Subject: Still here

Life has been very busy for me too of late, but I'm still here. It's been a great game so far, and I don't want it to flicker out and die if I can help it.

I'm not sure what's going on really. I'm still around (if a little busy).

Sorry for the lack of postage. I've been at a funeral, and now I'm heading off to a conference and will be away from home for another couple of days.

I'll get a post up when I come back (hopefully).

Yes it is hard to tell. Bart apparently gave an invite to Bronwyn (according to Kaelyn's last post) but it's tough to know whether she accepted it or sought Bart out at some other time.

Incidentally, did Bronwyn really have a whole alchemist's lab packed away in a backpack?

Aelistae cocked her head as Talus spoke, a flash of mirth lighting up her violet eyes as they focused upon his fumbling fingers.

:Concerned for me?: she signed in slow, exaggerated gestures to ensure the human could follow each word. : Don’t be. I’ll be back. If only to ensure you don’t tie your fingers into a knot.:

“I will come back,” she added in spoken speech for that couldn’t interpret the movement of her fingers. “Or we will, if Linnix wishes to come. We have been through too much together, I think, for ties of friendship to be dissolved so easily.”

Subject: Things that go bump in the night...

Neri lazily circled a small piece of bread in the gravy left behind upon her plate. The meal had been simple, but good Ertainian fare, and a welcome break from cold cured rations and the grime of the road. But the slow, dancing pattern she traced in her plate was more out of appreciation for the sweet music that Syana had begun to play, than out of quiet contentment.

The woman’s song was beautiful. A haunting melody that she was unfamiliar with, but which was so laden with emotion that no words were needed.

“Thank you,” Neri mouthed softly, as the music died.

Sadly Syana’s attempts for an encore, were drowned out by another, more ominous rhythm.

The whole common room of the Inn reverberated with the sounds of doors being thumped upon, and windows rattled. All seemed to conclude it was the work of the same shambling creatures they had met upon the road. The stout dwarf, Volkmar, jumped for his spear, and Shianna bolted for the door in panic.

Neri, for her part, groaned inwardly. It was just as likely to be children playing a prank or the work of drink-sodden revellers, but, if it was what they all feared, it was safer being inside than out.

“Stay here and be alert,” Neri muttered quickly as she rose from the table, picked up her sword and scampered towards the door that Shianna had left through. “I’ll go and get Shianna back.”

I didn't and don't have time for a new game, or I would have signed up to this. I wish you the best, though, and I'll probably read along.

It's January...sorry couldn't resist.

The campaign started in Ches which would correspond to March. I suppose we'd be in Tarsakh/April now (I'm guessing here though).

Those Gloves are pretty cool, Deuce (just looked them up).

In other news, can Aelistae purchase an 'oil of bless weapon' from Firin too? And take the spare silvered dagger that's listed in the party loot? (unless anyone else wants it).

Before anyone asks, yes Aelistae is now Nightcrawler. ...Except without the fur...and the tail...and the weird costume...

The whole jumping thing is due to some Dimension Stride Boots that she picked up from Firin.

Aelistae flitted like a dark shadow across the Keep. The midnight blues of her skin were now complemented fully by the clothing she wore. Her armour had been replaced by fine gossamer strands of spider silk and mithril that lay as a discarded web upon her torso. It merged so seamlessly with the dark silken blouse she wore underneath, and clung so daringly to the curves of her frame that it almost appeared as if she had woven the spidery links herself. Her boots were now of a supple, sleek leather barely a tone away from the hue of her skin.

*Bamf*

A pall of black smoke suddenly hung over where Aelistae had stood. And as for the drow woman herself, she stood peering down at it from atop the large walls that encircled the courtyard of the Keep.

A shy smile tugged at the corners of her lips. ‘The halfling was right,’ she mused, ‘the boots really do work. And for a kiss and some gold… it is a worthwhile price if they can help me…with you….’

The drow woman eyes fell to the land upon the other side of the keep as it stretched away into the distance and kissed the night sky on the horizon. It was where she longed to go. And it is where she would have gone but for the ties of friendship keeping her at Starspire Bastion.

---

Aelistae was still reflecting on her dealing with the Dwarven sculptor and stonemason when she received the summons to attend Bart’s court. The brief feelings of pride and satisfaction at the exchange with the harglukiir* master-craftsman were replaced by uncharacteristic unease. Aelistae had little idea what human customs were during such an event, and even less of an idea what Bart expected of her.

She needn’t have worried. No one seemed to find the simple hunting garb the drow woman was clad in out of place, and nor did any remark on any failure to perform some arcane ceremony. After everyone had taken their seats, Bart carefully explained the tasks he would have the ‘Lights of Starspire’ perform.

It was the third that grabbed her attention. It over-rode in her mind all other considerations – the chance to follow where her heart had already escaped to.

“I’ll go with the caravan,” she remarked, almost before the final words had left Bart’s mouth.

“I have some…matters to attend to in the Omlarundin mountains, and they lie in the east too I think,” Aelistae added a moment later, with an apologetic smile. “Maybe we can split our resources? Linnix and I could accompany this caravan, and maybe the remainder of you could explore these mines or investigate this tribe?”

OOC: * ‘Dwarven’ in Drow.

Topic: Iceland Government Fails
Subject: ...

It's quite simple. The whole of the Icelandic economy was pinned upon the banking sector, to the extent that its banks owed six times the GDP of the whole country. With the world's credit markets drying up, the nation's assets overseas have been frozen, it has had to go to the IMF for a loan (normally something reserved for developing economies), and it's economy shrank by almost 10% in one calendar year.

Frankly if a government isn't going to resign after that, I don't know when it is.

The Starbuck issue is probably the weirdest thing. There's that whole thing about her being the 'harbinger of death' which doesn't sound too cheery. Perhaps the 13th (Cylon) tribe was destroyed by humans, and they sent a cloned Starbuck back to lure more Cylons to Earth?

They started showing the final ten episodes of Battlestar Galactica in the UK this week, and all I can say is: wow. Did anyone think the fifth hidden cylon would be who it is? Were cylons around before humans? Is Lee Adama going to do something about his hair?

Actually ignore that last question.

Summoning Firin seems good to me.

Regading the Keep, I didn't do anything to represent the 2nd of the 2 floors. I figure that rooms A, B, C, D, and E have a similar sized room above them, and then a flat roof from which soldiers can shoot arrows etc.

I also haven't done the cavern beneath the keep either, which could be used for all sorts of stuff.
