Topic: A Cold Day in Hell
Subject: Busted up...

“Oh fine,” Johannsen interjected before Kane could follow up with his question as to whether the cold had maybe frostbitten their brains, “you two just go ahead and give that a try. You might make it back there if you leaned against each other or maybe crawled there. Then I can have the joy of practicing on you yet again. All I need is you to undo all the work I put in on you and start internal bleeding all over again. Sgt. Lee how many fingers am I holding up?”

“I can appreciate the need for payback, Lee,” Kane said, his eyes moving from the Sgt to Pearson, “and I can appreciate Pearson, there, havin’ enough cajones to follow ya into the fire, but, in case ya missed it, troop, we got our asses handed to us and, if we went chargin’ back in there now and there turned out to be another one of those s#!^-smellin’ things waitin’ on us how much of a chance do ya think we’d have?

I know some of you are injured—I know you want to get your sword back, Lee—but there’s a lot at stake here and I’m not about to risk it for a single weapon, no matter the sentimental value. If all works out, we’ll return for it—“ Monty held up his hand to forestall any argument from the sergeant. “I’m not leaving anyone behind again seeing how well that turned out the last time we did, so pack it all up. We’re moving out in five. Kane…”

Sgt Lee looked at Johannsen and was no doubt preparing a nasty retort but when he could only see a blurry image of her hand, and couldn’t see how many fingers she had up he realized that he wasn’t up to going back for his sword right now even with Pearson’s help.

He realized that the LT, Ssgt and even Johannsen were correct; if they lived through this then he would go back for it, there was no way he could leave here without it. It was a family heirloom, handed down from his grandfather and if he lost it then he would bring dishonor upon his family line.

“Understood, LT and Sgt!” He said standing as tall as he could. He turned to face the medic and bowed his head slightly, “I’m Sorry!”

As the order was given, Lee fell into line where he was told to be and felt guilty for not taking the point to which he was accustomed. Deep inside he knew that he was not in shape to do point and they needed someone more alert and able, right now he was able to walk though he anytime they stopped he took the opportunity to lean against a wall to rest for a few moments. He still kept his carbine ready though he silently hoped he didn’t endanger the others with his lapse of alertness and capabilities.

Vatta didn’t answer the man when he spoke of his family in Tilverton; she had heard that the town was gone but didn’t know how to break it to the man. When he spoke of thieves and murderers, she only nodded slightly as she thought; those we can handle.

She was spared the telling of Tilverton by Lorae who told him of the town’s fate. Only Vatta’s quick reflexes saved her drink as the table was knocked over by the man sudden rise. As her empty plate slide to the floor, she slipped backwards to her feet to see what he would do, and sipped her wine as she watched the stranger run out the door.

“Guess he was telling the truth about the son,” she says flatly as she turns without remorse and walks to the bar for a wine refill.

I dont think everyone is waiting for you to post everytime. There just seems to be a lack of enthusiam with posting for this game so I imagine people arent enjoying it! I hope otherwise but.. we will see!

As a reminder to all! Let me reinterate... the noise of the falls makes conversation impossible between party members! Hand signals only and then only if people are looking at them. Everyone who has posted thus far has said or heard something that they shouldnt have given the circumstances. If anyone wants to edit their posts, please do so.

I will updated Saturday night. I will be traveling again on Sunday out to CA again. Maybe if I go down to Santa Monica pier again I might catch Brianna and/or Dragon Mistress out sunbathing!

Subject: Frog hunting... Croaker.. get it? :)

Biotechnica Facility; Northernmost Building – Northeast of Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 11:56pm

“Well, we’ve some hardware for you boys, and we’ve a link from the outside through Jack, so arm up. We’re going to go find Croaker and see if we can’t finish this frackin’ mission.”

With a fluid motion, Peacekeeper dropped the retrieved submachine guns into the hands of the captives, stepping aside to allow MDK to share his weapons as well should he decide to.

MDK stepped up behind peacekeeper towering over her looking at the captives, his gaze paused on Freeway and quickly assessed the man. Once Peacekeeper stepped aside he unslung one of the HKs he carried and handed it over to Freeway without a word to the man. He figured if he was in here then maybe he might be useful in getting them out.

“Where to?” Peacekeeper asked the assassin.

MDK paused as he received the input from the eye link to the netrunner then hefting the remaining HK in his hands he whirled back to the hallway gesturing for them to follow.

“Move,” MDK said as he lead the way, “we have less than 30 seconds to clear this hallway. Close that door.”

“Croaker is being held in the main building, subfloor 3, room 12b.” he said as he lead them out of there quickly yet quietly, “the drug might be in the main building, subfloor 5, room 9c. We will worry about that later.”

He would hurry them all out of there, making sure the door to the cell was closed again that way anyone wandering by wouldn’t become suspicious.

(Remainder in collaboration with the GM)

The dark assassin lead them back out the way he and Peacekeeper had entered and they cleared the hall only seconds before a guard patrol came along from the other direction. When they reached the door leading to the outside, he paused for a second as if receiving more info from the netrunner then turned and gestured them out the door.

“Move a patrol is near,” he opened the door and gestured them out to the left as footfalls sounded up the hallway they had just left.

“Stay close to the wall,” he whispered as they passed him and he was the last to leave the doorway and close it behind him only a second or two before the guard patrol entered the room they had just vacated.

(Assuming all follow directions here, if not, your on your own. )

Once outside the building, MDK once again assumed the lead and with a quick glance around he turned to the group to issue instructions.

“Ok, follow me, move quietly yet quickly,” he said in a whisper from behind his armored facemask and the black armored bandana that covered his entire head and face, “we must cross this open well lit area but the cameras have been taken care of so just stay on my tail and keep moving.”

Without waiting for a response, he turned and headed out into the open compound headed south towards the main building. Miraculously they made it across without incident in plain view of the surveillance cameras which seemed to be everywhere. He led them to the west side of the main building and up to a door which contained what looked like a very high security keypad and retinal scanner. MDK paused with them all behind him hugging up next to the building and turned to face them.

“There is a guard booth on the other side of this door,” he whispered, “when this door opens I will enter and handle the guard; give me a 5 count before you guys follow.”

Once he received acknowledgement, he nodded and turned back to the door and slung his HK back behind him out of the way; apparently he planned to ‘handle’ the guard with his bare hands. The door lock clicked and MDK opened it and entered immediately headed to his left.

On the other side of the door is a foyer with window from the guard's room looking into it. The foyer is a square room, and in the northern corner of the eastern wall is the door to the rest of the facility, also keycard locked. Through the door, immediately to the left is a long hall with highly polished gray tile, and a small recess in the western wall containing the door to the guard's booth. The hall to the left isn't the only direction you can go once through that door however. There's also a hall running straight ahead and down the width of the building from west to east.

MDK enters the foyer and with long quick strides and heads directly to the recessed doorway to the guard booth; the door clicks open as his hand is reaching for the handle and without breaking stride he opens the doorway and heads towards the lone guard. He notices the guard is distracted by the flickering screens of his monitoring equipment which seems to be malfunctioning.

Knowing the guard would hear the door opening and the heavy tread of his boots, he spoke normally to the guard as he closed the short distance to where he sat looking at his monitors. (Assume he is sitting, if not adjust actions accordingly).

“Hey,” he said softly, like a greeting, as if just another guard coming in to see how things were going.

When the guard turned in his seat, MDK would launch a devastating Taekwondo combo at the surprised guard. Lashing out, mostly by instinct, would deliver a powerful front snap kick with his left leg towards the seated man’s face followed quickly by a leading hand jab towards the throat, a reverse hand jab towards the solar plexus and finally ending with a downward axe kick using his back leg; his heavy black Ruf Tuff boots descending heel first onto the man’s head or back, whichever presented itself, in a blow that could crush a man’s skull if properly executed.

Such a powerful and devastating attack delivered by an accomplished martial artist such as MDK, would normally drop a man instantly if not kill him outright. But just in case the guard did manage to dodge all or part of his surprise attack, MDK would be ready to follow up with other equally capacitating techniques. He knew he couldn’t allow the man to reach for any sort of alarm switch or get off a shot, either would seal their doom here deep inside the Corporate base.

"I've made my home in the woods here, the balance was in great need of restoration when I arrived and so I set about my work. Things are back to more or less what they should be now, it's time for me to move on." He takes a large sip of his drink, he isn't an drunkard, it's just something to do between talking. "I want to see my son in Tilverton, it has been so long now. Perhaps I could join you and your group, I was going to leave at first light tomorrow but there is safety in a pack."

Vatta looked up at Lenwe as he spoke to Lorae, her eyes studying him closely. The mention of a son made her wonder about her suspicions regarding him. If the man was indeed a spy or plant of some kind, the story of having a son was indeed something she doubted he would come up with to feed them. Still, he seemed eager to join them but then he did have a point about traveling in a group being safer; especially lately with all the trouble in the area.

“So your from Tilverton?” Vatta said softly, her voice ringing like low musical tone which drifted in the stale smoky air of the tavern. She continued to eat as she peered at him from beneath her hood waiting for his reply.

As for Grugg and his Kitten-kaboodle… sounds like some inhuman food dish that Grugg is eating. Remember don’t feed Grugg!

I anxiously await the start of this game.

Though Billy’s rope plan was sound, it was rejected by several members and even their dwarven guides seem to think it unnecessary. Maybe they assume that since they are much closer to the ground than the giant of a fighter they are more stable and sure footed. Only time will tell as the party proceeds onward towards the falls.

The deafening roar of the waterfall as they drew nearer was almost mind numbing in it’s intensity; yet as they walked on slowly closer their footing remained steady and since the ledge was wide it seemed everyone was safe from falling as long as they were cautious.

As they drew nearer to the fall they could see that this cavern apparently ended at the waterfall and the ledge they were on curved ahead and went behind the falls itself.

Suddenly there was some disturbance at the head of the party; the dwarves there were agitated about something. They were gesturing a lot to each other but any verbal communication was impossible now because of the deafening roar of the falls.

Looking ahead towards the falls, the rest of the group can see what is causing the dwarves anxiety; a group of Shelnaks are emerging from behind the falls on the very ledge the party is on. The tall thin creatures are loping along almost on all fours when they spot the group and stop.

Quickly the group, of about 20 shelnaks, stands up, pulls out triangular metal rods holding them like large daggers, and form into a wedge shaped formation which blocks the ledge ahead. At the head of the wedge stands the tallest and darkest Shelnak of the group, in it’s hands is a larger version of the metal rod which it holds like a two handed sword.

The leader’s rod begins to glow red with magical power and even glistens with a dark moisture; a drop of that moisture drops off and hits the ledge before it causing the stone to smoke and bubble.

The three dwarves in front quickly ready their weapons and form a single line across the ledge in front of the party as they prepare for the Shelnak wedge which is only 30’ away from them and starting to advance.

(OOC: Ok combat round coming up. Just to recap, this is ‘blind’ initiative, so state your actions and once everyone has posted then I will put them in the proper order and determine the outcome. See map below for layout and positions; on left is drop off into darkness and on right is sheer rock face going up 60’+ to the cavern ceiling above. Any questions, ask them in the Q&A thread. Enjoy! )

Waterfall Cavern

((Edit to add: I would like to clarify.. because of the roar of the waterfall almost right next to you that no one can hear anything that is said.. even if it is yelled right next to them.))

Sgt Lee moans slightly as he gets to his feet a bit shakily the first time after his bout with unconsciousness. He winces from the pain of his contusions and internal injuries which would normally have him bed ridden for a while but since they are in the midst of a s*** storm of trouble he cant afford to lie about and be useless.

“Sgt?” Lee says as he hobbles over to Kane looking a bit embarrassed, “I’m sorry I let that ‘thing’ get the best of me, I let the team down and endangered the mission and our lives. It …. took me by surprise.. it .. wont happen again.”

He tries not to wince from the pain as he speaks, but the effort of speaking is evident to anyone watching. He hefts his carbine, racking the bolt to strip off a round out of the fresh magazine he installed.

“I’m ready for some payback, Sarge!” He says with a weak smile. His face is slightly pale and he is uncertain on his feet but he seems eager to do battle with something.

(Room here for response from anyone)

“Suddenly Lee reaches back with one of hands to his empty scabbard astride his back and finding the hilt of his Chinese sword absent he looks around his eyes wide.

“My sword!” He says, his voice revealing something he didn’t show when he was facing the creature that almost killed him, a hint of panic.

Not finding his sword in the room (assuming someone tells him that no one picked it up) and learning it is still in the room where they battled the unearthly beast, he looks at Sgt. Kane wide-eyed.

“I have to go back there and find it!” He says this as an absolute as if there is no question this must be done.

Vatta says nothing to the young man but only nods her head in greeting at his name; his Elvin name. Her food arrived as the man rattled on and so she had an excuse to not venture any answers to his questions which seemed never ending. She, unlike Lorae, didn’t trust him. She didn’t trust anyone she had just met, it kept her alive thus far.

She turned to eating and listening, her eyes peering out from her hood occasionally to study the man’s clothing and accoutrements. She liked to learn what she could from people, often just by observing them; their manners, their gestures and the things they carried or wore.

The only thing she did, other than eating, was to raise her wine glass to the waitress as she passed letting her know that she wanted a refill. Turning back to her meal she ate and watched.

213. I’ll unlock the door when you get there.

Sure enough, as soon as MDK stepped in front of the door he heard the audible click of the lock disengaging. To his left, Peacekeeper’s pretty brow furrowed as she readied herself to barge into the room.

MDK had to admit this net runner was worth every penny Jack was paying him; that they had gotten this far without incident was a miracle. He had never counted on luck so he really didn’t like it when everything went according to plan. Not that this was much of a plan, but he had expected that one or both of them would be dead or captured by now.

As he stepped up to door 213 he signaled Peacekeeper that this was the door. It looked like a heavy detention style door so maybe they were inside, or maybe this was a trap. When the door lock clicked he signaled her to hold her fire and for her to slowly open the door and that he would cover her from the side of the doorway. If her friends were inside they would most likely respond better to her than to his dark draped form in the doorway.

He scanned the hallway quickly for any sign of trouble, while he let her have the doorway. As she reached for the handle he turned to cover her with the two HKs he had ‘annexed’.

Alea makes her way slowly across the chasm; looking down she sees nothing but jagged rocks below and darkness. The rope holds true to her weight and though the crossing is slow going she makes it across without problems. Soon she is alone on the far side of the bridge where she sees a passage leading off at an angle from this side of the bridge. The rock passage is lit by the same dim greenish light as the rest of these catacombs.

Signaling that it is safe; she unties the safety rope which is pulled back across. While the next person gets ready, she makes sure this side of the hook is securely fastened into the rocks. Slowly, one by one, the others come across without mishap and the only thing lost is time.

“We have lost valuable time,” Thon says once they are all on this side and all their gear is once again stowed, “we must hurry if we are to assault the lair during the main battle out on the plains.”

The Dwarves again take up a guard position; Thon and two in front and the remaining three behind the party.

(Will assume a marching order, if you want otherwise let me know. Here is the order: Thon, Dwarf, Dwarf, Billy, Thor, Riddle, Siliwen, Alea, Dwarf, Dwarf)

The passage remains single file but through a rock passage which enters other small caverns which are all empty and with no further chasms or bridges thus far. The dwarves lead them unerringly down different passages they encounter without hesitation and they only stop once in a small cavern (approx. 40’ dia.) for a rest and to eat cold rations.

“It will not be much further now till we start entering the catacombs under the lair,” Thon says, “then we will have to be careful to avoid detection as long as possible.”

After a half an hour, the march starts again, this time they can feel the passages they enter are ascending slowly. Soon they begin to hear a dull constant roar that is building as they continue. One of the dwarves up by Thon passes back the word that they are coming to an underground waterway and waterfall.

Another 10 mins finds them exiting the passage into a large cavern where they stand upon a wide ledge running along side another deep chasm, to their right the ledge continues towards a 100’ tall waterfall which fills the air with so much noise that conversation is almost impossible without yelling into a person’s ear. The dwarves warn them with gestures to be careful that the ledge here, though 10’ wide, is slippery with moisture.

The group makes their way slowly along towards the waterfall; the ledge seems to head right alongside the waterfall and they can see the water plummeting down into the darkness. Below in this chasm there is none of the glowing moss and only darkness below.

Billy's throws of the grapple and rope across the chasm is met with limited success.; it takes him 8 times before he gets a purchase that doesn’t pull free. On a couple of those attempts the rope did come close to the glowing ring that surrounds the bridge; this caused Siliwen to hold her breath each time but the ring had no reaction to the nearness of the rope.

Billy tested the hook’s hold by pulling on the rope but it ‘seemed’ to be held fast; Now the question was, who was going to attempt to cross the rope first?

Hopefully, one day, we can get this train back on the track and on it's way!

I agree, another DM is not going to work here it if isnt one of the two running the current game. If someone does want to DM a ST game then it should be a totally new game. This one wouldnt be the same without the original authors.

As for the disturbance in the force it now seemed not to be the actual ship, more the technology used in it, new technology, never seen by this galaxy before. The ship it's self had an inviting feeling about it, the very force said to him 'Fly this ship, this ship is good.' but at the same time it said 'Don't trust the makers.'

Ronan Bruel felt the ship was the most beautiful fighter he had ever saw, despite the feeling he had that something was wrong with it. Not something directly, if it flew as well as it looked then it would be marvelous, but something in it’s design, it’s technology.

‘Could this be related to the Vong?’ he thought to himself.

He continued to look over the ship and he delved deep into the force looking for anything that might tell him it something was derived from Yuuzhan Vong biotech.

‘What is your secret?’ he asked the ship mentally.
