No worries. It was an honest mistake.

The one (big) problem of playing a game where all the PCs have max. health is that all the villains have max health too.

I don't think I'll bother to amend Aelistae's actions. With the werewolf so close to her, it makes sense for her to attack it.

“Go!” Aelistae commanded Bart, as some of the human’s wounds healed and his eyes flickered open. To her left she had seen the Sharran finally give way to his bestial urges and shift into the form of a large, black wolf. She knew that its jaws could easily tear through flesh and splinter bone. But she was not afraid. She was drow and she was a Darksong Knight.

“Go. Save yourself,” she repeated at Bart in a slightly softer tone. “This foe is beyond you.”

Both of her hands fell to the hilt of her sword, as she turned to face the lycanthrope. The blade of her sword curved upwards as she began to run towards it. And as that run became a sprint, and that sprint a leap, the sword sliced downwards into the werewolf’s flesh.

[OOC: Aelistae is charging the werewolf]

Seems ok to me. I was going to have Aelistae run off to attack the dire wolf mauling Sheva, but with Artanis doing it, I think it's time to face off against the big bad.

Nah the saying 'shooting oneself in the foot' came from a common practice of self-mutilation among British soldiers during WW1, in which to escape the horror of the trenches, they'd literally shoot themselves in the foot. (there was a way of doing it without risking splintering the bone).

I didn't realize that Jozan had so many HP! 75 would have put him at twice what Aelistae has. No wonder he's such a hard bugger to heal.

Good job with the criticals, though, (and the same goes to Artanis). Things are starting to look a little more positive for us.

Well I hope you feel better.

Regarding the whole paladin thing, it brings back a time when I played a paladin (in fact the only time) and had a huge argument over ethics. Basically we (as a party) were ordered by an agent of the King to clear to protect a village. In the course of our duties we found that the village was being attacked by a horde of nasty burrowing critters (bulettes etc.). In the course of investigating those attacks we found out that they had been displaced by a tribe of hobgoblins.

Now after defeating a few hobbo warriors, my paladin looked down upon a sea of hobgoblin children, and others who were unfit or infirm to fight.

So my paladin was left to decide whether to fulfill his oath to his liege and massacre hobgoblin children. Or fail in that oath and allow those children to grow up and (potentially) massacre human children.

Erk!

I'm sure she could work the command words into the song. I can see it now:

"The leaves were long, the grass was green,
The hemlock-umbels tall and fair,
And in the glade a light was seen...
DIE, YOU LUPINE CRETINS!"

...or something to that effect.

Eek, things aren't looking too rosy.

Hopefully Super Gnome can help Talus or Artanis while Aelistae heals Bart.

Of course if Elesia used some of her bard song abilities it might help.

There were few drow who held any illusions about war. There were no tales of valour and heroism that were passed down from mother to daughter, but those of the carnage and slaughter that war brought. Aelistae was reminded of that once again as Bart wailed in agony and then crumpled beneath the haunches of a large wolf.

The silver light in her eyes died, and was replaced by tears of sympathy. But Aelistae had no intention of allowing the man to die. She rushed to his side, and began to channel one of the blessings given to her by Eilistraee before the last vestiges of life left him.

[OOC: Aelistae will move up to 30’ so that she’s on the opposite side of Bart that the Dire Wolf is on, and will cast cure moderate wounds on Bart. The idea is to avoid attacks of opportunity that her movement or spell-casting may cause. She will substitute ‘Silence’ for the spell.]

I think the post is to inform players how much damage it took, and not what it's total HP are (which our characters wouldn't know).

So when Kaelyn wrote -18 hp in brackets, it was supposed to imply that he/she/it had taken 18 damage.

Tazi smiled ruefully as she briefly examined the muzzle of her gun. It was a large weapon for a pistol, designed to bury the foes of the Imperium under a hail of bullets at close range. But even still, she hadn’t expected for it to fail her when attempting a shot that required more finesse.

“I don’t suppose you fancy on going double or quits, on the next one?” she quipped at Daggerfall, with only a hint of disappointment at having lost her bet.

Tazi turned her attention to the Tech Priest that had faced the mutant before Daggerfall’s shot had found its mark. The few members of the Adeptus Mechanicus that she had seen before, had always disturbed her. Sawing off portions of her flesh and replacing it with whirling cogs, was not Tazi’s idea of a good time.

‘Plus how fun can it be frackin’ a machine?’ she thought soberly.

“You alright?” she asked, before firing a few rounds into the mutant to make sure it was dead.

This is a purely OOC comment.

I'd be careful about taking these wolfy-types too lightly. Aelistae turned one last turn, which means that it's a lycanthrope of some sort. It may be the only one out there, in which case that would explain why she didn't turn any others. Or it could be that it had 4 or more HD, and Aelistae rolled low on her turning damage.

Either way, it's not time to get cocky.

Large, lupine teeth bit into her thigh and drew blood. The twisted Sharran werewolf directed its gaze her way, and she could feel her armour warm against her flesh in response. Yet if the attacks troubled her, she did not show it.

Aelistae had channeled a portion of her Goddess’ power, and, though it had caused only one wolf – or werewolf – to scamper away in fear, Eilistraee’s blessing stayed with her. Her eyes took on a silvery hue, to match the tint of her hair. But more than that, all the doubt and fear she had felt over the last few days, was suddenly replaced by calm clarity.

“Jallil d'l'Drathir, sarn'elgg nindyn vel'uss ruulk'na l'ssin d'dosst isto,” she whispered as she sought to frighten away more of the creatures that had attacked them.

[OOC: 5’ step away from the wolf attacking her, and another turn lycanthrope attempt.

The drow translates as: "Lady of the Moon, punish those who would disturb the beauty of your night."]

Ordinarily I'd suggest Mkoll should take some tips from our gun-slinging tech-priest, but it's probably a good thing he missed.

“Why do you mourn?”

Haunting, eyeless sockets emerged suddenly from the gloom. They seemed so impossibly dark even though they were surrounded by the lightless depths of the Underdark.

She faltered at the sight. She should have been used to them by now, but she wasn’t. Their sudden appearance caused her to stumble and graze her knee painfully upon a rocky out-crop.

“I asked you why you mourn?” the eyeless face repeated, as weathered hand fell upon her arm to help her to her feet.

“Because…because they were all I had. And they were murdered!”

“Yes,” the eyeless eyes continued. “They were victims, they were killed…but were they any different to those who had killed them? Did they not kill or murder in their own time? And you…would you refuse to kill them, if you had seen all they had done in the past and were witness to all they would do if they lived?”

“No,” she replied.

Aelistae stared defiantly at the half-man, half-wolf creature. She knew what he was. She even recognized what foul ‘Mistress’ he served and what purpose the ‘sacrifice’ he wished to hold had. But she would not run.

“I have a counter-offer. We will hunt the hunter, and spirit his mange-eaten soul to his Dark Goddess. And we will do so for all those he has killed, and because the Moon belongs to us.”

The drow priestess allowed one hand to fall from the hilt of her sword, and raised it to the brooch she wore above her breast. It began to glow with a silvery light as she tried to channel a portion of her deity’s power.

[OOC: Aelistae will move closer to the fire, and attempt to turn lycanthropes.]

We haven't gotten ourselves into anything yet. But we're about to get ourselves into a fight with some werewolves.

And not just any werewolves either it seems...I'll include what Aelistae learnt (from a knowledge:religion check) in her post.

Tazi raised a hand to the back of her neck to gently coax some life into her stiff and sore muscles. It wasn’t that she was out of shape. If anything she had been more physically active since joining Carrigan’s troupe than she had been on Ophelia VII. It just wasn’t the kind of activity she was supposed to be indulging in.

Tazi turned to look at Daggerfall just as he turned to look away. The fact that she had caught him looking at her brought an amused smile to her lips.

“Still not tired after…?” she began, before a sudden crash stole her attention.

“Frack,” she swore simply, as she cocked her pistol. “Well at least we know that wasn’t Mkoll. He would have been screaming like a girl first. Oh…and whoever kills this fracker gets to go on top.”

Tazi winked suggestively as she started down the left hand corridor, laspistol at the ready.

Yes quite. The 'DnD Extreme' comment was more about the drive WotC have to mimic MMORPGs or even dungeon-crawling games such as Diablo 2. What's important is not the roleplaying, but the rolling of the dice.

And in case anyone doubts that, the DMG (4th edition version) explicitly states what fun it can be to randomly pick a monster from the MM and start rolling some dice as if your character were fighting it.

Anywho, I'm not so dismissive of the d20 system, as others are. Personally I like 3.5 and I'm going to stick with it.

I don't think I've ever had my characters sleep in armour (unless it was during lulls on a battlefield or if they were expecting combat). I just think it would be so uncomfortable (in real terms and not game mechanics-wise).

Well maybe a mithril shirt wouldn't, but mithril breastplate would surely be really horrible to sleep in.
