Location: Wooded Area - Destination: The Grey Mountains
Date/Time: Day Eight - Pre dawn

“Are you the Dwarves of the Grey Mountains?” Alea asks, her melodic way of speaking, even in common, could not be disguised.

Billy woke to the sound of several voices. Instinctively he reached for his sword but saw that the voices belonged to dwarves who seemed to know on eof his companions. "Well if it isn't the lollipop guild" he said with a laugh.

Facing a dwarf who has flaming red hair and beard Thor upon seeing so many of his own kind after being told that they probably did not exist any more sort of forgets that they are at the moment being held at arrow point.
“Why yes I was going to ask you the same thing, is that anyway to greet one of your own kind by trying to break his skull with your ax“. Thor who was actually still holding his own ax will actually make a point of putting it away. “We where told we would find no dwarves here in the mountains I knew that had to be wrong no evil would put us out totally. I'm sorry I'm rambling and being rude My name is Thordinal and these here are my friends, pray tell who might we have here, I do not smell the evil on you that the rest of this place seems to reek of so tell us what has brought you here to seek us out.”

Riddle rolls out of his bedroll, his swords drawn as he comes to his feet at the commotion in the camp, one look at the several heavy crossbows aimed at him cause him to lower his weapons.

The leader of the dwarves smiles slightly at all the questions but they do not drop their guard.

“Yes lass,” the leader says looking at Alea briefly before looking back at Thor, “we are the Dwarves who live in the Grey Mountians.. but we have been driven from our homes and now battle the Dark One’s forces with everything we have.”

“You,” He says looking Thor up and down, “are not one of us.. you are a dwarf without doubt, but you are unfamiliar to us and your accent is strange.”

Seeing Thor put his axe away the leader gestures to the others and axes and crossbows are lowered though kept ready.

“It is this strangeness that has caused us to stop from killing you outright,” he said with a faint smile, “while we do know of humans working for the Dark One there have never been any Dwarf or Elf…” he glanced at Alea and Siliwen, “.. who has been swayed by the dark power.”

“What brings you to this mountain?” he asks in a commanding tone, “speak quickly.. for there are others out here who might stumble across us and spoil our private conversation.”

Tal'Anor snorts in derision at the pirates' lack of discipline. "I suppose they must feel quite fierce when they attack drowning merchants. Look at them now," he spits in disgust. "Drinking and celebrating their murderous plunder!"

He turns to En'Aranthea. "Cousin, let us take them now, while they are stewing in their drink. We will handle them easily, and if the gods are with us, Varuna will not need to salve his conscience over the deaths of these fools. We can take the guard easily, and over power the rest."

Varuna turns to look at Tal and frowns slightly at the comment about his ‘conscience’ then turns back to looking at the guards locations.

“Perhaps,” he whispers in reply. He is not a leader though and as he waits for those skilled in battle to decide what is to be done, he assesses the abilities available to him and silently prays to his Goddess for victory over those who would slaughter innocent women and children.

.. oh unless Capt Gavison countermands Lt. Cmdr Talon's orders regardine the 'securing' of Cerebeus personnel then you can expect heavy security screening as well as medical evaluation.

The Lyran will no doubt focus alot of attention on the Romulans... well.. just because they are Romulans.

Then maybe the Kzinti.. he sounds like a prime suspect.

I am waiting on the Capt Gavison to post so Talon can continue with his 'work'.

Si-DI listened to the Administrator clammor on about his duties and ate very little of the extravagent meal. She came to realize that he had no real power to help in this situation, at least none that she could see at the time. He might be useful in talking to people and getting in where she couldnt alone, but she would wait and see.

This treaty he mentioned between the guilds interested her and she listened intently now to what Namor was saying. She nodded and when he was done and puffing on his Expensive Cigar, her logical mind ran through the options.

"I will need to see this treaty so that I may go over it," She said finally, "it might help me to resolve the situation. I need to know all the facts if I am to help in the negotiations."

"I'm sorry." Ninkanna says aloud, realizing her yawn must've seemed a bit rude, "I really don't understand politics all that much."

After a moment, just realizing Namor would be like Kavtan with his inexperience with Jedi, Ninkanna elaborates, "There are two main types of Jedi. There are the ones who are diplomats, who settle things like this, such as Si-Di, and ones who are guardians, trained to defend, such as me."

Si-Di nodded to Ninkanna's words acknowledging the roles each of them held in this mission. She knew Nin was not really assigned to this mission but Nin's Master had told her to help Si-Di if she could. She was sure Nin was a better warrior than she was, for while she could handle a lightsaber quite well she was not a Guardian, her knowledge tended more towards diplomacy.
"It was stupid for The Guild and The Union to put their trust in that document, they must of known that a river can move even then, it's basic geography. They should have known the deal would benefit one of them or cause conflict."
He stopped just then and put his fork down and wiped his mouth.
"Is it possible there was foul play from the start, from when the document was drawn up. Was it possible to predict how a river might move then?" Kavtan asked

Si-Di nodded to his flurry of statements, "We will have to see this treaty in order to understand why the Guilds accepted it," she stated, "maybe there is something there that we do not yet know."
The door opened once more, and the protocol droid known as JO walked into the room. "JO," Namor said (pronouncing it 'Joe'), a quizzical look on his face, "I didn't send for you..."

"No, sir," the droid said, "But we've received a communique from Coruscant. It is a message from a group identifying itself as the 'Jedi Council'. They're requesting to speak with the two Jedi Knights you were scheduled to meet with. Are the said individuals here?"

"Yes, JO, they're right there," Namor said dismissively. He stood up. "I assume you'll want some privacy." He pointed to a door on the opposite side of the room from the kitchen. "There's a transmitter in the drawing room. I'll patch it through to there on my console."

Si-Di stood and gestured for Ninkanna to follow her, "Thank you Administator Namor." She lead the Jedi Guardian into the drawing room and closed the door.

"I know the Council is probably expecting to speak with my Master and I," she began, "but since you are now part of this mission I would like if you would attend." Turning to the transmitter panel she accepted the communique.

"This is Si-Di!" She stated knowing the Council would know who she was and further introduction is not necessary, "with me is Ninkanna, Padawan to Master Arkana."

(Sorry for the short post.. short on time.. just trying to keep things moving along. )

Wilderness – Northeast of Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 6:30pm

Cocking her head to the side, Jaimy used her left hand to brush some errant hair from her face, its soft blue tip having been faded to black before she’d left the RV.

“You’ve got a complex, Choomba,” she stated in a matter-of-fact tone. “My coming along on this little excursion has little to do with my level of trust for you—though you aren’t too far off. The only reason I trust you at all in this is because Jack sent you.

“I’m not here to babysit, if that’s what you’re getting at,” Peacekeeper pointed in the direction of their objective. “Going at things alone is about as smart as playing Russian Roulette—I’m here to provide back-up, and to make sure that this mission is a success. You haven’t been here from the start, but our very lives depend on this plan working, so forgive me if I don’t waste any more time in a pissing match with a man who is obviously severely…wanting, and get on with this.”

Peacekeeper made good on her word, turning from the black-garbed assassin to start on her way again, pushing past a pine branch to jog briefly across a small clearing and drop behind a scrub oak surrounded by a sort of fern.

MDK smiled behind his mask at her straight forward attitude; as Peacekeeper turned her back to him in a show of defiance and fearlessness, she seemed to know he wasn’t going to attack her; he started after her.

“Just checking,” he said softly, but loud enough she could just make it out, “just so you know, I don’t trust you either!”

As he drew up next to her behind the oak, “But I am glad you came along, I think you’re the only one of the others with the skills we will need to pull this off.”

He started leap-frogging ahead with her, using his own image enhancement optics to keep an eye out for trouble.

Her hand shot out right across MDK’s chest, stopping him from moving into the open. “There,” she whispered, motioning with her head. The image was sharpening under her cybernetics. She dropped her voice even more as she realized that audio enhancement might be a possible threat as well. “It’s about three feet in height—do you see it?”

He saw it, and nodded to her; this was something new to him as well. He zoomed in as much as his optics would allow, on full image enhancement trying to se any details. He shook his head at her question.

“New to me,” he whispered back to her barely audible, “could be a sensor, or some kind of sentry turret… could be anything, but it has a good field of view or fire.. whichever the case may be.”

He scanned the area looking for more of them, now that he knew what to look for. He hated surprises and the MegaCorps had the funds for all manner of research.. weapons research especially.

“We could try going around the clearing,” MDK whispered again, “or … how do you like water?” He asked with a grin, he wasn’t sure, but if the stream was at least a foot deep they might be able to swim or crawl through the rushing water and make it past the ‘thing’.

Even as he said it, he scanned the stream looking for any visible devices that might be guarding the stream itself.

The Charon – Bridge – 12:09 hours

“If I may interject, Captain,” Kato said, turning to Lt. Cmdr. Talon. “I don’t think that the Romulans have a motive for such an act. And if the security on the Cerberus is half as dilligent as you the security you had planned for the Romulans here on the Charon, I doubt that they’d be able to pull off a stunt of such magnitude…” He looked to the Captain once more.

Lt. Cmdr Talon snorted at Kato and grinned slightly as he replied, “You don’t know Romulans well do you? I have fought them for years and let me tell you, the moment you underestimate them, that is when you die.”

(Note: The Charon doesn’t have any Romulans on board.. least I don’t think so. They were to come aboard from the Cerebeus when we rendezvoused with them.)

Lt. Cmdr. Kato 3 was at his computer console, scanning the region of space before them. He addressed Captain Gavison. “The TDG was designed specifically to detect ships with Romulan cloaking devices,” Kato 3 said with a sigh, “I think we can rule out the possibility that the ship was hijacked and cloaked; I’m not getting anything.

Talon kept his eyes on the tactical console, everything was primed and ready. Hearing Kato’s sensor report he snorted slightly, he didn’t think the Romulans would be able to hijack the Cerebeus, he was more interested if they had destroyed it somehow. There weren’t enough of them to take over a vessel but it only took one or two to sabotage a warp core.

“Maybe if I recalibrate the….wait…” Kato 3 leaned in closer at his console. “I’m not getting anything as big as a Starship, but there is something on our long-range sensors. Earlier, it was hard to tell from this range whether it was simply space debris, but I’m picking up something now, very small. If I push the short-range sensors with some of the recalibrations I made to them, we should be able to scan the object with more detail..."

He entered a few commands into the console, the short-range sensors focused in on the object.

"It’s definitely mechanical…smaller than a Runabout...or a shuttle. We’re moving closer into range. I’ve got it…it’s…it’s an… an escape pod,” he said.

The sigh of relief they were all waiting for never arrived – an escape pod could only mean one thing.

“I should have known,” he said. “I’ve been looking for larger vessels in the scans; I’ve been searching for the Cerberus. I’m going to adjust the scans to search for more escape pods…Sir...” Kato paused, a smile on his face. “A distress beacon, emanating from the pod. We just moved into its range.

“It has to be Cerberus crewmen, sir,” he concluded. “At least we’ll find out what happened to them…”

Talon nodded at what seemed to be proof of his assumptions, something had destroyed the Cerebeus and the Romulans were prime suspects, but their was no harm in checking for other vessels in the area. He reached down and activated the Charon’s Tactical Sensors, and had them sweeping the area. The 18 specialized sensors would scan for possible hostile vessels and automatically lock on and report bearings, aspects, distance, etc. These new sensors were the latest in Starfleet Tactical equipment; they were 80% efficient against any Electronic Counter Measures and could operated fairly well in particle flux nebulae (which has been hitherto impossible).

As the sensors scanned the Chief Security Officer activated his comm to his security officer, “Lt. Myers, prepare security details to stand by at all transporter pads and docking ports. We may have survivors from the Cerebeus coming aboard, I want all rescued personnel quarantined until they can be cleared.” Talon waited for the acknowledgement then started to sign off but paused….”And Lt, keep any Romulans you find under guard.”

Signing off he looked up at the Captain, knowing he had to overhear Talon’s orders to his security details. He knew the Captain said to keep an open mind, and he intended to do just that; everyone was a suspect until they knew for sure what caused the loss of the Cerebeus.

(Edit to reflect change in Kato 3s post)

“Captain?” Talon began, “you think it could be the Romulans? Maybe they sabotaged the ship?”

“There is nothing to indicate that the Romulans had anything to do with…this. Hell, there’s nothing indicating what happened.” Captain Gavison replied.

“We go in with our eyes wide open, people. We find out where Mac and his crew are, and we bring them home. Make sure that weapons are fully operational, Talon. Mr. Kato, I want our scanners tested in full. Science is going to likely be performing both long range, and short range scans of various types. The Cerberus has vanished from Starfleet sensors…Whatever caused that will be our responsibility to uncover.”

Talon nodded to the Captains orders, “All weapons systems are functional Captain. When we get there we will be ready for anything.” He added with a tone of finality. The Captain may have an open mind, but the Lyran still distrusted the Romulans and having spent time in battle with the Captain he was sure the same thoughts were running through his head.

The view screen showed the black, emptiness of space with all too much reflection of Kelsey’s insides. Where is she? he wondered as he peered out into the inky blackness. This region of space seemed particularly empty for the lack of the Cerberus.

“Talk to me, people,” Kelsey intoned in a voice that was nearly a growl. “What are the long range scans telling us? Where’s Mac?”

“Phaser systems are charged and ready. Torpedoes loaded and ready. Shields at maximum.” Talon said, waiting on the Science officer’s report on the long range sensors. He didn’t wait for the Captain to tell him to go to Red Alert, he had signaled all tactical crews to ready weapons and stand by. It never hurt to be prepared and ready.

USS Charon - CTOs Office – 22:18 hours

Lt Cmdr Talon was sitting before his terminal looking over the security procedures he was implementing to handle the presence of the Romulans being aboard the ship. He had a security detail assigned and a rotation schedule set, it all looked good to him. He had extra security assigned to key locations throughout the ship. He nodded his approval as he hit the button to finalize it and send it to his junior officers so they could inform their subordinates.

/--\\\\ This is Captain Gavison… Report to your stations. We are leaving berth. I repeat: report to your stations immediately. The Charon will be under way in less than fifteen minutes, or I’ll skin the man holding me up.” /--\\\\

Talon frowned and stood up quickly, this was not good. He strode from the room headed to the turbo lift for the bridge wondering what had happened to make the Captain change plans so suddenly.

Stardate: 2374.09.05
USS Charon - Bridge – 22:19 hours

He stepped out of the turbo lift and stepped to the tactical station dismissing the junior officer there who turned to leave the bridge. He was just in time for the Captain briefing on what was going on.

“Our sister ship in this mission has gone missing, and we’re going to find her,” he began over the intraship communications. “As of 15:17 hours this afternoon, the Cerberus was reported missing. There has been no communication from her, or any of her crew, since. This ship is now in yellow alert and will remain so until further notice.”

Ending his broadcast, Kel looked over his senior staff. “I don’t know what awaits us when we get there, so be on your game.

“Warp six, Lt. Mas’Riat.”

Talon was stunned for a moment, the Cerebeus was out of communication? Something had happened; The Romulans. This was of course his first thought and he had no compunction about speaking his mind.

Mas'Riat nodded once. "Engaging, Captain," she replied

“Captain?” Talon began, “you think it could be the Romulans? Maybe they sabotaged the ship?” All kinds of thoughts raced through his own mind but that one kept coming to the forefront. The ship might be lost, or maybe only damaged, either way he could not rule out the one factor that stood out to him; Romulans are not to be trusted.

(Room for interaction)

"All tactical and weapons stationed standing by sir." Talon reported as he checked his ready board.

As they walked up the main thoroughfare towards the Rhetti Hall, Si-Di took a good look at everything around her. She saw the plight of the workers and the common folks, this only made the opulence of Rhetti Hall even more appalling to her sight. To think that the Administrator live here, in luxury, over looking the spaceport with streets filled with people who could never afford such luxuries if they saved all their lives. She managed to pull back her revulsion and keep it from her countenance as they entered the Hall and were greeted by a protocol droid.

"Greetings," it said, "I am D-1JO. I am instructed to escort you to Administrator Namor. Please come with me."

Si-Di only nodded to the droid and followed it inside; the spacious interior did little to ease her feelings of someone living above the normal commoners as if looking down up them and saying “I am better then them.”

"Welcome, welcome," he said. "I'm sorry, JO is supposed to be programed for ettiquette, but I swear that whoever programmed must have been completely inept at that subject..."

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't be blathering" he continued. "Please come with me, let me show you to the dining room. I want to give our Jedi friends a warm welcome. And you, good sir," (he pointed as Kavtan) "Your name seems to have slipped my mind. Excellent job today."

Si-Di turned from the spacious halls and expensive decorations and bowed slightly to Administrator Namor as he entered. His elegant manner of dress did not please her either, but she kept any of her revulsions from showing in her countenance.

“Thank you Administrator,” she said as she followed him into the dining room where she was sure to be treated to a meal that would feed 2 or 3 times the number of people that would actually be dining here this evening.

“I must say Administrator,” Si-Di said as they walked in to the room, “you do seem to have a very ‘lucrative’ position here. Rhetti Hall is quite… dazzling to behold.” It almost took the force for her to restrain her displeasure from leaking out into her words. He slowly took a deep breath and engaged in a brief Jedi calming technique to maintain her presence.
