Subject: End of combat...

Alea straightens and calls out in a voice filled with conviction. "Correllon, Father of the Elves, Defender of Elvin Kind, and Any Good Deity of Nature, Grant your blessing on us all, companions and wolves alike. Some Evil uses these creatures of nature to do their evil.

And if there is anyway to move her spear to shield Siliwen, she will do so. Her only other option, when she can move, is to use her body to block Siliwen from any frontal attack.

The entire group feels a warm tingling sensation as the blessing of Correllon surrounds them. The lone wolf left in the camp is also enveloped in a light colored glow which causes the wolf to whimper slightly. After a few seconds the glow fades and the red glow in the wolf’s eyes fades away leaving a more normal color. The wolf looks at the party members (Riddle, Siliwen and Alea) before it and turns and with it’s tail between it’s legs flees off through the brush.

Billy swung and missed the passing wolf and found his sword buried in the dirt. 'That will certainly take the edge off and need fixing later.' he thought to himself. As he pulled his sword free he noticed two thing; first, the wolves continued to ignore the fighters and second, a strange man was standing a short distance away. He realized that the others probably could not see the man for he himself could barely see him over the bushes. He watched for a moment and saw the man never moved and seemed focused on the party. Then Billy noticed the eyes, red and firey like those of the wolves. "Blasted, sneaky mage!!" Billy roared as he charged at the stranger, intent on doing the one thing he knew would stop a mage: sever his head.

As Billy rushes through the brush he can see that he is too far away from the tall figure to reach him quickly. The figure looks right at Billy and the red glow in it’s eyes diminishes but does not fade away completely.

Seeing the large man rushing towards it, the figure turns and slips down to all fours and runs quickly away from him loping along much like a large wolf. Billy realizes that he will never catch it as it is much faster than he. He did get a better glimpse of it as it turned to leave.

It’s didn’t look like any ‘man’ he had ever seen; it appeared to be naked with dark black oily skin, there didn’t appear to be any hair on it anywhere, it’s head had a ridge that ran down through the top from front to back, and it’s face had two eyes, two slits where it’s nose should be and a lipless v-shaped mouth. Definitely nothing like he had ever seen before back on his world.

Then Thor heard Billy, who was next to him in their line and who could see much farther into the brush than Thor could, suddenly yell out Blasted, sneaky mage!! and take off running into the brush that was in front of them.

Thor could not see what he was yelling about but if there was a mage in that direction he was not going to let Billy blindly charge into a battle with him alone. Watching to see where Billy was heading into the brush, Thor makes a break in the same general direction but he angles off slightly so he can approach whatever or whoever Billy is charging, from Billy's right. Trying his best to make haste and to keep Billy in sight off to his left but at the same time trying to use his short stature to his advantage by keeping low and the bushes and brush will help conceal him.

As he watches Billy run strait at whatever he saw he hoped that would keep whoever focused on Billy, and Thor hoped he could find who or whatever was Billy's target By keeping the big man in sight so he could find the target without being noticed.

Thor came out of the brush only to se the tail end of some creature, much like a large hairless wolf without a tail, loping along away from Billy out of range of any attack. He came up next to Billy panting as they both watched it running swiftly across the plain.

Alea stood guard over Siliwen, the wolves would not get to her except through the Cleric. She keeps her eyes moving to watch for any sort of attack from any direction. Her spear is ready to swing into action. Using it was the best choice of weapon she had to use against the wolves, because she could set it and that allowed her to use the weight and speed of the attacking wolves against themselves.

Alea found herself without any attackers as the last of the wolves that attacked them ran off in confusion. She did see Billy and Thor rush off through the woods as if in pursuit of someone or something.

"You will not get me without a fight, whoever you are. And I promise full retribution on whoever you are for using these wolves so." Siliwen rages against the night.

She watches as the last attacking wolf ran off, apparently under it’s own control once again. As she finished her statement of revenge she saw a faint glowing form taking shape a few yards in front of her. It quickly coalesced into a glowing apparition of her mentor, Joriel.

“Retribution?“ He asked sarcastically, “It was you who left me for dead.” His arm rose and he pointed a finger at her.

“It will be you who will feel my vengeance!” He screams at her then fades with an evil sounding chuckle.

No one besides Siliwen saw this vision of her former, supposedly dead, mentor.

Sam’s Place – Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 10:33am

The blonde man sat, the other remained standing, watching MDK’s every move like a cat ready to pounce on a tense mouse.

“I’ve got a gig for you if you’ve got the cohunes. It pays big, by way of five figures. I was told you weren’t the type to just jump at money, so I’ll paint you a picture. Ten people need to wind up dead. Ten very specific people. You don’t even have to do the killing, just get the people to a particular local and you get paid. Two grand for each person with a kicker of four for the tenth. That’s twenty-two grand to just arrange a…meeting. What say you?”

Mae had his eyes on the blond man before him but his target reticule was still locked on his bodyguard. Hearing the man’s offer he didn’t expect trouble but it didn’t hurt to be cautious.

He thought over the offer the man was giving him, the money was good and he could use it, but there was the matter of the other job which wouldn’t pay him anything really. He took a slow sip of his coffee and as he did he looked up and saw Lightning across the room looking around the place. The Tech was anything but subtle, as he was obviously looking for someone.

“Well the pay sounds good,” he said to the blonde man, “but who are the invited guests?”

(Reply.. Though I can imagine who it might be. )

MDK nods slightly at the info. He had received a message a few minutes ago telling him who he had to meet at the Red Lantern later.

“And whom might you be working for that would want these people dead.” he asked and added before the man could reply, “I like to know who is paying my bill.”

(Whatever the reply)

“Tell me where and when this ‘meeting’ is to take place,” he said dryly, “If a meeting can be arranged then I will let you know… leave me your number.”

The waitress arrived with his breakfast and he asked for a refill on his coffee, once she was gone he turned back to the man as he picked up his utensils.

“I wont guarantee that I will do the job,” he said looking down at his food, “but I will look into it and if I take the job I will call you about the ‘meeting’.”

He began to eat his food apparently turning his attention from the two men, his business for now concluded.
After the men leave he will raise his head and whistle sharply to get Lightning’s attention and wave him over. Once he sits he will tell the waitress to give him whatever he wants to eat, on Mae of course.

Mae will tell Lightning briefly about the message he had received and who they were looking to meet at the Red Lantern later. If Lightning saw the two men he was with when he came in, Mae would just tell him that they had wanted to hire him for another job and he had told them he would consider it.

He would concentrate on eating and indulge in only small talk with the Tech. After they were done he would pay the bill and looking at his watch head outside to hail a cab.

Red Lantern Restaurant – East Marina – Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 12:05pm

MDK and Lightning were the last two to arrive at the noon meeting at the Red Lantern. Neither man knew who they were looking for specifically, but MDK had received a brief description on his phone that morning while waiting at the café and it was pretty easy to match that description with Croaker and Peacekeeper. Beside’s which: he’d heard of Peacekeeper, had even seen pictures of her in the Solo of Fortune magazine, though the story hadn’t been on her, she’d received brief recognition for her part in bringing down a rather infamous criminal. The piece had been on bounty hunters, and though she wasn’t the main story, a brief mention in Solo of Fortune was something. Another individual that stood out at that table was the large black fellow. MDK felt he knew that man by reputation as well, and if he were right all those hours with his ear pressed tightly to the ground had just paid off. He had to be about to share lunch with Guardian, a fairly well known bodyguard if you had access to the right circles. The others at the table he didn’t recognize, except Croaker (and then only because of the description on his phone).

There was the islander with the tribal tattoos covering his face wearing medical combat armor and looking tired; the short, heavily tattooed, leather wearing tough; the cowboy who wore bandages like they were accessories; the suit who could likely charm the skin off a snake, and a slick-looking fellow in a trench coat with TechHair v.2 currently glowing with a low-intensity red out of the ends.

The two men approached the table, with MDK’s lead and Lightning following until they reached the group under the watchful eyes of the bounty hunter, bodyguard, and cowboy.

Mae showed no fear as he walked right up to the table where the group was gathered. He stopped in front of them and looked at each one in turn as if sizing them up. When his gaze paused on Peacekeeper he gave her a little nod but his face betrayed no other sign of emotion. He ended his appraisal on the Nomad, the one his intel said was called Croaker. He looked him over for a good 10 seconds then nodded to him.

“I’m MDK,” he announced, “I believe you are expecting me.”

Mae didn’t ask what the job was, or any other details for he knew that he would be told so why waste time asking now. He didn’t sit down or ask to sit, for until he knew the situation he would rather stay mobile if the need arose. He was ready for action but his outward appearance appeared relaxed though if these people were as good as he had heard they would be fooled by appearances.

Subject: Round Three .. part one

Two more wolfs come out of the brush in front of the defensive line formed by Billy, Thor and Riddle. Instead of attacking these wolfs stop just out of reach of the trio and stare at them, their glowing eyes lock on the men and they growl at them ominously. They don’t stand there long, but begin to spread out as if trying to find a safe way past the men.

"We need to Hold the line and form our circle around Siliwen they are after her not us. Lets not let them get what they are after"

Riddle falls back making his way to Siliwen. Keeping his eyes on the wolfs in front wondering if what could drive these wolves to attack and just Siliwen.

Riddle’s movement caused the wolf trying to get around his side to pause and growl at him and it continued to side slip in an attempt to get past him. But his continued strategic retreat towards Siliwen would not allow it to get past him without engaging him. The wolf didn’t come within reach of Riddle, but it continued to growl at him menacingly as it shadowed him on his right side.

“Alera see if blessing the wolves will remove the compulsion they are under." she call out

Siliwen looks up as two ne wolves enter the fray and begin to spear out. "Will they never stop coming?" First choice If they are too spread out for she uses sleep. Her desire is to affect as many as possible with her spell. Whichever one is most suitable to what she has before her. Second choice If she can get a few in one area she will cast Color Spray to stun or blind them hopefully. If she uses Color Spray she will warn them "Color Spray coming shut your eyes"

As Siliwen considered her spell options; the other wolf facing off against Thor and Billy suddenly saw an opening to the left, with Billy’s great sword still sunk deep into the ground the wolf was able to dart around him and stay out of reach of Thor. Riddle was keeping one wolf at bay so he didn’t see this wolf make a charge behind him towards Siliwen. Alea’s spear was still buried in a dead wolf so she was unable to stop the fleet wolf.

Seeing this wolf coming from her left and the growling wolf still stalking her to the right, she backed up a little as the two wolves got closer and then when they were both within the range of her spell she cast sleep at a point between them. A faint ‘thrum’ sound engulfed the area of her spell and the two wolves both fell to the ground, though the one in mid charge came to a more abrupt end. Both wolves were sound asleep on the ground.

Only one wolf remained in front of Riddle and near Alea, and when the other two went down it paused, looked at the party as if it wished to flee but struggled against some force that compelled it to move on even though it was the lone survivor of this attack.

Billy and Thor looked out for more wolves to come through the brush, none came, but thanks to Billy’s extreme height advantage he saw something that the dwarf couldn’t see over the brush. He saw a tall figure standing just outside the trees, a dark figure that was slightly taller than Billy himself. He couldn’t make out any details about the figure other than its tallness and its large red glowing eyes which mimicked those of the wolves. The figure didn’t move, it just stood out there, beyond range, watching what was transpiring within the trees.

(DM Note: Time for the remaining people (Billy, Thor, Alea) to post. No change in character damage.)

Cost you? Hmm.. how about a ham sandwich?

Seriously... you can switch to any spell you wish to cast, but be aware she has only the one wolf in front of her which is now behind the party. The others are still beyond the defensive line formed by the guys. A color spray spell there could be a problem. Now if they get past that line then a color spray could help out if she warned the group first.

If you have further questions, let me know.

Sgt Lee heard the orders given by the Lt even though he had not been addressed directly. He acknowledge with a nod to Sgt Kane and returned up the hallway to where he left Pearson and Hatherford.

“Listen up!” he spoke to the two men, “Hatherford, return to the observatory and set up a bivoc camp for the two soldiers and guard the area. Hart is in charge.” He waited for Hatherford to head back then turned to Pearson.

“Pearson.. Your with us,” Lee informed him as he waited at the intersection till the others joined them there.

Once the rest had come up, with a ‘follow me’ hand gesture to Pearson Lee would immediately start out down the passage headed south towards the Main Lab. He would check through each door before proceeding, as they made their way into the next passage.

Checking down the hall towards the Main Lab (between rooms #4 & 14) he would hug the walls ready to react instantly if the situation needed it. When (or if) they reach the Main Lab (#13) without incident, he will take up position just south of the door and signal Pearson to guard the South Hallway.

If the Lt walked up to open the door, Sgt Lee would look at Kane with a questioning look. If Kane didn’t say anything, then Lee would stop the Lt prior to him opening the door.

“Sir!” Lee addressed the Lt, “with all due respect. Let me enter first and check the room, once it is clear then the rest of you can enter.”

Lee too noticed the Lt’s disregard for his own safety. It was not solid tactics for the lead officer to enter an unsecured area. If the Lt declines his offer then Sgt Lee will stress his point again.

“Sir.. The area is unsecured and as officer in charge your place is not to put yourself in unnecessary danger.” Lee said sternly, “I think Sgt Kane will agree with me on this matter.” Lee looked at Kane for confirmation.

If the Lt gives in, then Lee will opened the door standing to the side and using cover will peer into the room. If he sees no danger then he will enter slowly checking corners, using his weapon light if necessary. If the entry is clear, then he will announce it when appropriate.

If the Lt orders him to stand aside, Lee will do so but his disappointment at the Lt’s lack of concern for the success of this mission will clearly show on his face.

Siliwen doesn't have to look far. Veering her direction another wolf is moving in full bore. It had just veered past Alea, who had used her spear against it but had not slowed the huge beast down in the slightest. Now is was clearly aiming for her. She lifts up her hand and sends the flashing spark of energy flying at it. Then as quickly as she can she prepares another Magic Missile.

A dagger of light strikes the wolf square in the chest causing it to stumble and fall, but it rises again with a charred hole in it’s chest. It takes a second to reorient itself on it’s prey and starts after her again.

The fire of fight flares in Alea, "Corellon," she cries out and lunges after the wolf going for Siliwen, the Mage had no way of protecting herself. In the heat of battle Alea turned warrior was determined to save her companion.

But before the wolf can launch itself at Siliwen; Alea catches it, thanks to the magic missile cast by the mage and stabs the wolf in the through the side with the full force of her charge. The spear pierces through the body and out the other side. With a whelp of pain the wolf hit’s the ground dead.

Riddle quickly pulling himself out under the wolfs dead body. Raises one hand to wipe the blood that now adorned his face and takes a quick survey of the surrounding area. Noticing that Alea is already on her way to help Siliwen with the wolf facing her. Trusting that between the two of them they could handle the one wolf Riddle heads into the fray with Billy and Thor, the sight of the wolf with the broken whimpering in pain sends more pangs of anguish through riddles mind he always hated to see animals hurt but one must do as needed to survive

Riddle doesn’t have to go far to find an opponent; he almost runs into a wolf rushes towards Siliwen and Alea, striking at it’s sides as it dodges to go around him. His first swing missed, but the second caught the wolf through the spine crippling it and it crashes to the ground. The cries of the wolf are pitiful to the Ranger who begins to realize that something is driving these wolf, something is making them attack this party.

Billy was about to move towards the injured wolf when several more appeared from the bushes. Strange indeed they seemed to completely ignore the fighters but focused on one behind them. "Something is not right here. These wolves are acting very unwolfy, or wolfish or wolfesque. Bah, they are just plain acting strange." Billy turned to the nearest wolf and swung his sword. He would do what he could to protect the others. "At least they die, that is a plus."

Billy swings his great sword at a wolf dodging past him but misses as the wolf moves to go around him. His sword sinks into the soft ground, burying itself half the length of the blade.

He doesn't think he is going to be fast enough as another group of wolves are already charging but to his surprise the wolves seem to be bent on getting to those who are behind him and Billy's defensive line like they have been preprogramed for a specific target. If he has the time he will grab up his weapons and automatically attack the wolf nearest to him always leading with his war ax, if not he will just grab his weapons and either stand in defense if the wolves are not past him yet and wait to attack as they approach, or if they are past him he will turn and go after them attacking when he is close enough.

Thor manages to retrieve his weapons quickly and meets the charge of a wolf headed straight for him. At the last second the wolf tries to veer past him but he is ready and swings his axe catching the wolf squarely in the face. The animal goes down but quickly struggles to get back up. It’s face covered with blood it never sees the Morningstar that crushes it skull and ends it’s suffering.

The wolf that got past Billy races through the group making a beeline towards Siliwen. Everyone else is engaged so the wolf manages to reach her, it leaps at her throat. This time the elf is on sure footing and not surprised. Siliwen manages to duck underneath the wolfs leaping attack and the animal lands past her and whirls to face her again. It stops and growls menacingly at her as it seems to be looking for a clear line for her throat.

Staring into the beast’s eyes Siliwen sees the strange red glow which brightens. She can sense a strange magic at work here. She may not be as gifted as her teacher but she knows that someone is using magic to control these wolves and forcing them to attack. For some strange reason they seem to be ignoring the others unless they get in the way of their attack on her.

The glow in the wolfs eyes is almost hypnotic to her, she feels a strange compulsion to drops her guard and let the wolf have a clear shot at her throat. She shakes her head at the bizarre thought and the feeling wanes.

Meanwhile, two more wolfs come out of the brush in front of the defensive line formed by Billy, Thor and Riddle. Instead of attacking these wolfs stop just out of reach of the trio and stare at them, their glowing eyes lock on the men and they growl at them ominously. They don’t stand there long, but begin to spread out as if trying to find a safe way past the men.

With his weapons in his hands Thor has no good way to attack the wolf that has clamped it's teeth into his shoulder but on his backside and swinging an ax at ones own head does not seem like a good idea. So the Dwarf falls back on the days when his Uncle used to out the young Dwarf into the wrestling ring. Dropping his weapons at his sides Thor reaches back and getting as good of a grip as he may in any way that he can either by wrapping his arms across the animals head or just grabbing two good handfulls of fur, once that is acomplished Thor will attempt to, by using the stregnth in his arms and upper body swing, or flip the beast up and over his shoulder using an old wrestling move he knows. If it works and the wolf lets go of him he will try to toss it as far from himself as he can so maybe he can scoop up at least his war ax.

Thor is successful by dropping his weapons at his side, reaching over his back he manages to grab a good hold on the wolf’s fur. Because of the Dwarf’s shorter height the wolf is not dangling off of his back as in the case of Billy, but the wolf’s hind feet are still on the ground lessening the weight on Thor. He heaves with all his strength whipping the wolf over his head, causing the wolf’s teeth to rip out of his shoulder (causing further damage after the bite) and he flings the beast off into the brush hearing it yelp loudly as it smacks into a tree in its course.

Riddle thinking quickly wedges his off hand blade in between the wolf and Siliwen yelling out at the same time "try and keep one alive." He then stabs at the wolf with his primary hand. Using the other blade to slash at the wolfs throat hoping to end this beast as quickly as possible.

Riddle bars the wolf’s way with one blade while he uses the other to slash its throat. It isn’t difficult since the wolf is atop him, the blade is already in between their bodies and the wolf is so intent on getting to Siliwen that it almost ignores him. That is until it feels Riddle sharp blade at its throat. The blade cuts deeply and blood flows quickly and covers Riddle as he lays under the beast. The wolf stops and looks down at the Ranger, bares it teeth as if it is going to try and rip his throat out. Hatred glowing in it’s red eyes; then the light fades and the beast collapses atop Riddle momentarily pinning him under it’s weight.

More wolves come through the brush headed towards the party; Billy and Thor find several headed in their direction and will have no problem finding a target. They will notice that the wolves seem bent on trying to get past them as if they have a predetermined target and it is one of the others behind their defensive line.

(Initiative: Party then wolves, they failed miserably. In the future we will use conditional posts especially if you have initiative after the opponents. The post of Billy, Siliwen and Alea are early but no matter, your group has initiative and I would rather they be early than late. I will use these posts for the beginning of Round two. Siliwen and Alea have declared targets so their posts are fine, Billy didn’t have an opponent when he posted so I will assume he attacks one of the ones charging towards him unless he wishes to declare otherwise. Billy ignores the wolf that is obviously injured and focuses the one that is trying to tear out his throat. Unable to bring the blade of his sword to bear on the wolf he instead places the pommel square in the wolf's back, between the shoulder blades, and squeezes the beast in a bear hug. His plan is to either suffocate the beast or break its back.

Billy’s ‘bear hug’ has the desired effect upon the wolf clamped onto his shoulder; it loosens it’s bite and struggles to break free but Billy’s strength is far greater than even this large wolf. As he continues his squeeze the wolf begins to howl in pain and soon a sharp snap is heard and the wolf goes limp in his arms.

Siliwen, still on the ground prepares another Magic Missle strike against the beast facing Riddle. If she could catch several together facing her she would use Color Spray but not for now. She was saving that for multiple targets.

It was an inelegant position for a wizard she thought, but she could not risk messing up her spells by trying to get up. At least she could stay out of Riddle's way down here.

Siliwen moved her legs until they were under her so she make as small a target as possible. More like a lump on the ground than a body sprawled out as it had been when she fell.

Siliwen prepares her spell and adjust her position but she is not confident that she can fire off her magic missile without hitting Riddle who is engaged with the wolf that is trying to get to her. Normally her spell is unerring in it’s accuracy but with the wolf atop Riddle and their thrashing around she is afraid that part of Riddle’s body may get in the path of the missile and strike him instead of the wolf.

But as she crouches there looking for an opening she hears another growl and a wolf comes charging at her out of the woods, its red glowing eyes lock on her as it bears down on her.

(It will not reach her this round)

Alea does not have time to be frightened, she quickly looks about grabs the spear and pulls it out of the big wolf, wiggling it to do more damage as she does. Then she will set the spear for the next attack by a wolf.

If she cannot clear the spear in time she will draw her sword and ready herself for the next attack by a wolf.

The wolf impaled on Alea’s spear dies and the feeling of evil dies with it, no it fades for she doubts that the evil is truly dead, just no longer in control of his beast. Yes, that is how it feels to her; the evil is controlling these beasts and not normally a part of them.

She manages to withdraw the spear from the dead wolf just as another wolf comes charging out of the woods towards her; she sets her spear for a leap but the wolf doesn’t leap, instead it suddenly veers away from her and tries to streak past her towards Siliwen. The wolf passes close enough so that she manages to jab her spear at it’s side but only scores a minor wound on the wolfs flank. It yelps in pain but ignores its wound as it seems hell-bend on going after Siliwen.

Spinning on his heels to see about the wolf that had slipped between himself and Billy, Thor finds that it is impaled upon the spear of Alea who had set it to meet the wolfs charge great move. Of the other two wolves that had come at them one was wounded and lying with it's back legs now useless. However the second of the two was now hanging from Billy's shoulder it's teeth sunk deep into his flesh. Billy has his great sword in both hands and across the wolf’s back in an attempt to breaks its grip by breaking its back. With the two locked in so close a struggle Thor feel it should be no problem to help Billy. He of course wants to be sure his attack will in no way endanger Billy but with the size of the wolf that should really not be a problem. However just to be sure Thor positions himself in such a way that the swinging of his axe should in no way endanger Billy.

Before Thor can start his swing he hears the crack of the wolf’s spine and watches it go limp in Billy’s arms. Just then a heavy weight crashes into his back and he feels a bite sink into his left shoulder. Despite the speed and weight of the charging wolf, the dwarf maintains his stance and only staggers forward a step. He had been embarrassed in the last battle by being knocked off his feet; he is bound and determined to not let that happen here. The large wolf growls as it sinks its teeth into his shoulder doing only minor damage yet the blood flowing down his chest would belie the seriousness of his wound.

(OOC: A chance for Thor to adjust his post accordingly, and time for Riddle to post then I will post a final round post along with a damage update and initiative for the next round.)

(Dragonmist, I answered your questions in the Q&A thread.)

Sgt Lee stood in the center of the connecting passage to the observatory area and he saw when the two men came out with the Lt and joined the others.

“Pearson, Hatherford,” he called out to them, NOT on the comm, “Fall back to this doorway and guard this hallway.” He directed them to the entrance to the passage to the observatory so they could see the entire connecting passage (#15).

Once they fall back to there he repeats his earlier orders, “Any thing attacks, take cover and return fire only if given permission.”

Once they acknowledge that, he will move back down the passage towards the observatory and the rest of the squad until he can see the Staff Sgt.

“Sgt,” he calls out softly so as not to frighten the two new guys, “Orders?”

Vatta was watching Cerric closely to his reaction to her words; she smiled at the little pause and the flash she saw in his eyes. She could imagine that he was going to say that a priest such as him would use the book to create water and hence would not be dying of thirst. What he didn’t realize was that she was not referring to him or any priest. Of course a man able to create water by magic would not die, what she had said was directed to any ordinary man. She saw him give up on the argument even though he didn’t complete agree with her.

“Yes,” she said to him, “there are more important things but I what you to know I did not say these things to slight you or your faith. If I have offended you, I apologize.” She bowed her head slightly but her face still maintained the slightest little smirk that said she didn’t think she had offended him but offered the apology anyway.

Vatta too raised her mug to Lorae’s toast, and even to the whispered one that her keen elvin ears picked up. She didn’t know these people what Lorae mentioned but she could tell by the reverence the woman had for them that they were dear to her and no longer with her. She too had many fallen comrades, most she didn’t think about any more, it was best not to dwell in the past.

She too noticed Logan’s solitude and watched as he left the Tavern. She almost thought to follow him but then shrugged it off, he obviously had issues he needed to deal with himself and wanted to be alone. He might resent anyone intruding upon his privacy.

Vatta chuckled at Cerric toast to her, she nodded to him and raised her mug and drank again. “You never know, “ she said softly, “long life can be a curse in some ways.” She smirked.

When the large kettle came in she got up and grabbed a bowl, “Am I starved!” She said as she dished out a heaping bowl and returned to her seat. “Dirty work always makes me hungry.”

Subject: The Plan...

Varuna nods at En’Aranthea’s plan, it sounded like a good one to him. Besides he had to trust others to make such plans, what did he know about storming a fortification. While the tower where the pirates were holding up was small, it was still a fortification of sorts. He knew little of fighting, his weapons mainly for protection, he knew when to seek council from those outside his own bailiwick.

“It sounds good to me,” he said, “but I can not guarantee that the lizard folk will listen to me but I will try to persuade them if I can.” He agreed with something Val’lendara said about maybe they could take the pirates without fighting if they had far superior numbers.

If everyone else agrees to the plan, he will ready himself to follow En’Arahthea or Tal, though he hopes it is En‘Aranthea. He likes her abhorrence to needless killing while it seems that Tal enjoys killing a bit too much. He will take his weapons with him but he will leave his backpack and things behind. He makes sure to bring the dagger that the female Sla’kar gave him, it might come in handy.

“I am ready whenever you are,” he addresses whomever is going to escort him through the swamp, “we best get going as I don’t know how long it will take to locate the Sla’kar.” Having dealt with the lizard folk in the past, he might recognize signs and such in the swamp that might lead them to the Sla’kar but he cant be sure.

While he waits he is saddened by Val’lendara’s proclamation that she wishes to kill the pirates for what they have done. When she looks to him he nods to her, showing his understanding of her pain, she can see it reflected in his own eyes. But beneath it is a sheen of peace and tranquility now, for he had made his own peace with the issue.

“Revenge is not the answer,” he said to her softly as En’Aranthea held her hand to calm her fears, “the punishment for their crimes will be bestowed by the Gods and trust in them that it will be far, far worse then the heinous crimes they have committed here.”

Subject: Posting order

(OOC: Now I do have a question that I am going to post here because the answer is about our battle here. above I have laid out my actions for my next round. However both Billy ans the wolf are going to act before I do so it is possible that Billy finishes the wolf off in his bear hug, or at least causes it to release him in which case it may be in a different position so actually by the time it is my segment of this round the actions posted above may be useless so is it alright to post two actions with one going into effect if the situation changes before it actually becomes my turn? or if I'm not sure what may change can the post I put up actually be changed to meet the new situation because you know it would be impossible to wait and for everyone to actually post in the order of initiative although that would be nice. Thanxs )

Dragonmist: Yes to both.

Yes it would be ideal if everyone would post in the initiative order, but that can be difficult people have to wait for others to post, etc.

We can do that if everyone is in agreement. It would be easier for the combat flow.

Dragonmist: You can change your post afterwards, I will have a post for the wolves and the results of the ones with initiative before the wolves, and then a later post for those after the wolves. If you wish you can remove your post and wait until your turn, it is all up to you.

Everyone: I would like to hear from everyone about posting in initiative order. If that is fine with all, then that would be preferred.

Vatta smirked slightly at the scholar’s familiarity and the way his hand brushed down the smooth, soft, yet finely toned muscles of her arm. She took another sip of her ale as he took a seat next to her then she leaned forward slightly towards him.

“You have a lot to learn young sageling,” she said with a chuckle, “books can be valuable to the right buyer, but that does not make them the most prized items ever.”

“A man dying of thirst in the desert,” she says to him sounding like a teacher speaking to a young student, “would gladly give up that book of knowledge for a drink of water.”

“When you have lived as long as I have,” she says with a grin, “maybe you will see that knowledge is great, but maybe it is wisdom that a man should truly seek.”

Vatta chuckles at Cerric obviously flattery, “Why thank you noble sir,” she responses in jest, “I was just doing my job in protecting such a valuable vessel of knowledge.” She laughed aloud and took another sip of her ale.

Subject: Combat Round one

The battle enraged dwarf faces off against a wolf almost as large as himself; Thor stands his ground as the wolf leaps at him. Swinging his dwarven war axe he hits the beast solidly on the side of the neck he feels the razor sharp blade bite deep, but before the wolf can utter a sound the dwarf’s left hand brings the Morningstar into solid contact with the wolf’s skull. The combine assault sends the beast’s blood flying as the head rolls free and the headless body crashes into Thor staggering him only slightly before he regains his balance.

Surprisingly the wolves facing off with Billy don’t appear to understand his taunting words; they separate slightly and leap at him from different angles and timing. He swings his great sword and catches the first wolf in the side cutting it deeply and flinging it to the side with the force of the blow. The wolf howls and tries to rise to it’s feet but it’s back legs drag and it is unable to stand.

Before Billy can recover and swipe at the second one, it crashes into his chest and he feels it’s teeth clamp down on his right shoulder just missing his throat. The weight of the wolf staggers him slightly, but he stands his ground and the wolf hangs on with it’s teeth dangling from his shoulder, it’s feet scraping against his chest causing very minor wounds. Billy realizes that at this close range he can’t swing his sword to strike this wolf clinging tightly to his chest.

Siliwen didn’t hurt herself when she fell, well maybe her pride hurt alittle, but the fall did save her from an almost certain attack by the wolf. (Even an elf can stumble and fall when they are surprised and fumble at the same time. )

With Riddle holding his ground in front of the wolf that almost got her, she quickly casts her spell and a ‘dagger of light’ streaks across the intervening space to strike the large wolf in the chest. The creature howled at the injury and ignoring Riddle it locks it’s red glowing eyes on her and leaps at her.

Riddle quickly jumps in front of the wolf and slashes at it with his two swords, crossing the blades before him he scores two hits but in so doing he takes the full brunt of the wolfs leap. They both go down, the wolf howling in rage rather than pain tries to get over the top of Riddle as it still tries to go after Siliwen. The creature’s red eyes are still locked on the small elvin woman and she can almost feel hate emanating from it.

The attack on Alea is so swift that she barely has time to cast the bless spell upon the entire party and set her spear before the beast leaps at her. The wolf takes the point of her spear in it’s gut and it howls as it falls to the side the spear embedded halfway through it’s body. Alea too will notice the red glowing eyes of the wolf, something not normally seen in such a creature and she can feel something the others can not. A strange evil presence, very faint, but none the less it is definitely there, inside the wolf dying at her feet.

The party can sense and hear more wolves coming through the brush towards them.

Yea.. maybe we will see.. I am sure that the the Chief Security Officer would welcome her aboard but he is stuck at the moment waiting on a post from the Capt, who I think is waiting on a post from someone else, the XO maybe.

Things have kind of ground to a halt as everyone is waiting on posts from someone else, most of those being the GM. Hopefully things will start moving along soon. I think this adventure has some real potential and I see alot of talented Rpers just waiting to post.

While Vatta waited on the meal to come, she did indulge in a little drinking, though she would not be imbibing as much as the Brianna or Highnar for sure. She ordered a simple mug of ale for now and watched and laughed as the others celebrated their victory.

Vatta raised her mug to Brianna’s toast and drank heartily. They did indeed make a good group and they had overcome superior odds though strategy and bravery. She had to admit that they warriors were all superior to many she has seen so far, and no doubt most of the praise was theirs this day. True, her bow had helped, but other than that her skills had mainly gone unused on this quest. But she had survived again and that is what mattered.

She chuckled at Cerric when he asked about the spoils, “I didn’t think you valued such things,” she said jestingly, “I thought your order prized knowledge and books, but I don’t think we found any of those today.” She winked at him to show she was only kidding.

Vatta laughs at Xuor’s big toast and hopes the ale hasn’t already gone to his head; she raises her mug in toast and drains the last of it. She gestured to the maid to bring her another mug of ale; she would be patient about her meal as it would arrive in due course. For now she might just sit here and have a few drinks and maybe get to know these people who are still a little more than strangers even after what they went through today.

Subject: Varuna's decision...

Varuna looked up at Tal and the torment in his eyes at what he had almost done to their captive was still visible. He started to reply but paused and dropped his eyes to the ground; Tal was right. His goddess did frown greatly upon the taking of any life, but it was allowed if there was no other choice and as long as the cause was just then the priest was usually forgiven for what would be a slight transgression.

But Varuna still thought that he needed to restrain from killing any of these bandits as a penance for nearly breaking his vow to his goddess by killing the captive. Yet, he realized that he was choosing this penance, he was deciding what punishment he should endure for his failure. Lysora, The Sacred Mother, would decide his punishment if she warranted it. Who was he to pronounce the mind of a Goddess?

Looking back up to Tal, he stood up straight now, placed his hat back on his head and nodded to the warrior, “You are right!” His voice steady and firm, “I will do my job, and I will only kill if there is no other choice,” he stated glancing over to En’Aranthea to accent her point about killing, “but if there is need then that too is the will of the gods.”

He looked around at all of the party, “I do not wish to overstep my bounds and insinuate that I know battle better than a warrior but wouldn’t it be best if we could approach without being detected?” He smiled slightly at his obvious little joke.

“I can not make our group invisible,” he adds, "but I can make it so they will not -hear- our approach.”
