Yep you have a point. But if I were Aelistae I wouldn't like to leave any critters at my back.

If Loriel can pick up a trail then sure we'll head in that direction. But it might be really hard to do so.

Personally I always like the group I'm with to clear out every room they come across. But I'm not sure if the others are of the same mind.

I don't think any of us expected this to be a vast underground complex. I was expecting it would just be a cave with a smelly ogre snoozing inside!

Kas moved her hands before Aelistae’s chest and flooded her with healing energy. The drow woman’s flesh tingled as her cracked bones knitted themselves together and the wound upon her thigh was reduced to an angry scar.

Yet although Aelistae was grateful for the attention Kas had shown her, she was also puzzled about what the strange-looking woman had revealed about herself.

‘Pelor? Favoured Soul?’ she thought, confused about the words and terms Kas had used. Aelistae knew the woman had suffered a head wound and wondered if that, coupled with the strains of combat, had not addled her thoughts.

“When we leave this place, I shall dress the head-wound you suffered earlier. Such wounds, when left untreated, can cause…confusion.”

Aliira would go ahead with the sacrifice, and she'd do so by targetting woodcutters or (better yet) a trapper/farrier. As far as she's concerned those people have committed a grievious crime against Nature, and it's only right that they pay with their blood.

She'd be less willing to kill anyone else. Unlike the dryad she doesn't want genocide, but merely a strengthening of the forest and a curbing of the destructive tendencies of humans.

If you can have that occur in between adventures, that suits me.

Subject: Ta

Thanks Ayrn.

And now for some non-roleplaying explanations of what's going on. I've been in contacted with some of the neutrals to give them a report on what has happened so far. Since it offers a concise account of what has occurred I'll just copy and paste what I sent to the Haradrim:

Hi Jerry,

Sorry to hear about the presence of DS forces at 2833. Last turn the
DS turned up on Rhudaur pop centres as well. If I didn't know better
I'd say they were on a mission to alienate every neutral out there!

Anyhow here's the sit rep you requested. Apologies if some bits are a
bit vague. I'm sure you understand that there's only so much I can
reveal:

The big news, as you no doubt know, is that the Easterlings have
declared for the Free. It's something we've been working for over the
last couple of turns so there's interesting things to watch out for
from Terry (the Easterlings player). At the moment the Easterlings
have an army at Burch Nurn (Blind Sorceror village at 4025). The Free
also have an army nearby, that has come through the 'back door' into
Mordor.

In the Sea of Rhun, the Easterlings, Dwarves, Northmen and myself (to
a lesser extent) have been coordinating our actions. The Long Rider
landed an army at Lest (4017) last turn, captured the town, and has
been intercepted by the Dwarves and Northmen at Kheled-nala (3916).
It's likely that the Long Rider army will be destroyed, or failing
that it'll suffer severe casualties. The LR has also snuck in an army
at 4217. Finally both Din Ohtar and Cloud Lord agents have been
targeting the Northmen.

In Ithilien, the two Gondors and myself (to a lesser extent) have been
going about things effectively. North Gondor caught and destroyed the
Long Rider starting army at 3129. The Fire King has taken Minis
Ithil/Morgul at 3124, but there was any intent from our side to defend
the place. The FK moved the army to Osgiliath where it will be
destroyed by the two Gondors.

In Eriador things are interesting. The WK assaulted and captured 1406,
and currently has two armies that have been temporarily halted at
1408. Arthedain and Cardolan have been working well, however, and each
have one army at the WK pop centres at 1806 and 1907. The WK also
appears to be moving his Mount Gundabad army into Eriador (either that
or he's made order errors).

In Mirkwood/Misty Mountains things are at boiling point. The Dwarves
and Noldir have trapped the starting DL army at Goblin Gate. That will
fall this turn. The Sinda (ie. me) have intercepted one of the
starting Dol Guldur armies at 2615. The Eothraim and NG are facing
another DL army at 2616. Finally the Woodmen have an army camped on
the (nearly) empty Dol Guldur itself.

In the North-East the Dwarves have taken 3506.

Regarding the WK incursion into Rhudaur, from what we heard from
Rhudaur it was an act of aggression, but we have yet to hear what
actually happened.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me.

Regards,

Gajendra (Envoy of the Sindar)

As (may) be obvious the forces of Sauron keep 'accidentally' straying onto the towns of the neutral nations. The Rhudaur player is an odd fish so hasn't reacted in the manner that you would expect, but Harad isn't pleased at all.

Other than that, my description of what's happening in Mirkwood and what I posted earlier reveals that there's been a big early push on Dol Guldur.

There also may be something happening a little further on, involving some pointy-eared folk...but I'll tell you about that later.

Lovely epilogue Vorrioch.

Emmy is of course the best person to use the mace, so I'm totally fine with that. I don't think, though, that we should sell the flail. We came across a critter which needed magical items to hit last time, and we had a case of people having to use one weapon between two.

So I think one of our fighty types should take the flail (even if they don't have the proficiency).

Aliira can't use the pendant since she already uses a magical necklace. The ESP item might come in useful though....you know for luring a few folk into a certain part of the forest...

As the song goes: "If you go down to the woods today, you're sure to get...eaten!" Mwuahahahahaha!

I love Jozan's comment: 'Xaris grunted and took the swinging scythe like a gnome.'

*pats the gnome on the head*

Oh and I also noticed that there are some crossbow bolts in the backpack that Aelistae recovered. I'll have Aelistae examine the contents in detail once we are safe and have made camp, but I think (looking at the character sheets of everyone) that Linnix is the best person to use them.

Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes
Subject: Finishing what has been started

Aelistae saw the self-doubt writ over Linnix’s face, and, strange as though it may seem, it reminded the drow woman of how she had once felt. It had taken her a long time to stop doubting her every action, and in moments of weakness she still did it. She still feared the evil of Menzoberranzen had burrowed beneath her skin and that all the good she did could never, ever wash it away.

But Aelistae was wrong to doubt herself, and she knew Linnix was wrong to the do the same.

“Let’s just say that we both owe each other our lives then,” she stated with a smile, as she grasped the rope Loriel had thrown down.

After she was hoisted from the spider’s lair, Aelistae saw that her companions had been in a fight of their own. Orc corpses littered the floor, and all her comrades seemed to bear scratches and bruises. They were none, however, that needed urgent attention to their wounds. As Kasenerrion offered her own divine healing to Aelistae and Linnix, she realized why.

“I never knew you were a Priestess,” Aelistae replied with a bow of her head in deference to her rank. “If you can spare your Goddess’ blessing I could use it, as could Linnix.”

[Presuming Kas can spare a spell for Aelistae:]

“Thank you, Sister,” she commented by way of thanks. “As to your plan, I’m not sure it will work. Whatever creatures live here clearly knew of the pit. There was a creature of Lolth that resided there – a spider I think it is called in the human tongue – but it is dead now. So there is little advantage even if we could throw a creature into its depths.”

“We found some coins and other items down there, but now is not the time to divide the spoils of war. There is also a door down there, but I am not sure where it leads. What is clear is we must strike quickly or we risk the lives of the human prisoners. ”

Xaris moved off already having come to the same conclusion as herself, while Linnix pondered over the blue light her newly found blade was shedding.

“It is likely to be magical,” Aelistae commented, knowing a little about bladecraft. “The blades crafted by humans and the Tel’Quess – the surface elves – often emit a soft light. There might be some other reason for it but I am not so knowledgeable about these things as some of my Sisters are.”

Aelistae drew her bow to ensure its string was intact. “But come. Let us finish what we started, and then leave this place.”

[OOC. By referring to Tyr as a ‘Goddess’ Aelistae isn’t impugning his sexuality (athough that would be amusing ). It’s because Aelistae doesn’t actually know what deity Kas worships, and I figure that most drow would use assume that all Gods are Goddesses unless they specifically know otherwise. That’s because women are so much better than men of course. ]

I'm fine with all that Vorrioch.

The only thing I would say, though, is that I don't think Aliira would have any upkeep costs if we're adventuring around Bridhvale. She doesn't keep much if any gold on her, and she obviously avoids the town as much as possible.

I hear it's to do with the whole witch burning craze. When will these people ever learn?

Regarding the armour, I had Aelistae pack it away. I'd like for Aelistae to wear it, but I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I'll have her identify the armour later courtesy of the scroll.

Subject: Discoveries in the dark

Aelistae’s blade bit deep into the spider’s flesh, until its length and her gloved hands were covered in black blood. The spider chittered and thrashed in its death throes, causing her to fear for a moment that she would be crushed beneath its maddened bulk. But the creature seemed to lose all interest in her as its end neared and instead dragged itself into a corner of the room to die alone and in darkness.

‘To die as it lived its wretched life,’ was the thought that flickered across Aelistae’s mind.

She winced suddenly. The priestess had not escaped the battle unharmed, and as she ran her hand over the chain covering her chest she noticed that the chain links of the armour had been severed, her skin had been punctured, and. in all likelihood, a few of her ribs had been broken.

“Are you alright, Aelistae? It looked like it hit you fairly hard.” Linnix asked.

“I could be better,” she replied simply, although she was touched at the concern Linnix had shown for her welfare. “If it were not for you I would have fallen. I owe you my life.”

The drow woman bowed her head in thanks, and set about trying to stem the bleeding from her many wounds.

[OOC: Aelistae has her 4 0 level spells intact, so she’ll imbue herself with 4 Cure Minor Wounds. That’ll take her up to 13 hp]

With that done she produced a cloth from her backpack, to wipe the blood from her weapon, and ran her eyes around the room they had fallen into. And it was a room it seemed, before it had become a spider’s lair. The stone of the walls had been cut by civilized hands, and she spotted the feint outline of a door upon one of the walls.

Aelistae sheathed her weapon and headed towards the door. As she neared she saw that some other had ventured here before her, only to end up fattening the spider’s belly.

“Xal dosst quortek ragar sreen'aur z'hind ulu l'zeklet'tau,” she offered over the remains in the language of her people. Recovering the backpack of the unfortunate figure, which seemed to be intact and untouched, Aelistae headed back to Linnix.

“Did you find anything?” the woman asked as she experimentally swung a newly found sword.

“There is a door over there. And near it I found the remains of some poor soul devoured by the spider,” she replied, before gesturing towards the sword and armour that Linnix had recovered.

“The Lady provides for those that do her will. Whoever this man or woman was in life, I’m sure they would be happy for you to carry that blade. And it seems the armour could come in use soon,” she added, pointing towards where the spider had bitten through the leathers and chain shirt she wore.

"Helloooo down there. Are you okay?” a voice from above suddenly called out. “I have a rope to pull you out. Aelistae, Kas has been injured badly. If you have any healing left it would certainly help or if you don't I hope you have good healing skills we going to need it up here."

“We are hurt, but we shall live. Send down the rope and I shall see what I can do for her.”

It seemed that Aelistae’s work was not yet done.

[OOC: Aelistae will recover and pack away the chain shirt that Linnix found.

Oh and the drow is: 'May your soul find safe passage to the afterlife'.]

Yep I'm good at having Aliira's share remain as 'party funds'. There's no way she'd be interested in hoarding 'metals' anyway.

I might be interested in buying a couple of potions next time (especially the healing variety), but that shouldn't inconvenience anyone.

As for the gem, Aliira's happy for it to be returned to the human.

Strands of the spider’s putrid webbing hung from Aelistae’s hair and stuck stubbornly to her clothing and armour. If, in the past, her path had followed a different course she have viewed the spidrous ichor as a gift to be treasured. As it was, it disgusted her.

Aelistae’s response was to raise her sword. The dull light of the glowing orbs caught the edge of the exotically curved blade, and the even more exotic hilt that comprised half of the total length of the weapon. With practiced ease she sent it scything towards the multi-faceted eyes of her arachnid foe. But it was only a feint. She halted her attack mid-swing, quickly reversed her grip, and sliced upwards towards the soft underside of the creature.

OOC: Umm, although Aelistae isn’t a pure fighter, I wouldn’t describe her as a ‘non-fighter’ either Dragon Mistress.

As for her actions, there’s nothing complicated here. Just standard hack and slash.
