its strange mouth gleaming with large white teeth. She cast her spell at the last instant and the thing ran directly into a prism of color that sprays forth from her outstretched hands. The creature cried out and veered and just missed her to her right; as it ran it shook its head and cursed as it slowed about 20 feet past her and stumbled around unable to see and apparently stunned.

Riddle had positioned himself close at hand to Silawen incase the woman needed help, therefore the creature charging after him ran straight through the edge of Silawen’s spell, it staggered and almost ran the Ranger down but he saw his chance as the creature slowed and passed him, he leaped at it’s legs and swung with both his scimitars. He missed with one but the other cut deeply along its back leg and the already stumbling creature fell in a cry of pain and rage as the Ranger tumbled through the grass and rolled to his feet agilely.

Alea watched as the large beasts bore down on the others in her party, as fast as they were she didn’t know if she would get a chance to run up behind one, only if it were stopped or moving slow would she get the chance. The gods must be smiling favorably on her for an opportunity presented itself when the closest creature ran into a ray of bright colors cast by Silawen and then the Ranger managed to cut the creature’s leg badly as it missed him. The creature went down in a cloud of dust and grass only a few yards from her tree. As the creature struggle to rise she saw her chance and ran out and sliced at the other rear leg and cut it deeply as she had planned. The creature roared again in pain and one of its front legs lashed out in the direction of the source of the pain. A barbed claw on the back of the creatures leg just above the hoof almost cut her on the arm, only her mithiral shirt armor saved her from harm as the claw racked across it.

End Situation:
Party-
Thor – Uninjured
Billy – Minor injury
Silawen – Uninjured
Riddle – Uninjured
Alea – Uninjured

Opponents-
Leader – 15 feet past Thor turning to re-engage
Creature #1 - injured and about 12 feet past Billy turning to re-engage
Creature #2 - blind and stunned – about 20 feet past Silawen
Creature #3 - down, blind, and injured.

(OOC: You will notice that I didn’t tell you how many HPs of damage were done. I prefer not to do that, rather I tell you the seriousness of the injury and your status. Examples: Minor, Moderate, Severe, Grievous wounds, etc. In the end situation I will also list your status, extent of accumulated injuries so far and any adverse effects. The more intense the adverse effects the worse off you are injured. I believe this way it more realistic and keeps all the numbers out of the game. Healing will work the same way, you will know when you are back to full but otherwise pay attention to what I tell you your body is feeling.)

(Next Round Initiative: Alea, Thor, Billy, Creatures, Silawen, Riddle. You can post in any order if you like; just remember the actions will happen in the order that the initiative dictates. USS Charon – DS9 Space Dock – Gymnasium – 1340hrs

The Bat'leth sang as it cut through the air wielded by the bulging muscles of the Large Klingon warrior, dressed only in a loincloth, but air was the only thing the baakonite blade sliced through in its arc. Its intended target, a Lyran male also stripped down to a single loin cloth, deftly ducked each swing with catlike ease and grace and darted behind the Klingon. The Lyran’s own Bat’leth sliced across the back of the Klingon’s leg leaving a small razor cut which caused the Klingon to cry out in anger more than pain. The Lyran danced away as the Klingon whirled and glared with fury at him.

The Klingon advanced on the Lyran with a ferocious snarl but the Lyran didn’t retreat, instead he stood his ground and met his attacker head on. The Klingon Bat’leth hammered at the Lyran but it could not penetrate the Lyran’s blindingly fast defense. Blow by blow the Lyran turned aside the Klingon attack with brute force against brute force, until the Klingon over extended himself on one high swing and instead of blocking the blow, the Lyran ducked under and cut the Klingon again along the front of his right thigh.

As his opponent once again danced away out of range, the Klingon stumbled and roared with rage. The Lyran only smiled slightly, showing his mouth full of razor sharp teeth, as it slowly circled its wounded prey. There was no doubt the Lyran was toying with the Klingon and it would only be a matter of time before this bout was over. The time came swiftly as the Lyran apparently tired of this exercise and when the Klingon came at him again he deflected his blow to the side, slipped inside his guard forcing the Klingon’s Bat’leth down then the Lyran’s own Bat’leth came up under the Klingon’s chin and laid him out on the floor sending his weapon flying across the floor.

The Lyran stood over his defeated opponent for a moment, the Klingon looking up at him with hatred and rage in his eyes, and then the Lyran swung his Bat’leth around in an arc and brought it down in a hammering blow. The Razor tip of the Bat’leth’s blade pierced the Klingons chest, his heart, out his back and into the deck below. As the light went out of the Klingon’s eyes, the Lyran stepped back and growled softly as he looked upon his defeated opponent, the Bat’leth still sticking up out of the Klingon’s chest.

“Well did you have fun?” asked a human man standing over to the side watching the battle.

“It was entertaining.. for awhile,” answered Talon as he walked over and pulled out the Bat’leth from the Klingon’s chest. “End Program.” He said and the dead Klingon on the floor phased our as the Gymnasium’s holo-emitters removed the adversary it had chosen for the Lyran’s workout today.

“I think the computer needs to program more worthy opponent’s for you,” he human said and chuckled.

Lt. Cmdr Talon glanced over at the human with a look that said he was not amused by his words as he opened the weapons locker that contained all kinds of hand weapons from all sort of worlds, he hung the Bat’leth alongside Terran, Betazoid, Vulcan, Bajoran, and other non-energy weapons are available for training.

Closing the locker, he grabbed the Towel the human now held out for him and wiped at the damp fur on his face as he studied the human. Lt Jake Myers, one of his senior Security Officers and probably the only man who worked for him that didn’t fear the Lyran. Lt Myers was tall for a human, standing an inch over 6 feet in his perfectly pressed security uniform with his ever present Type II Phaser resting at his hip. He was an average looking human with decent features, brown hair and green eyes, which he claimed the ladies adored. Of course, he considered himself quite the ladies man and often tried to entice Talon to join him in his wild nights out on the town.

“The computer is programmed to study my actions and to design an opponent it feels can defeat me,” Lt. Cmdr Talon says with a grin, “of course I adapt faster than the computer.” He tossed the towel in a laundry bin in the corner as he turned to exit the gymnasium.

Lt. Myers followed him out and down the hallway, “So only 4 hrs of drills this morning? Someone must be pleased.” He joked knowing that Talon was seldom pleased with anything.

“They managed to get their efficiency on those last two simulations to 99.9%… so it was.. Satisfactory” Talon said not bothering to look at the Lt knowing he would be smirking back at him.

“Well you have been hard on them and don’t you think they feel as bad as you about the beating we took?” Myers asked serious now.

They arrived at the Lt. Cmdr’s quarters/office, “Yes but it is my responsibility to see that such an event is not repeated.” Talons said once they were inside. He turned on the Lt then and stared him down. “Do you think it would be better if they were dead?”

Myers stared back and smirked, “Well some of them feel that way now, but they will get over it I guess.”

Talon growled slightly and turned and headed into the washroom leaving Myers in the office area while he showered quickly. He came out in a fresh uniform with his Phaser in a low holster which wasn’t exactly regulation being cut low and more open than usual. It made it easier and faster for the Lyrans large clawed hands to draw and use the weapon.

“You still here?” He said seeing Myers sitting in the chair waiting on him.

“Where else would I go?”

“Someplace where you are not bothering me, Lt.” Talon growled as he sat at his desk and pulls up the display.

Myers rose and shrugged, “Well come eat with me, I havent had lunch yet and I promise I wont mention the drills anymore.”

Talon eyed him suspiciously and turning off the display he rose, “Alright, I am hungry, lets go.”

As they left the room headed for the turbo lift, Myers chuckled, “Me too.” After a slight pause he added, “So no more simulations for while then right?”

The Lyran only rumbled slightly.

The ranger’s keen eyes saw the creatures as they rode closer, just before they came into view he drew his scimitars holding one in each hand.

“I don’t think these guys are friendly.”

They stop about 50 yards from the party in a sudden swirl of dust and stand there looking at the group as the dust settles. One takes a step forward and glares at the group, a look of what appears to be a contemptuous sneer upon it’s lipless mouth. A strange echoing laugh erupts from it’s mouth. “These are the ones the Master fears?” it says in a deep baratone voice filled with disbelief, “Surely they are no threat to him they are so puny.”

The four creatures laugh and stamp around swinging their blades slightly as they appear to be readying themselves to attack the group.

Seeing that they are apparently about to get charged by this creatures, Riddle moves over a little to get some fighting room, noticing that all the others are spreading out as well. Don’t want to get in each other’s way.

He crouches slightly as he waits silently, scimitars at the ready. From this position he hopes to make a sweeping attack to the legs of these creatures as they come at them. Being as large as they are he doubts they can maneuver very well.

(OOC: Posting for the Ranger since syanide can no longer play him.)

Seeing Varuna push the man over the parapet, broke through her misery, however, and she sprang forward to catch at the rope, not realizing Varuna’s intent to scare rather than to kill.

“No!” she cried, “We cannot do this. We will not sink to their level! Remember your vows to the Goddess, Varuna!”

Ena’Aranthea’s words sink in as she grabs the rope to help him hold the man from falling. He looks at her, tears streaming down his face at the despair that has gripped him and he nods as he feels his Goddess presence inside him, “You are right! Even for someone as low as this one it is not within my right to take his life.”

He begins to haul the man back in with Ena’Aranthea’s help and drags him up roughly and drops him on the ledge as he pants from the exertion. He retrieves his mace and leans over the crying pirate as the man lays there whimpering thanks to them for his life, “If you want to thank someone, Thank Lysora, the Sacred Mother of Us All for it was her hand that stopped me from killing you just now.”

Varuna stepped back out of reach and sat down with his back to the lighthouse as he watched the man. He tried to calm his own emotions and silently prayed to the Sacred Mother to forgive him his moments of transgression. He had wanted to kill the man just now, it went against all his beliefs but in the end it was the love of his Goddess that stayed his hand.

He looked up to the Elvin Bladesinger and said, “Perhaps someone else should watch over our captive so he does not come to further harm.” he smiled slightly, “I fear my patience with him is near it’s end.”

When he calmed himself he would rise and look over at the Pirates fortifications and ask the others, “Well, how do we drive out those vermin?” He sounded as if he wanted revenge for what had transpired here, retribution for the lives that had been needlessly taken.

(OOC: Have adjusted previous post and added this one to fit in Ena’Aranthea’s actions. The results are the same either way. )

No problem.. that will work.. Silawen

I have been informed that syanide is leaving and so I will take over his character for the time being. I might post in the recruitment thread to see if we can get someone else to take it over eventually.

Silawen - The potential attackers are 50 yards away and they have not yet moved closer, except for the one who spoke and he moved only a yard or two at most.

Color Spray has a 15ft. Range. Rather than let your spell fall useless I will allow it to be cast at the creatures if they move within range, otherwise I will assume the spell was not used.

If you wish to handle it some other way or to edit your post, let me know.

Varuna trudged across the dunes prodding their captive in the back with his pace every time the man slowed. Seeing the lighthouse and the pirates fortifications in the distance he tugged on the man’s guide rope and pressed his mace more firmly into his back, “Don’t think to cry out to your friends, they are far too distant and it isn’t worth the headache you would receive for trying,” he grinned.

As the group entered the lighthouse, Varuna steeled himself for what he feared might be a gruesome scene, but as they went further and higher into the lighthouse it was far worse then he had imagined.

There is a sitting room, with two comfortable chairs and a small bag full of knitting supplies on the ground. Lastly, you discover the master bedroom. A double bed dominates this room, and a wardrobe stands open and empty. A night table lies on its side, and clothes are strewn everywhere. The smell of death hangs heavy in the air - due obviously to the body of a woman that lies in the corner of the room. A large, dark brown stain covers the ground under the body.

Still more stairs lead up, to another floor. The first room you discover is an empty storage room (nothing inside but broken crates). Next is a playroom, with wooden toys scattered on the ground. Also are two heartbreaking discoveries - two children's bedrooms, each also heavy with the scent of death. Much like the master bedroom below, the wardorbes are emptied of their clothing (which lies scattered across the floor), and both contain rotting bodies. The younger child (perhaps six years of age) lies dead among scattered toys, the older (perhaps twelve) beneath a pile of his own clothing.

As the carnage worsened he involuntarily tightened his grip on the captive pirate till the man was wincing in pain, “Easy mate.” the man finally said. It would have been better if the man had remained silent. At his words Varuna seemed to snap out of his astonishment, he whirled on the man and grabbed him by the collar and drew him tightly to him till he was nose to nose with him, “What are you people? Who would do such a thing to a woman and her children?”

The pirate shrugged, “Nothing personal mate, just business.”

Varuna snarled at him, “Business? Let me show you what it is like.” He roughly hauled the man up the final flight of stairs, practically dragging him till they reached the top level. He pulled him out onto the parapet and dragged him to the edge and stopped holding him against the old railing as he set his mace down.

“Vermin such as you are not human, “ Varuna said in barely checked rage, “you slaughter others like animals and so you should be treated like diseased animals and put to death.” With his last words he shoved the guy over the railing but as the man screamed out as he fell, Varuna held on to the rope still bound tightly to the captive. He held on as the man dangled only a few feet over the 60 foot drop to the ground. “Do you like that feeling? Do you like knowing that you are about to die?” he yelled over the edge as he strained to hold the man. “This is what your victims feel right before you slaughter them, not a nice feeling is it?”

The man screams from the pain of the rope biting into him and the thought that he is about to plummet to his death. Varuna holds him there for a few long seconds, struggling against his desire to let the man fall to his death and his beliefs in not taking a life.

USS Charon - Space Dock DS9 - 1900hrs

Lt. Brennan and Ensign Toliver relaxed at the controls of the weapons console and almost collapsed in their chairs. “Man, this is crazy!” exclaimed Ensign Toliver, “he cant have us doing this all night!”

Lt. Brennan sighed his reply and began to reset his panel for another battle simulation, “He can and he will,” the Lt added, “until he is satisfied with our performance.”

“But we have been running constant simulations for 9 hours now,” he Ensign complained, “he cant keep this up.. It’s not humane.”

The Lt chuckled, “Well if you haven’t noticed he isn’t human so…” Leaving his statement unfinished and he tended to his controls.

The Ensign however did not touch his control panel but only continued to complain even more strenuously, “The Captain cant know of this.. Otherwise he wouldn’t let him punish us for this.. I mean it wasn’t our fault…”

He was talking so loud at this point that he failed to hear the door swoosh open behind him and a large shadow enter the room, the Ensign stopped talking as he heard a faint growl only a split second before he was grasped suddenly from behind and hoisted up out of his chair as if he weighed no more than a small child.

Lt. Brennan only turned his head to look as his work companion was pinned to the wall and held two feet off the ground by a large muscular arm covered in fine velvety brown fur. As the Ensign cried out in shock, a snarling feline face thrust itself only an inch from his own. Seeing who held him and the murderous look in the cold yellow slit eyes the Ensign tried to open his mouth to say something but a thunderous growl cut off any reply.

“You Dare to question my orders, Ensign?” The creature holding him asked in a deep baritone voice that rumbled deep from it’s chest.

“Ah.. No.. ah.. Sir… I was ah.. just…” The Ensign stuttered.

“I heard what you said and I would like to hear your thoughts on exactly ‘who’ is to blame from our failure in the last mission.” The beast growled.

“Ah.. Sir! I was just telling.. Ah.. the Lt. here .. that it was obviously ‘our’ fault because we reacted too slowly to your commands.” Ensign Toliver said sounding like a man pleading for his life.

Lt. Brennan smiled slightly and turned back to reset his weapons panel for the next simulation. He knew it was best to stay out of this if possible.

The creature chuckled showing his razor-sharp teeth filling his mouth, teeth designed to rend flesh, “I see!… well you best get back to your station because I am sure you agree that you can benefit from another hour of battle simulations to get it right!”

The beast dropped the Ensign where the frightened man slipped all the way to the floor landing on his behind. He quickly scrambled to his feet and stuttered, “Yes Sir, Lt. Cmdr.”

As the Ensign returned to his station for another hour of drills, Lt. Cmdr Talon grinned and left the room. He strode down the hallway a looming figure who towered over most of the crew of the USS Charon; crew who quickly got out of the way of the Lyran Chief Tactical/Security Officer. They could see that he was in a foul mood stemming from what he saw as a failure in the last battle with the Dominion. The crew knew his foul moods were never good ones for anyone who got in his way; the only one who was probably in an even more fouler mood was the Captain. The ship had taken a beating and had limped back to DS9 for repairs.

Lt. Cmdr. Talon obviously felt the battle had not gone well and while the ship was in Space Dock repairing the battle damage, he had all the personnel in Tactical working overtime doing repairs and running combat simulations to correct their slow response which was obviously to blame for their defeat. Defeat was how he saw it, sure they had survived and made it back but they had limped back like a whipped cat and that didn’t sit well with him at all.

If this had been a Lyran ship he would have gutted those he felt responsible for the failure, but this was Star Fleet and he had to abide by regulations. Even his little rough handling of Ensign Toliver might have been considered excessive but by now the crew knew that a display like that was about as ‘tame’ as the Lyran was likely to get.

Early in his career in Star Fleet he had simply backhanded a underling who had not responded fast enough to his orders. The man had been flung several feet to smash against a bulkhead and had broken several ribs, an arm and received a concussion as well. He had been officially reprimanded for that action. Humans were just too soft when it came to physical combat.

It actually made sparring a big problem for him, he had only encountered a few humans who were capable of engaging in mock combat and surviving relatively unscathed. Most humans were afraid of him; oh they followed his orders quickly enough but he didn’t have what he would consider friends among the crew.

The senior officers were the closest thing and that was only because they didn’t fear him but were his equals or, in the case of the Captain and XO, his superiors. But Lt. Cmdr. Talon wasn’t aboard the Charon to make friends, he was here to serve and do the best job he could in preparing this ship for battle, and he would do that job and die trying if necessary.

His thoughts were interrupted as he stepped into the turbo lift and told it to go to the Brig. He soon stepped out on Deck 5, the brig and strode into his office/quarters. The room was very spartan in appearance, a Lyran ker’nac sword hanging from one wall was the only decoration. The office contained a work area, a personal view screen, a computer display, a replicator, a washroom/head and a single bed and wardrobe were crammed into one corner. Talon had been offered the usual quarters for an officer of his rank, but he had thought it too elaborate and soft so they had installed a bed and wardrobe for his uniforms in his office.

He sat at the computer terminal and called up the latest combat simulations on his display. He nodded, there was a 99.7% efficiency rating on the last run, satisfactory for now. He tapped the comm badge on his chest, “Tactical… this is Lt. Cmdr Talon.. Stand down from battle simulations…” he started to hit it again to end his transmission to his personnel but he paused and considered then added, “.. well done!” He tapped his comm badge and shook his head with a groan. These humans were so different from his people, they seemed to respond better to statements of praise then they did to threats or violence. So very strange!

Talon spent a couple hours going over the battles reports again and again looking on how and where they would have to still improve until they were as close to 100% as possible. He was determined that the next time they went into battle there would be no hesitation, no mistakes from anyone in his command. He would let the Captain worry about the faults of the other departments.

It was late when he retired for the night to his bed, figures from the days drills still running in his head, thinking up new simulations up until the moment he finally drifted off to sleep

Topic: Star Trek: Operation:Persephone - Q&A
Subject: Charon Chief Tactical/Security Officer

FYI - I only post this after it has been approved by both the DM (Eol) and the Captain of the Charon (Brom).
___________

Lt. Cmdr Talon - Chief Tactical/Security Officer - USS Charon NCC 79358

Lieutenant Commander Talon
Player: YeOlde
Current Assignment: Chief Tactical/Security Officer - USS Charon NCC-79358
Race: Lyran
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 220lbs
Eyes: Yellow with black vertical slits
Fur: Brown
Bio: Lt. Cmdr. Talon, named so since his Lyran name is unpronounceable by most other races, is one of only a handful of Lyrans who are part of the Federation. Talon’s family belongs to the Lyran Democratic Republic (LDR) who rebelled against the Lyran Star Empire because they were enamored by the Federation’s egalitarian ideals. The LDR was quickly recognized by the Federation in the hope that the ideals would spread throughout the Lyran Empire.

After two years of internal war, with the Imperial government unable to put down the rebel faction, the Lyran Emperor granted the LDR autonomy over it’s small Duchy as long as it retained fealty to the Empire. The LDR opened peaceful talks with the Federation in an attempt to strengthen their government and ensure their position would not be undermined by the Empire.

The arrival of the Borg was met with disbelief by the Empire and the LDR. With permission of the Federation, an LDR Tiger Heavy cruiser named “Blood Wounds” (best translation) was sent to ‘observe’ the battle of Wolf 359. When the Commander of the LDR cruiser, Talon’s father, saw the Federation ships being easily destroyed by the Borg, they switched from ‘observing’ to ‘battle’ mode and attempted to help the Federation in the hopeless battle. The LDR cruiser was destroyed along with all the Federation ships at Wolf 359. Fortunately for the Lyrans, the Borg were stopped before reaching their sector of space.

Because of the sacrifice the LDR cruiser personnel, the Federation looked more favorably upon relations with the LDR from that moment on. So when the son of the LDR cruiser’s Commander, Talon, requested to join Star Fleet it was allowed as an experimental gesture of good will.

Relations between the Federation and the LDR continue to improve; during the Dominion offensive a small LDR fleet was sent through Klingon space and engaged the Dominion twice in Klingon territory and once in Federation space.

Talon went to the Star Fleet Academy and being a true Lyran took up a career in Tactics and Security. His prior military experience with the LDR Navy allowed him to enter service as a higher rank than most cadets, therefore his quick rise to his current rank of Lt. Cmdr. He has served on two others ships in Tac/Sec prior to being stationed at his current assignment, the USS Charon as it’s Chief Tactical/Security Officer. Lt. Cmdr. Talon has been with Star Fleet now for 8 years and has served aboard the Charon for the past 2 years.

Lt. Cmdr. Talon’s size, strength, fearlessness and often frightening demeanor usually intimidate most humans and other smaller, less threatening species. He takes his job very seriously and considers it an honor to be serving aboard the Charon, but his Lyran feline traits often cause conflict and arguments with other officers and crew. His tendency to voice his opinions, wanted or not, often have him at odds with the Captain and Executive Officer of the Charon but he is ultimately loyal and has proven himself as a very competent Chief Tactical/Security Officer who is able to handle both offices equally well.

Skills:
Tactical: Ships weaponry - Phasers (all), Torpedos (all), and Deflector systems. He is also trained in all manner of Lyran ships weaponry (Phasers, Disruptors, ESG, Etc.). Combat Ship Tactics.

Security: Hand Phasers (all Types), Disruptors, Hand to hand combat, Bladed combat (Various), Zero G Combat. Ground Combat Tactics.

Traits:
Likes: Fighting; Gambling, games like Dabo and Dom-jot; and drinking but never to excess because he has a high tolerance for alcohol.

Dislikes: Kzinti, natural enemies though they are obviously similar related species, Losing; fighting or gambling; He has never lost in personal combat yet, but in gambling he is not so lucky. While he doesn’t cheat he has been known to severely injure those that he catches cheating him, hence the fighting.

As most of the party discusses what to do next, Silawen and Riddle look upon the wagon trail heading through the grassland. Again the Ranger’s keen vision spots something in the distance to the ‘North’ a faint plume of dust moving in their direction. It is distant still but it does seem to be headed towards them. Silawen sees the dust shortly after the Ranger.

In minutes, any who watch the dust can see that it moves closer and it appears to be a rider or riders moving fast directly for them.

Several minutes later the riders can be seen as they start up the rise towards the camp and what they see is something they have never dreamt of before.

A group of four creatures ride up the hill and spread out into a line running West to East. These beasts have four legs much like the groups horses but the lower body and legs are twice the size of a heavy warhorse. In place of a horses head is a muscular humanoid torso bearing four arms and a head. Each of the arms carry a long blade, almost as long as Billy’s great sword, but with a jagged edge. The head is the strangest part of the creature, it is triangular is shape, almost like a blacksmith’s anvil, with large insectoid eyes and a gaping maw filled with gleaming teeth at the tip. The creatures entire bodies are a stone gray from hoof to the tip of their strange head. Their hooves hammer the ground and throw great clods of dirt in the air as they approach.

They stop about 50 yards from the party in a sudden swirl of dust and stand there looking at the group as the dust settles.
