Alea digs out some small paper balls tie round with string and a couple of arrows. "Anyone else shooting tie one of these to the point of your arrow. It is finely ground pepper and hot peppers. Get it anywhere on their torso or above them on the rocks and it will effect them."

"Also we might try to make a long shot down the way a bit ansa see if we can draw them off, or spring the strap, if there is one. We might even learn if the bridge is trapped."

“You might want to reconsider,” Thom interrupts, “if you don’t take them out immediately and together, they will be able to signal that you are here. Shelnak can communicate with their kind over great distances.”

“I also noticed that your friend,” he continues nodding at Siliwen, “hasn’t had any ‘attacks’ through the rock as you mentioned earlier.”

(No one so far has stated that they are actually carrying Sil so I am assuming she is walking like everyone else)

“Now there is a possibility that there may be other Shelnak hidden down the other side,” He gestures to the far side of the bridge, “but on this side or on the bridge there is no place for them. We notice nothing out of the ordinary here to our eyes except for the Shelnak. Now it could be so they can instantly warn if anyone comes this way. The Kree would not have this capability.”

He falls silent and lets them decide how they will handle the sentries.

(Anyone can post again if you like. I would like to see actual actions decided upon before my official update on Sunday Evening.)

The closest is approx. 30~35 feet away from your current position. So well within range of most spells.

As for the challenge, you havent reached the worst part yet. This stuff is easy!

~Back post to Riddle~

Thon smiles at the Ranger, “Laddie, I am sure yar a fine tracker and guide up top, but leave the underground passage to the experts.” His tone is not condescending but polite and easy going as he tells Riddle that the Dwarves will lead.

“You can be the first of yar group,” He says, “if ya like.” He turns and leads the way through the passage which is well known to him.

~Current~

It seems that even if there are no others around trying to take both guards out without making one of them aware that something is wrong is not going to be easy since they are seperated by the bridge. Thor once again speaks to Thon Do you know of any other way across here even if maybe just for our thief so that he may be able to attack the guard adross the bridge at the same time someone takes care of the one on this side?

Thon turns to Thor and raises and eyebrow, “This be the only way across but if ya want to take out both sentries, all ya need is two bowmen.” He gestures with his head at the crossing where the farthest sentry is only about 70’ from their present position and the near one even closer; both within easy bow range.

.. one of my favorites from early 80s has always been Magician by Raymond Feist.

The Book was later divided into Magician: Apprentice and Magician: Master.

He went on to right two more books that became the Riftwar Saga. These were all so successful that he wrote several more Sagas which wer all wonderful IMHO.

Feist is a avid D&D player and the adventures take place in a world that he created and used with his tabletop players. Every D&D Players dream come true.

Check them out if you havent read them.

Location: The Grey Mountains - Dwarven Hideout
Date/Time: Day Eight – Night

"Thanks you for the offer of supplies. I so need food at, least I really do not have the need for much else. I also think we should bet going as soon as possible, "Siliwen adds politely and moves over to check out the pile of supplies the dwarves have indicated.

Thor is most worried about Siliwen and not being able to keep her up off the ground. I am most concerned for Siliwen and her safty and the fact that the Kree can track her somehow through the ground. If a pony can not make this trip than I offer myself for the job perhaps we could fashion some form of sling or such and I am sure I can carry her load she may have to get down for narrow or difficult areas but at least she won't have constant contact with the ground, and as the dwarven leader says the Kree may be to busy to worry about her right now.

Satisfied that he had what he needed Billy waited for the others. When he heard Thor ask about a sling for Siliwen he nodded, "That sounds like a good idea, keep her off the ground as much as possible."

"That is a good Idea, Thor," says Alea moving over to the supplies.

She approaches the leader of the Dwarves first, "If you please you have knowledge of the ways we will travel, can you help me select such equipment as we will need and an amount of rations that you expect I will need."

"Thor, Billy, Siliwen, I suggest that we each carry our own rope, rations, water and whatever so that if one of us should fall, we did not also lose needed equipment."

Alea will await some assistence in choosing the needed equipment. As she waits she looks at her spear, but it had deen of good use fending off the creatures the hsve attacked them. Now it could be a problem in the tunnels. "Do you have a shorter shafted spear, a really shrp one? Or could you cut this one down a bit?"

Billy leaned over and took the spear from Siliwen. After placing it over a nearby rock he simply stepped on the end and snapped off about a foot of shaft. Then he picked up the now shorter spear and rubbed the splintered end on the rock. After a few minutes the end was fairly smooth. "There that should work." he said as he returned it to Siliwen.

The Dwarven Leader turns from speaking to one of his men and chuckles slightly, “Ya already stated the obvious lass. Ya will do good to take a weeks worth of food, rope and such. But don’t overload yarself, otherwise ya may find yarself dumping things along the way. Naw worry though, my boys will be with ya and assist ya where they can.”

“Now as to yar friend,” he says with a shrug and a nod towards Siliwen, “carrying her is an option for ya, but a dangerous one. Besides I think the dark one’s minions may be a bit busy to look for ya. If your lucky they may think ya already dead.”

Going over to the Dwarven leader she speaks with him. "I wish you the best in your battle against the Dark One's forces, May the Gods favor your efforts. Now if we may have that guide you spoke of I think we are all ready to get going."

“I will send over yar guide,” he replies, “may the gods watch over ya and see ya to yar purpose.”

(Once the group is ready, including if they wish to rig up some type of sling for Sil)

A rough looking dwarf walks over to them with five other companions, “We be yar guides. I’m Thon. Are ye ready?”

As the group joins with their dwarves guides, they see the others headed out of the cavern using the entrance to the outside; their guide, Thon, leads them a different way. Taking them over to a way at the far back of the cavern, he presses a stone there and a cleverly hidden door opens to reveal a dark passage.

“Ya not be needing light,” He said before he turned to enter; four dwarves take the lead, with the last two following the group.

(I will need a marching order for the group, discuss options and post order please)

They enter and go only a few yards in the dark before they notice a faint glow beginning to show them their companions ahead of them. Faint luminous moss patches dot the narrow passage giving them enough light to see their way.

They continue on for a half an hour before the passage comes out into a much larger cavern, but they now find themselves on a 5’ wide ledge fallowing along the right wall of this immense underground cavern bathed in this faint greenish light from the strange moss. The bottom of the cavern stretches downward several hundred feet to jagged rocks below.

The party continues to travel in single file here, since the ledge is not wide enough to safely allow two abreast. Their dwarven guides seem to know this way quiet well and do not hesitate along the way. Their way continues to wind downward, passing through other caverns and passages, all lit by the faint glowing moss.

After a couple hours the dwarves stop where the current cavern bends to the right. Thon turns back and approaches the group, resting for a moment leaning on the halt of his dwarves axe.

“Ahead is a watch post,” he says in a whisper just loud enough so they can hear him, “thar will be guards. It will be difficult to approach without being seen, keep low.”

The entire group slips slowly around the corner where they see a stone bridge crossing the cavern, the floor several hundred feet below. Their path along the right wall leads right up to the bridge. The bridge is about 10’ wide and 50’ across with no rail, and it seems the only way onward is to cross that bridge.

Thon motions them all to halt and keep low. He gestures up to the bridge and after a few seconds they see movement; a lone sentry stands this side and on the far side of the bridge; tall thin dark creatures they have seen before.

“Shelnak,” Thon hisses quietly, “this is odd. Normally Kree guide these passages. Something is nat right.” He looks back to the group and shakes his head.

“I know nat why the Dark One has placed Shelnak here,” He says sounding puzzled, “they are nat hardy fighters in small numbers. But that is the only way and we must take them out before they know we are here. They can alert the Dark General magically if they see us.”

The group can tell by the way the Dwarf is looking at them, he expects they have some magical or other means to remove the obstacle in their path.

Seeing people about in the village as they approach, Vatta slips the hood of her cloak up to cover her head and bury her face in shadows. She is use to people having adverse reactions to elves and does this out of habit. He hands rest lightly on the reins of her mount, her bow hanging from the strap on her saddle, her swords sheathed, looking very much at ease; but she is ready incase this place becomes less friendly than it seems.

She scans the village and sees that they have a Inn, and shops, especially a fletcher, and smiles slightly knowing she will have a chance to replenish her supply of arrows. She rides on towards the Inn for now, thinking it is late and she will have time tomorrow to visit the shops for what she needs. Riding up to the place called “The Green Stag” she slips gracefully to the ground and looks around for a stable, or stable boy. If she finds one, she will toss the reins them along with a silver coin.

“Take care of him,” she says as she removes her saddle bags and bow before letting the horse be taken away.

Slipping her things over her shoulder she will head into the Inn, hopefully along with the others. Inside she pauses to look about the room, automatically out of habit she assesses the potential ‘threats’ in the room. She moves towards a empty table big enough for their party; setting her stuff in a chair she moves to the bar to address the bartender.

“We will be needing rooms,” she says in a soft velvety voice, “I will take anything you have at the end of the hall. How much?”

Once payment is made on the room, she heads back towards the table and says over her shoulder, “We require food as well, please send over someone to take our order.”

Setting her stuff on the floor next to her chair she sits down and waits for a waitress/waiter to come and then order a wine, elvin if they have it, and ask about what food they have left this evening.; she is suddenly famished and is looking forward to a good meal.

“I’m fine,” she wondered at his sudden concern. “You’re the one I should be asking. They fired enough lead your way to drop a bull elephant.”

Behind his mask MDK gave a smirk, and shrugged slightly at her comment as he scanned the area for pursuit.

“You hesitated back there,” the Black-clad Assassin said to her, “I thought maybe something was wrong with you, but if your alright then don’t hesitate again, next time it might be your life.”

She might wonder what he was talking about, when did she hesitate? To the Solo’s enhanced perceptions and reflexes she was slow. He had downed two men before she had even drawn her weapon, to him those few milliseconds could mean life or death.

As he headed off in the direction of the facility, he began to wonder if the rumors about Peacekeeper’s rep were just that.. rumors. She had downed some of those Corp stooges but they had been easy and surprised. He now had little doubt that if it came time to ‘part company’ with this group, he wouldn’t have any trouble taking her out of the equation. This thought didn’t cause any remorse, he felt little except the thrill of combat; fear and doubt could get you killed real quickly.

As they continued through the woods he slung the HKs over his shoulder and reloaded his Automag. Those incendiary armor piercing bullets he had picked up had done the trick; they punched through Corp armor like butter and his targets often found it hard to continue the fight when their skin was burning off.

Wilderness – Northeast of Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 11:35pm

As they came to the road again he crouched down and scanned it carefully with his enhanced vision looking for cameras, sensors, hidden patrols, anything. When Peacekeeper moved close to whisper to him he listened but kept his eyes moving watching over her shoulder.

“If I remember the map,…the mountainside on the west side of the facility has some good tree cover, putting us uphill from the place and about four to five hundred meters away. The facility sits atop a hill, right? The east face of that hill is pretty bare, and there are a couple of additional hills surrounding it that way….We’d have to cross over the road to go up the west mountainside…”
He nodded to her statement, it was the way he saw it as well. He might think she was slow and didn’t have the stomach for real wet work, but he silently admitted she had a reasonable brain in the beautiful head of hers.

MDK turned his head so the battle mask looked directly into her face when she turned back from glancing at the road; the flat-black mask revealing nothing about the person behind it. It was almost as if she were talking with a robot, a emotionless killing machine as it were, his voice almost mechanical sounding as he spoke.

“The Western approach is the best,” he said flatly, “it will give us a better view and more cover.”

He checked the two HKs he had slung about his body, making sure they were ready and a round chambered. With a head gesture to Peacekeeper, he moved a little closer to the road and stopped just in the last available cover. There he scanned up and down the road checking once again for patrols, cameras, etc. using his full vision enhancements.

(A lot of assumptions from here on… cut me off at any point if something comes up)

Seeing nothing, he gestured to her and motioned her to cross that he would cover her. Sending her first was not a question of cowardice; to him it made sense, she was a smaller target and he was the better, faster shot. He kept an HK in each hand as she stayed low and crossed the road. He waited a full 60 seconds and then ran across himself, keeping and eye both ways. Once on the other side he gestured for her to fall in with him again as she began to leap-frog again through the brush.

Wilderness – Northeast of Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 11:50pm

After about 15 mins, they reach a hill overlooking the western side of the Facility; crouching down in some deep brush they look over the setup. MDK shakes his head at what he sees; these guys are serious about no visitors.

The entire place is surrounded by a 12’ tall chainlink fence, which is no doubt electrified and alarmed; topped with razorwire. His enhance vision spots security cameras every 100 feet around the perimeter, no doubt they include nightvision and infrared sensors as well. His far seeing silver orbs pick out the two man patrol 10 meters inside the fence along with a dog which looks totally ‘jacked’.

“This is not good,” he whispers to Peacekeeper as she crouches next to her. “This place is heavily guarded.”

He continued to scan everything in sight, making a full evaluation on what they could do and what they would need later in order to get into this place as was planned.

“I hope that boyfriend of yours has some connections,” he said with a smirk which she could almost hear in his voice, “we are going to need some serious hardware in order to penetrate their security field and take on this kind of muscle.”

“Better give him a call and report our findings.” He told her as he kept an eye out for any outer perimeter patrols.

(Assuming she tries and fails since Croaker is unavailable)

“I got a bad feeling about this,” he said after Peacekeeper informs him the others cant be reached, “I get the impression someone knew we were coming.”

He turns to her and sitting on the ground in the brush he lifts up his battle mask and pulls down the armored bandana and his silvery metallic orbs lock on her.

“Roving patrols apparently looking for someone,” he says in a whisper, “a lot of heavy security here, and we have to assume for now that the others have been killed, or at best captured. Either way, that leaves us here alone.”

He raised an eyebrow as he watched the expressions of worry upon her face for Croaker and the others, “So, do we go back and verify the condition of your boyfriend and the others? Or do we make a new plan?” He sat there waiting for her reaction and suggestions. If left up to him he would call it quits and get out of here and save his skin since they didn’t have the firepower to tackle the Facility that lay only a few hundred meters away.

Date/Time: Day Eight – Night

“So,” he says puffing on his pipe letting the smoke ring around his head, “how may the Grey Dwarves assist you in this quest?”

Siliwen looks up at him. And rises gracefully. Guides would be great and using your underground passages to get us as close aa possible will be good. Food we can use and a place to keep our horses if we cannot get them through the passages. If The Dark One, through this general and mage, is gathering his forces, we need to act quickly.

“Food is not a problem,” The leader says as he puffs on his pipe, “we can give you enough for your journey. You are right, the battle will be soon for I have just received news that the Dark One’s forces are preparing to march. The combined forces of the Grey Dwarves and the humans will meet them on the plains just east of these mountains. We must engage them here where we can concentrate our forces for if we let them out into the open, they could spread out and it would divide us too much.”

Alea finds a plate and holds it out to whoever is cutting the slabs of meat. She moves to join the others then takes out her dagger and begins to pull the meat apart, then stab chunks with the point of her knife.

"I hate to say it, but our horses are a dead give away, and they are much harder to hide. If what I have heard is true then the lands of the Dark One will not sustain them." "I was hoping things were not progressing so quickly, so that we might have time to speak to the Evlves of this island to find out what they are planning to do."

"I believe what we seek in the thing that this general holds, and the would mean getting close enough to him to take it from him."

"We have another problem and that is keeping Siliwen off the ground because the Kree can detect her when she is on it, would you have a pony she could ride, it would be smaller and easier to hide. That if the others are willing to leave their mounts."

The Leader nods and smiles slightly, “Your mounts would not avail you further for your way now lies below ground. A pony would also not be of much use since some areas would be impassable to it; your journey from here will have to be on foot. You can leave them here and someone will be here to tend to them until your return.” He says hopefully.

Billy listened as he ate. "What, we are not gonna stick around for the fight? I was looking forward to it." With a look similar to a young lad being told he couldn't keep the puppy that followed him home, Billy slumped a bit and went back for more of the tasty meat. "Imagine, they want to sneak away." he said to the dwarven cook. "Well, they are the brains of the operation so I guess there must be a reason."

"Billy we are not sneaking away. We are moving into the very heart of the enemy in the very heart of the enemy. There will be plenty for your weapons to do to win us through to our goal." Siliwen tells Billy.

"Well Siliwen we are here; the enemy is coming and we are leaving. In my world that is called running away. You say we are really going into the heart of the enemy in order to try to win the war by avoiding the battle. For now I will trust the wisdom of the group." Billy looked just a bit dejected at the thought of missing the coming fight.

"The battle may just give us the cover we need. Remember that we were sent to get the item, and it seems this general has it. If we can secure it before he can really use it, it will help the dwarves far more than a couple of swords can do."

The Dwarven leader laughed slightly at their banter and then spoke to Billy, “You have no need to worry lad, where you go there will be fighting aplenty I think and they will need a strong lad such as yourself if they are to survive.”

“The battle may indeed be of help to you,” he said to Alea, “many of the forces will be gone, and Karn’s attention will be elsewhere so maybe he wont be able to try and locate Siliwen if he is kept busy with the battle.”

He puffed on his pipe for a moment lost in thought, “I can send 6 warriors with you; I dare not spare any more. Prepare yourselves and you can leave in a couple hours for Rungar’s Crave. The way will be underground so make sure you are well stocked with whatever you need. We have supplies over there,” he said pointing to some crates and barrels against one wall, “take what you can carry.”

Leaving them to prepare, pray, or what have you, he turned to attend to the preparations of his men for the coming battle.

(OK, let me know what supplies you want to take. There are most things, in limited quantities, that you might find in a normal mercantile. Anything special, let me know and I will see if it is available. Next update you are on your way!)

As for the Chinese gymnasts, the one that looks the youngest they reveal yesterday that she was interviewed last year and she was only 13, and then earlier this year in a Chinese newspaper she was featured and they said she was 14... of course the Chinese say it was an error… and of course their ages were verified by their ’Chinese’ passports.. hmmm.. makes you wonder.

Sgt Lee groaned slightly but made no other side of regaining consciousness due to the extent of his internal injuries. If anyone looked at his closed eyes they might notice that the eyeballs appeared to be moving slightly under the lids as if he were dreaming in his unconscious state.

Actually Lee was having a strange dream, it were eerily similar to the situation they had found themselves in when he had gained his serious injuries. He was a character in a bad ‘B” rated movie he recalled seeing some late night on one of the retro entertainment channels. He couldn’t remember the name of it, and right now he didn’t care.

He was some high school jock who needed a great science project for his senior final otherwise he might fail to graduate. He and some friends had snuck into a military junkyard hoping to find something he could pass off as his project and they had found some strange gizmo and brought it back to the high school. While cleaning up the gizmo he had accidentally activated it and it demonstrated strange powers, such as absorbing electricity from any nearby electronic devices.

After they decide to give it some more ‘juice’ to see what it can do, it begins to material objects from other times and dimensions. When he shows it to his crazy ‘aging hipster’ science teacher the man plugs it into the main power and it starts a chain reaction that begins to twist dimensions and warp time around the school. Past, present and future collide and Lee and his friends wind up battling all kinds of creatures and people, even gladiators from Ancient Rome, to try and get to the device to stop it.

While Lee lay on the floor being tended to by Johannsen and the Lt, he was in a ‘battle’ against some post-apocalyptic mutants from a time yet to have happened. During the battle, in what once was the school gymnasium but was now some mixture of different time periods both past and future, Lee was stuck hard by one of the large mutants and knocked across room to fall unconscious and lay bleeding in serious need of medical attention.

(OOC: Hey I had to post something, bored waiting on something to save him. )

Subject: Aid offered...

Location: The Grey Mountains - Dwarven Hideout
Date/Time: Day Eight - Night

Thor gathers himself and his belongings and makes his way over to where the dwarf's who are cooking are. My my that smells real good friends, you know how to make a dwarf feel at home.

He will then wait till he sees the rest of the party Looks like we will eat a good meal for a change and I for one can hardly wait. He says with a smile and a laugh.

The dwarves turn as Thor approaches their little area where he sees a boar roasting on a spit over a small fire. It looks as if it has been roasting for hours and the meat is practically falling off the bone. The dwarves there laugh at him and gesture them all over as they tear off hunks of meat and place it on crude metal plates.

“You are most welcome brother,” one of them says with a laugh and a smile, “what kind of kin would we be if we didn’t at least feed those who chose to fight against the Dark One and his ilk?”

One of them passes the plate of meat over to another dwarf and he sets some type of boiled tuber and some leafy greens on the plate before passing it to Thor. Another dwarf comes up with a tankard of ale, which he can see them dispensing from a keg set against one wall. He also notices that several of the dwarves are already eating the same fare and drinking the ale and relaxing while a few others are apparently sleeping.

Billy yawned, stretched and sniffed the air. "Mmmm, is that breakfast I smell?" Billy re-rolled his bedroll and then made his way to the cook. "I would love some of that." After getting his meal Billy sat and ate, waiting for the coming battle.

Billy gets the same treatment as Thor, actually the rest of the party, Sil, Riddle and Alea, as they approach the dwarves are treated with the same courtesy and handed a heaping plate of delicious food. The meat is tender and juicy, while the strange tuber has a taste similar to potatoes yet is also slightly sweet and tangy. The ale is strong but pure and flavorful as one would expect a good dwarves ale to be.

"We are not here to battle The Dark One's forces," Alea stated simply. "Our quest to to infiltrate the Dark One's hold and take from him that which he should not have. This battle could give us an advantage in that we will be least expected to gbe going into the Dark One's territory while it is going one."

"I believe Alacran spoke of this to us. He was hoping that a battle would give us the cover to allow us more freedom to move."

The leader of the dwarves walked over to join the group and overheard Alea’s comment. He sat down holding a mug of ale and nodded his head in understanding.
“I thought as much,” he said with a chuckle, “for if he was going to send us help with the battle, I would have hoped he would have sent more help then your small group. No offense intended.”

As they ate, he sipped his ale and pondered what Alea had told him then with a grunt he stood to address them.

“Well then,” he said gently, “we will aid you in whatever way we can. We will provide food, water, weapons if need be and I think I can spare a couple of my men as guides if you require them.”

“I can only assume that the ‘thing’ you wish to take from them is the strange power that one of his minions now wields against us,” he says as he walks over to a pack sitting on the ground and draws out a long pipe and a pouch before returning to sit by the group. He begins to take pipeweed from the pouch and stuff it in the pipe as he tells them a tale.

“The Dark One himself does not reside in these mountains, but lives farther in the uplands, but he has given control of his forces here to one of his most powerful generals. It is a warped human named Karn, a powerful warrior and mage, who wields a strange power the likes of which we have never seen. With it he can blast our forces to oblivion with a thought; thus far we have avoided direct confrontation when he is near and so far he has mostly confined himself to an old dwarves city which was taken from us years ago. From there he directs his forces, gathering more to him, those who would work for power or gold. He corrupts all that come to him, bending them to his will with this strange power.”

He pauses to light his pipe with a stick from the fire then continues, “We believe he is planning to march his army to the lowlands and take it all in one great push, destroying everything in his path. So far, he has been patient and waits letting his army grow ever stronger and larger. We believe he will not wait much longer as we have seen signs that he is preparing to make his move soon.”

“If you plan to enter Rungar’s Crave where he resides, you will have to be stealthy and we can help you get some of the way there as we know secret ways even the Dark One’s forces have not yet uncovered but it will be dangerous and even once you face this Karn, he is very powerful and you might find it nigh impossible to defeat him. But, if Alacran has prepared you then perhaps you have a chance.”

“So,” he says puffing on his pipe letting the smoke ring around his head, “how may the Grey Dwarves assist you in this quest?”
