Being a healer... normally I would have waited till the warriors acted before posting.. but I saw my chance and took it.

Varuna hates bloodshed and will do whatever he can to avoid it if possible.

If his spell works you warriors will still have one to fight over who gets to kill him.

Varuna bows his head slightly to the Sla'kar when she grants them passage through the swamp, "Many Thanks, we will rid the tower of these vermin."

When she withdrew a knife and offered it to him he paused and almost didn’t accept it, but he knew how easily these people could take offense so he took the dagger gently by the pommel.

“You are most generous, Thank you!” He said as he noted the fine workmanship of the knife, it’s dull gray blade looked like stone but looked as sharp as steel but much lighter.

As the Sla’kar turned to leave he said his goodbye, “And may She who birthed all people protect and heal you.”

He looked at the knife once more before taking out a cloth from his bag, wrapped the knife in it and tucked it away in his backpack.

Looking at the others he smiled slightly, “Guess we are free to proceed to the lighthouse now, I don’t think they will bother us any further.”

As they walked through the swamp he often mumbled prayers to the Sacred Mother for guidance on this quest. He knew she would not steer him wrong.

---

As they start to leave the swamp he is grateful, he doesn’t much care for the muck and filth, and he is glad to see drier land ahead. When they emerge on the land he smiles, they shouldn’t be far from the lighthouse he thinks.

Suddenly he catches sight of movement as the dirty, raggedly dressed men step out into view just ahead. He thinks at first that maybe they two are lost or possible men who escaped from whatever is happening at the lighthouse. But when one of the men shouts and they take off running and firing crossbows back at them, he knows that these are the enemy.

He doesn’t seem as surprised as the others, and seeing them split up he decides to take action. His hand quickly reaches into his belt pouch and pulls out a iron nail with his right hand as his left goes to the little Golden thorn-less rose symbol hanging around his neck. A quick prayer escapes his lips as he points the nail at the man closest to them as he silently asks the Sacred Mother to stop their attacker in his tracks.

He figures if they can question one of them they might find out what is going on and therefore prevent further bloodshed. He knows that the warriors would only charge after the men and more than likely kill them before they could talk to them. Warriors were often too impulsive.

(OOC: Hold person on one target only. If successful, he will shout to the party the following…… )

“Don’t attack that one, I have him.” He shouts quickly to keep anyone from killing him.

Gear ready, weapons loaded, Sgt Lee reclined on a bunk with his eye closed relaxed but not sleeping as he waited for the call to move out!

He could hear others talking in the room but while his brain took it in he didnt react to anything .... until he heard one of the new guys talking to the W/O.

A lone eyelid cracked open a bit and looked in that direction, a faint smirk came to his lips. He watched as the Staff Sgt walked over and asked the Cpl to join him outside the barracks. Lee could only shake his head and close his eyes again as he knew the Cpl was about to get a major dressing down for his behaviour thus far.

Not the best way to start out on a mission, but Lee had seen worse.

As he played the tune on his flute, Varuna was surprised when El’Aranthea joined in with words which seemed to fit the tune he was playing. He didn’t remember the name of this tune, or if he had heard the words before, but the sound of El’Aranthea’s voice overshadowed his music. Her singing didn’t require music, in fact it sounded as if it had it’s own music floating through the air carrying the words to the ears of the listeners. Varuna didn’t speak or understand Sylvari all that much, having been raised by humans and learning only a little Syl now and then; but he did pick up enough of her words to understand that it was a love ballad and it had something to do with the sea.

When the music ended he put down his flute and applauded her singing, “Marvelous! Simply Marvelous!” his voice filled with awe and admiration.

Varuna understood the Captains hesitation in approaching the shore, and when they left the ship he thanked the Captain and prayed to the Goddess to grant them a safe trip home. When they had to get out of the boat into the water he takes his pack out of the boat and rests it on his head. Balancing the pack with one hand as he gathered up the hem of his robe trying to keep it from getting too soaked.

Upon shore he straps his pack back on his back and checking his gear and weapons to ensure they are in their proper place, he heads off after the others letting the warriors lead the way. Varuna had no delusions about fighting, he could fight and indeed he never ran from a fight when it was necessary, but the Goddess demanded that he not take a life unless it was unavoidable.

When the javelin landed in the ground ahead of the group, he stopped and looked around the area searching for any attack. He was glad when a single Sla’kar stepped out and told them to halt. It was a good sign; the javelin could have been sticking into one of them and if a sla’kar wanted to talk it was unusual.

When challanged by creature who had stooed out of the brush she stops and waits with the others thought she say says softly in sylvari, "I don't think this is as it should be."

While Varuna only caught a part of what Val said he understood that she didn’t think things were right, well he couldn’t disagree there. He didn’t reach for any weapons, he only kept his hands at his sides in plain view, but he flexed his fingers slightly to loosen them up, just in case he needed to cast something.

“We are seeking a path to the lighthouse beyond you; our ship could get no closer in safety. We mean you no harm, nor do we seek to trespass on your lands, “she stated quietly and calmly.

He listened to El’Aranthea speak softly to the Sylvari, and nodded his head slightly; while she was a warrior she was also a statesman, and seemed to know what to say and how to say it.

The sla'kar regards the party with an unreadable expression for several moments before speaking. "You sspeak truth," it states in a lisping accent. "Came on sship."

It pauses for a moment, almost thoughtfully, before retrieving the thrown javelin from the earth. "Keeperss of the lighthousse have been misssing for one full moon and half of another. Other humanss build tower, firess, kill wariorss." With this last statement, her disposition shifts toward angriness.

The sla'kar fixes En'Aranthea with a reptilian stare. "Beware, ssylvari. Dirty humanss patrol often, keep watch, esspecially around tower. Sstrong wariorss they are, ruthlesss."

He relaxed a bit as the Sla’kar spoke, it seemed to be offering them information on their quest, and it’s last statement spoke of an opportunity of passage. He stepped forward slowly to stand next to El’Aranthea, he raised his hands in front of him to show he held no weapons. Continuing to raise his hands he made a gesture in the air with both hands, looking as if he were offering a invisible gift to the sla’kar; a gesture that he had learned in one of his visits to the lands of the sla’kar when he was doing missionary work for his temple. The gesture as a friendly greeting among their kind, one that would speak to them that he knew their ways.

“Ke’molsss ta nalzzzz” He spoke with a greeting, one of only a few phrases in their tongue that he could remember; a greeting in which, loosely translated, meant ‘swamp friend’.

“As the Lady has said, we mean you no harm Noble Warrioress,” he continued in his normal tougue; acknowledging the fact that he knew her people enough to recognize her as a female. “Our mission is to seek out those who have been causing trouble at the lighthouse and if they are the same dirty humans who have harmed your people, then they are our enemies as well.”

He gestured slightly at the others with him, “If you will grant us safe passage to the lighthouse and back out again, then we will do what we can to stop those in the tower who have killed your warriors and intrude upon your great swamp.”

While he waited for her response, he tried to project a calm aura around him, nothing magical, just his faith in the will of the Goddess and his desire to do good.

Well.. checked my Half-Sylvaris Csheet and realized that I didnt have my languages on there... oops.

On that note I would think that he could perhaps know some common words and phrases but I agree that he wouldnt be able to speak or understand it as well as a full Sylvari. Maybe he is learning?

For now I will assume in my post that he understands some Sylvari, but not all.

My original C sheet had half-elf on it, that was before I knew that you called them Sylvari in this world, sorry!

(Edit addition):

Here is a thought! What if instead of learning his languages he kind of knows a little bit of various languages of many different races. Nothing to carry on a conversation, but standard greetings, common phrases and sayings? Stuff like that!

What do you say DM?

Vatta curses again, “why wont they just die already!” she says softly. Seeing that the group seems to be holding their own so far, she decides not to change her tactic or target.

Once again she draws her arrows and goes after the big orc, firing off three quick shots with her bow. She is determined to bring down that large orc, sure that if one of their leaders fall it will hurt morale and maybe cause some of them to break and run. She hopes.

Ziv hung on for dear life as Mercury sent the speeder zooming off down the street away from the battle, but he kept his eyes on the three they were leaving behind. He hated leaving any of them behind, he had started to think of them as comrades, sort of decent folks, and it just didn’t set right watching the scene fade into the distance.

The last he saw of another explosion near the Jedi, obscuring him from sight. He thought he saw another fall from a blaster bolt, but it was too distant to tell who it was, Damanil or Dime.

His gaze looked past the conflict and could just see a hover tank move into the area, no doubt the TDF Riot team. He knew now that the three they left behind would surely be captured.

Ziv suddenly realizes that Jaal is talking on the speeders comm and having lost sight of the battle turns his head slightly to listen while keeping an eye out for pursuit. He cant help but feel for Jaal, Jeena seemed to be a good girl and to have died needlessly like that made Ziv’s blood boil with anger.

Hearing him blame his father for the attack, and to hear the reply which didn’t deny it, Ziv shook his head and sighed. He sensed that the old man had a problem with Jedis but he didn’t know that he would jeopardize his son’s life to attack someone he didn’t really know.

He hangs on again as Mercury jams on the brakes and starts to rant, “Easy Merc, We will have to come up with a plan but we shouldn’t do it out here in the middle of nowhere.”

He glances back the way they came, “I saw a TDF force arrive just before I lost sight of them, and Caise looked like he might have got caught in an explosion so more than likely they are all in custody now.”

Ziv turns to Jaal, “Credits are good, we will need them and maybe some help if we want a chance at getting our friends out of TDF custody.”

“I think we should find a safe place to hold up and discuss our next step,” he said looking at the remainder of their shrinking group.

Vatta's bow sings out 3 times at the intended target in the center of the 1st arrow penetrates in the left thigh, the 2nd in the right side, and the 3rd in the chest. Despite the 3 arrows the Orc just bellows in rage and moves steadily forward.

Vatta curses at the stubborn strong orc leader, ‘he just couldn’t go down easy, huh?’ she thinks as she again draws down to fire at the leader once more.

As she draws and notches the first arrow she glances down checking on Cerric, making sure he is still safe in his position. If she sees any immediate threat, such as some orcs or goblins have broken through the barrier, she will turn her attention and volley of arrows to the threat, if not she will continue to fire upon the Large Orc leader, determined to bring him down.

Subject: Question Ms DM.

You had pointed out in your previous post :

From up in the trees Vatta and Xuor can see the whole field. Vatta finally spots what seems to be the biggest Orc on the field and he seems to be bellowing commands that bring together some of the Orcs into some sort of formation. He is wearing a suit of chain mail and carries a Great Orc Double Ax.

Therefore in my action post for this round.. I posted for Vatta:

Spotting the large Orc well armored and armed as she notches another arrow, Vatta smiles and going to one knee on the limb to steady her aim, she draws a careful bead on the leader. Seeing the chain mail she aimes high, towards the throat, which this type of armor usually doesn’t cover, or the head if he isn’t wearing a helm.

In your DM post you posted:

Vatta's bow sings out 3 times and one goblin and one orc go down in the second set of attackers closing on Brianna and Highnar. Another Orc takes an arrow in the chest.

So does this mean that one of the Orcs that Vatta took down was the ‘Leader’ or Large Orc? Please clarify. Thanks!

Edit: Just remembered that you forget to check here so will send you PM as well.

Varuna sat near the railing but out of the way of the crew. He had removed his pack and sat it next to him; reaching inside he pulled out a small wooden flute.

Looking over at Val at her comment he chuckled lightly, “Yes, I love the sea, it is so peaceful out here."

Raising the flute to his lips he began to play a festive sailing tune often played in Dockside Taverns in almost every port town or city.

He seemed much happier here than he had been on the trail. Here now was a mode of travel that didn’t punish the body. He sat so he could watch the crew and the party on the deck, every once in a while casting and eye out upon the sea watching the gentle rolling of the ship.

Sgt Lee followed the others to the barracks, once there he introduced himself to the two new team members, “Sgt James Lee, Staff Sgt Kane is the senior enlisted man so you might want to talk to him.”

Leaving those two he found a bunk and began checking all his gear, getting out of the flight suits and into his normal gear and readying his weapons. After checking that everything is functioning properly, and after acknowledging the Staff Sgts Team assignments, Lee will relax until time to go.

When it is time to move out, he will be ready. Rising in time to don his armor and load up his weapons, he waits for the word to move out.

Varuna sighed when the Sailor suggested they leave their horses here, his thought exactly. Besides the lighthouse was no doubt near the water and they wouldn’t need the horse to get there, and he thought they would be safer here in town.

“I saw a public stable not far from here so an hour should be sufficient.” When the others are ready, he follows then to the stable and they make arrangements to store their mounts. He will take his personal belongings with him, packed carefully in his pack or otherwise on his person.

Walking back to the dock he whistles a happy ailing tune, “I love the sea! The best way to travel.” It is easy to guess that he prefers ships to horses.

He will let En’Aranthea, or anyone else, pay for the group, as being short on money is the norm for him.

Back at the ship, he will stop short of boarding and kneeling he will say a prayer to the Goddess for a safe journey and a safe return for all who sail upon this ship. Boarding he will find a comfortable spot and settle down out of the way.

Ziv cursed silently as he saw no speeders close by. He could go up the street to the nearest but that left too much open territory and he was sure he wouldn’t make it. He moved towards cover when…

Caise feels his senses screaming a warning, and he cries out "Get down!" A moment later, there is an odd humming, an instant before a rocket smashes into the side of the mercantile, knocking a sizeable hole into the permablock wall and filling the air with thick, acrid, black smoke.

Ziv immediately dove for cover behind a street post as the rocket zipped by and took out a wall, he got back to his feet and using the post as cover he fired at the attackers.

The fight continues, with one of the attackers popping his head out just in time to catch a lucky shot by Ziv directly to the face, and Dime himself taking a glancing shot to the leg.

“YES!” Ziv shouted as his blaster bolt took the face off of one of the attackers and he ducked back behind his cover as bolts flew in his direction.

However, the fates have not completely abandoned the party - the garage door opens to reveal the welcome sight of Jaal's ancient SoroSuub 45. As gently as possible, Mercury and Lana pull the still form of Jeena up into the speeder and usher Jaal inside, and momentarily, Mercury finds himself at the controls.

Seeing the others jump in the speeder he smiles and jumps from behind cover firing quickly at the attackers to keep their heads down, hoping that the smoke from the firefight will provide them some cover. Seeing that Dime was hit, Ziv diverts to pass him and lends a helping hand, if he wants it, to get into the speeder. “Come on, our taxi is here” he grins as he uses one arm to help Dime and the other to continue his cover fire, “and I think this neighborhood is nothing but trouble.”

Helping Dime into the speeder, he hop in himself and watches as Caise charges across the street, “HEY! WE’RE LEAVING!” He shakes his head and tries to fire at the attackers in the hopes of aiding the fool Jedi.

Varuna was famished by the time the food arrived but his disappointment in the service was soon forgotten as the meal was decent and the ale was passable for such a place. He was even more pleased when En’Aranthea delayed the trip till the next day, he sorely needed one good nights rest before heading out again.

Varuna didn’t normally sleep in rooms in Inns, not having a lot of money. Hearing one of the rooms had two beds, he spoke up, “I believe the ladies should have rooms to themselves, I require little so if there is no objections then perhaps Tal and I can share the room with two beds.” If there were no objections, he would take his stuff upstairs after dinner to the room.

He found a small room with two small beds, a table and a chair by the window and a small table with a washbasin in the corner. It was more than adequate for him. He chose the bed on the left and laid his stuff at the foot and took off his heavy armor and mace. Comfortable he washed up in the washbasin and before retiring he knelt and silently prayed to the Goddess for guidance and wisdom on their coming journey.

Retiring to the bed he found it much better than the ground upon which they had been sleeping and soon was fast asleep. He snored slightly, a fact that might no doubt bother his roommate.

In the Morning.

He arose at first light and after praying once more, he dressed and went downstairs to only be disappointed that they didn’t serve breakfast. He wandered outside and heard a strange sort of sound, almost musical, coming from the stableyard. He approached and saw En’Aranthea whirling her blades through a complicated pattern which made the blade ‘sing’ slightly in the air. He watched her silently, not moving as he didn’t want to disturb her obvious ritual. He was fascinated at the speed at which she moved and how graceful she seemed while doing it.

As she came to the end, he quickly backed away and returned to the Inn ahead of her. He didn’t want her to feel odd about him watching her practice and thought she might consider it an affront to her beliefs.

He does take some of the jerky that was offered for their journey and thanks them, “May the Goddess bless you.” Listening to the talk of the lizardfolk, he had run into them before and didn’t care for their company. “The swamp sounds like a place we should avoid, though I wonder if they might be responsible for the lighthouse troubles being so close and all.”

Varuna likes the idea of the ship, “Excellent idea, I wholeheartedly agree.” He liked sailing himself, much preferred over riding horses. “It might be hard getting a ship to take horses, they are usually trouble and not many have the room for them. But we can always ask.”

When the others were ready, he gathered his things and headed out to the stables, throwing his things on the horse and strapping them down, he mounted and followed the others down towards the dock, if that was their destination.

Ah, a sea voyage, even a little one, was very welcome.

Seeing the chain mail she aimes high, towards the throat, which this type of armor usually doesn’t cover, or the head if he isn’t wearing a helm.

As she takes aim, thoughts run through her head. The battle seems to be going well thus far with many of the enemy down and all of their group still on their feet. Right now, her thoughts turn to hitting the leader and possibly taking him out as soon as possible. Orcs and especially goblins, she knows are cowards at heart and mostly fight only because they are bullied by their leaders and driven into battle. Perhaps if the leader falls some of the enemy may retreat and lessen their foes and increase their odds of victory.

She lets loose the arrow and quickly notches another and lets it fly as well, giving a short prayer to whatever gods might be listening at the moment.

((OOC: Reminder: She should get three attacks/round because of the bow of speed, but I figure she could lose one shot this round because of taking extra time for a called shot. ))

James sighed at the Chief’s words, he was glad it was something easily fixed, well at least for her. He wasn’t a techie so he was glad to have someone along who knew about that stuff. He actually hated this part of the mission and couldn’t wait to land and get to the real job.

As he sat back and waited for the plane to finish it’s trip, he had to wonder how the wrong coordinates could have been entered. He had a suspicious nature and something didn’t sound right. These types of things were usually double and even triple checked, he found it hard to believe such and important thing slipped by unnoticed. He let his worries go as he slipped back to napping for the rest of the trip.

He awoke as the plane made radical maneuvers before landing, god he hated this stuff. He was ready and as soon as the plane stopped, he hit the release on his harness and was up grabbing his gear. He nods to the soldier who waited for them and followed him out into the blasting wind. He shivered as the cold seemed to drive right to the bone, but he mentally steels himself and followed him quickly to the Artic Cat.

By the time they reach the base he is a bit warmer, but he silently curses as they have to go out into the cold once again to enter the base. Once inside he drops his gear and salutes the Major when introduced. James says nothing, letting those in charge handle it. If they need his input they will ask.

Once they are through with the Major, James salutes him once again, waits to see if the LT, Chief, or Staff Sgt have any orders. If not, he will grab his things and proceed to the quarters to rest a bit. As soon as he can he will get his gear back in order, dress appropriately and make sure his gear and weapons are in tip top shape, ready for the mission.

Ziv nodded knowingly to Caise and slipped his data pad back in his pouch and chuckled at his comment about being bored, “Well to each his own.. Me I prefer some action to all this sneaking about and not knowing where we are going.”

He followed the Jedi to the others and followed along watching as they finished up their shopping. He hadn’t found anything interesting to buy and nothing that he really needed. He chuckled at Dime’s enthusiasm about his musical purchase. Ziv never did have any talent for music, he tried once when he was a kid but his skills tended towards fixing things and tinkering. To him the hum of a well tuned hyper drive was music to his ears.

He smiled when they met up with Jaal and Jeena again. He had to admit it he liked them, and Jena seemed to know a lot about engines and stuff. His kind of girl. He was just noticing the blood on the front of her shirt as the attack struck.

Ziv cried out in pain as the concussion wave hit him slapping his eardrums and knocking him to the ground where he managed to scrap a few elbows and knees as he tried unsuccessfully stop his fall. As he rose to his feet, drawing his blaster at the same time, he spotted the two attackers across the street and returned fire at them trying carefully not to hit any innocents in the way. His aim is more to create cover fire and not taking careful aim to hit them, hoping to make them duck or seek cover themselves.

Coming fully to his feet he looked about for the nearest speeder or other ground transport intent on ‘borrowing’ anything to get them away from there. As he did he thought back to what he Caise had said about boredom, but he still felt exhilarated and thought this was still better than nothing.

((OOC: If there is anything available nearby, he will run to it and attempt to toss the person out and take the vehicle. If successful, he will hop in the driver seat and yell at the others. I figure it is a street and maybe someone was driving along slowly and stopped in surprise because of the explosion. Worth a shot. ))

Ziv pulled out his data pad quickly and handed it to Caise, “Hey.. I could use some excitement, it is darn boring here.”

He watched eagerly wondering what Caise had for him to work on. He ignored Lana’s glare as he beat her to the punch, ‘snooze you lose’ he thought. Besides, he didn’t have anything here to turn his attention to and he thought he might just lose it if he didn’t find something interesting to do soon.

James sat back and closed his eyes as he waited for the plane to take off. This part was boring.

When the jets really kicked in and the force of acceleration slammed his head back into the headrest it woke him with a slight curse and a gron. He must have dozed off for a moment. Once the plane smoothed out somewhat he closed his eyes again. He had always had a knack for sleeping whenever he could. One never knew when they might get to rest the next time.

The sudden warning claxon roused him again...'now what?' he thought. Seeing the red light flashing he sighed, "This doesnt look good," he mumbled.

He isnt an electronics expert so he sits tight while the LT and the Chief take control and investigate. He doesnt do anything yet, he doesnt want to get in the way, but he sits ready to lend assistance if ordered.

He wonders what sort of bailout system this plane could have aboard. Moving at this high speed and altitude makes parachuting a suicide waiting to happen.
