Topic: Garayon - Reign of Darkness
Subject: New day dawning...

Location: Unknown
Date/Time: Unknown/Several hours till dawn

As the fire crackled in the night it would cast his light upon the backs of the right hands of all those who showed them to the others and it would reveal the mark that they were told they would there. A small circle with four arrows pointing from it’s center in all four directions. Those that put their hands together to show them noticed something else. When the symbols were close, within a foot of each other, they glowed slightly. The more of them they brought together the brighter they all glowed, yet there was no feeling of warmth from them only a soft light.

When everyone starts talking of sleeping and standing watches they all begin to realize that none of them feel like sleeping. Maybe it is the excitement of the unknown, or maybe they just aren’t tired and can’t sleep.

The night is quiet and other than some crickets you hear nothing but the wind and the waves in the distance. As Alea walked around the camp she found it sat atop a slight rise and gave a good view in most directions. The large body of water, a sea perhaps, stretched away to one side and grasslands in all others. The picket lines for the horses was well set, much as if they had set them up personally.

Setting up her ‘marks’ to follow the stars Alea waits for several minutes studying the movement. The strange star patterns and the two shining unfamiliar moons tell her that they are not on her world anymore. Soon she is able to determine the movement of the stars and if they are in the Northern Hemisphere of the planet then North would be in the direction of the sea. She wont be able to tell for sure until sunrise.

((OOC: If you want to backpost further conversation here then please do so, nothing happens during the rest of the night))
______

Location: Unknown
Date/Time: Unknown/Dawn

It was a cool night but not too uncomfortable. About an hour later the sky starts to lighten to your left if you are facing the Sea. As the new day Dawns they can see more of the surrounding lands from the rise upon which their camp has been set. They see it is a most advantageous location for a camp, resting on the highest spot in the grassland they can see any approach to this camp.

They see only the Sea stretching off beyond sight in what could be the South, if the direction of the sun rise is considered East. To the East and West you see only grass and a few corpses of trees dotted here and there, but to the 'North' the keen eyed Ranger soon spots a faint trail like wagon ruts which head off slightly West of North.

As the sun rises the day begins to warm and it feels like it will be very hot before the sun reaches it's zenith.

Subject: Moons over my hammy

Yes both moons are visible as stated in the second paragraph of the initial post after you awoke in the camp. So all of you that have knowledge of the stars and such would be able to guess that you are someplace other than your own world.

Worshipers of Gods - Do not fear you do not feel cut off from your deity.

None of you will recognize any of the stars, and the two moons might tell you you are on a different world unless the world you were on had two moons and then these would probably look different and vary in size.

So in other words, your Cs can assume you are not in Kansas anymore.

Oh I wasnt planning on posting till my C is complete, and it seems like I have time to research and come up with my C bio and stuff since the Cerebeus is a ways off from rendezvousing with the Charon at DS9. Good I will need all the time I can get for this one.

So it is ok to post in the Cerebeus thread for a crew of the Charon? Still not sure where the game stands for the Charon.

WHere is the Charon now? Is it on DS9?

I dont think I can handle two characters in this game so I will stick with the Charon CTO.

Hmm.. got alot of things to figure out for this one. Should have paid more attention to Star Trek huh? ::

Topic: A Cold Day in Hell
Subject: Friend or Foe?

BACKPOST-

“What are your orders sir”.....

"Make sure we're properly covered while Johannsen patches those two up. Then I think we'll dig in for a few hours and see what strength we can recover. I believe the bunks'll do just fine for that.
Set up the watch schedule, Staff Sergeant. As soon as we're able we'll move out."

“Yes Sir.”

Turning to the rest of the troopers

“Ok two hour watches Hart, Pearson your up first, one to the south, the other north. Lee, Hatherford next, then Johannsen and myself.”

Sgt Lee smiled, at least the Lt knew they should have set up guards, perhaps the Sgt Kane was hurting more from the cold then he showed. In either case, Lee acknowledged the Sgt’s orders and stood down and found one of the bunks for himself and sat down and pulled out an MRE to eat. He hardly noticed the taste as he slowly ate and thought of their situation. Killing Ape-like things, radiation, the strange blue field outside. It didn’t add up yet, obviously they didn’t have all the pieces yet. But he was sure they would soon, hopefully not too late.

After eating he relaxed on the bunk and with his carbine within easy reach he drifted off to sleep in less than a minute, a habit one quickly acquired when they needed to make the best of what short rest they might get. He stood his watch midway through the rest period in silence, standing where he could see Hatherford at all times yet too far for quiet conversation. He wasn’t much for talking while on watch, he liked to listen for trouble before it sprang up and ripped your throat out. When his watch was over he went back to sleep as quickly as before.

PRESENT-

Rising from his rest, he double checked his gear and weapons while the Lt told them of the bloody massacre in the hallway just north of their current location. He took this in silence and only kept his carbine at the ready as he moved out in formation.

As they entered the bloody are he kept his eyes scanning for trouble, observing the blood and noticing the way the bodies seemed to have been dragged to the Observatory. Something big had hit this place, something very bad. His only sign of anything was the slight raising of his carbine as his grip tightened on the stock.

A quick scan of the observatory, showed that the large, domed room was very sparse, compared to the rest of the facility. The chamber as everything else in the facility was quite cold, and due to the circular nature of the room acted as if standing on a cliff over a canyon amplifies the echoes of any sound. The domed ceiling currently closed, and a large telescope points towards the heavens.

Then without warning things started to get interesting as the sound of automatic weapons fire and two soldiers in U.S. Army garb duck for cover and begin firing bursts at at the team.
Kane reacted quickly

“Hold your fire, everyone pull back we need them alive”

Sgt Lee had been only steps behind Hatherford as they reached the Observatory and was just wondering what could have eradicated the blood and bodies from the room ahead when he heard and saw a blur of movement and then gunfire erupted ahead of them, he darted to cover raised his carbine to track one of the soldiers that was firing at them but he didn’t fire.

Hearing Sgt Kane’s orders he pulled back and took up a defensive position just outside the doorway on the left covering the doorway. He had seen US Army uniforms on the two men inside, but what did it mean. He wondered if they were only scared and alone and didn’t know if what had slaughtered the others was after them now, or if they might have gone crazy and they might be the ones who had done all the killing. He thought this unlikely as he couldn’t imagine any human who could have done the bloody work they had just past through. He waited ready to fire and let the Sgt and Lt call the next shot, his gun trained on the doorway ready to blast whoever or whatever might come through it after them.

syanide - well hopefully you can get some playing in before you have to go. Just let me know when you cant play him anymore.

Dragon Mistress-

You will have 16,000 gps in which to equip your character with everything you need, including magic items. All equipment, transportation, horse and trappings, etc must be paid for out of this allowance as well.

So after everything you own being subtracted from 16,000 gps whatever is left is what you have. You can have it on you or some stashed, your choice.

Ok I see several posts already for the Cerberus... is the Charon up and running yet?

I am working on my CTO character for the Charon... still alot of details to work out.

I saw there was a Kzinti officer... I thought about making my C a Lyran... that would have been interesting.
but I dont think the Lyrans are part of the Federation so I guess I will just settle for human.

Details to come.

I would like to play the Tactical Officer aboard the Charon. If it is ok?

I will start working on my character idea and have it up shortly.

syanide... but keep your C as is.. your party can do without a rogue mostly... but you will need the ranger.. and if you dont mind when you leave maybe I can get someone ls to take over your C.

Brianna - What ever money you had left over from buying your equipment should be the money that you have on you.. unless in your case it was take from your C. you decide.

Unfortunately... the person who was going to play the Rogue character has dropped out because of real life issues that wont allow them the time to play in this game.

Therefore I will be starting the game tomorrow with a NPC Rogue for now.

So watch the main thread tomorrow for a post.

Subject: Understood

Tann- Oh I agree with you and understand the procedures... it is Sgt Lee that doesnt agree with you.

If you read his bio you would see that he often has discipline problems and often disagrees with superiors. I just wanted to make it clear that it is Sgt Lee not liking the way the Staff Sgt gives orders. One of the reasons Lee is still just a Sgt no doubt.

Topic: A Cold Day in Hell
Subject: Doubt...

As if a switch had been thrown Lee and then Johnannsen totally forgot radio discipline and both tried to talk at once.
“On Alert! Acknowledged! Lee and Johannsen rendezvousing with Sgt Kane.” This from Lee.
“This is Johnannsen, IS anyone injured? Is there still hostile action.” This from Johnannsen.

“Belay that!! Maintain radio discipline, if the Lt needs us he will call us. Continue your search.”

Lee stopped in the hallway outside the next room from the one they had just exited when he heard the Sgt’s order. He shook his head as he didn’t agree with Staff Sgt’s decision but he would follow the order.

"Lets continue our sweep," He said to the Cpl.

Lee didn’t see anything wrong with what he had done. Standard procedure said that they should be ready to lend aid to the other Fire Team in an instant. The Lt’s call had said to ‘Stand Ready’ and rejoining their team was the smart thing to do, not continue to be separated where it would waste precious seconds if they were needed by the Lt.

The Staff Sgt at first had seemed a soldier with a lot of experience but Lee began to wonder about the man’s capabilities under fire. The man seemed more interested in radio discipline then in sound tactics. Such small lapses in judgment could get them all killed.

He gestured to Cpl Johannsen to follow him and check out the other rooms on their side of the hall as ordered.

“Lt be aware have discovered radiation marked canisters, radiation protocol in effect for Team B, continuing search at this time.”

Sgt Lee nodded to Cpl Johannsen to make sure she had heard the order regarding radiation, but their side of the hall seemed to mostly contain station quarters and not labs and such. Finding nothing out of the ordinary the Cpl and he had just moved back to the hallway when..

"Sergeant Kane, we've sustained some injuries here. Secure a path to the rendezvous point and meet us there. Over."

“Affirmative, Team B on its way.” The Staff Sergeant replied.

“Johannsen, Lee, form up on me and head for the main hallway, Lee take point, Hart rear guard move it medium and careful”

Sgt Lee formed up and took the point as soon as the Staff Sgt and Hart rejoined them. He kept his carbine ready and moved out at a medium yet cautious pace scanning all doorways especially if they were open. Reaching the main hallway he was relieved to see Fire Team A limping in the other end.

As Cpl Johannsen rushed to the injured, Lee took up a defensive position near the short hallway to the west (the one north of the comm center) keeping a watchful eye for any further sign of danger. He again noticed the Staff Sgt’s disregard for standard procedure, he should have immediately made sure that all egress to this hallway were covered by his men before asking the Lt about orders. Doubt was beginning to creep into his mind regarding their leadership.

(OOC: Please don’t take offense Tann, just my character seeing fault in the Staff Sgt’s leadership and this is not in any way criticism of your Rping. )

Topic: Garayon - Reign of Darkness Q&A
Subject: A reminder on Magic Use...

..this was posted in the recruitment thread but just to remind the mage and Cleric how it will work.

My magic system is similar to points systems used by others on here, 1st level spells are 1 pt and 2nd levels are 2 pts; (ie. If you are allotted 2 - 1st lv and 1 - 2nd lv you have a total of 4 pts for the day, then you can cast 4 - 1st lv or 2 - 2nd or any combination equaling 4 pts). Mages don’t have to choose their spells up front. They can choose the spell they need at the time of using it.

Mages still have a spell book they must study each day and rest, but rest is not based on their spell times or levels. A normal amount of sleep each night is sufficient rest for the day, if less sleep is all a mage can get then they can still study and cast the next day but the less sleep they get the more chance of failure. An hour of study is sufficient time each day. So get your rest boys and girls.

Clerics pray for their spells, and must rest just like anyone. They have access to all available spells at their level, and they pray each day but don’t have to choose their spells up front either. They can choose the spell they need at the time of using it. The spheres they have access to is based on the type of deity they worship, any questions about this just ask. Clerics get the bonus spells for Wisdom as stated and they turn undead, and possibly other granted powers based on what deity they worship.
