Subject: Tagging along

Ziv sighed when no one seemed to be paying attention to him.. he shrugged and went on following the others about the marketplace and smiling at the pretty women he passed.

His curly locks and winning smile and good looks often made him the subject of attention from females and though most of the time he didnt seek it out, it often found him.

He glanced around for Lana and caught her eye on him as he smiled and greeted the ladies, he shrugged, "Hey.. what can I say.. women love me." He grinned.

He hung back in the back of the group, glancing about every so often. He just felt like there might be some trouble since they wer travelling with someone in a TDF uniform. He definately didnt like cities on the ground, he would much prefer to be back in space. He hoped that soon they would be getting off this rock.

((OOC: Ziv is just following along hanging with the group, waiting on something to do.))

Staff Sergeant is a rank... I believe in the Army it goes.. Sergeant.. Staff Sergeant .. Sergeant First Class or is it Gunnery Sergeant.. that might be Marines only.. maybe Tann can better explain the Army ranks. But I do know that Staff Sergeant is an E6 Enlisted grade and is a rank above regular Sergeant (E5)

Vatta watches as her deadly fire takes down a total of 3 goblins caught in the entangles. She shifts her aim towards the orcs now determined to take out as many of them as she can. She knows that the orcs are the leaders, goblins being smaller and weaker than orcs are always servants of someone stronger, usually orcs.

She quickly glances around once again looking for any orc that might be a leader, looking for some type of headdress, the biggest orc, the one with the most bones slung around his neck, usually denoting his many kills. If she spots any that appear unusual, she will take aim at that one and fire off another volley of arrows.

If she doesn’t spot any leaders or such, she will target the orcs that are closest to her or Cerric’s position. She keeps a close eye on any threat to the Priest, and will change targets if need be to protect him. Though from the blast of magical darts that streak out from beneath her and strike down nearby goblins, she can see that he seems to be able to handle himself quite well.

The rush of battle excites her, danger has always held fascination for her. A stand up fighter, like Brianna or Highnar, she will never be but she can hold her own and then some in positions where she can use surprise or distance attacks.

Watching the goblins and orcs falling, she can tell that this battle will probably not last much longer. She has chosen a battle hardened group with which to travel. She is pleased with her decision to join them.

"The Sylvari we came to meet has not arrived yet, something is delaying or holding off much of the ship traffic here, There’s no definite reason for the delay, but a local lighthouse has been dark for a few days now, and the ships would normally use it to guide their way into port. Since we have no other task but to wait for the ship, I suggest that we head out to this lighthouse on the morn and see what is causing it to be dark. T’is better than being idle here. What say you all?”

Varuna nodded his head in approval as he couldn’t think of anything else and it definitely sounded as if something sinister was going on at the lighthouse. “I agree, we should check it out.”

"I agree cousin let us not stay in this town a moment longer then needed. Lets us move on quickly."

With that Tal stood and awaited to the others to do the same.

Varuna sighed slightly as he hadn’t eaten yet and Tal was ready to ride now. A muscle in his backside gave an involuntary twitch at the thought of hopping back on the horses and riding further today. He sipped his drink and looked around to signal the waitress to ask about their meals, he definitely wanted to eat before headed off into possible danger.

Subject: Inspection and Departure

James managed to finish his breakfast before the Staff Sergeant arrived for the inspection. When the Staff Sergeant calls for inspection, he followed orders and moved to an empty table and began to lay out his gear.

He opened the action on this M6A1 carbine laid it on the table along with the loaded 7 magazines. He removed his M9A2 9mm pistol and removed the magazine and worked the slide to unload the chambered round and laid it out.
He set his belt out there that contained his grenades, his Surefire Defender flashlight, and other small items, waterproof matches, Swiss Army knife, wire saw, half a dozen snap light sticks.

Last he set the rucksack down and opened it showing it’s contents: Food, water canteen, candles, water purification tablets, extra clothing, 50ft of #550 parachute cord, etc. His artic sleeping bag finished off his gear.

The only thing he didn’t lay on the table was the Chinese short sword that was strapped to his back. This item was sacred to him, having been passed down to him from his grandfather and he had always carried it during his time in the corps. Being small and light, their had never been any problem with past commands in his carrying it and he didn’t expect any now.

After the inspection was complete, he quickly re-stowed all his gears as it had been and moved out to the truck that waited to take them to the airfield.

James is impressed by the aircraft and excited by the method with which they will arrive at their destination. He follows the others with the corporal and stows his gear in the duffels and gets dressed in his flight suit. He hates this part, having to go without his weapons, though he hardly thinks they will need them in the Drone. He does keep his sword, he straps it to his back over his flight suit, he refuses to be completely unarmed.

Boarding the drone he waits for the order and then gets strapped into the bench seats of the drone, anxious to get to their destination and get this show on the road.

When the goblins and orcs hit the ntangles, Vatta fired off her first volley of arrows. Her magical bow of speed and her amazing skill with said bow, allowed her to notched the second arrow and was aiming before the first struck it’s target.

She felt an exhilarating feeling run through her, finally some action. While her profession demanded patience at times, she still loved a good fight now and then. She would avoid fights that she knew she couldn’t win, but she would never shy away from a battle when it was necessary. This fight fell in the latter category.

Her intended targets were any orcs or goblins that appeared to be leaders, if she couldn’t spot any easily, then she would target those closest to her position. If they were close enough, she knew they would be easy targets.

DM,

Do you make the combat rolls for the battle? I have already stated my intent to fire at the goblins and orcs as they hit the entangles. Do I need to state anything further or make any rolls?

Thanks!

Ziv didn’t have anything better to do so he tagged along with the Jedi and the others , besides maybe he would find something in the merchantile that he needed.

He looked around at the tools and such and sighed when after several minutes of looking he didn’t find anything he thought worth buying. “Pretty poor picking here,” he said to Luna, “See anything girlie you want to buy?” He chuckled at her. Just thinking of her in some gown or other woman’s clothing was a amusing picture. From what he had seen, Luna was not the type to be dressing up like a lady. Thought the thought of seeing her in something like that was interesting.

Finding nothing to buy, he hung out and when the others departed the store he would follow them. He wondered where the Jedi went and who he could be meeting. All this sneaking around, no wonder some people had reservations about trusting the Jedi.

He was bored here in town, nothing to work on, nothing exciting to do. “Ok, Now what do we do?” he said to the others. He hoped they had a plan, other than standing there waiting on the Jedi to return.

“I’m hungry,” he stated to no one in particular, a complaint that was often heard from him.

Suddenly he turned, his eye caught by a couple of woman walking by, he grinned, “Hey now.” The two women, obviously locals from their simple type of clothing, looked at Ziv and then at each other and giggled like children.

Ziv , who happened to be standing next to Damanil at the time, nudged him with his elbow, “Maybe we can find some other entertainment, eh?” He grinned and ran a hand through his dark curly locks.

Vatta watched carefully for their opponents, and spared a glance now and then to the ground below so she could spot the locations of the various comrades. By being aware of their locations she could be sure that she wouldn’t fire any arrows too near them.

When the orcs and goblins emerge and give chase after Lorae, she tries to spot any obvious leaders in the group, those pointing and shouting as if giving commands. If she spots any she will draw a bead on them and take careful aim and when the first reach the entangles she will fire her bow as fast as she can. Choosing any leaders first, of if not apparent then the largest of the foes, knowing the largest were the most dangerous and probably leaders. The strongest usually were the leaders in their stinted chain of command, as it were.

She would continue to fire, looking out for any trying to get to the base of her tree, and near Cerric. She had her duty to protect him and she meant to uphold that oath.

Varuna remained silent while En’Aranthea talked to the Sailor, he smiled slightly at the old salt’s colorful conversation and wondered what En’Aranthea was thinking of it. He was glad to see that she didn’t need his help in translating the common tongue slang for her. When she rose to leave the table he bowed his head to the old sailor, “My the Goddesses’ blessing be upon you!”

He followed her back to the table and was glad the ale had arrived, the cider was a bit too tart for his taste. He took a few tentative sips and smiled, not bad at all. He hoped the food arrived soon, his stomach was growling.

Listening to En’Aranthea’s plan he nodded his approval. “I think it is worth investigating ,” he said,
“maybe the cause of the ships delay has a more ominous source than just an ill keeper.”

He looked around for the serving girl to inquire about their meals.

You are correct about the Sergeant not being called sir, and not saluting him.. others were doing it so I just didnt want to say anything to offend anyone.. but you do salute officers indoors, at least I had to when I was in the service.. you just had to remove your hat indoors.

I wasnt offended by your post.. not sure why anyone would be... just playing your character as I see it. So no worries!

With the question and answer session over and all filling out, Kane gathered all but the Lt and gave his first orders.

“OK listen up you heard the Colonel we are headed out soon I want all winter gear packed, armor readied and weapons issued and cleaned by 08:00. At that time I will do a visual inspection of all gear and weapons and rucksacks to make sure no unnecessary gear is taken. Ok Everyone move out except you Blake I want a word with you over here. Lt join us please.”

Sergeant Lee saluted the Staff Sergeant, “Yes Sir!” and smartly turned and left the HQ and headed back to his quarters to gather his gear.

Having a couple hours James knew he had plenty of time. He didn’t have to clean his weapons as he always kept them clean, but he quickly inspected them and made sure everything was in working order.

He had taken a shower just before going to the meeting so he pulled out his ARBA suit and underclothes and began to dress. Knowing the mission involved cold weather he donned his Polypro GI Issue ECWCS cold weather thermal wear. The extreme cold weather polypro fleece underwear kept you super warm, it was moisture wicking and so comfortable you couldn’t tell you were wearing it. Next came the Ranger ARBA suit which was the latest greatest breakthrough in personal body armor. No Ranger should be without it.

His M6A1 carbine was properly lubricated and for the moment unloaded, but he loaded 7 magazines giving each a rap on his footlocker to settle the ammo before slipping each into it’s magazine pouch.

James worked action on his M9A2 9mm pistol and loaded it before holstering it and stowing the two extra mags. He wiped down the blade of his grandfather Chinese short sword before strapping it on his back. He added a few grenades, a couple of frag and a couple of incendiary, just in case.

He slipped a Surefire E2D Defender Xenon flashlight into a pouch on his belt. Extremely bright (60 Lumens), small and tough due to it’s aircraft grade aluminum body, it was something he never failed to carry. Into his other belt pouches he packed his small items, waterproof matches, a Swiss Army knife, a commando wire saw and a half dozen snap light 12 hour light sticks.

He finished off by packing away his other normal items (Food, water, candles, water purification tablets, extra clothing, 50ft of #550 parachute cord, etc.) in his small rucksack and tied his artic sleeping bag to it and slung it on his back.

Finished a little before 0800, he slung his carbine over his shoulder and went to the mess hall to muster and grab a bite to eat. A Ranger never knew when he might get his next meal. He had a generous breakfast, but didn’t over do it. Bacon, eggs, hash browns, pancakes, and some OJ and he was good to go.

He saw members of the team gathered at a table away from general crowd and he took his meal over there. Sitting down his tray he will salute the Lt or Staff sergeant if they are there. “Sergeant Lee reporting ready, Sir!” Once given permission he will set his M6A1 Carbine leaning against the table and he will sit and begin to eat waiting for further orders.

The thin bladed sword cut the air and as the two blades met a musical ring of steel sounded throughout the training facility as about a dozen rangers stood around and watched the two combatants in the center. Both stripped to the waist their taut muscled torsos glistening in sweat at the exertion of their sparring. The one man, large, tan and muscular, used a machete to try and overpower his opponent with his constant hacking, but the trimmer but no less fit Asian man before him used his weapon to deflect every blow with seeming ease. A fact that only seemed to enrage the larger man.

The smaller man used a fragile looking compared to the machete; a straight short sword, with a thin blade only and inch and a half inches wide, that bent and flowed through the air that made one doubt it was made of steel. It seemed to sing as it cut through the air and the man wielding it apparently knew how to use it.

Finally tiring of the exercise, the smaller man delivered small cut to the forearm of the larger man causing him to drop his weapon and fall back. “I GIVE!”

James smiled and bowed to his opponent, “Your getting better Carl, but you still over extend yourself and try to smash down your opponents guard which is difficult if the opponent is smart and fast.”

The bigger man picked up his weapon from the mat and walked up and clapped his big hand down on the smaller man’s shoulder and laughed, “You mean fast like you, Sarg?”

“Yes,” James said with all modesty, “your movement are all circular slashing moves and take too long to connect, remember attacks from the center of your body are more direct and take less time… Now hit the showers private, lesson is over.”

Turning to the assembled men, “There wont be a session next week, as I am leaving on assignment, I will let everyone know when the next one is upon my return.”

As the group broke up with comments on what Carl could have done to win, James walked over and picked up his scabbard and a towel from the bench. Draping the towel over his left forearm, he slowly wiped the engraved blade across the towel watching as the light reflected off the scalloped edge before sheathing the blade and heading to the showers.

Emerging from the training center and hour later, he was freshly shaved, dressed in his fatigues with his standard M9 pistol on his hip and his small hilt of his sword rising slightly over his right shoulder. He marched smartly over to Regiment HQ in plenty of time before his briefing on the new mission.

He wasn’t surprised to see several there before him in the outer office, he was surprised at the two females in the group especially the civilian woman. Yet the only sign of his surprise would have been the rise of one eyebrow, which usually reminded people of Mr. Spock from an old TV show that still showed on some late night Classic entertainment channels.

James saluted the Lt and the Staff Sergeant, “Sergeant James Lee, at your command.” He assumed that these two would be in charge of the mission, whatever it might be.

In side the Colonel’s office, James snapped to attention and saluted Col Lucas and stood at ease when given permission. He listened to the briefing and to the questions asked by the LT and the civilian, who apparently was some kind of scientist he took it. After it was over he had no questions himself, he was use to others making decision and his job was to follow orders.

Filing out into the outer office he went over to the LT and Staff Sergeant and saluted again, “Sirs, your orders?” He would wait to see if they had any special things they wanted them to do before he would head off to do as the Colonel said, Eat, get his gear ready and met at the assigned place for take off.

Vatta hears Lorea’s instructions, gives a wave to acknowledgement , and spotting the return of the Daug and Flame from the west she concentrates her sense on that direction. ((OOC: Listen roll was a 12+11 modifier= Total 23; Spot roll was a 14+3 modifier = total 17)).

She takes out a handful of arrows from her quiver and sticks the heads into the tree trunk next to her so she can grab them quickly when the time comes. She has one arrow set and waiting for a target to show itself.

Looking down as Lorae sets her entanglement around the tree she spots Cerric looking up at her and she smiles back at him and gave him a wink, “Don’t worry priest.. None shall reach you there.” Reminding him of her vow to protect him. She knew how important a priest that could heal was to such a party, she had recently seen his healing magic in use on Logan who looked near death.

She valued her own life, of that there was no doubt., but she would keep a close eye on the priest for in her mind his magic was far more useful to the mission than her feeble skills.

If she hears or spots any thing, she will call down softly to the others and let them know immediately. She hopes that the enemy will be drawn out into the clearing where she will have a much clearer shot at them.

Varuna rose when En’Aranthea approached the table and when she asked him to joining her he bow, “Of course Milady, I am your servant.” As he followed her he passed the barmaid coming with their drinks and quickly swiped a tankard of cider from her tray and smiled to her.

He stood behind the Sylvari, sipping at his cider, as she addressed the sailor at the other table, he met the man’s gaze and offered a smile and a nod to him, “Clear skies and favorable winds to you sailor,” he added after En’Aranthea spoke to the man. His greeting a usual one for seafaring folks that he had picked up from his times aboard ships and living in or around port towns.

If the man offered them the seats he would let En’Aranthea sit first and then he would take the other seat. He sat back a bit so he could keep and eye out around them and he could aid the Sylvari if she needed his assistance.

Vatta sat atop her horse and listened to the others as they planned their strategy and kept her eyes on the direction from whence they came knowing that at any minute the enemy could appear.

She turns to The Paladin of the Light when she addresses her and smiles and bows her head politely at the offer of the armor and hand crossbow, “Thank you, Milady but I am more skilled with my own bow and the chain armor would only hinder my movements.” Having worn her studded leather armor for so long she can’t imagine wearing anything else. She finds any other armor confining and cumbersome to her deft movements especially during combat.

Vatta looks up into the trees and spies some likely places from where she could get a good field of fire of the area that Lorae has selected. “I think I am best suited for fighting from above,” she says and runs her horse over into the brush to the side of the direction that the orcs and goblins should come.

Leaping off the horse, taking her weapons, she quickly ties her horse to some light brush, enough to keep it from wandering off but if endangered the animal could pull free and retreat.

She spots the best tree for her purpose and slinging her bow and quiver on her back she shimmies up the tree with ease. Finding the large limb she seen from the ground, one wide enough so she can walk easily and with a trunk big enough to provide cover from any return fire, she equips her bow and keeps vigilance on the western forest.

If she spots any movement she will warn those below.

Rubbing his head Ziv looks at Jeena with embarassment and hands over the data pad when she requests it. He stands by and lets her berate him for tinkering with their speeders. “Your absolutely right.. I wouldn’t like it either.. I was just hoping I could help… My apologizes.”

“Besides it looks like there isn’t much I can do to help here,” He adds with a smile, “someone obviously has things well in hand.”

Tucking away his data pad and gathering up his things, he closes up the speeder maintenance hatch and follows her to the house for dinner.

Ziv enjoys dinner and comments to their hosts about how ‘they didn’t have anything this good back on the ship’. He certainly puts away his share and hardly speaks during dinner because of his mouth being constantly full.

After being shown to a bed for the night, he crashes and quickly falls asleep, his rack back on the ship wasn’t this comfortable either.

The next morning he is up and has his gear ready to go. When he sees Luna he asks, “Sleep well?”

“No! The beds here are too soft,” she replies, “not like on the ship.”

Ziv chuckles. “Well I sleep like a rock.. Maybe it was your bed,” he grins mischievously and adds, “maybe next time you sleep with me.”

He piles into the speeder quickly before he has to endure her temper.

He watches the terrain fly by and listens to the conversations around him and when they arrive in Dalroth he hops out grabbing his things and says his goodbyes to Jaal and Jeena, “Thanks for your hospitality.. the food and accommodations were excellent.”

When the Jedi spoke of missions and plans, Ziv shrugged and looked at the others, Luna was the closest thing he had to a comrade and he still wasn’t sure about the others. Though he still had his doubts about the Jedi he wasn’t sure what they could do here on this planet.

“Well, I don’t have anything else to do,” he looked at Luna and the others, “want to hang with the Jedi for awhile? Might be interesting!” He grinned.

((Ziv will accompany Caise and the others if that is the general consensus. At the mercantile he will look around at the tools, and any other engineer stuff they might have in stock. He is out of his element here planetside, so he will be alert and watchful of everyone and everything around him.))
