Dover Street – Rancho Coronado – Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 4:30pm

Mae was glad when they encountered some blind luck and ran into an RV they could use as a mobile base for this operation. He kept a close eye out as Bulls Eye and Lightning heisted their new ride and quickly boarded as they headed off to their objective.

“We’re about ten miles out, if this fancy nav system is right.” The nomad had turned around in the captain’s chair and was peering back at the group on a whole. Croaker had been sitting in the passenger seat, Peacekeeper right behind him in the bench seat behind the table where Lightning was messing with the television he’d dismantled on the ride. Bull’s Eye was looking at MDK now, as most of the eyes in the RV had focused.

MDK only nodded as she checked his gear and prepared to move out; he knew what was expected of him. He was not however prepared for what happened next.

“I know the plan was that you go it alone,” Peacekeeper intoned dryly. “But I feel that you might need someone to watch your back, so I’m going with you.” Standing up, she retrieved her bag and unzipped it, beginning the work of making sure all of the gear she wanted to take along was on her person, as the bag would remain.

“There will likely be infrared,” Peacekeeper continued in an effort to keep Croaker silent. “We won’t be able to do much about that, but I went after a defecting computer scientist for a corporation a few years back and learned a thing or two about bots and remotes, so at least we have some knowledge in that area should we encounter it.

“Way I see it, we’ve got the majority of the night for recon maneuvers and getting back here. Once we’ve scoped things out we can determine the best course to proceed. Correct me if I’m wrong.” Peacekeeper paused in her gearing up to turn and raise a manicured eyebrow at MDK before continuing with her efforts.

“Once again Peacekeepers right, as a bounty hunt she has damn good tracking skills so it makes sense she go along with you MDK. Once you do your recon meet us back a mile at that thick grove of tree’s we passed as we will hide there and wait for you. If you’re not back by daylight we will play it by ear from that point on...Good luck”

Without a word he took Peacekeeper in his arms for a fast hug and then let her go just as quickly returning to his seat at the front of the RV as the two moved outside.

MDK had remained silent while Peacekeeper rambled and Croaker gave his reluctant consent but when she was ready to go he nodded and stepped out of the RV and begin to head slowly off into the woods.

They hadn’t gone far, just out of sight of the RV when he turned to look at Peacekeeper, his silver orbs observing her from behind his Battlemask.

“So you don’t trust me either,” he said to her as he stopped and turned to face her. His right hand hanging near his smart link automat; he wasn’t reaching for it, the gun just happened to be well placed so that as he stood naturally his hand was in the best position to draw it from it’s low ride holster.

Though she didn’t know it, but might guess, his target reticule had automatically locked on to the center of her forehead as he looked at her face. Though at this range, standing only 3 feet from her as he gazed downward at her, the guns just might not come into play if it came to that.

Location: Wooded Area - Destination: The Grey Mountains
Date/Time: Day Seven - Early Morning

The groups search for food for the horses comes up empty; what little vegetation they find the horses will not eat. They do however have a small amount of grain in their saddlebags which might last them a day, maybe two at best.

The day breaks and the camp is quiet, almost too quiet. They notice all through the night that there is no sound of any wildlife, no birds, insects, nothing other than themselves. Even the wind seems absent at first, until the storm they see growing out of the West grows closer blocking out the rising sun.

The wind picks up as the group finishes their morning meal and break camp. Checking the guiding ring they once again head off towards the mountain peaks which now loam ever closer. The storm hits them when they are less than an hour out, the driving winds and rain pelting them and their mounts, slowing their progress. However, they can tell that the worst of the storm is further north from them. If they had to guess, it looks like the center of the black storm is focused on the area where they originally set camp; where Siliwen was viciously attacked through the ground.

They are able to ride on through the storm making some slow progress, but at least they figure no one will be able to find them or track them as long as the storm rages.

After unknown hours of riding, the storm finally passes and soon the sun returns to them and they can see it is now mid afternoon. They and their mounts are tired and worn, and the storm seemed to sap the strength and determination from the riders and their animals. Even though the storm has passed they ride no faster; their will seems to lag and their haste temporarily forgotten.

The peaks of the grey mountains loom over them as they start up into the dark foothills at their base. They ride on, following the ring, until they begin to pass through some kind of ravine leading up into the mountains proper. The sun wanes lower in the sky and feeling exhausted they quickly find a place to camp among the crags where they have a defensible position.

Here they find no trees in which to make a hammock for Siliwen to rest the night. (If she wishes to keep off of the ground, you will have to devise another way). Nothing appears to grow here, only dark rocks litter the ground. The entire area seems sapped of life; dark and grey stone surrounds them.

Setting up the camp, they have a small cold meal once again; some of their strength and will returning as they fill their bodies with the meager food they have with them. Even the mounts seem to recover some of their liveliness after eating some grain and resting.

Still fatigued from fighting the strange storm, the group sets their beds out and begin to find some sleep for the night shortly after sunset.

It is late, after midnight, all of the group is asleep except for the watch, who happens to be Thor when the keen rock wise ears of the dwarf hears a stone slide somewhere in the darkness. Unsure of it’s cause, he hefts his axe and takes a few steps away from camp to investigate. He doesn’t sound an alarm as he figures if it is something he cant handle, which he doubts, then he can always roust the others as he holds off whatever it might be, if indeed it is anything.

The dwarf listens intently but the sound is not repeated. He turns to go back to the camp assured it is nothing when he hears a different sound, the slapping of feet on stone. Whirling he sees a figure charge out of the darkness at him; the figure is stocky and about his height. He brings up his axe and blocks a blow aimed at his head and side steps his opponent and twists to the side. The attackers momentum makes him stumble past Thor who neatly trips the attacker to the ground.

Thor raises his axe prepared to split his opponent’s head in twain when the moon suddenly peaks from behind some clouds and reveals his target’s face to him. He sees a dwarf on the ground before him, struggling to regain his feet. The visage of one of his own kin causes Thor to halt his attack and take a step backwards.

“I would do that if I were ye,” a rumbling voice intercedes. Turning to look, Thor sees four more dwarves step out of the darkness, two of which have heavy crossbows leveled at him.

The ruckus of the battle rousts the other from their slumber and they leap from their beds only to see that they are surrounded by eight dwarves; four of which are covering them with heavy crossbows.

“Thurm,” the dwarf who spoke to Thor said looking at the one at Thor’s feet, “Get up.. your embarrassing yourself.”

The dwarf who attacked Thor rolled to his feet, recovering his axe. He eyed Thor with anger in his eyes as he walked back around to join the other four.

“I believe your friends have awakened,” the apparent leader spoke and nodded to the camp, “perhaps we should join them so they don’t do anything rash.”

Smiling, he waits for Thor to turn and head to the camp a few paces off then they follow him. When they arrive, Thor sees that a full dozen dwarves, plus the Leader, an elderly looking dwarf with flaming red hair and beard which stretches beyond his belt, now surround the party.

“Well now,” the leader says with a wry smile looking at the assembled group, “what have we here?”

Subject: Riding on the bus.. riding on the bus.. sitting next to bums..

Dover Street – Rancho Coronado – Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 4:30pm

MDK stood on the bus trying to look as inconspicuous as a man in all black wearing a black battle mask can look while riding public transportation; which is to say not at all.

Since getting on the bus he had not been comfortable and kept looking around at everyone he didn’t know. He felt too exposed here; too closed in by the confines of the bus. It was a bad situation tactically; one ambush here could take out the entire group; he didn’t really think about the collateral damages to the other innocent people, they didn’t concern him. Self preservation was his only motivation here and he didn’t like this one bit. When they stopped a ‘Beavertown’ he wanted to get off of this rolling target, but Croaker seemed to panic at the sight of a security car patrolling the area.

“We’re gonna have to try Combat Town, its too open here.”

MDK snorted slightly behind his battle mask at the man’s apparent lack of nerve. It was only a small security patrol. They should be more than a match for them if they got into a brawl. Mae thought even he could take them out alone if necessary; but he wasn’t the boss on this mission and he was beginning to wonder why anyone was following this Nomad so blindly.

As they stayed on the bus and prepared to leave the area, MDK only sighed slightly and looked around; he felt like there was a target painted on his back here and he was beginning to doubt his own intelligence at falling in with a bunch that seemed ‘gun shy’ and skittish about fighting. How did they plan to tackled the Megacorps if they were afraid to do any real fighting. He hoped he lived to find out.

As Lee tried to get a sight on the creature he couldn’t believe the powerful, overbearing stench of the beast. He tried to hold it back but in the end he turned and ejected the few contents of his stomach upon the cold floor.

He turned back just in time for the creature to snatch him up in it’s large paws causing him to drop his carbine. When he hit the ground he grunted from the impact that almost made him lose consciousness.

Somehow he managed to keep from passing out and rolled to the side away from the team drawing his sword as he came up and sliced deep into the creature’s torso. Seeing the wound only enrage the beast further he gritted his teeth against the blow he knew was coming.

“Ah, S***!” he managed to get out before the beast once again swept him up and this time slammed him down twice. Consciousness faded and he lay limp upon the ground his sword sailing away to lay against the wall.

Si-Di had started towards the Cantina when she felt Kavtan pause and she stopped and turned to face him, a quizzical expression upon her long face.

Si-Di, the cantina isn't the best place, we would have to find somewhere without so many ears but outside is a gooder place as any,” Kavtan said, "but it concerns information and the gather of. Seeing that we lost the arcona they can't be questioned easily. Y’Ssar is a master of red tape. No, you need underground information, I do not know how to get it and I'm not the one to go looking for it, we need to find someone who can."

The Cerean nodded knowing he was talking about underworld contacts, sources of information not normally used by law abiding people, especially Jedi. She understood him completely as she turned to watch the beautiful sunset over the landing platform.

“I understand, Kavtan,” she replied, “perhaps later we can inquire with others about possible.. dubious channels of information.”

She looked over and spotted Ninkanna leaving her Jedi Starfighter and approaching them. “I believe it is getting close to the time we must go and visit the illustrious Administrator.”

She bowed her head to Ninkanna as she approached, “Did you have any luck contacting Master Arkanna?”

(Room for replies)

“Well,” Si-Di began, “We should make our way to the Administrator’s place if we are to dine with him this evening. Maybe he has news for us.” Her tone sounded as if she wasn’t confident that Namor could provide any help with their problems.

“Kavtan,” she asked, “I am sure you know where we can find the Administrator.. please lead on.”

Hiking the strap of her travel bag up over her head to rest on the opposite shoulder, she followed the Tech as he led them deeper into Dom-Rhett to the much anticipated meeting with Cern Namor. She had some questions for the man, even if he didn’t have the answers. She was curious to see his reactions when he heard of their troubles with both of the Guilds today.

Sorry Tann didn’t notice your request from earlier… ah.. MDK is not wearing a suit.. well an armored suit maybe…

He is wearing all Black… Morplex armored shirt, and black leather pants with Battlegear Greaves. Over top of that is a armored Black leather duster. He has a black armored battle mask and a black armored bandana (The mask and bandana were in place last I posted. Oh and he wears shooter gloves.

He kind of stands out where ever he is.. unless it is in the dark.

I don’t have any suggestions really! MDK is just kind of along for the ride. He makes some suggestions from time to time, but he would rather shoot it out. So if he was asked he would just want to step off the bus and take out the security if it comes to that!

Sorry I cant be of more help! MDK will follow with just about anything Croaker decides to do at this point.

Subject: Conversation with Kavtan

No," was Kavtan's answer in somber tones "what every it was decimated the craft and all evidence of what it was." he was avoiding finding the scraps of flesh, that would not go in his diary.

"If it was a bomb it must have been placed and concealed by an expert for that amount of damage or if it was a missile, I don't know how it would have been, but if it was a missile then it must have been a professional job."

Si-Di nodded at Kavtan’s impromptu report and assumed it was going to be something like this. She shook her head at the devastation, wondering why people would do such a thing to kill people they didn’t even know.

“Thank you, Kavtan.” She said to him softly, “I appreciate your efforts even though you have found nothing that will point us to whomever has done this terrible thing.”

Might I ask what that powercell is for? If it is a powercell, I have never seen one like it before." Kavtan asked making casual conversation.

Si-Di smiled slightly and reached into her robe and took out the Green Adegan Crystal and held it in her open palm looking down at it thoughtfully.

“This is not a power cell,” She told him, “this is the crystal from Master Allum’s lightsaber. It is the only thing… left of him.” She paused a moment to take a deep calming breath before continuing.

“This crystal focuses the power of the lightsaber and they are created in special furnaces that use extremely high temperatures so that is why this crystal survived the explosion. It is not easy to destroy a Jedi crystal. When it is created it is imbued with the force by the maker; it takes several days of meditation by the Jedi to complete it”

She turned it slowly as if admiring it; the green color of the crystal seemed to glow even in the light of day.

“It is the pinnacle of a Jedi Padawan’s studies to create their own crystal and construct a lightsaber,” she said wistfully, “I hope one day to construct my own.” Still in a pensive mood she quoted an old litany regarding a Jedi’s crystal.

The crystal is the heart of the blade.
The heart is the crystal of the Jedi.
The Jedi is the crystal of the Force.
The Force is the blade of the heart.
All are intertwined:
The Crystal, The Blade, The Jedi.
You are One.

She sighed softly then looked up and noticed she was still talking to Kavtan. She smiled apologetically and slipped the crystal back inside the pocket inside her robe.

“Forgive me,” Si-Di said, “I reminisce.”

“Could you sit down, I need to ask you something." Kavtan asked her.

Nodding Si-Di looked around and didn’t really see anyplace to sit except on some of the wreckage.

“Perhaps we could go inside and talk?” she asked, “I do not want to sit on the ground here among the debris.”

If he agrees, she will turn with him and begin walking back to the Cantina; though she will not object if he talks as they walk.

Sgt Lee had the lead as usual as they made their way back to the observatory where they left Hatherford and Hart. As they approached the door the horrible stench hit him and he almost gagged. He reached up and pulled the heavy wind cloth he had around his neck up over the lower half of his face to block out ‘some’ of the stench.

"Safeties off.” Sgt Kane said and nodded to Lee.

Flipping his safety off he took a deep calming breath and executed a classic breach; kicking open the door he moved in two paces and then to the right, getting out of the doorway to allow the others behind him to enter and to narrow the time he was visible in the doorway for any fire that might come his way. He took two more steps forward and right then paused as he took in the strange world he had entered.

None of this had been here before, what was going on. He shook his head a moment trying to keep from breathing in the smell of rotting meat that was almost overpowering. He concentrated and scanned the room for danger, sweeping the room with his eyes and his carbine pointing everywhere his eyes roamed.

As the team attempts to gather themselves, the air is split by a bellowing roar. A tall (seven plus feet) monster covered in shaggy fur is rapidly rushng the fire team!

This is not one of the yetis viewed earlier. This creature looks like a terrible cross between a human and a sloth. Its body is covered in dark, reddish fur, and large, curved talons protrude from its "fingers" and "toes". It is clearly angry, and is currently charging the fire team.

Lee’s close combat training kicks in at the danger, here was something he could deal with, a foe. Even though this beast was beyond imagination, he didn’t dwell on it, it was attacking and so he immediately did what he was trained to do.

(If the creature is still at range)

He opened up with his carbine aiming for center mass of the large beast. It shouldn’t be too hard to hit something this size.

(IF the creature is coming at him and is right on top of him)

He flips his carbine to his left hand, holding it by the fore stock and reaches up and with one practiced lightning move draws his sword from over his right shoulder. The draw turning into a slice at any of the creature's extremities that might be within range first. While doing this is will duck under the tall beast’s outstretched arms and move to the right away from the rest of the group so that he wont be in their direct line of fire.

What was the maintenance hatch number of the trash compacter the group was trapped in while aboard the Death Star? Star Wars Episode 4 of course.

This was my original question which no one got.. though Duncan74 came the closest and get a Gold star for his effort.

The answer was: 3263827

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since no one got my last one, I will ask another:
In star wars, aboard the death star, when the Millennium Falcon was captured and Han and Luke jumped the storm troopers and took their armor, what was one of the storm troopers designation?
I know very obscure but they did mention it in the movie, a hint, in the control room over looking the falcon an officer noticed the trooper missing and got on the comm and called to the trooper and asked “______ why arent you at your post? _____ do you copy?”:
The group quickly decides that maybe they are being tracked through the ground somehow and decide to break camp as fast as possible and ride on and find another camp site. They gather their horses and as soon as Sil’s horse is ready she is set in the saddle. She waits while the others stow the rest of the gear and mount up. The whole time this is going on, their dark companion stands idly by as if nothing is going on.
Once ready, they check the ring’s pointer and soon ride off into the night. There is a waning moon out tonight so they have some light as they ride quickly across the plains. The ground around here they notice is more barren as they ride closer to the mountains.
After riding an hour, without seeing anything, they find another larger group of woods where they can conceal themselves from prying eyes. They ride into the woods for a few minutes and then find a suitable area to camp. While they rode, they noticed the vegetation here is dying or dead ; only the trees remains and they look old and shriveled as if the life is slowly being sucked out of them.
The area they pick to camp doesn’t even have any grass in the open area, they do however find a couple of trees close together where they might be able to rig some type of hammock for Sil if they wish to keep her off the ground.
By now it is late at night and they are all tired from the battle earlier and the longer than anticipated journey this day. A good nights sleep is just what the doctor ordered for all of them. Watches are set and once again they settle down to try and recover from their injuries.
They night passes without incident and the day break dark as heavy clouds seem to fill the sky. A large storm seems to be moving in from the West, coming from the mountains.
The Charon – Captain’s Ready Room – 1102 hours
“You’ve all done well,” the Captain began in a low, even tone. “What I’m about to relay might come as a surprise to some, to others it is what was expected, though I’m sure the details are what you’re avidly awaiting.”
Lt. Cmdr Talon smiled slightly anticipating the details of this mission. He hated all this waiting around making repairs and giving reports. He wanted combat, ship to ship, hand to hand, it didn’t matter, anything was better than sitting around listening to report about how the ship was ready to go. Once the battle was engaged; plans were just that, plans! He was smiling now because they were coming closer to the heart of their purpose; this was something he could enjoy.
“Last night, Lieutenant Kennedy oversaw the transport of some containers to our cargo bays. These containers are to be left alone. Tampering with them will result in a whole hell of a lot of time in my brig. The containers are filled with argine. Are any of you familiar with that substance? It is very destructive explosive. There are thirteen containers…just enough to completely destroy an orbital platform.”
Talon nodded, this explained the secret transport in the middle of the night. Security! Still Talon furrowed his brow as to why Lt Kennedy was called upon for this duty and he was not.
“I will assign a 24 hr security detail to guard the cargo bay,” the Lyran said, “especially with the Romulans coming aboard soon,” the contempt audible in his voice.
“My sources tell me that there is a Jem’Hadar incubation platform in orbit around that planet, and we’re going to use this little mission of Starfleet’s to strike a major blow against the Dominion.”
Kelsey paused once more to eyeball the new additions to his ship before turning his attention to Talon. “Lt. Cmdr. Talon, you’ll put together the usual compliment to join us in the infiltration of the base in order to plant the localization device so that we can beam the explosives past the platform’s shields.
Talon picked up his PADD and immediately began making notes as the Captain continued to give other’s their orders. He quickly assembled a team of his best Security personal familiar with close combat, and demolitions. Lt Myers would be his second on this mission and that left him with 5 others to chose for a six man team, unless… he looked up at the Captain and waited for him to finish.
The room fell silent for a moment as Kel allowed the information to sink in. Then, he stood up indicating that the mission briefing was at an end. “Work whatever you need to out through Lt. Kennedy to coordinate departments. Any questions?”
“Sir?” Talon spoke up quickly, “I recommend we take one of our Type 8 shuttle craft since it has the best weapons, speed, and crew capacity, but I need to know who among command personnel will be going on this mission?”
Talon didn’t have to look at the specs for the Type 8 shuttle to know it had a crew capacity of two flight and 6 passengers. He intended to be one of the group and could fill one of the flight position, but he needed to know how many officers would be going so he could fill the remaining compliment with security personnel. Eight people on this mission, didn’t seem like much when attacking a Jem’Hadar installation but Talon grinned slightly at the challenge.
(Once he got an answer – Possible backpost later if Talon has objections to crew assignment of officers)
“Time is running out, people. Dismissed.”
