Emmett’s Bar, Beylix, Newhouse – 12:05 am

Dason wanted to be quick, not give this Bowman fella a chance to get to his guns. He pulled the hammer back while it was still in his pocket, planning to quickdraw and fire in the same motion. But the gorram guy was faster than Buddha’s little pony and had a gun in his hand in a blur. Dason panicked and tried to draw and fire but he pulls the trigger while it is in his pocket and the hammer fouls on the material of pocket.

Andrew saw the butt of the gun in the man’s hand as he attempted to draw on him. His reflexes took over and he double tapped two rounds at his assailant and then threw himself to the floor in case the mans lived and fired back.

But Dason didn’t have the chance. Both bullets hit him through the heart. He arched backwards and fell to floor, dead before his head him the ground. The gun, still trapped in his pocket.

Andrew Bowman had spotted the butt of a gun in the man's hand as he tried to draw it from his pocket, he must have tried to draw it after cocking it. Amateur! He had apparently snagged the gun on his pocket and was having trouble drawing it. He saw all this as his chair, with him in it, tipped backwards as he looked back over his head at the attempted assassin.

He skill was such that he could fire off a double tap into the gunman's chest while he was upside down to the target before he fell to the floor. As he hit he rolled our of his chair to his right and came up on one knee his gun still trained on the gunman in case further shots were required. He relaxed and lowered his gun slightly as he watched the gunman hit the floor apparently dead.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!” Screamed the barmaid in hysterics. She looked at the dead man, back to Andrew and screamed again as she peeled out of the bar screaming murder at the top of her lungs. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!”

“Gorram it! You shot him!” Darryl said in disbelief his own guns out and trained on Andrew, “He didn’t even have a gun!”

“That was murder mister! Sheriff’s gonna hang you!” Doug added. He hadn’t drawn yet but his hand was on his gun

Andrew slowly rose to his feet and very slowly holstered the gun as he kept his eyes on the Darryl and Doug, but before he could say anything to them the other guy, Bobbie, spoke up.

Bobbie shook his head, “Hold on boys. I heard a hammer cock. I’m sure of it.” as he got up and walked over to the body. “It’s in his pocket! It’s a gorram peashooter, but he’s got a gun.”

"I heard the hammer as well," Andrew said as he relaxed at the more friendly turn of events, "I dont know who he was after but he came to kill someone."

Walking over to the dead body he looked at him and shook his head. (Assuming he doesn't know Dason) "I don't recognize him, do any of you?" He said as he turned back to them.

A shotgun is pumped behind Andrew and the men just as a man comes into the bar with a colt in hand and a bemused look on his face. Both of these newcomers wear a silver star denoting them as the law in these parts, the colt bearing man’s star says sheriff.

“Well, what do we have here?” The man drawls with an accent (John Cleese in Silverado). He looks over all of the men in the bar until his eyes fall on Andrew. “So what’s your story?”

Hearing the shotgun rack and seeing a man walk in with a Colt in his hand, Andrew keeps his hands away from his guns so as not to escalate an already bad situation. He thought he would be lucky to get out of this one without further trouble; for some reason he just didn't have much luck when it came to dealing with the law.

"Howdy Sheriff!" Andrew said as he gestured to the dead man on the floor, "This man came in here with a gun and attempted to shoot someone here and regretfully I shot him dead. As for me, my name is Andrew Bowman, I came in on a freighter today and I'm just looking for work." The Sheriff couldn't help but notice the lack of drawl in the man's voice, he sounded more like a very educated man, a man from the core.

Location: Under the Grey Mountains
Date/Time: Day Nine – Afternoon

Meanwhile, Riddle followed the creature that had ran and found that he didn’t have to track it really since the way was along a single passage. He ran rapidly and soon came out of the passage and into a small cavern with only one other entrance, there he came to a sudden halt as he saw the object of his chase.

Across the cavern by the other entrance was a group of about a dozen of those creatures, one gesturing wildly and pointed towards the passage he had just exited. The creatures turned and seeing Riddle they all roared loudly and began to run towards him.

Riddle qiuickly looks around for anything he could do to give hinmself more time. After searching he decides to run. Realizing running back the way he came would only cause more problems. Riddle looks for another way out.

Riddle didnt see anything that would give him more time to think with the dozen creatures bearing down upon him, so he ran; not the way he had come but he saw another passage near the one he entered this cavern from and down it he ran.

He could hear the cries of the creatures as they raced after him, the passage he fled down was sloping downward at an angle that even the Ranger could easily tell. He ran for several minutes until he came to a branch in the passage; without thinking he took the right passage and continued to run. After a couple minutes he could hear the noise of pursuit behind him was lessening; he stopped and listened and heard the yelling of the creatures fading away. Apparently they had went down the wrong passage. He didnt know how long he had till they might realized their mistake and came back to his passage.

He had little choice and so he continued his way down this passage into what he didnt know; luckily the glowing moss was still present and dimly lighting his way.

_____________________________

So with their party at the moment reduced to just Billy, Alea, and Thor along with two of the dwarfs sent to show them the way Thon and his friend. Thor turns to the party.
“Well friends looks like things are getting rather sticky, with Siliwen. Gone over the cliff and now Riddle separated from us by the gap in the path it is up to us to continue on. Thon, do you know the rest of the way we need to go to reach our original goal?”

“I have an idea where we should be going,” Thon replied, “though I am not positive. Without the lass’s strange ring pointing the way, we might not find the object we seek.

"We could try moving downward," said Alea, "May.....be Silwen survived the fall, and is down there alone and hurt."She is the reason we were going this way, to get the artifact. She was the only one to have the pointer and the magics to deal with the thing. I would like finding her would be the most inportant thing we sould do."

This stops Thor at once when he realizes she is correct, Silwen was the only one who could track and possibly handle the artifact they where after. You may have a valid point Alea , however do we have the luxury of enough time to mount a search before we must be at the artifact and try to destroy it. Turning to the dwarf leader “Thon what is our timetable with the battle presumable raging above us can we take the time to look for Silwen, or do you think we have no choice and without her we are doomed to fail. The choices we make here and now could impact this world for many millennia to come.”

Thon shrugs, “Hard to say about how much time we have, but we do need the battle to happen if we are to draw away as much of these creatures as possible so we can reach our objective.”

Thor concludes, “I will throw in my last two cents on the matter, we know we can't go back as we also know Siliwen has fallen deeper into the cave complex, so if neighter of the two exits lead down our choice is probably made for us so as we contemplate this let us move to and explore the two exits for our choice may be already made for us. and with this Thor moves to the exit that is on the right of where they stand and using his best dwarven knowledge tries to discern if the passage is moving up or down into the cavern.

Any dwarf can easily tell that the passage on the left slopes downward while the one on the right heads upward it seems. With a seeming unanimous decision to go on without Sil and hope she meets up with them, the group now only has to decide which passage will lead them to their objective.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
(OOC: Ok, A short start but not much I can do at this point without a decision from the group. I havent heard from Syanide yet so I will run Riddle for now, or until his luck runs out. No rush on the posts, I probably wont get to post again this week, so lets say a new posting deadline of Every Monday Morning. Hope that works. So lets continue this as you are getting closer to the end now and if all goes well you will be ‘finished’ here in a month or so… oh.. did I say ‘finished’? I didn’t mean anything by that.. or did I? )
Thanks for the welcome back... things were bad for awhile but not 'too bad' .. I am back after all!
Tann - No hard feelings about finding someone else to play Kenji... I completely understand and would have done the same thing... it is not a problem.
Brom - My time online is limited now... and I dont want to take on more than I can handle... I have to decide which adventures I want to continue and which ones I have to drop.. right now I think Embodiment will be one of the ones I cant continue at this time... reason being is that my character was just getting started and not yet a pivotal role in the adventure... it was looking to be a wonderful adventure but I dont think I can commit to that character at the time and do it justice.
If in the future, you do start another Punk adventure... let me know... MDk is still looking for work and hopefully by then things will have improved and I will be able to commit further. Thanks!
I do know that I will be continuing Garayon and I will be playing in the Rocinante adventure... love that Firefly, but I am still deciding on any others. I will keep the players and DMs informed.
Thanks! Cya!
It was a serene and peaceful night; the moon had not yet crested the horizon but the burning stars filling the night sky provided plenty of light to delve deep into the shadows of the forest below.
The forest was silent except for the call of the insects; the other creatures had all settled in for the night, sleeping peacefully in their momentarily carefree world. Tomorrow would once again bring the inevitable struggle for survival, but for now all was forgotten in the serenity of the night.
Suddenly the ground shook violently, the insects went silent but the other denizens of the forest awakened at the roaring that was growing in the night. The ground rumbled and all could hear roaring growing closer, animals began to burst from their beddings and run through the forest. Rabbits ran next to great cats that would normally make a meal of the small furry creatures, but for now all that was forgotten in the terror of the moment.
The light in the forest grew brighter and redder as a large object burning with fire streaked down from the heavens. The strange object made a strange hissing noise as it plummeted to the ground striking with such great force that trees and dirt were tossed high into the air in a flash of fire.
When the dust settled, some of the woods were ablaze with small fires and a large crater sat at the center of the impact zone. A faint pulsating glow emanated from the crater for a few minutes; slowly some inquisitive animals crept slowly closer to the pit wondering what it was that had invaded their domain.
The glow faded suddenly to nothing and a faint hissing was heard; some animals nearby froze at the sound, others retreated completely. Slowly something rose from the crater; it was a hand, human in appearance, attached to an arm which rose up and then came down on the lip of the pit. Long fingers dug into the soft ground as it pulled itself up and another hand joined the first. With a heave something pulled itself from the crater and slowly stood upon the pit’s edge.
The nearby animals were frozen in fear at the sight of a man, for they sensed he was no ordinary man. Standing upon the edge of the pit the man looked about surveying what was now his domain; he smiled with a slightly evil twist to his lips.
“I have returned!” He said his voice holding a faint tone of malice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Ok… it is official that I am returning to RDI. I am sorry for my sudden and long absence but RL circumstances demanded it. But now I intend to return and do some RPing and some DMing.

I will continue with the Garayon Adventure if the players are still game. I would like to hear from all of them to gauge their interest.

But due to a lessening of my available free time, I will not be able to participate in all of the adventures in which I was playing, though I see that some of them are no longer running. I am glad to see that MDK made it out alive, though just barely.

I will look over the adventures and see which ones I will continue to play, but unfortunately I can’t play as many as before.

I don’t expect to start any RPing this week, though next week looks promising. I have a lot of reading to do to get caught up on some adventures still running; though I see I have been replaced in some of them, I do not blame anyone for that, it is only natural and understandable.

Well hope to stay awhile this time. I have missed the RDI and am glad to be back!)

Vatta takes her wine and moves to the tables that were put together for the entire group plus the two newcomers, Justin and Alexandria. She nods in greeting when Lorae introduces her. She sits down giving a little smile to the Sgt of the Riders making it appear that there was no harm done; inside though she still harbored pity for people such as him.

She waved away any offer of food, “I have already dined,” she said in her soft unassuming way. Her soft voice often led others to believe she was weak and timid, but it was all the façade she put on to keep people off guard.

She sipped at her wine letting others talk as she took in all around her; it was her nature to observe and learn, it had saved her life many times. She would address anything said directly to her; otherwise she sipped her Elvin wine and watched.

Subject: Davian

Davian gets some rest but once night falls he gathers his things and readies the mount he had picked out for himself; something suitable to carry his large frame. As he prepared the horse and pack, he talked aloud to the others.

“I think it is clear that we have little choice in direction,” he said, “it seems these ruins that Webb has spotted will offer shelter and the pyramid in the distance is closer than anything else. Maybe we can find people there that might tell us where we are, though unlikely.” He doubted it would be that easy here in the Desert of Desolation; surely it’s name was rightly earned.

As they began to strike the tents and pack them away, the ground began to shake. By habit, Davian snatched up his shield and spear and stood ready as the ground rumbled. He took a step back as the ground burst open and a giant purple worm oozed from the ground threatening the horses.

“Purple Worm,” he yelled as he started towards the creature, “ware the mouth and the stinger.” He recognized the giant creature from a previous encounter with one in the Prelacy of Almor; he also remembered poor Simstal the Slippery, a rogue, who became that beast’s meal before they could dispatch it.

Taking aim, Davian drew his large boar spear back behind his shoulder and putting all of his massive strength into it, he cast the spear in the direction of the creatures gaping maw. The spear had barely left his hand before he snatched his battle axe off of his belt and continued to charge at the beast moving towards the side, just short of the head, swinging his battleaxe.

“HEIRONEOUS TAKE YOU!” He cried a battle cry as he charged.

As Sna’kti approached the door he pauses with his hand grasping the door handle, he sniffed the air at a sudden strange scent; wet wool and leather. He glanced around at the door and his keen eyes picked out the sign of wet footprints just in front of his door. He let go of the handle and took a step back and crouched down; the water had puddled here as if someone had stood here for a moment, most of the water had already soaked into the old wood. Not seeing the wet prints leave he had to assume they had gone into his room.

Rising from his crouch, a faint growl in his throat, he reached for the handle, unlocked his door and then flung the door open as he let out a growl that usually put fear into most opponents. His keen eyes took in the room in an instant and the growl died in his throat and his eyes fairly bulged from their sockets.

Sitting on the bed, his back against the wall, a roguish grin on his face, sat Gen Menbren, exiled Prince of Pardinal. “Is that any way to greet an old friend?” he asked still grinning.

Sna’kti leaped into the room and snatched the man up off of the bed and lifted him up in his arms, “You dodgy twit, I could have killed you!” false anger in his voice. Laughing, he lowered the guy and hugged him tight to his sopping wet fur.

Just wanted to point out.. the wide gap in the ledge is back at the one by the waterfall. You are beyond that and have gone down a passageway and out of earshot of the falls completely.

Billy, Thor and Alea will only know of the gap behind them when told by Thon. This gap only provides a problem for Riddle or the party if they have to go back that way.

MDK was surprised as he made his way back up to the main floor without any sign of guards. When he came out of the stairwell and saw Firewind and Lightning ahead of him he slowed so as to not startle them. Listening he heard the automatic gunfire outside, large caliber fire; miniguns perhaps.

“Well boys,” he said softly as he came up to them and stopped, “sounds like help may have finally arrived.”

He gestured for one of them to keep an eye on their rear as he stepped into the entrance and then over to the doorway outside and using the doorframe as covered he peered out to see what was going on outside. He saw the circling AV-4s and hoped they were on their side. In any case, they would provide for a distraction that might just get them out of here.

MDK turned to Firewind and Lightning and motioned them over to the doorway, as he did his eye happened to catch sight of one of the security cameras. Suddenly he remembered the netrunner and gestured to the camera and then his eye; he hoped the runner was still online and could relay information to his marquee display in his optics so he could let them know what was going on.

(OOC: Dont know if he could see the AV-4 on the ground from there.)

"Thor, we have to go. The real battle is still ahead." Billy yelled

"He's right we must use whatever time they can give us to get away." Alea seconded.

Turning toface Billy Thor pulls the big man down so he can yell into his ear,

Billy stay with Alea and start moving up the path as the dwarfs told us to I won't be to far behind I am going to give them at least a little bit of long distance help and if those things get past the dwarfs rather fast someone needs to give you some time to escape, don't worry I have no death wish and will join you shortly no go.

Billy nods in agreement at Thor's words then turns to leave. As soon as Thor turns to stringing his crossbow, Billy attempts to grab him in a big bear hug, lifting his well off his feet.

"Sorry Thor, but we all have to go now." he yells in his ear and begins to run after Alea with the dwarf still clutched tight in his arms.

Billy did indeed take Thor by surprise and scooped him up in his big arms from behind. Thor was so surprised at first that he didn’t resist but just held on to his crossbow which he hadn’t even had time to fire. But after a few seconds he began to struggle and yell at Billy to put him down.

As Billy, Thor (not by choice) and Alea fled up the ledge towards the waterfall, Thon and the other dwarf held their position afraid to move forward lest th ledge give way.

The creatures began to advance again on the two dwarfs; they moved onto the cracked ledge and surprisingly their weight didn’t cause any further cracking.

Thon saw this and gestured to the other dwarf and then began to inch his way backwards, the other dwarf raised his axe and paused watching the advancing creatures. After a few seconds he brought the flat of the blade down hard on the ledge with a solid blow. The cracking started to spread again at a rapid pace; Thon and the dwarf turned to run as the ledge fissured and began to slide away into the ravine.

The two creatures paused and one spread out his arms and seemed to be incanting something; it’s hands started glowing and the slide miraculously stopped and held in mid fall. Thon and the dwarf managed to reach the safe part of the ledge and turned to see the two creatures still standing there. The other creature started to move across the slide as the one appeared to be holding it from further sliding.

Thon pulled out a small hand axe and after taking a moment to gauge the distance, he threw the axe with all his strength.

The axe sailed across the expanse and buried itself in the chest of the creature holding the slide, it staggered back and it’s concentration broken the slide resumed it’s progression. Silently a large section of the ledge completely fractured and slide off into the ravine taking the two creatures with it. Thon and his partner turned and ran after the group.

Alea, Billy and Thor, had run along the ledge to the waterfall and found that behind the waterfall was a passage. Heading through the passage they found they were heading slightly upwards. After a couple of minutes, they left the roar of the falls behind them and came into a small cavern with two other exits. As they paused to decide which of the other two exits might be the one they needed, Thon and the other dwarf caught up to them there and told them what had happened behind them.

They realized that Riddle had been on other side of the collapse and would find it hard if not impossible to cross the wide gap (~50’) that now spanned the ledge between the cliff face and the ravine.

(Ok, NPNS, unless everyone happens to post again so quickly )

As the two creatures advanced slowly on the group, Riddle tried to dart past them with the intent to chase after the lone creature who had obviously went in search of more help. As he ran towards them and went to dart past them, one of them took a swipe at him but Riddle was swift enough to get past the thing unharmed and he darted up the passage back the way they had come.

The creature looked like it was going to chase after the Ranger but the other creature gestured for it to join him in harassing the rest of the group. They turned and continued to advance on the remaining party members.

Billy and Thor managed to quickly bring Alea back to the ledge where she saw they were once again under attack; at least this time it was not the Shelnaks again. Thon and the last dwarf advanced on the two creatures as Thon gestured for them to take Alea and flee up the way they had been going before they were attacked.

Thon and his friend charge but prior to them getting within striking distance, the strange creatures both raise their hands above their heads and strike the stone before them with a resounding blow. The ledge shakes and everyone scrambles to maintain their footing as cracks appear in the stone. The strength of these creatures must be phenomenal to cause such damage to solid stone. Both charging dwarves are brought to a halt as the cracking appears to spread around them looking as if that section of the ledge might give way and slide off into the ravine.

As Billy, Thor and Alea stand there deciding whether to flee as Thor told them, the creatures start forward again looking as if they are going to attack the dwarves while they are off balance.

(Decide if you are going to attack or flee. Next post next Sat)

“35 to me huh?” Andrew said as he looked over his cards and considered calling. He had only a slight chance at an inside straight and was thinking about calling the raise and then taking his chances. If he didn’t get card he needed then he could always bluff; he had a great poker face and wasn’t above taking the chance.

He heard the front door open and glanced over his left shoulder and saw a man enter; not recognizing him he turned back to inspecting his cards.

click, click

His eyes snapped up; he recognized that sound, a revolver cocking. Andrew Bowman had survived by not taking chances when the bullets started to fly; that was why he had honed his lightning reflexes and became one of the fastest draws in the Border worlds.

The sound had come from behind him, it had to be the man who just entered. He didn’t know if the man was after him or someone else, but bullets were indiscriminate killers, they didn’t care if they hit the wrong target.

Within half a second of the sound; Andrew had pushed back with his foot tipping his chair backwards as his right hand reached down to his left hip. Drawing his Sound-suppressed Avenger revolver from the cross-draw holster before his chair hit the floor and leveled it at the man that had just entered.

If he saw a gun in the man’s hand, he would fire off a double-tap at the center mass of his target. A faint Phft phft sound as the suppressed revolver bucked was all that was heard by those in the room.

If no gun was present, Andrew would keep the gun leveled at the man waiting to see if the situation deteriorated.
